Abstract:
Abstract When Daniel Dayan and Elihu Katz published their seminal book Media Events: The Live Broadcasting of History in 1992, television occupied centre stage, whereas computer networks were only beginning to be used. Since the late 1990s, television and digital media have co-existed and co-evolved in still more entangled ways. In this article, I ask how the supplementing of television by a new media form, the Web, has affected the ways media events as understood by Dayan and Katz can unfold and be conceptualised. Based on a medium theory perspective where focus is more on “media” and less on “event”, I introduce the article by tracing how Dayan and Katz understand television as a medium. Then follows a brief account of the vast literature about Media Events, with a particular focus on how digital media are conceptualised. With these two sections as a stepping stone, the Web's digital features are outlined, followed by a historical analysis of the interplay of the development of the Web and a concrete media event: the Olympics from 1996 to 2016. Finally, this web historical outline is used to re-evaluate Dayan and Katz's conceptualisation of media events. The analysis is guided by three themes – liveness, control, and participation – pivotal for Dayan and Katz's understanding of media events as well as the history of the Web.

Abstract:
Abstract Wet walls in ancient masonry buildings are common due to rainfall, groundwater and other environmental factors, and usually accompanied by the degradation phenomena such as powdering, shedding, salting out, which threatens the value and safety of ancient buildings. It is found that the bottom of Dayan Pagoda has been damp and gloomy for a long time. In recent 40 years, the waterline at the bottom has risen by about 0.5 ∼1m, and the wet area on the north wall is as high as 5m. This paper aims to clarify the cause of the rising waterline and the water source of Dayan Pagoda. The correlation between degradation of Dayan pagoda and environmental factors such as temperature, rainfall and solar radiation was established. Firstly, there was a field measurement on the waterline height in different orientations of Dayan Tower; Then, a coupled heat and moisture transfer model was developed to obtain the hygrothermal distribution in the brick wall, and the impact of rainfall and groundwater was evaluated, and the rising trend of waterline in the future was predicted. The field measured results show that during 2018-2020, the waterline of the west wall of Dayan Pagoda has the largest rise (about 20cm), while the south wall has the smallest rise (about 10cm). The simulation results show that the water source of rising waterline is mainly wind-driven rain rather than groundwater rising. The result contributes to propose environmental control measures to alleviate the degradation of masonry buildings caused by water.

Abstract:
The lake depressions in the Mongolian Altai Mountains, and the issues related to their formation have yet to be thoroughly examined in previous research. Previous studies primarily focused on the paleogeographical evolution and glaciation dynamics of the Altai Mountains. This study presents relationships between tectonic and glacial processes that have formed the lake depressions, such asKhoton, Khurgan, Dayan, Khar (western), and Khar (eastern) in the Mongolian Altai Mountains. The depressions of Khoton, Khurgan, and Dayan lakes are situated along regional fault zones, extending in an northwest-southeast direction, forming intermontane depressions directly connected to the Mongolian Altai Mountains. However, the depressions of Dayan, Khar (western), and Khar (eastern) lakes have been dammed by moraine deposits in the near portion of the depression. The compliance matrix of tectonic geomorphological criteria indicates that the Khoton, Khurgan, Dayan Lake, and Khar (western) Lake depressions are more than 50% compatible. Similarly, the compliance matrix for glacial eomorphological criteria indicates more than 60% compliance for all lake depressions. The Mongolian Altai intermontane depressions are thus of tectonic origin, whereas the lakes have a glacial origin, resulting from dammed moraine sediments. The significanceof this work lies in demonstrating how geomorphological research can be employed to provide a detailed understanding of the pattern of lake depressions.

Abstract:
This paper examines the father figure in the autobiographies of the Palestinian poet Fadwa Tuqan (1917-2003) and the Israeli novelist Yael Dayan (1939-present). In the early half of the twentieth century, Nablusi women, exemplified by Fadwa, did not have the chance to participate in the political life until the nakba in 1948. Women subsequently became freer and could gain more access to the social and political life which normally monopolized by patriarchs. In the same year, i.e. 1948, Tuqan's father died, so he was not present later to share the success of his daughter. Hence, the picture of the father that Fadwa draws in her autobiography A Mountainous Journey (1990) is mainly bounded to the domestic life. Dayan, unlike Fadwa, was given the infinite freedom to experience life since childhood. Although most Jewish women in the Israeli community obtained the same opportunities at the time, she was more privileged because she was the daughter of the famous Israeli leader Moshe Dayan. In her autobiography My Father, His Daughter (1986), Yael talks extensively about her father's political position and how it affected her life negatively and positively. This paper henceforth sheds light on dominant social and political patriarchal ideologies in the two autobiographies and how they are represented differently, that is: Tuqan's social father and Dayan's political father.

