2013-2014 La tesi di dottorato verte essenzialmente sul volgarizzamento delle Metamorfosi ovidiane, realizzato da Niccolò degli Agostini e pubblicato nel 1522 a Venezia: Tutti li libri de Ovidio Metamorphoseos tradutti dal litteral in verso vulgar con le sue Allegorie in prosa. Lo studio dell’opera ha richiesto una complessa metodologia di approccio non solo a livello filologico, ma anche comparatistico e plurilinguistico. Probabilmente l’opera di degli Agostini è una riscrittura dell’Ovidio Metamorphoseos vulgare di Giovanni Bonsignori, realizzato tra il 1375 e il 1377: in difficoltà per la scarsa conoscenza del latino, degli Agostini avrebbe effettuato una parafrasi del precedente testo volgare, discostandosi e / o manipolando i versi ovidiani. Da un puntuale confronto con l’edizione critica della traduzione del Bonsignori è stato possibile individuare non solo quanto e in che modo degli Agostini l’abbia tenuta presente, ma anche quanto e in che modo lo stesso Bonsignori si sia avvicinato al lavoro espositivo delle Metamorfosi compiuto da Giovanni del Virgilio che a sua volta si era rifatto ad Arnolfo d’Orléans, precursore, fin dal 1175, della storia e della fortuna dei commenti e dei volgarizzamenti dell’opera ovidiana. At various times and in different ways, social ideals were projected for the nation in construction, which was formed in policies of the elites associated with the Imperial government and in economy based on slavery. Such notions that formed, at the same time, the basis of ideal departure and the end of destination, were benchmarks taken in Europe, particularly in France, where the development of the art industrial hinder a firm pace of constant acceleration, signaling an irreversible process of progress and civilization. In this context, as justifying the option for the imported models, the caipira, social subject relegated to the historical ostracism, is going to be used as a representation of the non-progress and the non-civilized. This study seeks then to interpret, within the benchmark methodology of Depth Hermeneutics, and within the conceptual structures developed in Cultural History, as symbolic expressions built with the image of caipira had potential to operate as ideology, in this specific social and historic context Ao longo do desenvolvimento histórico de constituição da nação brasileira, a partir do século XIX, acentuam-se idealizações de construção de uma sociedade baseada nas noções de progresso e civilização. Em diversos momentos e de diferentes modos, projetavam-se ideais sociais para a nação em construção, que se formava nas políticas das elites associadas ao governo Imperial e numa economia fundamentada na escravidão. Essas noções que constituíam, ao mesmo tempo, a base ideal de partida e o termo de destino, eram referenciais tomados da Europa, especialmente da França, onde o desenvolvimento da técnica industrial entrava numa cadência firme de aceleração constante, sinalizando um processo irreversível de progresso e civilização. Neste contexto, como que uma justificativa da opção pelos modelos importados, o caipira, sujeito social relegado a um ostracismo histórico, passa a ser utilizado como representação do não progresso e do não civilizado. Este estudo procura, então, interpretar, dentro do referencial metodológico da Hermenêutica de Profundidade, e dos arcabouços conceituais desenvolvidos na História Cultural, como que as expressões simbólicas construídas com a imagem do caipira tinham potencial para operar como ideologia neste contexto social e histórico específico

Abstract:

Este estudo procura investigar e interpretar a trajetória artística, jornalística, política e intelectual do caricaturista ítalo-brasileiro Angelo Agostini (1843-1910). Sua estréia profissional, em São Paulo, coincide com o início da Guerra do Paraguai, em 1864, e seus últimos trabalhos acontecem quando a República oligárquica está consolidada, em 1908. Agostini assiste à decadência das últimas engrenagens do Império, assentado no trabalho escravo e na grande propriedade da terra e, em seguida, testemunha o advento da República e a nova inserção do Brasil no mercado internacional, através do fornecimento de matérias-primas aos países centrais e da entrada maciça de capitais externos aqui. Esteticamente, ele foi o principal artista gráfico em atividade, no Brasil, na segunda metade do século XIX e realizador de alguns marcos na história da imprensa brasileira, como a Revista Illustrada. Introdutor das histórias em quadrinhos entre nós, deixou como legado uma obra vasta, diferenciada e irregular. No plano político, foi um ativista na luta pela Abolição da escravatura. Nosso propósito é evidenciar como as transformações empresariais e técnicas na atividade de imprensa interferem no trabalho das artes gráficas. Ao mesmo tempo, tentaremos examinar em que consistiu a militância política de Agostini no âmbito jornalístico, quem eram seus parceiros, com quais setores de classe se articulava e qual o significado da campanha abolicionista para uma parcela da elite urbana. This work intends to research and interpret the artistic, journalistic, political and intellectual career of the Italian-Brazilian cartoonist Angelo Agostini (1843-1910). His professional debut takes place in 1864, in São Paulo, when the Paraguay War was beginning, and his last works are published when the Oligarchic Republic is already consolidated, in 1907. Agostini witnesses the decay of the Brazilian Empire´s last ties - supported by slave work and large landed states. Following that, he also sees the raising of the Republic and Brazil´s new insertion in the international market - supplying raw material to central economies, and the massive income of external capital into the country. Esthetically wise, he was the main graphic artist at work in the second half of the nineteen century in Brazil. He accomplished some deeds in the history of the Brazilian press, such as the Revista Illustrada. Agostini was also the first one to introduce comic narrative into the country and his legacy was a vast artistic creation although diversified and irregular. In the political field, he was an activist in the struggle for the abolition of slavery. The objective of this study is to point out how business and technical changes in press activities interfere in the final work - the graphic work. Along with that, we also try to investigate how Agostini performed his political action in the journalistic milieu, who his partners were, which class sectors he was connected with, and what the abolitionist campaign meant for a sector of the white urban elite.

No entanto os aspectos ligados a sua obra como pintor e crítico de arte são apenas brevemente mencionadas, mesmo estando estas em diálogo com seu entendimento político. Essa pesquisa constatou que as questões ligadas à arte tiveram um espaço relevante no trabalho jornalístico de Agostini, da mesma maneira que sua atividade como pintor, embora pouco mencionada, estaria presente em toda a sua vida profissional, além de ter precedido seu início na imprensa ilustrada brasileira. Observa-se um discurso de valorização da arte e do artista, considerados peças de grande importância na construção da nação bem como da aproximação do Brasil aos ideais civilizacionais europeus. Este estudo procura evidenciar o artista Angelo Agostini, pois acreditamos que sua formação artística fornece a base para as ilustrações dos periódicos com os quais colaborou, o que pode ser observado, por exemplo, na manipulação da linguagem pictórica. O trabalho gráfico aparece em diálogo, em diversos momentos, com suas criações plásticas, ambos reveladores de debates contemporâneos ao artista. Apresenta-se neste estudo a análise da prática artística de Angelo Agostini, bem como do discurso que a acompanha, empreendida tanto em seu trabalho gráfico quanto pictural. Abstract:In the last years the interest for the work of Angelo Agostini is growing, overcoat as regards his political acting and abolition ideas in the press. However the connected aspects his work as painter and critic of art are mentioned only shortly, even being this in dialog with his political understanding. This inquiry noted that the questions connected with the art had a relevant space in the journalistic work of Agostini, of the same way that his activity like painter, though little mentioned, it would be present in his professional life, besides having preceded his beginning in the illustrated Brazilian press. There is observed a speech of increase in value of the art and of the artist, thought pieces of great importance in the construction of the nation as well as of the approximation of Brazil to the ideals European of civilization. This study tries to show the artist Angelo Agostini up, since we believe that his artistic formation supplies the base for the illustrations of the magazines with which it collaborated, which can be observed, for example, in the handling of the pictorial language. The graphic work appears in dialog, at several moments, with his plastic creations, both revealers of contemporary discussions to the artist. Abstract:

Licenciado en artes, con mención en teoría e historia del arte Tesis no autorizada por el autor para ser publicada a texto completo. La idea original de esta tesis fue analizar la presencia indígena en el cine documental chileno, pero frente al gran número de obras recopiladas y la escasa bibliografía especializada referida al tema, se determinó acotar el estudio al origen de esta presencia, tomando entonces una orientación monográfica hacia el documental ‘Patagonia’, dirigido por Alberto de Agostini. La decisión responde a que en el primer sondeo se pudo establecer que dicha obra es la primera creación documental filmada en territorio nacional que sistematizó la representación de pueblos indígenas en estas latitudes; para estos efectos es ese el criterio que nos ha guiado y no-por ejemplo- la procedencia del equipo realizador (en este caso, italiano), pues la motivación central del estudio radica en la observación de los patrones que han primado para presentar al indígena de un modo específico. Ahondar cómo pudo influir esta obra inaugural en las producciones posteriores será una tarea para próximas investigaciones. Aproximarse al origen del cine chileno conlleva una dificultad intrínseca: muchas de las primeras películas se encuentran desaparecidas; junto con ello, las primeras fuentes bibliográficas especializadas dedicadas al estudio del cine nacional surgen recién en la década de 1950. Desde entonces hasta la actualidad, se conocen medio centenar de obras escritas al respecto y casi una decena de revistas especializadas. Además, de esta exigua producción escrita, casi la mitad se compone como compendio histórico de periodos más o menos extensos y el resto se caracteriza por su orientación monográfica consagrada a una obra o un director. Así, pese a que la producción fílmica es cada vez mayor, son escasas las referencias o estudios específicos sobre temas o asuntos particulares.

