Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan alternatif pemanfaatan produk teknologi agar proses pengumpulan hingga analisis data dapat berlangsung efektif dan efisien. Pada penelitian ini, sistem Open Data Kit (ODK) dikembangkan sebagai media pengumpulan data. Penggunaan sistem ini dapat memberikan efisiensi pembiayaan pengadaan instrumen penelitian/ kuesioner kertas, dapat meniadakan proses penginputan, kompilasi dan pre-prosesing data sehingga proses analisis dapat berlangsung lebih cepat.  The massive development of communication and information technology demands a faster, yet effective and efficient research implementation. Data collection to analysis is a series of research processes with the largest allocation of time and funds. This study aims to provide an alternative use of technology products so that the process of collecting and analyzing data can be effective and efficient. In this study, the Open Data Kit (ODK) system was developed as a data collection medium. The use of this system can provide cost efficiency in the procurement of research instruments / paper questionnaires, can eliminate the process of inputting, compiling and pre-processing data so that the analysis process can take place more quickly. The use of the ODK system will greatly assist the implementation of research to be effective and efficient because of its simple use, it can be developed according to research needs and does not require special skills to be able to operate it.

Abstract:
Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are undeniably already all around us, as we stand at the cusp of the next generation of IoT technologies. Indeed, the next-generation of IoT technologies are evolving before IoT technologies have been fully adopted, and smart dust IoT technology is one such example. The concept of smart dust IoT technology, which features very small devices with low computing power, is a revolutionary and innovative concept that enables many things that were previously unimaginable, but at the same time creates unresolved problems. One of the biggest problems is the bottlenecks in data transmission that can be caused by this large number of devices. The bottleneck problem was solved with the Dual Plane Development Kit (DPDK) architecture. However, the DPDK solution created an unexpected new problem, which is called the mixed packet problem. The mixed packet problem, which occurs when a large number of data packets and control packets mix and change at a rapid rate, can slow a system significantly. In this paper, we propose a dynamic partitioning algorithm that solves the mixed packet problem by physically separating the planes and using a learning algorithm to determine the ratio of separated planes. In addition, we propose a training data model eXtended Permuted Frame (XPF) that innovatively increases the number of training data to reflect the packet characteristics of the system. By solving the mixed packet problem in this way, it was found that the proposed dynamic partitioning algorithm performed about 72% better than the general DPDK environment, and 88% closer to the ideal environment.

Abstract:
The injection of an antagonistic anti-murine c-kit monoclonal antibody ACK2 during mouse embryonic development produced three distinctive pigmentation patterns on the coat of the offspring. Pattern 1 consisted of pigmentation in craniofacial and caudal regions and was induced by an ACK2 injection between 9.5 and 11.5 days post coitum (dpc). In pattern 2, the entire coat was unpigmented and was induced by the injection at around 13.0 dpc. Pattern 3 consisted of pigmented patches spreading ventrolaterally from the dorsoanterior trunk regions towards the anterior and posterior directions and it was induced by ACK2 administered at 14.5-15.0 dpc. We investigated the embryological basis of these nonuniform pigmentation patterns to elucidate the process of melanoblast differentiation between lineage commitment and colonization into developing hair follicles. The results showed the following. (1) Melanocyte differentiation at the embryonic stage from 10.5 to 12.5 dpc progresses in a spatially nonuniform fashion, being faster in the craniofacial and caudal regions than in the trunk; pattern 1 reflects this. (2) Melanoblasts are activated to proliferate synchronously upon entering into the epidermis; pattern 2 correlates with this process. (3) c-kit functions as a survival signal for proliferating melanoblasts in the epidermis. (4) The melanoblasts that enter developing hair follicles can survive without a c-kit signal; pattern 3 essentially represents the hair follicles colonized by these cells. Analysis of the melanoblast distribution of ls/ls embryos that bear a loss-of-function mutation in the endothelin 3 gene suggested that endothelin 3 is required for early melanoblast differentiation before entering into the epidermis, whereas proliferation in the epidermis takes place without this molecule. Based on these data, we propose 4 distinct steps of embryonic melanocyte differentiation: (1) migration in the dermis, which requires both c-kit and endothelin 3; (2) a state before epidermal entry that is resistant to anti-c-kit mAb; (3) cell proliferation after entering the epidermal layer, which requires c-kit and endothelin receptor B but not endothelin 3 and (4) integration into developing hair follicles, which renders melanoblasts resistant to anti-c-kit mAb. Thus, melanoblast differentiation proceeds by alternately repeating c-kit -dependent and c-kit-independent stages and c-kit functions as a survival factor for the proliferating melanoblasts.

