Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) is a key technology in modern ironmaking by blast furnace and the life of injection lance has a great influence on PCI operation and on normal running of blast furnace. It is found that the main reasons for the failure of the lances are their outer surface oxidation and the inner surface erosion through monitoring some lances used in BF. The outer surface oxidation of the lances made of lCr18Ni9Ti is inevitable under high hot blast temperature condition through thermodynamics analysis. Increasing the inner surface hardness by surface treatment would prolong the service life of coal lance. The anti-oxidation temperature of lance materials needs to be over 1000°C for BF intensified smelting.

Abstract:
Stirring characteristics of wall oxygen lances of EAF and bath mixing under different conditions were studied by using an 1/10 length scale down of cold model of 100-ton capacity EAF. The effects of horizontal angle, vertical angle of a lance and the distribution of lances along the EAF wall on bath stirring and mixing were researched experimentally. The results showed that the horizontal angle of the lances had significant impact on the local fluid flow and mixing time, whereas the mixing time is less affected by the lance vertical angle relatively. It was found that the shortest mixing time had been obtained in the conditions that the horizontal angles were -3°, 0° and -2° respectively under the modified lance distribution in the variant shape of bath. Compared with the mixing time measured in the conditions of the prototype, the average mixing time for p1, p2 and p3 and the mixing time for p4 point were reduced by 52.3% and 44.7% respectively with the optimum scheme.

Cavitation erosion has long been recognized as a potential problem in the components and piping of diesel engine fuel injection systems. Specific cavitation erosion problems have been experienced recently in the fuel injection systems of the Colt-Pielstick PC2 engines of the Great Lakes bulk carriers MV James R. Barker, MV Mesabi Miner, and MV William J. De Lancey. Similar damage has been found in the injection systems of PC2 engines onboard other U.S.-flag vessels. The experience on the subject vessels and the efforts being taken to eliminate or minimize these problems are described. The modeling and methods used in a digital computer simulation of the fuel injection system on these vessels are presented. This simulation is being developed to study the effects of the delivery valve spring characteristics and performance, system pressures, and various system details and potential modifications on the overall performance of the fuel injection system. Special emphasis has been placed upon the factors which can be causing the cavitation damage within the high-pressure injection piping and injector bodies. Example simulation results are presented. The simulation will provide a practical and economical way to evaluate potential modifications.

The hot experiment was carried out to study the effect of lance nozzle and mixing gas blowing on steelmaking. The heat load of oxygen lance, component in the bath and dust generation were studied in the hot experiment under different lances and mixing blowing process. The absorbed heat is lower and the slag adhesion on the oxygen lance is reduced with the lance nozzle angle increasing. By using small portion of carbon dioxide as top gas is help to reduce the temperature in the impact area and decrease the dust generation, but the decarbonization rate decrease with the proportion of carbon dioxide increasing.

La distribución de tallas de las capturas es una fuente de información esencial para la estimación del crecimiento y la dinámica espacio-temporal de las cohortes. La distribución de tallas de las capturas se estima a partir de muestras de individuos capturados en los lances. Este trabajo estudia la cantidad óptima de individuos a muestrear en cada lance para obtener una muestra representativa de las tallas del lance, y de la proporción de juveniles en el lance. Para ello, se utilizan datos de tallas de diferentes lances en la pesca de anchoveta peruana (Engraulis ringens) registrados por observadores a bordo del Programa Bitácoras de Pesca del Insti-tuto del Mar del Perú, y remuestreos a partir de esos datos. Finalmente proponemos un tamaño de muestra óptimo que permite obtener estimaciones robustas de tallas y proporción de juveniles. Aunque este trabajo se aplicó a la pesca de anchoveta, el procedimiento es aplicable a cualquier pesquería, para muestreos bio-métricos a bordo o en tierra.