The political caricatures that allow people to understand the process which resulted in the elaboration, approval and applicability of the Lei do Sexagenário (Sexagenarian Law) is analyzed. Ângelo Agostini made the abolitionist campaign from Ceará public, he also noticed errors on the law, he used to speak ironically about politicians who expected to be benefited by the slaves proprietors and ridiculate the minister Saraiva, considered by artists as the defender of the attempt to postpone the abolition of the slavery. The relation between the Catholic Church and the Brazilian State about the slavery is analyzed; and how Ângelo Agostini, with the caricatures, used to denounce the torture applied to the slaves by their proprietors and by the police, being ignorated by Brazilian Bishops silence The change of the Imperial Family position about the servile element, like the requirement of the elaboration, approval of the Áurea Law by the Senate, were mentioned by Ângelo Agostini in his caricatures, that magnified the Princess Isabel image as the biggest responsible for the abolition of the slavery in Brazil, admired by the whole Brazilian population, mainly by the free slaves A proposta deste trabalho é, a partir da análise das caricaturas produzidas por Ângelo Agostini, na Revista Illustrada, entre os anos de 1884 e 1888, estudar o processo histórico que culminou no fim do uso de mão-de-obra escrava no Brasil. São analisadas caricaturas políticas que possibilitaram entender o processo que resultou na elaboração, aprovação e aplicação da Lei do Sexagenário. Ângelo Agostini divulgou a propaganda abolicionista cearense, apontou falhas nas propostas da lei, ironizou políticos que buscavam benefícios aos senhores de escravos e zombou do Ministro Saraiva, considerado pelo artista como o defensor da tentativa de postergação da abolição da escravidão. É estudada a relação entre a Igreja Católica e o Estado Brasileiro na questão do escravismo; e como Ângelo Agostini, através das caricaturas, denunciava as torturas aplicadas aos escravos por seus senhores e pela polícia, sendo ignoradas pelo silêncio dos Bispos brasileiros. A mudança de postura da Família Imperial sobre a questão do elemento servil, como a solicitação da elaboração e aprovação pelo Senado da Lei Áurea, foi relatada por Ângelo Agostini em suas caricaturas, que exaltaram a figura da Princesa Isabel como grande responsável pela abolição da escravidão no Brasil, admirada por toda população brasileira, principalmente pelos escravos libertos

Os Tessalonicenses paulinos de meados do século I e os Contestados sul-brasileiros do século XX evidenciam, em suas histórias, uma disputa teológico-prática que percorre toda a história do cristianismo, a saber, os refluxos escatológicos decorrentes da assimilação de tradições apocalípticas. Os documentos referentes aos dois contextos serão lidos à contrapelo, à maneira benjaminiana, auxiliados pelas abordagens dos historiadores Ginzburg, Koselleck e Hartog no que tange à compreensão dos fluxos do tempo histórico. Pelas influências já identificadas no quadro de pregadores itinerantes no messianismo-escatológico do Contestado e pela necessidade dialógica da aproximação com a comunidade cristã antiga de Tessalônica, um momento mais recuado e ligado à atuação do primeiro monge João Maria, século XIX, foi escolhido como ponto balizador para o cruzamento com a pregação e a carta paulina de Primeira Tessalonicenses. A pregação muitas vezes severa do monge, o ajuntamento de pessoas ao seu redor, bem como os milagres a ele atribuídos perturbavam a coesão social à maneira da pregação de Paulo, no século I. Como desdobramento da análise em contraste articulada com a concepção de eixos “comparáveis”, sob o prisma do antropólogo Marcel Detienne, destaca-se o fato de que as práticas desassistidas, porém autônomas, dessas comunidades, rumaram em direção a tradições confinadas dentro do próprio cristianismo. Through the rapprochement between two Christian experiences displaced in space and time, Thessalonian Christianity and the Contestado Christianity Movement, the aim of this work is to reflect on the cultural development of processes that led to the radicalization of religious experiences. Pauline Thessalonians from the middle of the 1st century and the Southern- Brazilian Contestado Movement from the twentieth century make evident in their history both a theological and practical dispute that traverses the entire history of Christianity, namely, the eschatological reflows resulting from the assimilation of apocalyptic traditions. The documents for the two contexts will be read in sharp contrast to the way Benjamin, supported by the approaches of historians Ginzburg, Koselleck and Hartog regarding the understanding of the historical time flows. Considering the influences already identified in the framework of itinerant preachers in the eschatological messianism Contestado Movement and the need for dialogical approach to the ancient Christian community of Thessalonica, a more distant time and linked to the performance of the first monk João Maria, nineteenth century, was taken as the point beacon to the junction with the preaching and the pauline letter of First Thessalonians. The often severe preaching of the monk, the gathering of people around him, as well as the miracles attributed to him disturbed the social cohesion in the manner of Paul's preaching in the first century. As an extension of the analysis articulated to the design of "comparable" axes, under the anthropologist Marcel Detienne prism, stands out the fact that the unassisted practices, however autonomous, from communities, headed towards traditions confined within Christianity itself.

Widely known as one of the main names of the ilustrated press in the nineteenth century, Agostini was an important contributor for many of the main newspapers in the second half of the 19th century, besides being the owner of a number of weekly newspapers, including the Revista Illustrada. Through the analysis of his coverage of central themes and events of that period ¿ such as the Paraguay war, the religious question, abolitionism and the question of citizenship ¿ I tried to explore the relationship between satire and politics in contemporary Brazil. Esta dissertação de mestrado procura reconstruir e interpretar uma fase da carreira do artista italiano Angelo Agostini (1843-1910) na revista ilustrada A Vida Fluminense (1868-1875), focalizando sobretudo As aventuras de Nhô-Quim. Reconhecido com um dos mais importantes artistas gráficos do século XIX, Agostini teve uma longa carreira que se inicia em São Paulo em 1864 e continua no Rio de Janeiro onde, a partir de 1867, participa também de veículos como O Arlequim, O Mosquito, e lança títulos como Don Quixote e a Revista Illustrada, o mais importante periódico da imprensa humorística da época. A Vida Fluminense é a primeira revista em que Agostini aparece como sócioproprietário e marca uma fase de transição em sua carreira, onde demonstra maturidade artística e esboça preocupações políticas que se concretizariam em sua produção futura. Também é nessa folha ilustrada que Angelo Agostini dá início à narrativa visual seqüencial As aventuras de Nhô-Quim, série em 14 episódios, publicada a partir de janeiro de 1869 e continuada por Candido Aragonez de Faria em 1872, quando então é interrompida, sem uma conclusão. O propósito desse trabalho é evidenciar como a efêmera série criada por Agostini apresenta pitorescos flagrantes de relações sociais entre os habitantes da corte e as oligarquias rurais na segunda metade do século XIX. The present work intends to reconstruct and interpret part of the career of the Italian artist Angelo Agostini and his work for the magazine A Vida Fluminense (1868-1875). Recognized as one of the greatest illustrators of the nineteen century, Agostini had a long career that started in 1864 in Sao Paulo and continues in Rio de Janeiro where after 1867, he participated also in O Arlequim, O Mosquito and after that launched magazines like Don Quixote and Revista Illustrada, the most important title of humor magazines than. A Vida Fluminense was the first magazine issued by Agostini and was a sign of the transition in his artistic career, when he reveals the maturity of his work and produces some of political charges that will be his trade mark in the future. Also in A Vida Fluminense Agostini issued As Aventuras de Nhô-Quim, a sequential art series started in January 1869 and that was continued by Candido Aragonez de Faria in 1872, when it was interrupted. The purpose of this work is to evidence how the series created by Agostini show us picturesque instants of sociability between urban citizens of Rio de Janeiro and the so called aristocratic farmers in the mid nineteen century.