Background/Objectives: For data center-based enterprises, the use of data traffic continues to increase. As a result, the increasingly efficient processing of increasing data traffic is becoming a major issue. Effective processing of traffic can be performed through the addition of physical network equipment, but this requires considerable costs.Methods/Statistical analysis: To solve this problem, researches on server virtualization and network virtualization technology are being actively conducted. However, while network virtualization is a cost-effective solution, open-source virtual switches used in network virtualization technologies have the performance penalty because they handle packets at the kernel of server's operating system. As a result, the Intel has developed the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) technology to address the performance degradation of the operating system.Findings: In this paper, we propose the DPDK performance test environment based on Open Virtual Switch (OVS) to verify the stability and performance of the DPDK-oriented virtualization technology, in association with a new KREONET-S project which aims tothe softwarization of the Korea Research Environment Open Network (KREONET) infrastructure.Improvements/Applications: We perform conducted experiments on Software-Defined Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) environment using KREONET-S show the result.

Abstract:
In implementing the 2013 curriculum, Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) must be integrated into learning activities. Similarity are sub material of similarity and congruence that students must learn. In fact, the higher order thinking skills of junior high school students in similarity material is low. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to develop a learning materials for learning in the form of plane similarity according to the level of student thinking in geometry, which is based on Van Hiele's theory to improve students' higher-order thinking skills. Van Hiele's theory was chosen because it suggests the development of students' thinking in learning of geometry occurs through five levels sequentially so that learning devices can be developed according to the level of van Hiele students. The purpose of this research is to obtain a description of the learning materials of plane similarity based on van Hiele theory based on van Hiele theory to improve students' high-level thinking skills that are valid, practical, and effective. This type of research is a research development using the 4-D model proposed by Thiagarajan then simplified to a 3-D model. Validation of learning devices, participant observation, questionnaires, and tests are the data collection techniques used. The results showed that the RPP, LKS, and THB were said to be valid then, the learning materials was declared valid; the management of learning is said to be good, the overall evaluation on the validation sheet of the learning materials is stated to be used, and the percentage of active student activities at the second meeting and the third meeting respectively is 91.25% and 91.25% then, the learning kit is declared practical; and the percentage of positive responses of students by 71% and an increase in higher order thinking skills seen from the results of the N-Gain pretest and posttest of 0,728 categorized as high then, the learning device is declared effective. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) belong to the class of small non-coding RNAs which have important roles throughout development as well as in plant response to diverse environmental stresses. Some of plant miRNAs are essential for regulation and maintenance of nutritive homeostasis when nutrients are in excess or shortage comparing to optimal concentration for certain plant species. Better understanding of miRNAs functions implies development of efficient technology for profiling their gene expression. We set out to establish validate the methodology for miRNA gene expression analysis in cucumber grown under suboptimal mineral nutrient regimes, including iron deficiency. Reverse transcription by ?stem-loop? primers in combination with Real time PCR method is one of potential approaches for quantification of miRNA gene expression. In this paper we presented a method for ?stem loop? primer design specific for miR398, as well as reaction optimization and determination of Real time PCR efficiency. Proving the accuracy of this method was imperative as ?stem loop? RT which consider separate transcription of target and endogenous control. The method was verified by comparison of the obtained data with results of miR398 expression achieved using a commercial kit based on simultaneous conversion of all RNAs in cDNAs.