Abstract:
A new lancet with an extremely small needle (0.15 mm diameter and 0.75 mm length) mounted on a small pedestal was tested in diabetic patients for blood glucose measurement in a randomized clinical study. A total of 37 diabetic patients were enrolled for the study. A pain scale categorized from 0 to 3 was created to measure the intensity of puncture pain which was explained to patients before testing. The patients' fingers were punctured with their own old style lancets at least 1 hour before the punctures by the new lancets, and puncture pains recorded according to the pain scale. All patients tested with the new lancet reported no pain and recorded the puncture pain as scale 0. Among the total 37 patients tested with their old style lancets, 2 patients (5.40%) reported no pain and recorded the pain as scale 0, thirteen patients (35.14%) recorded as scale 1, 16 patients (43.24%) as scale 2, and 6 patients (16.22%) as scale 3. The average pain scale of the patients who used old style lancets was 1.702 with the standard error 0.133. The chi-square goodness-of-fit test shows that the proportion of the pain scales comes from the claimed distribution with unequal frequencies, and chi-square tests for independence indicate that neither sex nor age of the sample patients is related to the pain scales. The paired t-test to test the existence of any difference in pain levels between the new lancet and the old style lancet showed; t = 1.702/0.133 = 12.796 with p-value ≤ 0.005 (df = 36). The average pain level from the old style lancet is significantly higher than from the new lancets. Pain-free needle puncture was achieved by limiting the puncture depth to less than 0.75 mm with a thin needle with a 0.15 mm diameter. By allowing patients to see the new lancets before testing, psychological pain anticipation was minimized as the very thin and short needle is visually less intimidating. With a pain free puncture, better compliance and improved subsequent glucose levels may be achieved.

<p>In martial tradition, spears and lances have always played a very important role as main weapons on the battlefield, as exemplified through Iranian military history. Its reach and cheap production were important factors for establishing formations of soldiers equipped with spears and lances. Additionally, the combat techniques of spears and lances were relatively easy and one could learn the techniques of spearfighting and lancefighting much easier than other weapons, such as swords. The first part of the article describes some types of spears and lances that were used in the Islamic period of Iran. Then the method of carrying a spear/lance is analyzed and additionally some offensive techniques, feinting techniques, attacking techniques to the animal carrying the opponent, and defensive techniques using spears/lances are described as documented by Persian manuscripts.</p>

Abstract:
Blow-off of a liquid metal bath through a lance, located in the bottom part of a ladle wall, is usually considered as one of well-known long time ago variant of steel refining in ladle. However, despite a wide repute and availability of a series of advantages, the technology was not widely spread. An estimation of stirring efficiency and splashes formation at different variants of compressed air supply made. The studies were done at a transparent water model with a color indicator application. It was determined, that upper and bottom lances shifting relating to ladle symmetry axle promotes the stirring intensification and simultaneous decrease of splashes height. The best results were obtained at the simultaneous utilization of asymmetrically located submerged lance and a side lance, oriented in gas-liquid flow direction in the bottom part of the vessel. The side lance is more preferable in maintenance, since for them a ladle fringe is not required as in the case with bottom lances, it is not subjected to falling metal stream action as well as to metal and slag residuals action after tapping finishing. It is possible to provide an improvement of stirring conditions and metal tapping by shifting and inclination of a side lance. Industrial tests showed, that a facility for metal blow off through porous insertions, installed in ladle wall, have a high throughput ability, provide a reliable operation within a course of ladle lining campaign without intermediate repair. It does not require capital outlays and can be recommended for industrial application.

Numerical models of steelmaking processes are essential tools for process development and optimisation. A usable model is detailed enough to provide reliable results and not to slow to run. In order to make a fast and accurate model of a single process, all model parameters must be known well. This can be achieved by first simulating detailed models from which the parameters are obtained.In many converter processes oxygen is delivered into melt by supersonic top lance blowing. When such process is modeled, a model describing mass transfer from the lance into melt surface is needed.This paper describes numerical modeling of mass transfer by supersonic lances. Lance flow CFD models are used to determine mass transfer coefficients for typical lance applications. Models are validated with supersonic nozzle data and wall impinging jet mass transfer data from literature. The results are later used in fast process simulation models.