2009 - 2010 La tesi, scandita in cinque capitoli, dopo un inquadramento teorico della letteratura di viaggio, che configura quest’ultimo come metafora di un percorso di conoscenza, si concentra sulle origini del mito letterario costituito dal locus patagonico. Vengono indagate le motivazioni odeporiche di Antonio Pigafetta, autore della relazione del primo viaggio intorno al mondo; le conseguenze della “deformazione” da lui operata circa le dimensioni degli abitanti del Fin del Mundo (deformazione che ha fornito suggestioni alla parola poetica di Shakespeare e al pensiero di Vico); alcune forme dell’immaginario occidentale in rapporto al tema dello Stretto e della scoperta del passaggio a sud-ovest da parte di Magellano. Una parte della tesi è dedicata a una tematica che si ritiene sin qui piuttosto trascurata nella tradizione culturale della Patagonia: la presenza (l’operosità) femminile in una regione da sempre considerata “terra per uomini”. La tesi ricostruisce alcune microstorie femminili (viaggiatrici, pioniere, bandoleras), che attraverso la contingenza del loro precario esistere, permettono il formarsi di un quadro più veritiero e articolato della macrostoria. Questa parte della tesi è completata, attraverso l’analisi dei testi letterari, da una ricostruzione del “viaggio”, doloroso e complesso, che la cautiva (donna bianca rapita dagli indios) ha dovuto vivere fra due civiltà diverse e tra loro antagoniste. La tesi si occupa, infine, di due esploratori italiani poco conosciuti ai più, ma che hanno grandemente contribuito alla conoscenza delle regioni magellaniche, delle montagne patagoniche e delle etnie fuegine: Giacomo Bove e Alberto Maria De Agostini. La Patagonia “minore” di questo studio (che ha rinunciato a “oggetti culturali” come Chatwin, come Coloane o Sepúlveda) sottolinea l’elemento del racconto presente in tutte le tipologie di viaggio e le scritture analizzate, e conferma la tesi di partenza: la Patagonia, per i suoi caratteri estremi, attiva nel viaggiatore una produzione di immagini di tipo proiettivo e di contatto profondo con la psiche. Fra le esperienze di scrittura raccolte (a parte, ovviamente, gli illustri autori del canone rioplatense presenti nel capitolo dedicato alle cautivas), viene segnalato, per dignità e compiutezza, il caso di Alberto Maria De Agostini, nella cui prosa divulgativa trapela un’intenzionalità circa la dimensione formale che appartiene di diritto alla letterarietà del testo. It happened between 1912 to 1916 and embodied a region equivalent to one third of the Santa Catarina territory and the southwest of Parana. Not only the geographic amplitude and the long period of war but it is also remarkable the involvement of some tens of thousands of people with great number of deaths. The Contestado scarred and still influences the life, culture and religiousness of the ones who survived and their descendents. This dissertation studies and explains the Contestado mystics, from a symbolic-cultural perspective and from the current reception and new significance to João Maria s words. This mystical experience and its message still lives in various expressions and religious representations of the Contestado descendents. Retrieving them, from their origins to the present days, is the path walked by this dissertation. Around the Contestado and João Maria s message, several myths, rites, symbols, sacrifices and prayers have appeared, and are still kept in the popular memory of the Contestado descendents and reinterpreted in their religious experience. After almost a century, the Contestado itself has been given a new significance in a way that the cabocla community finds in it a sense, an inspiration and a mystical experience that allow them to live in the present in a sympathetic way, with esteem and acknowledgement, facing the harsh reality in which they find themselves, trusting in better days. After a revision and bibliographical analysis, retrieving historical, geo-political, social-economical and specially cultural and religious aspects of the Contestado, the most precious information in this dissertation were borrowed, from the people s popular testimonies, who keep alive the memory of the message and the mystics of João Maria. Thus, it was possible to trail a path for retrieval and valuing of the culture and the religious and popular experience of the Contestado. O Contestado é um dos maiores movimentos populares e conflitos armados da história do Brasil. Ele aconteceu durante os anos 1912 a 1916 e abrangeu uma região que equivale à terça parte do território catarinense e o sudoeste do Paraná. Além de sua amplitude geográfica, do tempo prolongado da guerra, impressiona o fato de que o mesmo tenha envolvido diretamente algumas dezenas de milhares de pessoas e milhares de mortos. O Contestado marcou e continua ainda hoje a influenciar a vida, a cultura e a religiosidade dos que dele sobreviveram e seus descendentes. Essa dissertação estuda e explica a mística do Contestado, desde uma perspectiva simbólica-cultural e a partir da recepção e ressignificação atuais da mensagem de João Maria. Esta mística e esta mensagem sobrevivem em diversas expressões e representações religiosas dos descendentes do Contestado. Resgatá-las, desde as suas origens até os dias atuais, é o caminho percorrido por esta dissertação. Em torno do Contestado e da mensagem de João Maria surgiram diversos mitos, ritos, símbolos, sacrifícios e rezas que ainda hoje são conservados na memória popular dos descendentes do Contestado e reinterpretados em sua experiência religiosa. Depois de quase um século, o próprio Contestado já foi ressignificado de tal forma que a comunidade cabocla encontra nele um sentido, uma inspiração e uma mística que lhe permite viver no presente de maneira solidária, com estima e reconhecimento, enfrentando a dura realidade em que se encontra, confiante em dias melhores. Depois de uma revisão e análise bibliográfica, resgatando aspectos históricos, geopolíticos, sócio-econômicos e, especialmente, culturais e religiosos do Contestado, foram emprestadas as informações mais preciosas desta dissertação, contidas nos relatos de pessoas do povo, que guardam viva a memória da mensagem e da mística de João Maria. Com isso foi possível trilhar um caminho de resgate e valorização da cultura e da experiência religiosa e popular do Contestado.

Individuando nella gratuità del male, dell’azione umana, il tentativo di una mimesi perversa della gratuità divina, lo svolgimento della ricerca segue uno schema simmetrico: l’analisi dell’origine del male viene confrontata, in maniera speculare, con quella della natura del bene. Dal confronto emerge il modo in cui il gratuito ricercato dall’uomo nel male contenga un intento creativo attraverso cui rivendicare la propria libertà, sostituendosi a Dio.

Questa ricerca è un’indagine semasiologica del lessico agostiniano della provvidenza divina, costituito dalle parole-chiave prouidentia, prouideo, prouidens, prouidus, prouisio, prouisor, prouisus, e dai lessemi in relazione logico-sintattica diretta con esse. La prospettiva è sia sincronica (si considerano tutte le attestazioni delle parole-chiave presenti nel corpus agostiniano), sia diacronica: si soppesano di volta in volta analogie e differenze agostiniane rispetto agli antecedenti, nell’intento di arricchire il panorama dei possibili modelli lessicali latini (pagani, biblici, patristici) di Agostino. I dati lessicali sono stati raccolti in una banca dati appositamente costituita, selezionati secondo i criteri di frequenza e pregnanza semantica, e analizzati per nuclei tematici, coincidenti in parte con i capitoli della tesi. Si studiano dapprima i lessemi che esprimono il governo della provvidenza (le famiglie lessicali di administro, guberno e rego, e altri lessemi che designano l’azione della provvidenza); sono poi analizzati lessemi e iuncturae in cui prevale l’idea del mistero della provvidenza. Gli ultimi due capitoli sono dedicati al tema della cura divina, e a quello della cosiddetta “pedagogia divina”: attraverso i segni esteriori, la provvidenza ‘richiama’ l’uomo a rientrare in se stesso. Un’appendice approfondisce infine l’uso agostiniano di Sap 6,16 e Sap 8,1. L’apporto di Agostino al lessico filosofico latino va individuato a livello semantico più che nell’innovazione lessicale. Accanto a suffissazione, composizione, calco, la metafora svolge un ruolo essenziale nella formazione del lessico dell’Ipponate, e proviene spesso da altre lingue tecniche oppure è radicata nel patrimonio di immagini tradizionali della religione pagana. Il debito di Agostino è indubbiamente verso Cicerone, ma anche verso Seneca, per l’uso in ambito esistenziale-biografico di alcuni lessemi. Agostino li trasferisce però dal piano umano a quello divino, come nel caso del concetto di admonitio: parte integrante del programma filosofico senecano; ‘richiamo’ della provvidenza per Agostino, concetto che risente anche dell’apporto di retorica ed esegesi. The dissertation is a semasiological investigation of Augustine’s vocabulary concerning Divine Providence. It comprises both the key-words prouidentia, prouideo, prouidens, prouidus, prouisio, prouisor, prouisus and the lexemes in a direct logic-syntactic relationship to the key-words. On the one hand, the synchronic analysis considers all the key-words’ attestations within Augustine’s corpus, on the other hand, analogies and differences between Augustine and previous authors are successively evaluated from a diachronic perspective, in order to widen the spectrum of Augustine’s possible Latin models (pagans, biblical, patristic). I have created a database to record the lexical data, selecting them according to the criteria of frequency and significance, organizing them by topics, corresponding in part to the dissertation’s chapters. The first section deals with lexemes that designate the idea of the governance of Providence (the families of administro, guberno, rego and some lexemes which express the action of Providence); moreover, lexemes and iuncturae signifying Providence as a mysterious presence are investigated. The last two chapters deal with the topic of benevolence and with the so-called “divine pedagogy”: through exterior signs, Providence “calls back” the human being to his interiority. A final appendix deals with Augustine’s use of Sap 6,16 and Sap 8,1. Augustine’s contribution to Latin philosophical vocabulary takes place on the semantic level rather than the lexical. Besides suffixation, composition, and calque, metaphors play a fundamental role in the composition of Augustine’s vocabulary. Metaphors are often derived from other technical languages, or they are based on traditional images of the pagan religion. Augustine is indebted to Cicero and also to Seneca for the biographical-existential meaning of some lexemes, though Augustine transfers them from the human level to the divine level. This becomes clear, e.g., with reference to the concept of admonitio, an integral part of Seneca’s philosophical program, but the Providence’s “recall” for Augustine.

