Abstract:
DaVinci is an educational company that has two backing departments. One is aimed at children, namely DaVinci Publisher, and the other is for adults, namely DaVinci Academie. DaVinci Publisher is a department that offers education methods for children, and its vision is to develop kids with their educational products and materials about a way of thinking and learning. DaVinci Publisher has already gotten products to support children’s education from the design of the visuals and supporting media like textbooks, workbooks, binders, etc. However, DaVinci Academie still has nothing to support the education for adults and its target audiences who consist of directors, manager teachers, etc., and do not know about the messages that it carries. Finding the requirements to produce a suitable design of the visuals and the supporting media are needed to support the messages within a travel journey concept given by DaVinci Academie.

Abstract:
Some 350 years before the invention of photography, Leonardo DaVinci may very well have produced the first photograph - the Shroud of Turin. This extraordinary hypothesis attracted shroud experts Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince, and their efforts to prove or disprove this theory resulted in their recent book Turin Shroud. During their shroud investigations, the authors delved deeply into historical lore, piecing together diverse facts and opinions including those of such figures as the Knights of Templar, alchemists, secret societies, and even Pope innocent VIII. The authors provided convincing evidence that the shroud could have been produced using photograph i c -like techniques that were within the identified capabilities of DaVinci. Most importantly, the authors were able to recreate shroud "look-alike" images with materials and techniques believed to be available to, or devised by, Leonardo DaVinci in the creation of the Turin Shroud.

Abstract:
Teleoperated robotic surgical systems such as daVinci are widely used for laparoscopic surgeries. The currently available daVinci system does not provide haptic feedback. Prior research has shown that the addition of haptic feedback improves surgeons' performance during minimally invasive surgeries. Other authors have implemented haptic feedback in the daVinci robot, but some issues made them impractical for clinical use. In this work, two strain gauge force-sensing devices were created for the patient side manipulator of the daVinci surgical robot. These devices were designed to be easily added to the existing system and used for the real-time force feedback in the daVinci robot. The proposed system has high sensitivity and resolution, matches the required force measurement range, and has high signal-to-noise ratio, which implies high signal quality. However, the absolute errors of the currently built devices are high due to the manufacturing techniques used on the prototype that could be improved upon for a deployed device. This work demonstrates fast 3-DOF force measurements on the daVinci robot without any robot or instrument modifications. While the present system has significant systematic errors, these can be mitigated by altering the mechanical design to improve the accuracy of the system.

Abstract:

Hwang, Sunwoo. "Hope for the restoration of the Davidic kingdom in the light of the Davidic covenant in Chronicles." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/5465.

Full text
Abstract:
Chronicles was composed in the postexilic period when the Jews were without their own king and were living under the rule of the Persian Empire and the Greek dynasties of the Ptolemies and Seleucids. In view of the apparently eternal nature of the Davidic covenant (2 Sam 7:11b-16), this loss of sovereignty would have posed a difficult problem for the Jews. To be sure, Zerubbabel, grandson of Jehoiachin, penultimate king of the Davidic kingdom, was appointed as governor of Yehud by the Persian king Darius (Hag 1:1) and received YHWH’s promise of being his ‘signet ring’ (Hag 2:23); however, he could not and did not re-establish the kingdom of David. When the Jews lost their political leadership in the postexilic period, religious personnel appeared to play an increasingly important role as leaders of the Temple centered community. Along with Zerubbabel, Joshua, the high priest of the Jewish community that had returned from the exile, led the project of rebuilding the Temple (Hag 1:1; Ezra 3:2). The book of Chronicles reflects this Temple-centered community and deals in much detail with issues relating to the cultic personnel. The two main figures in Chronicles, David and Solomon, are presented respectively as the one who prepares (1 Chr 22; 28:1-29:20), and the one who completes (2 Chr 2:1-5:1) the Temple building project. Furthermore, the Chronicler evaluates the Judaic kings who reigned after Solomon in relation to their piety and their service in the Temple.5 Those who were considered ‘good’ kings worshipped God in the Temple according to the divine commandment, diligently repairing and restoring the Temple, whereas those who were considered ‘bad’ kings were negligent in their worship of YHWH and in their preservation of the Temple. In the context of this postexilic Temple-centred cultic society, the question may be asked: Does the Chronicler hope for the revival of the Davidic kingdom in view of the seemingly and eternally binding, unconditional Davidic covenant (2 Sam 7:12-16; 1 Chr 17:11-14), or is he satisfied with its replacement by the postexilic, Temple-centered cultic society?.

Jay, Julien P. A. "Modelling the germination of Buddleia Davidii under constant conditions with the hydrothermal time concept." Thesis, University of Canterbury. Forestry, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/1100.

Full text
Abstract:
Buddleia davidii is a weed naturalized in New Zealand. It invades radiata pine plantations and causes major growth reduction and economic losses. Modelling its germination for predicting its occurrence will help foresters minimise its influence in forest plantations. Germination experiments have been carried out in laboratory to assess the influence of seed origin, defoliation, temperature and water stress on germination. Defoliation treatments did not significantly affect germination. The pattern of germination for seeds from four different places within New Zealand revealed so little difference that there is no need to define different models according to the site considered. However this similarity in germination pattern is limited to New Zealand and cannot be generalised to other countries where germination appears to be significantly different. The germination of Buddleia davidii seed appeared to be a function of hydrothermal time. The base, optimum and ceiling temperatures for Buddleia are respectively 9, 25 and from 30 to 35?, and Buddleia seed germinate between 0 and approximately -6 bars. In constant conditions, the predicted germination for Buddleia davidii with the thermal time model was limited to sub-optimal temperatures and the hydrotime and hydrothermal time models described well the germination pattern at any temperature and water potential. The modified hydrothermal time model proposed by Alvarado and Bradford (2002) most accurately predicted germination although it tended to overestimate the asymptotes. Overall the hydrothermal time model allowed prediction of actual timing of germination with much accuracy. This threshold model can therefore be used for modelling the germination of Buddleia davidii subjected to constant temperature and water potential conditions.