The paper presents the results of model experiments with new lance design. The lance was invented in Silesian University of Technology, Department of Foundry. It is dedicated for the pneumatic powder injection into liquid metal bath without lance submersion. The situation like that is common for small molten alloy volume when the problem of temperature decrease is significant. In such case the carrier gas introduction into metal as well as cooling with gas blowing onto metal bath surface should be avoided. The new lance was equipped with four parallel slots made on its outlet and a flange. This design causes the carrier gas evacuation before it reaches the molten metal surface. The article presents the model experiments made with use of the device for the diphase gas-powder jet forces recording. The comparison of two lances: normal steel pipe and this of new design was presented in the article, too.

The stinging apparatus is expected to vary depending on the type of prey taken and the way it is carried in apoid wasps and the purpose of defense it serves in bees. To understand the differences in sting morphology, members of two apoid wasp families (Ampulicidae and Crabronidae) and a bee family (Halictidae) were studied. Scanning Electron Microscope images of lancets revealed tooth like projections on dorso-lateral aspect in Ampulex compressa (Fabricius, 1781) and blunt barbs on the lancets of Liris aurulentus (Fabricius, 1787) and Tachysphex bengalensis Cameron, 1889 whereas, in Halictus fimbriatellus Vachal, 1894 barbs are arranged in two rows on lancet, which includes four barbs on one side and three barbs on the other side of lancet which are not acutely pointed. The SEM images also indicated the presence of campaniform sensilla on the lancets of compressa. These findings help us to know the possible relationships of hunting behavior and modification of the sting in accordance.

The present paper reports the results of some spray application trials carried out in a greenhouse with full developed tomato plants to assess foliar deposition, ground losses, and dermal operator exposure when using handheld high pressure spray lances and when walking backwards during treatments. Two spray lance types (conventional with one nozzle and Yamaho C-6 with two steel nozzles, each with two orifices) and two working pressures (10 and 20 bar) were taken into consideration. An experimental design with two factors (spray lance and pressure) was adopted, arranged according to a randomised block design with three replicates. Volume application rates ranged from 775 up to 1252 L/ha, but all data were normalised to 1000 L/ha. The results showed no statistically significant differences in the mean foliar deposition between the two spray lances and the two working pressures. However, the higher pressure improved significantly the deposit into the internal layer of the canopy (+57%), whereas the Yamaho C-6 spray lance produced a higher deposit on the external layer at any pressure. The greatest differences between external and internal layer were mainly concentrated in the middle and high parts of the canopy, where there were 55 007_Cerruto(557)_49 18-11-2009 11:59 Pagina 55 the highest values of LAI and number of foliar layers. The fraction of the applied volume rate on the ground was on average 25 percent and it was affected only by the pressure value: it increased from 21.7 to 28.7 percent when the pressure increased from 10 to 20 bar, due mainly to the contribution of the conventional spray lance under the sprayed twin-rows. Finally, neither pressure nor spray lance type affected significantly the dermal operator exposure. Upper limbs accounted for 51 percent of the total exposure, while trunk and lower limbs accounted for 24 percent each. The body parts more exposed were the left arm and the hands, but also relatively high was the deposit on the respirator, so operators should ever wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Lance injected desulphurization become ineffective when injection ports become obstructed. In this work, the difference of the flow fields between single and double hole injection was investigated by numerical simulations. When one of the openings in a T-shaped injection lance is blocked, a dead zone occurs in the ladle over approximately 1/4th of the volume, and there is not an active flow field on the surface of clogging side. To decrease clogging, industrial experiments examining different diameter lances were carried out. The results showed that clogging can be reduced by increasing the injection pressure and optimizing the injection hole diameter to be approximately 10 times the particle size of desulphurizer.

To date, the most common in the oxygen-converter shops of metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine is the top purge using single-tier lances. Therefore, it is important to conduct research to improve the design of lances. The article is devoted to the results of the study of the use of multilevel lances. For the first time the main stages of development and use of multilevel lances in oxygen-converter shops of metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine from the moment of their origin to the present time are fully described. The first constructions of two-tier and three-tier structures of lances, which passed industrial or experimental tests in Ukraine, were developed at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It is shown that multilevel lances in oxygen-converter shops of metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine have repeatedly demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of their use, compared with the classic designs of single-storey lances. But due to the difficult economic situation in the metallurgical industry, the use of such lances was stopped. It is established in the work that the use of multi-level lances allows: to increase the number of control actions on the purge and thus stabilize the development of physicochemical processes, the calm purge; to improve the heat balance of converter smelting; to increase the rate of afterburning of CO to CO2; provide, if necessary, simultaneous purging with two types of gases; increase the amount of scrap metal in the filling, lime, fluorspar, sinter and chromium ore, without the use of additional energy; reduce the intensity of sweeping of lance and oxygen-converter equipment. Studies have shown that the shortcomings in the process of industrial operation of multi-layered lances are primarily due to the imperfection of empirically designed structures. The ways of elimination of shortcomings of multilevel lances due to development of a rational design and the corresponding technique of calculation of its basic constructive parameters are shown.