La grazia sarà sempre nel mondo e anche la natura così che essa è in certo modo naturale. E così vi saranno sempre dei pelagiani e dei cattolici, e ci sarà sempre lotta; perché la prima nascita crea gli uni e la grazia della seconda nascita crea gli altri . Anche nel nostro tempo, come in quello di Pascal, questa lotta persiste. Certo, la terminologia è mutata, i pelagiani si aggirano oggi camuffati sotto falsa identità, e ben pochi si ricordano della loro antica origine; eppure l epoca attuale celebra il loro trionfo: mai come oggi il naturalismo pelagiano è stato così vigoroso, mai come ora il cattolicesimo è parso tanto contaminato da questo veleno orrendo e occulto che corrode intimamente l autentico messaggio cristiano. Se Agostino, nel crepuscolo dell impero romano, seppe sconfiggere l eretico irlandese, definito sprezzantemente emancipatus a Deo, Pelagio si prende adesso la sua rivincita; ascoltando e osservando tanti cattolici anche autorevoli parlare e comportarsi come i più fedeli dei suoi seguaci. In verità, il sopravvento del pelagianesimo sull agostinismo ha radici lontane che datano l inizio di questo processo nel XVI secolo. In esso confluirono cause molteplici: la Riforma, la rivoluzione scientifica seicentesca, la controversia giansenista, l irrompere della modernità e della sua vocazione gnostica. A queste e ad altre insidie l universo cattolico rispondeva ripiegando su posizioni di compromesso che lasciavano campo ed iniziativa ai nemici; e crepe aperte nei bastioni della dottrina che autorizzavano l infiltrazione pelagiana nelle fila cattoliche. Così l esito della battaglia combattuta dal vescovo d Ippona contro Pelagio ma anche contro la sua stessa teologia anteriore di impostazione origeniana veniva ribaltato: il monaco irlandese, dopo oltre un millennio, si impone sul dottore africano, nonostante nessuno tra i suoi odierni eredi sia disposto a riconoscerlo apertamente come suo maestro spirituale. Il proton pseudos del cristianesimo deve essere identificato nell opzione - sempre implicita della Chiesa di attenuare il dogma supremo della dottrina cattolica: il peccato originale; onde venire incontro alle istanze di una società sempre più secolarizzata che esalta quei valori umanistici che mal si conciliano con la rappresentazione cattolica di uno stato decaduto dell umanità. Il tentativo, miope quanto velleitario, di armonizzare cristianesimo e modernità, mediante l adeguamento della dottrina cattolica allo principi del Secolo, comportava fatalmente la tacita rimozione persino dell agostinismo moderato (patrimonio del cattolicesimo fin dal Concilio di Orange) a favore del molinismo. Con l adozione surrettizia della teologia del gesuita spagnolo la Chiesa riapre le porte, o meglio, le finestre, all eresia pelagiana; da qui all egemonia modernista nel mondo cattolico e alla dhimmitudine del pensiero cristiano nei riguardi della cultura laicista il passo è breve.

L’opera riprende letteralmente buona parte del De civitate Dei (in particolare i primi 10 libri) e altre opere dell’Ipponate ed è tràdita in due manoscritti: il Codex Valentianus 253 (ex 178) (V) conservato nella Biblioteca della Cattedrale di Valencia e il Codice Rawlinson A368 della Bodleian Library di Oxford. Quest’ultimo tramanda anche un altro trattato anonimo, intitolato Excerpta ex libris beati Augustini infidelitati Judaeorum obviantia. Diversi aspetti accomunano queste opere e inducono ad ipotizzare la stessa paternità. Alcune parti del testo non trovano riscontro in opere note e non è chiaro se siano aggiunte originali del compilatore o riprese di opere non pervenute. In particolare, brevi estratti della disputatio secunda corrispondono al testo della Vulgata della Passio Sanctae Katharinae Alexandriniensis e, in un caso, anche a quello delle Consultationes Zacchei Christiani et Apollonii Philosophi. An example of the reception of Augustine's City of God: the anonymous work Contra philosophos The luck of the City of God of Augustine and his considerable influence in the early Middle Ages are one of the greatest expressions in anonymous Altercationes Philosophiae Christianae erroneas et contra seductiles paganorum philosophorum versutias, a dialogue between Augustine and 15 representatives of pagan thought. The work literally takes up a good part of the City of God (in particular the first 10 books) and other works of Augustine and it is transmitted in two manuscripts: the Codex Valentianus 253 (ex 178) (V) preserved in the Library of the Cathedral of Valencia and the Rawlinson A 368 Code of the Bodleian Library in Oxford. The latter also handed down another anonymous treatise, entitled Excerpta ex libris blessed Augustini infidelitati Judaeorum obviantia. Para considerar o livre-arbítrio da vontade, Agostinho deve mobilizar concepções já estabelecidas sobre a natureza divina, sobre a natureza do mal e também sobre a natureza da alma humana. À medida que tais concepções se modificam, o livre-arbítrio da vontade assume contornos diversos até obter sua forma mais acabada, na qual se revela como raiz do mal moral sem nada referir à autoria divina e na qual se revela também como essencialmente viciado sem ter outra alternativa senão a de aceitar a ajuda divina. Assim, se de um lado o livre-arbítrio da vontade não exige relacionar Deus com a causa do mal, de outro lado exige relacionar Deus com a única forma de corrigir o mal. Nosso trabalho tem o objetivo de analisar as tramas conceituais supostas na concepção de livre-arbítrio, vendo nesta uma chave de leitura com força de evidenciar certa lógica interna no movimento envolvendo a conversão de Agostinho ao cristianismo. In order to consider the free choice of the will, Augustine has to mobilize concepts already established about the divine nature, the nature of evil and also the nature of the human soul. As such concepts change, the free choice of the will takes on different features until it reaches its most defined form, in which it is revealed as the origin of moral evil without reference to the divine authorship and in which it is also revealed as essentially vicious without any alternative but to accept divine aid. Therefore, if on the one hand the free choice of the will does not entail a relationship between God and the cause of evil, on the other hand it requires the relationship between God and the only way to stop evil. The objective of this work is to analyse the conceptual webs entailed in the concept of free choice, viewing it as a reading key capable of evidencing a certain internal logic in the movement involving Augustine\'s conversion to Christianity.

