Any system at play in a data-driven project has a fundamental requirement: the ability to load data. The de-facto standard format to distribute and consume raw data is csv. Yet, the plain text and flexible nature of this format make such files often difficult to parse and correctly load their content, requiring cumbersome data preparation steps. We propose a benchmark to assess the robustness of systems in loading data from non-standard csv formats and with structural inconsistencies. First, we formalize a model to describe the issues that affect real-world files and use it to derive a systema

Schema discovery and data loading is a crucial step in any data analysis pipeline. While this used to be a rare task, in the highly dynamic field of machine learning and modern business intelligence on top of data lakes, today it has become a frequent, but often underestimated, activity. Existing tools often focus on single files, presume prior knowledge of the data on the user's side or a significant amount of manual labor. In this paper, we improve the process of mapping a "chaotic" set of files to an initial database schema that can then be iteratively refined and loaded. The idea is to tak

Abstract:
Culverts are ideally suitable structures across a highway or railway embankment to balance the flood water on both sides. This research work presents the results of a parametric investigation of two types of reinforced concrete culverts subject to various loadings conditions for Bhopal using finite element method. The dimensions of culverts had same span and width. The vehicle loads were projected on the top slab using I.R.C. specifications for 70R class a loading. Hydraulic pressure was applied on the vertical wall which depends on the depth of the culvert which is calculated as per topograph

Abstract. Floodplain wetlands often form at confluences of main river channels and small, low-order tributary streams, yet their impact on nutrient removal and downstream loading is poorly understood. We coupled high-resolution water quality data with deterministic numerical modeling of hydrologic, hydraulic, and biochemical processes impacting nitrate fate and transport in a confluence floodplain wetland along the Ohio River from June 2017 to May 2018. The modeling results were used to quantify loading from a disturbed forested watershed (Fourpole Creek watershed) and the nitrate removal capa

Background Modern data-driven medical research provides new insights into the development and course of diseases and enables novel methods of clinical decision support. Clinical and translational data warehouses, such as Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2) and tranSMART, are important infrastructure components that provide users with unified access to the large heterogeneous data sets needed to realize this and support use cases such as cohort selection, hypothesis generation, and ad hoc data analysis. Objective Often, different warehousing platforms are needed to suppor

Abstract:
Principal component analysis (PCA) has been widely used in metabolomics. However, it is not always possible to detect phenotype-associated principal component (PC) scores. Previously, we proposed a smoothed PCA for samples acquired with a time course or rank order, but hypothesis testing to select significant metabolite candidates was not possible. Here, we modified the smoothed PCA as an orthogonal smoothed PCA (OS-PCA) so that statistical hypothesis testing in OS-PC loadings could be performed with the same PC projections provided by the smoothed PCA. Statistical hypothesis testing is especi

Abstract:
There are many rivers flowing from complex paths into Lake Dianchi. At present, there is a lack of inflow and water quality monitoring data for some rivers, resulting in limited accuracy of statistical results regarding water volume and external loading estimations. In this study, we used DYRESM to estimate the water volume entering Waihai of Lake Dianchi from 2007 to 2019 without historical hydrological observation data. Then, we combined this information with the monthly monitoring data of water quality to calculate the annual external loading. Our results showed that: (1) DYRESM could effec