The analysis of variable factors affecting the gas-producer plant functioning has been carried out. The study has shown that the most significant factor affecting the gasification process in the reaction zone of the gasifier is the supply mode of O2 oxidizing agent, which is the atmospheric air. Having taken into account the results of the exploratory studies, the authors have patented and proposed parametric control elements of the oxidizing agent supply in the plane and volume of the gasifier reaction zone. The article deals with the basic control modes of the blast lances of the gasifier, such as static, dynamic synchronous and dynamic asynchronous ones. The method of calculation of the oxidizer flow rate under different control modes of the blast lances, under condition of maintaining the rate of airflow out of the lance in the optimal range of speeds is given.

RESUMO Objetivo: Descrever os hábitos alimentares das crianças pré-escolares brasileiras, relacionados à ingestão dos lanches intermediários, e verificar o aporte nutricional dos mesmos. Metodologia: Análise secundária de questionário estruturado respondido por 3 dias, pelas mães de 1.391 crianças de 4 a 6 anos, de todas as regiões do país, sobre os alimentos consumidos nos lanches e suas quantidades. Resultados: 98,20% das crianças brasileiras realizam os lanches intermediários e, em média, são compostos por 2,9 grupos de alimentos. Qualitativamente, as composições dos lanches da manhã e da tarde foram semelhantes, em sua maioria contendo os mesmos grupos alimentares: frutas em geral, biscoitos em geral e iogurtes em geral. O lanche da tarde se mostrou mais calórico e com consumo mais frequente de alimentos variados e com alto teor de açúcares de adição (como balas, sorvetes e chocolates). O consumo de açúcar de adição, somadas as quantidades de açúcares do lanche da manhã e da tarde, se aproximou do limite recomendado para a dieta. O consumo do grupo das frutas em geral foi frequente em 98,8% das composições de lanches estudadas. Conclusão: As crianças pré-escolares brasileiras têm o hábito de realizar os lanches intermediários. A composição dos lanches é de suma importância, uma vez que são oportunidades para o preenchimento dos requerimentos nutricionais desta faixa etária, que por estarem em período de crescimento e desenvolvimento, precisam de aporte nutricional adequado.

In this study the nociceptive activity in the brain evoked by tissue-damaging skin lance was analyzed with electroencephalography (EEG) in 20 healthy adult volunteers (13 men and 7 women) aged 21–40 yr. Time-frequency analysis of the evoked activity revealed a distinct late event-related vertex potential (lance event-related potential, LERP) at 100–300 ms consisting of a phase-locked energy increase between 1 and 20 Hz (delta-beta bands). A pairwise comparison between lance and sham control stimulation also revealed a period of ultralate stronger desynchronization after lance in the delta band (1–5 Hz). Skin application of mustard oil before lancing, which sensitizes a subpopulation of nociceptors expressing the cation channel TRPA1, did not affect the ultralate desynchronization but reduced the phase-locked energy increase in delta and beta bands, suggesting a central interaction between different modalities of nociceptive inputs. Verbal descriptor screening of individual pain experience revealed that lance pain is predominantly due to Aδ fiber activation, but when individuals describe lances as C fiber mediated, an ultralate delta band event-related desynchronization occurs in the brain-evoked activity. We conclude that pain evoked by acute tissue damage is associated with distinct Aδ and C fiber-mediated patterns of synchronization and desynchronization of EEG oscillations in the brain.