Undergraduate college “science partners” provided content knowledge and a supportive atmosphere for K–5 teachers in a university–school professional development partnership program in science instruction. The Elementary Science Education Partners program, a Local Systemic Change initiative supported by the National Science Foundation, was composed of four major elements: 1) a cadre of mentor teachers trained to provide district-wide teacher professional development; 2) a recruitment and training effort to place college students in classrooms as science partners in semester-long partnerships with teachers; 3) a teacher empowerment effort termed “participatory reform”; and 4) an inquiry-based curriculum with a kit distribution and refurbishment center. The main goals of the program were to provide college science students with an intensive teaching experience and to enhance teachers' skills in inquiry-based science instruction. Here, we describe some of the program's successes and challenges, focusing primarily on the impact on the classroom teachers and their science partners. Qualitative analyses of data collected from participants indicate that 1) teachers expressed greater self-confidence about teaching science than before the program and they spent more class time on the subject; and 2) the college students modified deficit-model negative assumptions about the children's science learning abilities to express more mature, positive views.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to design an application for attendance at the SMK Negeri 5 Padang school which was used as student absenteeism when the teaching and learning activities took place and to see reports of student attendance. The attendance process is carried out by utilizing a smartphone through a client-server based Android application, so that the attendance process no longer takes the timesheet on the picket table and records it on paper. The attendance application design was built using object-oriented programming methods using UML (Unified Modeling Language) modeling, among others: Context Diagrams, Use Case Diagrams, Activity Diagrams and Class Diagrams. On the server side the system is built using PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) as an additional language and as an editor using SublimeText, while applications on the client side use the Java Development Kit (JDK) language and use MySQL as a database. The student absentee application at the SMK 5 Padang is produced namely, the application on the server side with a web display that is used for client management, while on the client side will produce an application used to retrieve student attendance data and view student attendance data reports Keywords: Sudent attendence, Android, Client-Server, PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor).

Abstract:
The Internet of Things (IoT) combines many devices with various platforms, computing capabilities and functions. The heterogeneity of the network and the ubiquity of IoT devices place increased demands on security and privacy protection. Therefore, cryptographic mechanisms must be strong enough to meet these increased requirements, but at the same time they must be effective enough to be implemented on devices with disabilities. One of the limited devices are microcontrollers and smart cards. This paper presents the performance and memory limitations of modern cryptographic primitives and schemes on various types of devices that can be used in IoT. In this article, we provide a detailed assessment of the performance of the most commonly used cryptographic algorithms on devices with disabilities that often appear on IoT networks. We relied on the most popular open source microcontroller development platform, on the mbed platform. To provide a data protection function, we use cryptography asymmetric fully homomorphic encryption in the binary ring and symmetric cryptography AES 128 bit. In addition, we compared run-time encryption and decryption on a personal computer (PC) with Windows 7, the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Nano Kit microcontroller, the BLE Nano 1.5, and the smartcard ML3-36k-R1.

Abstract:
Data Plane Development Kit is a highly used library for creating network applications that can be run on all hardware. Data Plane Development Kit has a component called Service Cores, which allows the main applications to create services that will run independently. These services are manually mapped to specific CPU cores, and are scheduled in a round-robin method. Because of the manual mapping, and the scheduling, the different load for each service can impact the start time for each service. By having services not run when supposed to, the throughput will degrade. In this thesis, we investigate and try to solve the issue by implementing a basic load balancer into the Service Core component. Our results show that an basic load balancer, that will balance upon reaching a CPU upper threshold, will increase the throughput of services while decreasing the delay between each service run.

