Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the reliability of countermovement jump (CMJ) performance metrics across five NCAA Division I varsity sports using Generalizability Theory (G-Theory). Three hundred male athletes from football, hockey, baseball, soccer, and lacrosse performed three or more CMJs on dual-force platforms. G-Theory was applied to identify variance components and determine reliability coefficients (Φ) for 14 key metrics. Metrics requiring more than three jumps to achieve Φ 0.80 were deemed unreliable. Metric reliability varied by sport and phase of movement. Metrics associated with the

Player metrics are an invaluable resource for game designers and QA analysts who wish to understand players, monitor and improve game play, and test design hypotheses. Usually such metrics are collected in a straightforward manner by passively recording players; however, such an approach has several potential drawbacks. First, passive recording might fail to record metrics which correspond to an infrequent player behavior. Secondly, passive recording can be a costly, laborious, and memory intensive process, even with the aid of tools. In this paper, we explore the potential for an active appro

People often use multiple metrics in image processing, but here we take a novel approach of mining the values of batteries of metrics on image processing results. We present a case for extending image processing methods to incorporate automated mining of multiple image metric values. This paper addresses the task of time delay and direction of arrival estimation for a source of the wideband signal using two sensors with fixed displacement. The peculiarity of the task statement is that a limited time of signal observation is supposed and additive noise is assumed non-Gaussian with a heavy-tail distribution. This leads to a high probability of abnormal estimates for the conventional signal processing method based on cross-correlation. To decrease this probability, it is proposed to reformulate the task of cross-correlation processing to the task of similarity estimation betw

Abstract:
The traditional approach of managing project performance is with the use of Earned Value Management. There is a recent trend towards the expansion of traditional Earned Value Management practices to include the concept of Earned Schedule. Whereas Earned Value provides insight as to how the project is trending in relation to the plan by assessing cost and schedule variances, Earned Schedule focuses on the time element of schedule performance throughout the project execution phase. Earned Value, although very effective at providing visibility to cost performance, is not as transparent when it co

Abstract:
With the effects of climate change becoming more evident every year, preventing and, ideally, reversing it is a pressing challenge. The Paris Agreement was a milestone in the fight against climate change, establishing a series of specific targets for 2050. The agreement sets out various goals, including to hold the increase in the global temperature to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the increase to 1.5°C. Assessing the world’s progress towards this goal requires forward-looking information on the transition to net-zero of countries, companies and the finan

Full text
Abstract:
Satellite image-derived vehicle counts were used to measure local economic activity following the opening of the new terminal at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the Philippines. Results reveal that the terminal’s opening has had positive impacts on Cebu’s local economy. A comparison of the vehicle count measure with luminosity-derived metrics suggests that the former is better at capturing seasonal and spatial variations in treatment effects, especially for beach tourism activities in Cebu.

Abstract:
This report presents baseline (2016–2019) results from Ungulate Management Plan (UMP) monitoring of sensitive and important wetlands at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve (GRSA) by the Rocky Mountain Network. At GRSA’s request we also include several management recommendations in the Discussion. Wetlands harbor disproportionately high levels of biodiversity and support iconic species like elk (Cervus canadensis) and bison (Bison bison). We develop Ungulate Use Indices (UUIs) from dung, collar, and camera trap data to quantify elk and bison use of wetlands. We estimate Wetland Conditio

Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) traditionally uses two metrics to evaluate the maintenance of coastal navigation projects: tonnage at the associated port (representing relative importance) and the controlling depth in the channel (representing operating condition). These are incorporated into a risk-based decision framework directing funds where channel conditions have deteriorated and the disrupted tonnage potential is the highest. However, these metrics fail to capture shipper demand for the maintained depth service provided by the USACE through dredging. Using automatic identificatio

Abstract:
This research explores the application of two different probe data standards to transit performance measurement. The first section chronicles the proposed and implemented transit uses of dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) technologies during the two decades between the standard’s emergence and its announced sunset. The research finds that, despite proposed applications across safety, operation, and information domains, DSRC never became embedded in transit operations. By contrast, the general transit feed specification (GTFS) standard with its real-time (RT) extension has been widely e

The exercise contains background information, including two powerpoint presentations, using real data from the Bilsa rainforest in Ecuador on tropical bird diversity, and a guided tutorial for the use of R to analyze biodiversity metrics. The module also includes the complete R script with instructional notations as well as all necessary data files. Abstract:
The Southern Colorado Plateau Inventory and Monitoring Network monitors status and long-term trends in the aquatic macroinvertebrate community and associated habitat in order to track changes in the ecological integrity of stream ecosystems. This report investigates changes in key aquatic macroinvertebrate community indices and physical habitat metrics collected from two long-term monitoring sites on the Mancos River in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. Results suggest that both monitoring sites have experienced periods of thermal and hydrologic stress. These stresses occur concurrently and