Abstract We describe a study made at two pediatric centers to test experimental lancets for blood collection by skin puncture of infants' heels or fingers. Our primary goal is to decrease the hazard of osseous injury while collecting adequate blood, by using three lancet widths at a constant length of 1.0 mm. The three widths used were 1.0, 1.25, and 1.5 mm. When success at skin puncture was defined rigidly on the basis of the blood volume obtained, the data show that success was related neither to the lancets' dimensions as tested nor to the age of the child, but rather to the phlebotomist's skill and experience, which improved with time.

Abstract:
For the upper blasting lances of 250-tons oxygen converters at PJSC «DMС» (Kamenskoe, Ukraine) the author has proposed a number of welded structures of 5-nozzle lance heads with increased resistance. A set of industrial studies of their operation made it possible to establish that the devices which provide cooling of the areas back from the nozzle zone of the tip have the highest resistance. Measures to increase the values of the average cooler speeds in welded structures of the lance heads and their rigidity also turned out to be quite effective. The transfer of copper welds holding the nozzle inserts in the copper tip from its outer surface to the inner proved to be ineffective from the point of increasing resistance of the lance head (the average resistance of the heads increased by only 7 heats – from 78 to 85 heats). This allows us to assert the need for complete elimination of copper welds in the head (both external, exposed to high-temperature and mechanical stresses, and internal) that hold nozzle inserts in the holes of the welded tip and lance head collector. Thus, in spite of all the measures taken to transfer the welds from the outer surface of the tip to its inner surface, to improve cooling of the tip and its back from the nozzle zones, which also include sections of copper welds around the nozzles, as well as to increase the rigidity of the blast welded structure heads, this led, although to positive, but still to relatively low results. The data obtained indicate that welds made of copper around the nozzle inserts, which are held by this in the tip (also in the collector) of the head, are the limiting link that does not significantly increase the resistance of welded lance heads, and it is urgently necessary to back off its use.

OBJETIVO: Verificar a prevalência da substituição do almoço e do jantar por lanches em adolescentes e a associação com estado nutricional e sexo, assim como avaliar os alimentos que substituem as refeições. MÉTODOS: Estudo transversal com 106 adolescentes do ensino médio de uma escola técnica localizada no município de São Paulo, que responderam a um questionário sobre atitudes alimentares a partir do qual foi avaliada a frequência de substituição do almoço e do jantar por lanche e os alimentos substitutos. Foram aferidos o peso e a altura para o cálculo do índice de massa corpórea por idade, e a classificação do estado nutricional de acordo com o critério da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Foi realizada análise descritiva com nível de significância de 5%. RESULTADOS: Um terço dos adolescentes substituiu o almoço e metade deles substituiu o jantar por lanches. Verificou-se que mais meninas costumavam substituir refeições. Observou-se maior prevalência de substituição do almoço (40%) e do jantar (70%) por lanche entre adolescentes obesos. Sanduíches, salgados, pizzas e hambúrgueres foram os principais substitutos das refeições. CONCLUSÕES: Verificou-se prevalência elevada de substituição de refeições principais, principalmente do jantar, por lanches. Os substitutos do almoço e do jantar apresentavam, em sua maioria, alta densidade energética e baixo valor nutritivo.

MÉTODOS: Dezessete voluntários, professores e funcionários técnico-administrativos de uma instituição de ensino de Florianópolis com idade média de 46,71 (±2,2) anos, e índice de massa corporal médio de 24,93 (±0,9) kg/m² registraram, durante sete dias consecutivos, o tipo e a quantidade de alimentos e bebidas consumidos, especificando o modo de preparo, o tipo de evento alimentar (refeição ou lanche), a hora do dia e o dia da semana. RESULTADOS: Realizaram-se, em média, 2,7 refeições e 3,2 lanches diariamente. Os lanches e as refeições mostraram diferenças entre si, tanto em relação à proporção de macronutrientes quanto ao valor energético total. As refeições forneceram cerca de três vezes mais calorias que os lanches e foram compostas, predominantemente, por proteínas e lipídios, enquanto nos lanches predominaram os carboidratos. A hora do dia também mostrou exercer influência no consumo. CONCLUSÃO: No período das 12h às 15h59min, o consumo foi significativamente maior que nos demais momentos do dia, mas não se observou um aumento significativo do consumo energético total nos dias do fim de semana.