Abstract:
Key-Value Stores (KVSs) are a type of non-relational databases whose data is represented as a key-value pair and are often used to represent cache and session data storage. Among them, Memcached is one of the most popular ones, as it is widely used in various Internet services such as social networks and streaming platforms. Given the continuous and increasingly rapid growth of networked devices that use these services, the commodity hardware on which the databases are based must process packets faster to meet the needs of the market. However, in recent years, the performance improvements characterising the new hardware has become thinner and thinner. From here, as the purchase of new products is no longer synonymous with significant performance improvements, companies need to exploit the full potential of the hardware already in their possession, consequently postponing the purchase of more recent hardware. One of the latest ideas for increasing the performance of commodity hardware is the use of slice-aware memory management. This technique exploits the Last Level of Cache (LLC) by making sure that the individual cores take data from memory locations that are mapped to their respective cache portions (i.e., LLC slices). This thesis focuses on the realisation of a KVS prototype—based on Intel Haswell micro-architecture—built on top of the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), and to which the principles of slice-aware memory management are applied. To test its performance, given the non-existence of a DPDKbased traffic generator that supports the Memcached protocol, an additional prototype of a traffic generator that supports these features has also been developed. The performances were measured using two distinct machines: one for the traffic generator and one for the KVS. First, the “regular” KVS prototype was tested, then, to see the actual benefits, the slice-aware one. Both KVS prototypeswere subjected to two types of traffic: (i) uniformtraffic where the keys are always different from each other, and (ii) skewed traffic, where keys are repeated and some keys are more likely to be repeated than others. The experiments show that, in real-world scenario (i.e., characterised by skewed key distributions), the employment of a slice-aware memory management technique in a KVS can slightly improve the end-to-end latency (i.e.,~2%). Additionally, such technique highly impacts the look-up time required by the CPU to find the key and the corresponding value in the database, decreasing the mean time by ~22.5%, and improving the 99th percentile by ~62.7%.<br>Key-Value Stores (KVSs) är en typ av icke-relationsdatabaser vars data representeras som ett nyckel-värdepar och används ofta för att representera lagring av cache och session. Bland dem är Memcached en av de mest populära, eftersom den används ofta i olika internettjänster som sociala nätverk och strömmande plattformar. Med tanke på den kontinuerliga och allt snabbare tillväxten av nätverksenheter som använder dessa tjänster måste den råvaruhårdvara som databaserna bygger på bearbeta paket snabbare för att möta marknadens behov. Under de senaste åren har dock prestandaförbättringarna som kännetecknar den nya hårdvaran blivit tunnare och tunnare. Härifrån, eftersom inköp av nya produkter inte längre är synonymt med betydande prestandaförbättringar, måste företagen utnyttja den fulla potentialen för hårdvaran som redan finns i deras besittning, vilket skjuter upp köpet av nyare hårdvara. En av de senaste idéerna för att öka prestanda för råvaruhårdvara är användningen av skivmedveten minneshantering. Denna teknik utnyttjar den Sista Nivån av Cache (SNC) genom att se till att de enskilda kärnorna tar data från minnesplatser som är mappade till deras respektive cachepartier (dvs. SNCskivor). Denna avhandling fokuserar på förverkligandet av en KVS-prototyp— baserad på Intel Haswell mikroarkitektur—byggd ovanpå Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), och på vilken principerna för skivmedveten minneshantering tillämpas. För att testa dess prestanda, med tanke på att det inte finns en DPDK-baserad trafikgenerator som stöder Memcachedprotokollet, har en ytterligare prototyp av en trafikgenerator som stöder dessa funktioner också utvecklats. Föreställningarna mättes med två olika maskiner: en för trafikgeneratorn och en för KVS. Först testades den “vanliga” KVSprototypen, för att se de faktiska fördelarna, den skivmedvetna. Båda KVSprototyperna utsattes för två typer av trafik: (i) enhetlig trafik där nycklarna alltid skiljer sig från varandra och (ii) sned trafik, där nycklar upprepas och vissa nycklar är mer benägna att upprepas än andra. Experimenten visar att i verkliga scenarier (dvs. kännetecknas av snedställda nyckelfördelningar) kan användningen av en skivmedveten minneshanteringsteknik i en KVS förbättra förbättringen från slut till slut (dvs. ~2%). Dessutom påverkar sådan teknik i hög grad uppslagstiden som krävs av CPU: n för att hitta nyckeln och motsvarande värde i databasen, vilket minskar medeltiden med ~22, 5% och förbättrar 99th percentilen med ~62, 7%.