Tal tema pode ser dividido em duas partes. Primeiramente, o que chamamos de conhecimento (scientia), o qual trata do conhecimento das coisas temporais e permite que o homem viva a vida prática. Em segundo lugar, temos a sabedoria (sapientia), que o é conhecimento das coisas eternas e permite que o homem alcance a felicidade (eudaimonia). Na primeira parte, isto é, sobre o conhecimento, analisaremos o processo de obtenção das imagens sensíveis (phantasma). Este processo começa nos objetos do mundo sensível, os quais afetam os sentidos exteriores do homem, e assim, geram a sensação ou imagem sensível do mundo. Destacaremos a importância da alma na sensação, ou seja, seu papel ativo. Dentro da tradição cristã, a alma tem a função de manter a pessoa viva. Como a pessoa é uma unidade de corpo e alma, esta deve estar atenta aos sinais dados pelo corpo e gerar as sensações, sempre com o objetivo de manter o corpo vivo, para que a pessoa continue a existir. Também veremos que essas sensações e imagens sensíveis ficam armazenadas na memória sensível. Na segunda parte do trabalho, isto é, sobre a sabedoria, estudaremos em detalhe as definições de verdade de Agostinho, seu tratamento dos primeiros princípios e razões dos números como conteúdos próprios da sapientia. Além disso, veremos o que é a iluminação para o Hiponense. Também demonstraremos que os conhecimentos obtidos por meio da sabedoria são universais e necessários, e ficam armazenados na memória intelectiva. Como conclusão, defenderemos que a iluminação é o ponto mais crucial para que o homem obtenha o conhecimento, seja ele das coisas temporais ou das coisas eternas. No momento em que o homem obtém o conhecimento através da scientia, veremos que precisa de uma luz natural para ver os objetos e ter as sensações e imagens sensíveis. Quando o homem descobre os conhecimentos necessários acerca das coisas eternas (sapientia), ele o faz por meio de uma iluminação espiritual de um tipo especial. In this dissertation we propose to talk about the theory of knowledge in Augustine. Such a theme can be divided into two parts. First, what we call knowledge (scientia), which deals with the knowledge of temporal things and allows man to live the practical life. Secondly, what we call wisdom (sapientia), which is the knowledge of eternal things and allows man to attain happiness (eudaimonia). In the first part, about the knowledge, we will analyze the process of obtaining sensitive images (phantasma). This process begins with the objects from the sensible world, which affect the outer senses of man, and thus, generate the sensation or sensible image of the world. We will emphasize the importance of the soul in sensation, id est, its active role. Within the Christian tradition, the soul has the function of keeping a person alive. As a person is the unity of her body and soul, the latter must be attentive to the signs given by the body and generate the sensations, always with the purpose of keeping the body alive, so that the person continues to exist. We will also see that these sensations and sensitive images are stored in the sensitive memory. In the second part of the work, that is, on wisdom, we will study in detail the definitions of the truth Augustine gives, his treatment of the first principles and the reasons (ratio) of the numbers as proper contents of sapientia. In addition, we will see what llumination is for the Bishop of Hippo. We will demonstrate that the knowledge obtained through wisdom is universal and necessary, and is stored in the intellectual memory. As a conclusion, we will argue that Illumination is the most important thing for men to obtain knowledge, whether it be of temporal or of eternal things. In the moment that men obtain the knowledge through the scientia, we will see that they need a natural light to see the objects and to have sensations or sensitive images. When men discover the necessary knowledge about eternal things (sapientia), it happens by means of a spiritual illumination of a special type.

Assim, a pesquisa enfocou o processo de construção das suas principais concepções políticas e culturais, demonstrando que a concomitância da sua vivência e a similaridade das suas trajetórias, mesmo que alicerçadas em contextos e experiências diversas, geraram interpretações opostas ao discurso hegemônico colonial, ainda que partissem de temáticas semelhantes. Tal investigação interpretou as afinidades, particularidades e distinções existentes entre eles, e deles com relação a outros intelectuais pertencentes às suas respectivas gerações, demonstrando como os contextos em que cada um atuou, embora substancialmente díspares, também dialogaram entre si. O trabalho fornece subsídios para as reflexões sobre o processo de recuperação dessas ideias no presente. The research analyzed the exchange between angolan, portuguese and brazilian intellectuals and institutions in the period between 1944 and 1961, evaluating their conditions, exchanges and reciprocal influences, through the study of the trajectories of the leading intellectuals: Agostinho Neto, an important poet of Generation of the Mensagem, migrated from Angola to Portugal in 1947 to study medicine in Coimbra and became involved in the political activities of the House of Students of the Empire in Lisbon, through which he played a decisive role in the anticolonial struggle, becoming the first president of Angola Republic in 1975; Agostinho da Silva, a portuguese intellectual who exiled himself in Brazil in 1944 because of the political persecutions of salazarism, acted in different cultural and academic institutions in this country, being responsible for the re-inauguration of the brazilian institutional relations with the african countries throught the creation and direction of the Center of Afro-Oriental Studies in the late 1950s. Thus, the research focused on the process of construction of their main political and cultural conceptions, demonstrating that the concomitance of its experience and the similarity of their trajectories, even if based on diverse contexts and experiences, generated interpretations opposite to the colonial hegemonic discourse, although they left from similar subjects. Such an investigation interpreted the affinities, particularities, and distinctions between them, and of them in relation to other intellectuals belonging to their respective generations, demonstrating how the contexts in which each acted, although substantially disparate, also dialogued among themselves. The thesis provides insights into the process of retrieving these ideas in the present.

Il dogma canonico del “Dio uno e trino”, formalizzato per la prima volta nei Concili di Nicea (325), corrisponde al principio neoplatonico della consustanzialità, che S. Agostino elaborò soprattutto nel lavoro in quindici tomi del De trinitatis. Priva di qualsiasi riscontro scritturale e negata, nella sua versione canonica, da altri Padri della Chiesa, la Trinità fu oggetto, nel XVI secolo, degli studi filologici dello spagnolo Miguel de Servet, che individuò nel dogma il grande “errore” della cristianità. Sulla scia dell'ondata riformistica del Protestantesimo, ma in contrasto con la posizione ortodossa sulla Trinità che Lutero, monaco agostiniano, impose sin dal principio alla sua dottrina, l'Antitrinitarismo divenne un tema ricorrente e trasversale nella galassia di posizioni religiose intermedie esistenti nell'opposizione tra il mondo cristiano e quello protestante. A partire dall'idea della storia come un' “interfaccia”, sempre in bilico tra una realtà complessa e la virtualità dell'osservazione, e costruita attraverso un approccio interdisciplinare, questa tesi propone infine una lettura iconografica della Gloria di Tiziano (1551-54), dipinto per Carlo V ed ora conservato al Museo del Prado di Madrid. L'identificazione nel dipinto di due celebri antitrinitaristi e la ricostruzione dei nessi storici e logici di tali presenze nel contesto teologico e politico dell'epoca, negano l'interpretazione corrente del dipinto come manifesto dell'ortodossia asburgica, e fanno luce, per riflesso, sui pregiudizi esistenti negli studi storici sull'Antitrinitarismo in Italia nel XVI secolo.

Abstract:

Questo lavoro intende studiare la letteratura di formazione e in particolare alcune sue peculiaritá tramite due suoi esemplari del Novecento. Nella prima parte della tesi si esaminano le caratteristiche della letteratura di formazione basandosi sulla fondamentale monografia di Franco Moretti, Il romanzo di formazione. Nella seconda parte, a partire dalle caratteristiche e dagli elementi principali del bildungsroman già evidenziati, si presenta un confronto tra due romanzi novecenteschi: Agostino di Alberto Moravia e Le ceneri di Angela di Frank McCourt. Ne vengono evidenziate le differenze e le somiglianze, dovute alle differenze culturali, allo sfondo storico, all’ambiente familiare dei protagonisti e più in generale alle differenze della narrativa moraviana e di McCourt. Emerge così la poliedricitá e allo stesso tempo l'universalità di questo genere letterario particolare, in grado di essere presente in periodi storici anche molto distanti fra loro. Nell’ultimo capitolo si analizzano le trasposizioni cinematografiche dei due romanzi, così da offrire delle riflessioni sui motivi che rendono questo genere così apprezzato dal mondo cinematografico.

Abstract:

One of the most important concepts in Augustine’s philosophy of creation is surely that of matter. Nevertheless, a monographic study specifically dedicated to the concept of matter has not yet been published. Purpose of the thesis is at least partially to fill this gap, considering all the text of the commentaries on Genesis (De Genesi contra Manichaeos, De Genesi ad litteram imperfectus, Confessiones (XI-XIII), De Genesi ad litteram) in which Augustine employs the Latin terms “materia” and “materies”. These texts have been translated and analyzed from a lexical and an historical-philosophical point of view. A wide section is also devoted do the study of the employment of the concept of matter in the philosophical and patristic tradition. The thesis deals with the main exegetical, ontological, epistemological and ethical issues related to Augustine’s conception of matter. What emerges from this study is that Augustine draws up a consistent theory of matter. He deepens and constantly specifies his doctrine, in which the theoretical elements derived from the philosophical tradition are originally combined. Il concetto di materia occupa una posizione centrale nell’ambito del pensiero di Agostino. Ciononostante, ad oggi non esiste ancora uno studio monografico specificamente dedicato a tale nozione. La tesi intende colmare almeno in parte questa lacuna, prendendo in esame i testi dei commentari agostiniani alla Genesi (De Genesi contra Manichaeos, De Genesi ad litteram imperfectus, Confessiones (XI-XIII), De Genesi ad litteram) in cui compaiono le occorrenze dei termini latini “materia” e “materies” (un terzo delle circa 400 occorrenze presenti nel corpus Augustinianum). Tali testi sono stati tradotti e fatti oggetto di un’analisi lessicale e storico-filosofica, nella quale confluiscono i risultati emersi nell’ampia sezione iniziale dedicata allo studio dell’impiego del concetto di materia nella tradizione filosofica e patristica. Nel corso di quest’analisi sono state prese in esame e discusse le principali questioni di ordine esegetico, ontologico, epistemologico ed etico connesse all’impiego agostiniano del concetto di materia. Da questo studio emerge come Agostino elabori una concezione coerente della materia, frutto di un progressivo e costante approfondimento e di una rielaborazione originale degli elementi concettuali desunti dalla tradizione filosofica.