Abstract This is updated information on acceptable practice in skin puncture and blood collection in infants, as well as on the devices used, with the additional aim of emphasizing major problem areas and some tentative solutions. Consensus standards for skin puncture have little experimental support, and evade the hard fact that studies are needed to clarify optimum sites for puncture and depth and width of lancets, and to assess the effects of compression and skin resistance in the puncturing process. Preliminary data revealed that the puncturing depth of 2.4 mm recommended for the newborn is excessive. In four of 14 newborns at necropsy, the distance from posterior planar skin surface to underlying bone ranged between 2.0 and 2.2 mm. An experimental lancet, with a 1.8-mm tip length and a diameter of 0.79 mm yielded customary blood volumes from newborns in three of the four pediatric centers where it was tested. Lack of success with the lancet was attributed to inexperienced phlebotomists, not to the lancet's decreased size. Also reviewed are problems with common devices used, and the need for examining the "economy" of blood collection.

The cultivation of vegetables in greenhouses is characterised by high planting density and environmental conditions that favour the development of pests and diseases. These are mainly controlled using plant protection products applied with a hand-held sprayer. This is inefficient low-tech equipment that is difficult to calibrate. The study evaluates one hand-held spray gun and two hand-held spray lances that are widely used in greenhouse vegetable crops. The tests were carried out on a pepper crop at two different developmental stages. Plant canopy deposition and losses to the ground were quantified using a colorimetric method based on applying a tartrazine solution. The results show that the flat-fan spray lance obtains a more uniform spray distribution in the plant canopy and results in losses to the ground that are between 2 and 2.75 times less than when using the other hand-held sprayers tested.

Metallurgical aggregates, which are used for metal waste melting, are equipped with lances for blowing gaseous media. These gaseous media allow especially scrap melting and intense homogenization of the resulting melt. In connection with this, the blowing systems are developed both for blowing of gaseous media itself on the bath surface or into the melt and for blowing of the gas mixture with powdered substances. When designing the blowing systems and the individual lance tips and nozzles, it is necessary to respect certain criteria, the derivation of which is based on long-term experience and acquired knowledge in this field. The submitted paper summarizes the design recommendations, including the determination of the selected design characteristics of the nozzles for blowing gaseous media on the bath surface in the metallurgical aggregate. These design characteristics help designers and engineers to design systems that meet the high demands on quality, efficiency and operational reliability.

Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo do tipo transversal, exploratório, descritivo com abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa; conduzido com 82 escolares, de ambos os sexos, na faixa etária de 8 e 14 anos de duas escolas selecionadas (A e B) com o uso da metodologia ativa de oficina de lanche saudável. A Oficina aconteceu nas dependências das escolas participantes, com a elaboração e degustação do lanche saudável: sanduíche natural, suco da horta e uma fruta. Foi aplicado o teste de aceitabilidade da escala hedônica facial e a análise estatística foi planejada no software SAM (Statistical Analysis Model) e os testes de hipótese foram executados no programa BioEstat, versão 5.3. Resultados: O estudo avaliou a aceitabilidade do lanche saudável através da aplicação da escala hedônica facial. A aceitação dos escolares foi de 87,5% na escola A e de 95,24% na escola B. Conclusão: Há viabilidade na execução de lanches saudáveis com vegetais cultivados nas hortas escolares municipais e os índices de aceitação expressaram resultados favoráveis à implementação.