Abstract:
When using multi-axial testing, obtaining in-plane strain and displacement data can be difficult and costly. Montana State University's In Plane Loader (IPL) can apply any number of loads in the X and Y axes and as rotation but can only provide the displacement data at the grips. This project uses a Canon consumer-model digital single lens reflex camera and a series of matlab codes to provide in-plane displacement and strain data at as many points on the surface of the loaded specimen as required using Digital Image Correlation. The system has been successfully used to measure surface and boundary displacements on composite and aluminum samples, as well as on glued aluminum joints. The software system has been shown to estimate strains with a strain error of less then 0.0002 m/m or &Acirc;&plusmn;0.5% placing it within ASTM-B2 classification. It also has been shown to measure displacements to within 0.02 pixels accuracy, which for tests on the IPL translates to 0.007mm. The hardware/software system has also been used with the IPL to estimate Young's modulus of aluminum with less then 5% error and yield strength with just over 10% error.

The expectation of graduating nurses today is to be knowledgeable and responsive to rapidly changing technology in the health care environment. Although federal mandates, Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendations, and nursing program accreditation initiatives are pushing an "informatics" healthcare agenda by promoting the implementation of electronic health record (EHR) systems by 2014 in all healthcare facilities, very few US nursing schools provide students with access and training in, EHR systems. In addition, nursing faculty may not have a clear understanding of healthcare informatics; the use of information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making. Nursing education must address faculty issues related to this innovative paradigm in order to keep pace and participate as co-creators of relevant informatics technology curriculum that prepares graduates for real life workforce. Understanding the challenges, concerns, and successes in implementing informatics may help nurse educators as they develop curriculum and teach in this environment. This case study explores and describes, with nursing faculty of a small liberal arts college, faculty knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) as they participate in an action research framed curriculum development program for informatics academic EHR (AEHR) integration. The research question:What is the experience of nursing educators and nursing faculty members involved in the integration of an AEHR project framed in the Learning by Developing model at a small liberal arts college school of nursing? AbstractBy examining Polish parents’ perceptions of outdoor activities in Norwegian Early Childhood Education (ECE), this chapter discusses how focusing on the child’s perspective can change and challenge parental gender-related value positions, thereby changing perceptions of the cultural formation taking place through outdoor activities. The empirical data on the basis of which this question is answered are comprised of group interviews with 30 Polish migrant parents (18 mothers and 12 fathers) whose children were in Norwegian ECEs. The applied theoretical toolkit of a cultural historical wholeness approach (Hedegaard M, Mind Cult Act 19:127–138, 2012) enables the description of (parental) experiences of cultural formation through outdoor activities as anchored in the value positions established within and across involved societies. It also allows us to grasp those moments when the focus on the child’s perspective in outdoor activities challenges parental value positions and cultural traditions of heteronormativity. The concluding remarks point to the importance of enhancing both the child’s perspective and the specific plane of interpersonal interactions in ECE collaborations with parents and caregivers.