2013 - 2014 Since the end of the 19th century, the history of Augustinian historiography has been characterized by numerous and varying attempts to find breaking points in Augustine’s philosophy and life, as well as strong interests about his intellectual development. The analyses of Augustine’s writings against the Pelagians, with an emphasis on methodology refutation, is an efficient interpretative key of Augustine’s intellectual and philosophical development. This thesis is divided into two chapters, both dedicated to the analysis of Augustine’s writings against the Pelagians, and also containing a short appendix in which consideration is given to the sermons delivered by Augustine in the early stages of the anti-Pelagian controversy. In the first chapter, De peccatorum meritis et remission et de baptismo parvulorum, written in order to refute the theories sustained by Pelagians and condemned by the Council of Carthage in 411, is analyzed. De spiritu et littera is then analyzed, explaining Augustine’s perspective that the impeccantia is possible only by the implementation of Christ. The analysis of De natura et grazia follows, in which Augustine asserts, in agreement with what Pelagius wrote in his De natura, stating that human nature is good, but emphasizes that it is in need of God’s grace in order to desire and act well and according to God’s will. The analysis continues with De perfectione iustitiae hominis, composed to refute the Definitiones ut dicitur Celestii, a book in which Celestius proposes sixteen arguments in order to show that humans have the ability and must live without sin. De gestis Pelagii is then analyzed, a book in which Augustine examines and assesses the orthodoxy of Pelagius’ defense, given during the Synod of Diospolis. The first chapter is concluded with the analysis of De gratia Christi et de peccato originali, where the important topics involved in the controversy against the Pelagians are summarized. In the second chapter De nuptiis et concupiscentia is analyzed, a book in which Augustine distinguishes the evil of the concupiscence from the goodness of marriage. The analysis of Contra duas epistolas Pelagianorum follows, written to refute two Pelagian letters that circulated in Rome as propaganda. In conclusion, Contra Iulianum and Contra secundam Iuliani responsionem, Opus imperfectum are analyzed; they were composed to respectively disprove Ad Turbantium and Ad Florum of Julian of Eclano, where Augustine’s doctrine of original sin is accused as Manichean. In the appendix, Augustine’s Sermones are analyzed; it is probable that these sermons against the rising Pelagian heresy were given before 411 or, in any case, before its official intervention in the Pelagian controversy. This thesis shows that despite the undeniable evolution of Augustine’s thoughts, which forced him to redefine some of his theological positions, the methodology outlined in Dialogues and adopted since his conversion to Christianity is not disqualified. According to that methodology, philosophical speculation must be triggered by God’s calling and conducted by preceding faith to reason. [edited by Author] XIII n.s.

IV-V d.C.). Examinamos, nesse sentido, o tratado gramatical atribuído ao bispo de Hipona intitulado Ars pro fratrum mediocritate breuiata, em relação aos aspectos formais e conceituais do gênero gramatical das artes, que foi produzido na Antiguidade Tardia, tendo como contraponto, principalmente, as Artes grammaticae de Donato (séc. IV d.C.). Para exame da matéria gramatical contida no texto agostiniano, consideramos também os textos filosóficos de autoria de Santo Agostinho, i.e., o De magistro, o De ordine e o De doctrina Christiana, mostrando como as reflexões propriamente gramaticais presentes na Ars breuiata também aparecem refletidas nesses textos. Dessa forma, ensejamos mostrar que a metalinguagem gramatical que caracterizou o gênero das artes grammaticae latinas, com Agostinho, foi disseminada, paulatinamente, em textos de teor filosófico, no sentido de preparar e fornecer aos “alunos/cristãos” uma ferramenta importante para a leitura e exegese bíblica. Como conclusão, percebemos que as fronteiras que delimitavam os ensinamentos, no que diz respeito às artes liberais (o chamado trivium – gramática, dialética e retórica) não estavam, desse modo, totalmente dissociadas, na obra de Agostinho, mas faziam parte de uma formação propedêutica com fins específicos para a divulgação da doutrina cristã. Os pressupostos teóricos e metodológicos que utilizamos para a compilação do nosso trabalho são oriundos da Historiografia da Linguística. This work offers a reflection on the grammatical thought by St. Augustine (c. IV-V A.D.). We examine, in this sense, the grammatical treatise attributed to the bishop of Hippo, entitled Ars pro fratrum mediocritate breuiata, in relation to formal and conceptual aspects of the grammatical gender of the artes, which has been produced in Late Antiquity, with reference to the Artes grammaticae by Donatus (c. IV AD). In order to examine the grammatical substance from the Augustinian text, we have also considered some other aspects codified in Augustine’s philosophical texts, such as De magistro, De ordine and De doctrina Christiana, highlighting the way how properly grammatical concepts is in these works also reflected. Thus, we intend to show that the grammatical metalanguage that characterized the genre of Latin Artes grammaticae, with Augustine, has been disseminated gradually in his texts of philosophical content, as a strategy to prepare and provide his "students / Christians" with an important tool for reading and making biblical exegesis. In conclusion, we realize that the boundaries which surrounded the teachings in regard to the Liberal Arts (the so-called Trivium – grammar, dialectic and rhetoric) has not been thereby completely dissociated, in the work of Augustine, but were part of a project to disseminate Christian doctrine. The theoretical and methodological assumptions used for the compilation of our work are from the Historiography of Linguistics.

We begin our journey by the very proposal that moves the bishop of Hippo, that is, the attempt to understand the problem of evil in a metaphysical-ontological perspective: "What is the origin of evil?" Or "why are we evil?" A long and arduous journey that will culminate in the ethicalmoral issue, or moral evil. We start from the life of this thinker trying to show his cultural, academic, familiar and religious formation and that influenced him in this way. The biographical part is a presupposition to construct its passages by the philosophy, Manichaeism and Christianity. He reads Cicero and feels impelled to seek Wisdom and Truth, approaches Manichaeism by answering the metaphysicalontological problem of evil, breaks with the Manichaeans, and constructs a new interpretation for the problem of ontological evil with ethical-moral implications with the support and influence of the Neoplatonic philosophy and the theologians of Milan. From then on, the whole construction is to show that man needs to live well, but for this he must have a life based on the right divine order. All that God created is good, but evil, the sin of the first man who transgressed the right divine order, broke with the hierarchy of this right divine order. In this way, the Beatitude of man can only be found in God and for this he must be healed of sin by divine grace. Only when this happens that man can live according to the hierarchy of the right divine order, even though he still lives within a temporal world, he passes on to understand and practice love as the foundation of his ethical-moral. This love is not simply to love anyway, but it is to love according to what God Himself has established. There is a hierarchy established by the divine and the ethical-moral living of man must be governed by this principle. Love is the foundation of ethical-moral in Augustine. A dissertação pesquisa o ético-moral em Santo Agostinho e como ele desenvolve a sua teoria a partir dos temas que o desafiaram. Iniciamos nosso percurso pela própria proposta que movimenta o bispo de Hipona, isto é, a tentativa de entender o problema do mal numa perspectiva metafísico-ontológico: “qual a origem do mal?” ou “por que somos maus?”. Um árduo e longo percurso que vai culminar na questão ético-moral, ou o mal moral. Partimos da vida deste pensador procurando mostrar sua formação cultural, acadêmica, familiar e religiosa e que o influenciaram neste caminho. A parte biográfica é um pressuposto para construirmos as suas passagens pela filosofia, maniqueísmo e cristianismo. Ele lê Cícero e se sente impulsionado em buscar a Sabedoria e a Verdade, aproxima-se do maniqueísmo pela resposta ao problema metafísico-ontológico do mal, rompe com os maniqueístas e constrói uma nova interpretação para o problema do mal ontológico com implicações ético-moral com a ajuda e influência da filosofia neoplatônica e dos teólogos de Milão. A partir de então, toda a construção é para mostrar que o homem precisa bem viver, mas para isto precisa ter uma vida pautada na reta ordem divina. Tudo que Deus criou é bom, mas o mal, o pecado do primeiro homem que transgrediu a reta ordem divina, rompeu com a hierarquia desta reta ordem divina. Dessa forma, a Beatitude do homem só pode ser encontrada em Deus e para isto ele precisa ser curado do pecado pela graça divina. Somente quando isto acontece que o homem pode viver segundo a hierarquia da reta ordem divina, mesmo que ele ainda viva dentro de um mundo temporal, ele passa a entender e praticar o amor como fundamento do seu ético-moral. Este amor não é simplesmente amar de qualquer forma, mas é amar segundo o que o próprio Deus estabeleceu. Há uma hierarquia estabelecida pelo divino e o viver ético-moral do homem precisa estar regido neste princípio. O amor é o fundamento do ético-moral em Agostinho.