Abstract:
Biological systems—like ourselves—are constantly faced with uncertainty. Despite noisy sensory data, and volatile environments, creatures appear to actively maintain their integrity. To account for this remarkable ability to make optimal decisions in the face of a capricious world, we propose a generative model that represents the beliefs an agent might possess about their own uncertainty. By simulating a noisy and volatile environment, we demonstrate how uncertainty influences optimal epistemic (visual) foraging. In our simulations, saccades were deployed less frequently to regions with a lower sensory precision, while a greater volatility led to a shorter inhibition of return. These simulations illustrate a principled explanation for some cardinal aspects of visual foraging—and allow us to propose a correspondence between the representation of uncertainty and ascending neuromodulatory systems, complementing that suggested by Yu & Dayan (Yu & Dayan 2005 Neuron 46 , 681–692. Abstract:
Homomorphic encryption technology is the holy grail of cryptography and has a wide range of applications in practice. This paper proposes a homomorphic encryption scheme over the fraction based on the Chinese remainder theorem (CRT) Dayan qiuyi rule. This homomorphic scheme performs encryption and decryption operations by forming congruence groups and has homomorphism. The solution in this paper first combines the traditional CRT algorithm with the Dayan qiuyi rule to obtain the CRTF algorithm that can be operated on the fraction field. Finally, in the decryption process, modulo arithmetic is used twice to obtain the correct plaintext components, restored to plaintext by CRTF. The scheme’s security is related to a decisional version of an approximate GCD problem. The proof of theoretical derivation shows that this paper’s homomorphic encryption scheme can realize the homomorphic addition operation in the fraction field. Compared with the CKKS scheme, efficiency is improved.

Abstract:
Perceptual systems routinely separate “content” from “style,” classifying familiar words spoken in an unfamiliar accent, identifying a font or handwriting style across letters, or recognizing a familiar face or object seen under unfamiliar viewing conditions. Yet a general and tractable computational model of this ability to untangle the underlying factors of perceptual observations remains elusive (Hofstadter, 1985). Existing factor models (Mardia, Kent, & Bibby, 1979; Hinton & Zemel, 1994; Ghahramani, 1995; Bell & Sejnowski, 1995; Hinton, Dayan, Frey, & Neal, 1995; Dayan, Hinton, Neal, & Zemel, 1995; Hinton & Ghahramani, 1997) are either insufficiently rich to capture the complex interactions of perceptually meaningful factors such as phoneme and speaker accent or letter and font, or do not allow efficient learning algorithms. We present a general framework for learning to solve two-factor tasks using bilinear models, which provide sufficiently expressive representations of factor interactions but can nonetheless be fit to data using efficient algorithms based on the singular value decomposition and expectation-maximization. We report promising results on three different tasks in three different perceptual domains: spoken vowel classification with a benchmark multi-speaker database, extrapolation of fonts to unseen letters, and translation of faces to novel illuminants.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Syiah Kuala University has the Dayan Dawood Academic Activity Center (AAC) Building as a non-academic business unit that focuses on renting rooms and facilities for various purposes. This building is very often used for various activities, but unfortunately, the rental procedure is still conventional so it is prone to errors and loss of reservation data so the income calculation is not optimal. In addition, price and facility information is not yet accessible to the public. The problem will be solved by creating a website-based information system that can manage the rental of the Dayan Dawood Academic Activity Center (AAC) building with two groups of users, namely admins and tenants. This system was built using the CodeIgniter framework and MYSQL database. The system creation process applies the Scrum method as project management. System testing consists of functionality testing using Black Box Testing and Usability Testing using UMUX-LITE. Black Box Testing has successfully run all test scenarios as they should. Usability Testing was conducted on 29 respondents and resulted in a score of 83.97, the application is in the "A" category so it can be concluded that the application can be accepted with a grade scale of "B" and its adjective rating is "Good".

Abstract:
Dayan and Katz’s book Media Events was so crucial because it challenged the dominance of quantitative communications research focused on measurable discrete ‘media effects’. But meanwhile new challenges have emerged which we called ‘deep mediatization’ – datafication, deeper fragmentation of the audience, and over the longer-term threats to the underlying economic viability of the large-scale integrated media producers that could put on ‘media events’. This makes it necessary to rethink the original definition of media events.