AbstractTropical Legumes III project as a development intervention focused on enhancing smallholder farmers’ access to seeds of improved groundnut varieties using multi-stakeholder platforms. Open Data Kit was used to collect information from the platform members using structured questionnaires and focus group discussions (FGDs). Descriptive statistics and adoption score were used to analyze the data. Selection of appropriate project location, reliable beneficiaries, timely supply of seeds, and training on good agronomic practices (GAPs) and effective supervision on production were the major thrusts of the TL III project. The results indicated that the IP members accrued additional income ranging from $214 to $453 per hectare for wet season. The same increase in beneficiaries’ income was reported per hectare for dry season from $193 to $823, respectively; all due to the TL III intervention. The results further indicated increasing access by farmers to services (e.g., improved seeds, extension, credit facilities, market, etc.) and enhanced productivity (farm size, pod and haulm yields). Findings further revealed an average increased market price of 21.5% and 18% for dry and wet season groundnut production, respectively. There was high adoption score (78%) of improved seeds and other GAPs. The study recommends the need to replicate similar interventions in other areas. Continued capacity building on GAPs and improved business management skills to Extension Agents and farmer groups will sustain the successes achieved by the TL III project.

A 2005–06 Multidisciplinary Senior Design team created a series of classroom activities designed to teach middle school students about engineering topics related to energy and the environment. This Traveling Engineering Activity Kit (TEAK) consists of five smaller kits, each based on a different energy-related theme: Heat Transfer, Electrical Energy, Wind and Water, Solar Power, and Chemical Energy. Each kit contains an Academic Activity to teach a background concept, a Hands-On Activity to allow students to apply the concepts learned, and a Take-Home Activity that can be done independently at home. The design team also developed instruction manuals suitable for non-engineers, lesson plans, handouts, and post-activity quizzes to assess participants’ learning. To date, the kits have been used by several hundred middle school students either in their classroom setting or while participating in on-campus outreach programs. This paper highlights the Heat Transfer TEAK including an overview of the intended learning outcomes; physical materials and set-ups included within the interactive kit; as well as details related to the development of the kit by a multi-disciplinary team of senior engineering students. Program and kit assessment progress is discussed based on feedback from design team members; middle school students and teachers. Future plans for refining current kits and expanding kit offerings are also discussed.

Biomass cofiring in existing coal fired boilers has emerged as one of the most prospective technologies in order to address voluntary reduction of green house gases and other emissions, potential portfolio standards, customer service etc. within the context of deregulations. Pilot plant test results have confirmed the potential of biomass cofiring with coal for commercial use. However, being a new and developing technology, there is hardly any tool available for estimation of variation in performance of an existing coal fired boiler due to its retrofitting for biomass cofiring. A predicting tool is developed to estimate this performance variation using available information of pilot plant test results in literature or from data of plant operating with biomass. In order to incorporate future available information, this is developed in a flexible environment of Model Development Kit (MDK) of IPSEpro, a commercially available heat and mass balance program. Development of the models for this predicting tool as well as its limitations and possible future improvement has been discussed in this paper. Some results regarding estimation of change in efficiency, emissions and associated costs using this developed predicting tool has been presented.

Language is planned, and plans themselves arer assessed in a multitude of countries in Europe and America, and to a lesser extent in Africa and Asia. In the presentation, the overview of the process of language planning is provided, based on the experience of language planning in various countries. The very first steps include a general assessment of the current linguistic and sociolinguistic situation, sustainability of the language(-s) concerned, trends, security aspects and various threats (social, regional, virtual), vision or desirable outcome with the description of main goals and sub-goals (with measurable quantitative data), activities and sub-activities with specific indicators measuring outcome, result or activity itself. The main motor of the whole process is status planning with legal, managerial, and PR-level (language marketing). For this planning to succeed, timely input from other language planning dimensions is necessary, first of all, from the corpus planning (general orthographic and grammatical standardization, geographical, business and personal name policies, terminology development and development of the domain of translation and interpreting, subtitling and dubbing). These standards are implemented in the educational system, providing education through various monolingual or multilingual educational programmes / models. Language technology as a support dimension must be developed in the level of a minimal survival kit, securing competitiveness in this way. Finally some typical misunderstandings and mistakes, drawbacks and failures are discussed that might help future language planners and thus, foster better results.