Notwithstanding, since this interdependence is not categorically shown in Augustine´s Contra Academicos, but only in another work of his, called De Beata Vita, it was necessary, through the collection of historical data linked to Augustine and his time, to establish a connection between these two dialogues, in order to show the plausibility of the idea according to which the interdependence between Truth and happiness, exposed in Augustine´s De Beata Vita, is defended in Augustine´s Contra Academicos. In order to achieve this objective, the work was disposed in the following manner: collection of historical and psychological data, exposed in the Introduction; study of Augustine´s Contra Academicos, in three chapters (these chapters form the first book of this dissertation); study of Augustine´s De Beata Vita and Conclusion, both of them also exposed in three chapters (these chapters form the second book of this dissertation). In the Conclusion (inserted in the third chapter of Book II), we have finished the study of Augustine´s De Beata Vita and the justification of the hypothesis of our dissertation. In the Conclusion, the information collected in the Introduction is employed in order to show the plausibility of our hypothesis O objetivo desta dissertação é mostrar a plausibilidade da hipótese segundo a qual, no Contra Academicos, de Agostinho, é defendida a relação de interdependência entre Verdade e felicidade. Todavia, uma vez que essa relação não se apresenta categoricamente exposta no Contra Academicos, mas sim no De Beata Vita, foi necessário, mediante o levantamento de dados históricos ligados à pessoa e à época de Agostinho, estabelecer conexão entre os dois diálogos, de maneira a tornar plausível a idéia de que no Contra Acadêmicos se defende tese exposta no De Beata Vita. O que causa o deslocamento da vontade? A resposta pode ser dividida em três partes, que correspondem às três fases da vida do Bispo de Hipona. Num primeiro momento, a vontade é soberana para decidir qual o sentido a ser tomado, independentemente do que é mostrado pela razão como sendo o certo e o errado. Assim, para que a vontade se dirija para os bens eternos, é necessário ser um cristão erudito. Posteriormente, Agostinho defende que a vontade se torna enfraquecida pela influência do mau hábito (consuetudo), que nasce do pecado. A origem desse pecado encontra-se no deleite das lembranças da memória. Por último, a vontade é considerada como sendo impotente para cumprir a vontade de Deus. Assim, é necessária a atuação da Graça para preparar e capacitar a vontade, para que esta seja efetiva no deslocamento para o Eterno. __________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT Augustine classifies the will as an intermediate good that can move itself as much toward inferior goods as to superior ones. What cause the moving of the will? The answer can be divided in three parts, which correspond to the three phases of the bishop of Hippo’s life. First, the will is free to decide any direction, regardless of what is right or wrong according to the reason. In this way, it is necessary to be a learned Christian in order that the will be able to move to the superior goods. After that, Augustine maintains that the will becomes weaker by the influence of bad habit (consuetudo), which originates from the sin. The origin of this sin is situated in the delight of the recollections of the memory. Finally, our will is regarded as incompetent to carry out the will of God. Therefore, the divine Grace is necessary in order to prepare the human will for the direction of the Eternal.

Gli autori da me considerati presentano un’idea di che cosa sia l’interiorità umana e quali siano le sue principali caratteristiche; descrivono come il senso religioso, differenziandosi da un semplice e cieco sentimento umano, necessiti sempre di una nozione del divino nell’uomo, in quanto si presenta come tensione all’infinito. In secondo luogo la centralità antropologica del senso religioso mette in evidenza lo stretto legame che intercorre tra questo e la filosofia, da sempre impegnata nella ricerca del senso, e quindi del fine, dell’esistenza umana. L’esistenza della nostra interiorità oggettiva non viene dimostrata solo attraverso ciò che ci circonda, ma anche e specialmente partendo da un’analisi dell’essenza dell’uomo e della sua condizione esistenziale. Esiste pertanto una dimensione spirituale e profonda intrinseca alla natura umana che ha la capacità di aprire ciascuno uomo ad un orizzonte trascendentale; questa dimensione permette all’individuo di comprendere se stesso come essere finito che fa parte di un infinito: e questo è un bene di cui l’uomo può fruirne liberamente in quanto da sempre presente in lui e unico nel suo genere, dal momento che è il solo capace di appagarlo in modo autentico.

L'elaborato mira a sondare il tema dell'ipotesi di un'etica originaria così come è affrontata nel corpus dei testi di Heidegger, in particolare "Essere e tempo". Le parole dello stesso Heidegger nella "Lettera sull’«umanismo»" sono chiare: egli non scriverà mai un'etica, ma allo stesso tempo il problema, comunque secondario rispetto alla questione ontologica perché da esso dipende, non può non essere posto. L'idea di una morale è ovviamente rigettata, quella dell'individuazione di un'etica originaria è lasciata invece aperta. Il testo si divide in tre parti. L'ambito della prima è il rapporto fra Heidegger e Agostino, in particolare vengono trattati l'interesse del filosofo tedesco per le riflessioni sul tempo e sull'interiorità dell'Ipponate. Nella seconda viene analizzata l'eredità della filosofia pratica aristotelica nella formulazione di alcuni concetti dell'analitica esistenziale di "Essere e tempo". Nella terza invece a essere sotto esame sono le riflessioni conclusive (post-Kehre) che Heidegger trae sul linguaggio, sull'abitare dell'uomo e sulla poesia, tenendo sì saldo il primato della questione dell'essere, ma nella nuova luce che gli ha fornito la lettura di Hölderlin.

In this context, this study aimed to characterize and classify agricultural soils through morphological, physical and chemical analyzes using the Ethnopedological studies and infer about the methods and their importance to the agricultural production of the Settlement Project Santa Agostinha, Caraúbas, RN. The five units defined for the study were: 1) cashew; 2) capineira; 3) consortium; 4) and agroforestry; 5) preserved forest (reference). Participatory workshops were held, emicista exchanges and classification and ethicist and analysis of morphological attributes, physical and chemical soil in the units studied in layers 0.0-0.10; 0.10-0.20; 0.20-0.30 m their diagnostic profiles. The samples were sent to the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid for processing thin dry land to air (TFSA) and subsequent analysis of the physical and chemical properties. Was used to interpret the results multivariate statistics. The results of the ethicist rating based on the interpretation of the analyzed attributes were as follows, according to the units: Neosol Quartzarenic and Neosol Regolitic showed a close relationship with emicista rating. The consortium agricultural unit had physical limitations, when the drainage, waterproof layer, which favors the accumulation of water in subsurface stimulating agricultural production in other units as the chemical solódico character, masked fertility. The experiences of the peasants in participatory workshops and exchanges provided exchange of popular and scientific knowledge, as well as new prospects for coexistence with the semiarid region No Brasil, pesquisas realizadas para fins de classificação e caracterização do solo que levam em conta o conhecimento da comunidade local ainda são escassos, talvez essa condição seja explicada pelos desafios da abordagem etnopedológica em que os fatores antropológicos dialogam como esse modo de compreender os espaços de produção e reprodução da vida. Neste contexto, este estudo se propôs a caracterizar e classificar os solos na paisagem utilizando os estudos Etnopedológicos e inferir sobre os métodos e sua importância para a produção agrícola do Projeto de Assentamento Santa Agostinha, Caraúbas, RN. As cinco áreas definidas para o estudo na relação solo paisagem foram: 1) cajueiro; 2) capineira; 3) consórcio; 4) agrofloresta e; 5) mata preservada (referência). Foram realizadas oficinas participativas, intercâmbios e classificação emicista e eticista e análise dos atributos morfológicos, físicos e químicos do solo nas áreas em estudo nas camadas 0,0-0,10; 0,10- 0,20; 0,20-0,30 m e em seus respectivos perfis diagnósticos. As amostras foram encaminhadas a Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido para o beneficiamento em terra fina seca ao ar (TFSA) e posterior análises dos atributos físicos e químicos. Os resultados da classificação eticista com base na interpretação dos atributos analisados foram as seguintes, conforme as áreas de estudo: NEOSSOLO quartzarênico Latossólico (cajueiro); NEOSSOLO Regolítico eutrófico (capineira); NEOSSOLO Quartzarênico Órtico fragipânico (consórcio); NEOSSOLO Quartzarênico órtico típico (agrofloresta); e NEOSSOLO Quartzarênico hidromórfico típico apresentou nos horizontes diagnósticos estreita relação com classificação emicista. A área agrícola do consórcio apresentou limitação física, quando a drenagem (fragipã), camada impermeável, o que favoreceu o acúmulo de água em subsuperfície estimulando a produção agrícola. Nas demais áreas quanto à química o caráter solódico, mascarou a fertilidade, mesmo com as restrições apresentadas, o manejo adotado pelos camponeses contribui para melhoria da capacidade produtiva do solo, em função da diversidade de plantas e cobertura da superfície. As experiências vivenciadas pelos campesinos nas oficinas participativas e intercâmbios entre assentamentos proporcionaram troca de saberes popular e científico, bem como, novas perspectivas de convivência com o semiárido