If quality of life of women suffering from pelvic prolapse is investigated, the impact of symptoms may result dramatic, causing psychological, relational, sexual, working problems. Posterior vaginal wall defects are classified as rectocele and enterocele. Rectocele means hernia or protrusion of the anterior wall of rectum in vagina, such condition being determined both by softening of posterior vaginal wall and by damaging of lateral insertions of the vagina to the pelvic wall. RIASSUNTO Il descensus del pavimento pelvico &egrave; una condizione frequente nella popolazione femminile, destinata inevitabilmente ad aumentare con l&rsquo;aumento dell&rsquo;et&agrave; media della popolazione. In the choice of the type of surgical intervention to be carried out for the correction of an anatomical and/or functional defect is necessary to carefully evaluate the impact that this intervention may cause to women&rsquo;s life and - as the evidencebased medicine imposes - it is necessary to evaluate the adequacy of medical interventions as to the possibility that they offer to promote or regain health. The surgical technique used foresees a transversal incision of the posterior vaginal wall at the rima vulvae with detachment of the vagina and exposure of the rectovaginal septum up to the posterior fornixes. Exposing the ischial spine, a Vicryl point is given bilaterally 1 cm forward and upward to the spine itself. Thus the PelvocolTM tape is fixed with the same thread that consequently anchors the wall of the vaginal fundus, De Lancey II-III point. Our experience demonstrated that the carrying out of the above described surgical technique not only guarantees the anatomical preservation of the posterior segment, but represents an optimal repair of the pelvic statical defect. The Pelvicol implant guarantees to women the return to normal social and sexual life, so that this method is to be privileged with respect to traditional surgical techniques. However, this surgery needs a wider usage trial by other surgeons, in order to find its definite role in rectocele surgical therapy.

The article explains the meaning of the term “the Holder of Forty Spears” (“қырық сүңгілі”) in a separate list of the Turko-Tatar Chronicles Däftär-i Čingiz-nāmä at the end of the XVII century. Besides, a trial of identifying some characters was done from the mentioned source as “the Holder of Forty Spears” – Bolat bahadur” and his son “Bek bey” with real historical figures (beks, tribal chiefs) of the Golden Horde at the time of Janibek Khan. In the military history of the ancient settlers of Eurasia and late medieval Turko-Mongol nomadic tribes, spears and lances were one of the main types of weapons of the close combat and their importance was mentioned more than once in the writings. In addition to the basic, functional, combat assignment, spears and lances in the military culture and traditions of the Turko-Mongol nomads of the Great Steppe had a symbolic meaning. A spear, as a means of armament, used in a ram attack and a close combat, evolved into the symbol of statehood in the form of banners, flags, and possessing them equaled the status of “a commander-in-chief” or “a major warlord”. In this regard, by analyzing and taking into consideration continual several century-long military traditions of the steppe nomads, the article implies the word combination “the Holder of Forty Spears” (“қырық сүңгілі”) in Däftär-i Čingiz-nāmä is equal to “Commander-in- Chief Army”, in other words, in our opinion, in this source spear-lance is represented as an abstracted textual symbol indicating “an army”, “a huge troop” and its Holder as “a commander-in-chief”, “major warlord”.

O espinhel é uma arte de pesca passiva que proporciona pouco impacto sobre o fundo oceânico. A pesca com espinhel de fundo na costa amazônica foi caracterizada, no que diz respeito à embarcação utilizada, faina, esforço de pesca e as espécies capturadas. As coletas de dados foram realizadas in loco na embarcação de espinhel da frota artesanal de Bragança-PA, durante 15 lances, distribuídos em três áreas de pesca. A embarcação é considerada de pequeno porte, possui equipamentos necessários para navegação e estruturas específicas para o desenvolvimento das tarefas a bordo. As iscas são obtidas por meio de permuta com embarcações de médio porte. Durante o lançamento e recolhimento de espinhel, 2.600 anzóis são iscados em média por lance. As capturas realizadas na plataforma.continental amazônica possuem alta diversidade de peixes, tendo os bagres e os tubarões apresentando os maiores índices de abundância. Mais da metade dos tubarões capturados com espinhel de fundo eram adultos, sugerindo um alto poder de seletividade desse apetrecho e indicando uma potencialidade de uma pesca mais sustentável. Abstract:
É indispensável para o crescimento e desenvolvimento da criança uma alimentação adequada, pois proporciona ao organismo os nutrientes e a energia necessária para o bom desempenho das funções e para a manutenção de um bom estado de saúde. O objetivo desse estudo foi fazer uma análise nutricional dos lanches consumidos no âmbito escolar, buscando construir considerações quanto à qualidade da alimentação para este público. Para isso, foi utilizado um questionário preenchido pelos pais e/ou responsáveis cujos dados foram posteriormente calculados com o auxílio do programa DietWin®. Segundo as análises realizadas, a maioria dos lanches não apresentou conformidade com os valores de referência da Resolução do Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento da Educação. Com isso, destaca-se a importância de realizar mais estudos na área, a fim de alertar a necessidade da implementação de ações de educação alimentar e nutricional nas escolas para contribuir com melhorias na alimentação infantil e na qualidade de vida deste público.Palavras-chave: alimentação infantil, pré-escolar, escolar, lanche.