The development of a corium pool in the lower head and its behavior is still a critical issue and is of great importance to assess the severe accident progression consequences to ensure the nuclear plant safety. Therefore, experimental efforts are a vital element of the assessment process, providing hard data and insights of the complicated multi-component, highly turbulent corium pool dynamics. It is essential to consider the whole evolution of the accident, including e.g. formation and growth of the in-core melt pool, characteristics of corium arrival in the lower head, and molten pool behavior after the debris re-melting. These phenomena have a strong impact on a potential termination of a severe accident. The general objective of the LIVE program at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is to study these phenomena experimentally in large-scale 3D geometry and in supporting separate-effects tests, with emphasis on the transient behavior. The LIVE-L4 experiment was performed using a non-eutectic melt (KNO3-NaNO3) as a simulant fluid. Besides the transient behavior, for which the LIVE-L4 test provides qualified data on temperature evolution in the molten pool and crust growth rates, the experiment addresses other important phenomena, such as the local distribution of heat flux, and the influence of solidification on the thermal-hydraulics of the pool, i.e. the possible existence of a mushy region and its impact on the heat transfer. In the post-test analysis crust thickness profile along the vessel wall, the crust composition and the morphology were determined. The results of this experiment also allow a comparison with findings obtained earlier in other experimental programs. The LIVE-L4 experimental results are being used for the assessment of correlations and development and validation of mechanistic models for the description of molten pool behavior. These calculations are complemented by analyses with the CFD code CONV (thermal hydraulics of heterogeneous, viscous and heat-generating melts) which was developed at IBRAE. The CONV code was applied to simulate the LIVE-L4 test: a) assuming homogeneous heat generation in the liquid and b) accounting for wire heaters used to simulate the heat generation in the melt. Though the results of calculations demonstrate satisfactory agreement with the experimental measurements, deficiencies in the code prediction have been identified regarding e.g. the prediction of the crust thickness. The paper summarizes the objectives of the LIVE program, the main results obtained in the LIVE-L4 experiment and the results of the post-test calculations performed with the CONV code.

Abstract:
Currently, increase in thermodynamic efficiency of water-cooled Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) can only be achieved by raising the coolant’s operating conditions above the supercritical point. The critical point of water is 22.06 MPa and 373.95°C, making supercritical water research very power-intensive and expensive. CO2 behaves in a similar manner once in the supercritical state, but at significantly lower pressure and temperature, since critical point of CO2 is 7.37 MPa and 30.98°C. The applications of supercritical CO2 research range from using it as a modelling fluid, to supercritical turbine applications in Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors (LMFBRs), and use in a supercritical Brayton cycle. Therefore, it is of prime importance to model its behaviour as accurately as possible. For this purpose, experimental data of Koppel (1960), He (2005), Kim (2005) and Bae (2007) for CO2 were analyzed, and a new correlation was developed. The dataset consists of 1409 wall temperature points with pressures ranging from 7.58 to 9.58 MPa, mass fluxes from 419 to 1200 kg/m2s, and heat fluxes from 20 to 130 kW/m2. All runs take place in bare tubes of inner diameters from 0.948 to 9.00 mm in both vertical and horizontal configurations. The proposed correlation takes a wall-temperature approach to predicting the Nusselt number. This paper compares the new correlation with other work which has been done at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology by Mokry et al. (2009), as well as with correlations by Swenson et al. (1965) and Dittus-Boelter (1930). It was found that the new correlation has an overall RMS error of 13% for Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) values and 5% for calculated wall temperature values. The correlation can be used as a conservative approach to predict wall temperature values in Supercritical Water Reactor (SCWR) preliminary calculations, to predict heat transfer in secondary-loop turbine/ heat exchanger applications, as with the LMFBR, and to help validate scaling parameters used for water and other coolants.
