This paper explores a low-cost portable visible light communication (VLC) system to support the increasing needs of lightweight mobile applications. VLC grows rapidly in the past decade for many applications (e.g., indoor data transmission, human sensing, and visual MIMO) due to its RF interference immunity and inherent high security. However, most existing VLC systems heavily rely on fixed infrastructures with less adaptability to emerging lightweight mobile applications. This work proposes Light Storage, a portable VLC system takes the advantage of commercial smartphone flashlights as the tr

Abstract: German physicist Harald Haas made the possibility of Li-Fi, or Light Devotion. It’s a strategy for communicating information without the need of radio waves, similar to Wi- Fi. It works by causing LEDs, which are specific lights, to streak quickly to communicate information. This happens more rapidly than our eyes can follow. Apparent light correspondence or optical remote innovations are different names for Li-Fi. This study looks at this imaginative innovation and draws correlations with Wi-Fi. Current planning procedures usually involve an ad hoc treatment of transfer penalties based on various assumptions of wait time and value of time. To better as

Deep learning has dominated the computer vision field since 2012, but a common criticism of deep learning methods is their dependence on large amounts of data. To combat this criticism research into data-efficient deep learning is growing. The foremost success in data-efficient deep learning is transfer learning with networks pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset. Pre-trained networks have achieved state-of-the-art performance on many tasks. We consider the pre-trained network method for a new task where we have to collect the data. We hypothesize that the data efficiency of pre-trained networks

ATM emerged commercially in the beginning of the 1990's. It was designed to provide a different quality of service at a speed up 100 Gbps for both real time and non real time application. The turn of the 90's saw a variety of technologies being developed. This project analyzes these technologies, compares them to the Asynchronous Transfer Mode and assesses the future of ATM.

This report summarises demonstrated benefit from integrating BOOS and HELCOM observations with CMEMS observations, including i) improved observation data accessibility by BOOS, CMEMS INSTAC and EMODnet, ii) improved quality of frequently updated CMEMS reanalysis, and iii) improved quality and update frequency of eutrophication assessment in the Baltic Sea based on the reanalysis. Also, feasibility for extending this approach to other regional seas, other indicators, and fishery advice applications is analysed and recommendations from the workshop on “Full value chain integration for monitoring

Abstract:
We assess the non-contributory cash transfer systems in 17 Latin American and Caribbean countries to identify factors that keep them from reducing poverty and inequality. To perform this assessment, we analyze three dimensions of size (number of beneficiaries, size of transfer per beneficiary, and size of total budget) and three dimensions of targeting (coverage, leakage, and quality of demographic targeting). We identify 67 programs, which fall into three broad categories: conditional cash transfers, non-contributory pensions, and other transfers. We use an international poverty line of 6.85

In August 2021, the IMF made a new SDR allocation to help ease pandemic-induced financial strains in the Global South. This paper assesses the potential of the SDR system to address debtrelated problems in global finance. Not opening scientific data is costly. It has been estimated that a significant share of scientific knowledge disappears every year. In a 2014 study less than half of biological datasets from the 1990s have been recovered and when possible the recovery has necessitated significant time and efforts. In comparison, 98% of datasets published on PLOS with unique identifiers (data DOIs) are still available for future research. Open scientific data are fundamental resources for a large variety of scientific activities: meta-analysis, replication of research results or accessibility to primary source