Every day allergists deal with skin prick testing. Following a recent paper showing that the intrevenous needle and the metal lancets are superior to the Stallerpoint® plastic lancet, the manufacturer has improved the device to reach better standards in terms of sensitivity, intra-patient reproducibility and inter-patient reproducibility, as demonstrated on 10 adult patients, comparing the results with skin tests performed with the intravenous needle. We evaluated the sensitivity of the device by calculating the ratio between the number of true-positive tests and the sum of true-positive and false-negative tests. To assess the reproducibility of the test, we calculated the interpatient and the intrapatient coefficient of variation between the mean diameters of the papules induced by the different techniques. The improved device shows performances similar to those obtained with the intravenous needle.

Abstract:
The history of the creation and development of the research unit of the Iron and Steel Institute, the department of after-furnace treatment of cast iron is presented. From 1939 to 1983, this structural unit of the ISI was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Natalya Aleksandrovna Voronova, then for 34 years, until 2017, the student and associate of N.A. Voronova – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Shevchenko A.F., from 2017 to the present, the department is headed by Kislyakov V.G. During this period, a set of scientific research and development has provided an opportunity for the department staff to defend 3 doctoral and 16 master's theses. Two employees of the department were awarded the academic title of professor, and ten – senior research assistant. The evolution of the technological process and equipment for the processing of cast iron by granular magnesium in ladles of various capacities is shown. In particular, it was not possible to inject granular magnesium without additives with lances used to inject mixtures of magnesium with fillers into the melt due to blockage of the channel of the magnesium wire at the outlet of the lance. To solve this problem, a lance of a new design was developed, at the outlet of the channel of which an evaporation chamber was installed, the task of which was to remove the section of the lance channel from direct contact with cast iron. The design of tuyeres with evaporation chambers made it possible to virtually eliminate blockages of the tuyere channel. The studies of the interaction of magnesium with molten iron became the scientific basis for the creation of a modern highly automated process for the secondary refining of cast iron by mono-injection of magnesium without additives. This technology received the most successful application in the creation of modernized complexes at Chinese enterprises. Since 2001, 84 complexes of out-of-furnace desulphurization of pig iron and slag download using ISI technology with a total capacity of over 100 million tons/year of low-sulfur and pig iron-free slag have been built and commissioned at 39 plants in China.

Morphine is a potent analgesic that provides effective pain relief in adults, but there is inconclusive evidence for its effectiveness in infants. The purpose of this study is to establish whether oral morphine provides effective analgesia for procedural pain in infants. A blinded, placebo-controlled, parallel-group randomized, phase II, clinical trial will be undertaken to determine whether morphine sulphate administered orally prior to clinically-required retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening and heel lancing provides effective analgesia. 156 infants between 34 and 42 weeks’ gestational age who require a clinical heel lance and ROP screening on the same test occasion will be included in the trial. Infants will be randomised to receive either a single dose of morphine sulphate (100 μg/kg) or placebo. Each infant will be monitored for 48 hours and safety data will be collected during the 24 hours following drug administration. The primary outcome will be the Premature Infant Pain Profile–revised (PIPP-R) score 30 seconds after ROP screening. The co-primary outcome will be the magnitude of nociceptive-specific brain activity evoked by a clinically-required heel lance. Infant clinical stability will be assessed by comparing the number of episodes of bradycardia, tachycardia, desaturation and apnoea, and changes in respiratory support requirements in the 24-hour periods before and after the clinical intervention. In addition, drug safety will be assessed by considering the occurrence of apnoeic and hypotensive episodes requiring intervention in the 24-hour period following drug administration. This study has been published as an Accepted Protocol Summary by The Lancet.