Logo, sua filosofia Ã permeada pela ideia do amor ao prÃximo, um elemento essencial da moral cristÃ. Assim, serÃ realizada uma anÃlise do amor e sua relaÃÃo com a Ãtica em Santo Agostinho. Paratanto, sÃo abordadas primeiramente as manifestaÃÃes mais fundamentais do amor no Ãmbito antropolÃgico. Ã, pois, partindo da essÃncia humana que serÃ iniciado o itinerÃrio do amor em Agostinho. Em seguida, serÃ realizado o estudo da noÃÃo de ordem natural e como ela, de fato, pode ser entendida como ordo amoris. E o amor ocupa um lugar central nessa ordem. HÃ um modo ordenado de agir e amar para conduzir o homem ao bem viver. Ã a partir do estudo da ordem que serÃ trabalhada a reflexÃo Ãtica de Agostinho. O convÃvio social e interpessoal coloca os homens em contato concreto e nÃo Ã possÃvel vivenciar a ordem perfeitÃssima sem saber como e o que amar. A Ãtica do amor estabelece critÃrios para que aqueles que se encontram em situaÃÃo mais delicada - privados dos bens necessÃrios Ã vida - possam receber com prioridade o amor que se transforma em justiÃa social. Portanto, o amor que emerge do interior do homem o leva nÃo apenas a amar o prÃximo como a si mesmo, mas o impele a buscar a paz e a igualdade social.

Soberba e humildade em Agostinho são analisadas neste trabalho por meio de uma inter-relação entre os métodos anagógico/Pátria-Via e o Trinitário, métodos que, segundo cremos, foram utilizados por Agostinho. A aplicação deste método nos levará a notar que soberba e humildade só podem ser entendidas uma à luz da outra, porque possuem uma estrutura simetricamente proporcional: a soberba é a enfermidade radical da condição humana, e a humildade o seu remédio adequado. Assim, a soberba, no nível do ser, corresponde a uma usurpação, uma pretensão de roubar o que é próprio de Deus, a autonomia e independência no ser; no nível do conhecimento, consiste numa presunção de valer por si mesmo, o que leva a um movimento de afastamento da verdade interior, tornando o homem cego no mais profundo de sua alma; e finalmente, no nível do querer, corresponde a uma injustiça, pois consiste na causa do primeiro mau uso do livre-arbítrio, que levou ao rompimento da ordem estabelecida por Deus na lei eterna. A humildade, em simetria invertida, corresponde, no nível do ser, a um aniquilamento voluntário, pelo qual o Cristo abaixa-se de sua natureza igual a Deus, assumindo uma natureza que lhe é inferior, a natureza humana; no nível do conhecimento, se entende como confissão a respeito da verdade sobre Deus e sobre o próprio homem, da sua condição de criatura e pecador; e finalmente, no nível do querer, como o caminho pelo qual o Cristo, por meio de sua livre obediência até a morte de cruz e posterior ressurreição, restabelece a justiça perdida na primeira desobediência à lei eterna. Pride and humility in Augustine are analyzed in this work through an inter-relationship between the anagogical/homeland-Way (Patria-Via) and Trinitarian methods, which we believe were used by Augustine. Applying this method will lead us to note that pride and humility can only be understood in the light of one another, because they have a symmetrically proportional structure: pride is the radical disease of the human condition, and humility its adequate remedy. Thus, the pride, in the level of being, represents an usurpation, a desire to steal what is proper to God, the autonomy and independence in being; in the level of knowledge, is a presumption of worth by himself/herself, which leads a movement away from inner truth, making the man blind in the depths of his soul; and finally, at the level of wanting, corresponds to an injustice because it is the cause of the first misuse of free will, which led to the breakup of the order established by God in the eternal law. Humility, in inverted symmetry, corresponds, at the level of being, to a voluntary destruction, by which Christ stoops of his nature equal with Gods, taking a nature that is lower, the human nature; in the level of knowledge, it is understood as a confession regarding the truth about God and man himself, of his condition of sinful creature; and finally, at the level of wanting, as the path by which Christ, through his free obedience unto death on a cross and subsequent resurrection, restores justice lost in the first disobedience to the eternal law.

Both interiority and knowledge represent the key-pieces of Augustin thought and they bring an enigma which we ll be busy in understanding. It refers to the apparently antagonistic form to conciliate the human activity of the knowledge through the cogito of Augustin with the theory of the divine illumination. I, I, 1). It was possible to verify, then, that the Bishop of Hippo, entirely submissive to Christian faith and under great influence of the eudemonistic Greeck tradition, developed a practica, fundamentally ethical and moral philosophy, which, by exalting virtue and disengaging from merely temporal values, sought happiness in what was not perishable. For all that is subject to time may have its nature corrupted by the evil, which, in his comprehension, is the lack or distortion of what is good. Acknowledging then that only God is eternal and not subject to time, and that He could not be lost or modified, Augustine inferred that seeking happiness was, inevitably, seeking God. However, he knew that men could not reach God by their own effort, given that He is infinite. So, some divine helpe becomes necessary: grace. At this point, Augustine separated from the Greek, as he substituted human knowledge whith divine knowledge. Thus, without abandoning intelligible comprehensio, necessary for recognizing what coud be called beata vita, he tries, through conscience experience and auto comprehension, to find spiritual plenitude, in which would be perfect Truth and true freedom, without which living true happiness would be impossible. Foi a partir do pequeno texto de Santo Agostinho, intitulado De Beata Vita, obra escrita em um retiro cultural no ano de 388 d.C., que o presente trabalho procurou compreender as razões que levam a humanidade, em uma atitude universal, a buscar a vida feliz, bem como entender os caminhos propostos por Agostinho para alcançar este que é, segundo ele mesmo, o único propósito para o qual se pensa filosoficamente (Conf. I, I, 1). Verificou-se, então, que o Bispo de Hipona, inteiramente submisso à fé cristã e sob forte influência da tradição grega eudemonista, desenvolveu uma filosofia prática, fundamentalmente ético-moral, que, exaltando a virtude e se desvencilhando dos valores meramente temporais, buscava a felicidade naquilo que não é perecível. Pois, tudo que é sujeito ao tempo pode ter a sua natureza afetada pelo mal, que, em seu entendimento, é ausência ou distorção daquilo que é bom. Reconhecendo, então, que somente Deus é eterno e não está sujeito ao tempo, não podendo ser perdido ou modificado, entendia que buscar a felicidade era, inevitavelmente, buscar a Deus, porém, sabia não ser através dos próprios esforços que o homem chega a Deus, posto que Ele é infinito, então, necessário se faz o auxílio divino: a graça. Neste ponto separou-se dos gregos, pois substituiu a sabedoria humana, pela sabedoria divina. E assim, sem prescindir das compreensões inteligíveis, necessárias para o reconhecimento daquilo que pode ser chamado de beata vita, tenta por intermédio das experiências e da autocompreensão da consciência, encontrar a plenitude espiritual, na qual estaria a perfeita Verdade e a verdadeira liberdade, sem as quais seria impossível vivenciar a verdadeira felicidade.

Para tanto, três perspectivas são consideradas: 1 - A controvérsia entre Agostinho e o Maniqueísmo, que atribuía o mal à matéria; 2 - O debate contra o monge bretão Pelágio em torno da natureza humana; 3 - A visão ambiental de Agostinho nas relações entre natureza humana e natura creata. Nessa trajetória, o conceito de natura permanece ligado à noção de graça divina e adquire quatro significados: teológico, existencial, histórico e ambiental. Em um contexto de inquietações morais e políticas, o Bispo de Hipona desenvolve uma noção ontológica de natura, cuja síntese se expressa no trinômio ontológico Deus - natureza humana - natura creata e contribui para uma filosofia da natureza, enquanto discurso racional do ser submetido à mudança. Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to show that the concept of natura to Saint Augustine contributes to a philosophy of nature. For this, three perspectives are considered: 1 - The controversy against the Manichaeism, which assigned evil to the material substance; 2 - The dispute between Augustine and Pelagio about the human nature; 3 - The environmental point of view of Augustine on the relations between human nature and natura creata. Following this course, the concept of natura remains attached to the notion of divine grace and acquire four meanings: theological, existential, historical and environmental. Among moral and political problems, the Bishop of Hipona expands their ontic notion of natura according to the trinomial God - human nature - natura creata, and contributes to a philosophy of nature while arational discourse about the being in change.
