Abstract:
We propose an axiomatization of the Choquet integral model for the general case of a heterogeneous product set X = X1 Xn. Previous characterizations of the Choquet integral have been given for the particular cases X = Y n and X = Rn. However, this makes the results inapplicable to problems in many fields of decision theory, such as multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA), state-dependent utility (SD-DUU), and social choice. For example, in multicriteria decision analysis the elements of X are interpreted as alternatives, characterized by criteria taking values from the sets Xi. Obviously, the i

Abstract:
Decision analytic modelling (DAM) is a mathematical technique which is used to structure and synthesise evidence in order to inform decision making, given uncertainty. Decision models are an ideal tool for undertaking economic evaluations as they enable a wide range of data on costs and effects to be synthesised within the model in order to derive cost-effectiveness outcomes. The iterative framework for economic appraisal has been proposed as good practice for undertaking economic evaluations (1), and DAM plays a key role within this framework. In particular there is a role for early stage DAM

Full text
Abstract:
The idea of a United Nations (UN) intelligence system is widely misunderstood and debates about it seem to be both misplaced and anecdotal. The lack of a consistent theory on intelligence has fostered the widely held view that such a system is not feasible or incompatible with the UN collective security system. This dissertation takes as its central thesis, the question, of whether an intelligence system is both desirable and feasible within the UN structure. In spite of the fact that no known study has so far engaged with the subject matter at the depth presented in this dissertation, the stu

Abstract:
This work considers the potential contribution of rational actor and behaviouralist models of political and participatory culture, in understanding specific contemporary issues within the topic of public participation in the decision making activities of UK local authorities. The basis for the research was a range of disruptive or confounding phenomena reported in various literatures, that either generate antipathy during schemes or create negative pre-conceptions that could affect future projects. It is suggested that an appreciation of these confounding factors, when viewed in the context of

Abstract:
The challenge of determining whether data from a gravitational wave detector contains signals which are cosmic in origin is the central problem in gravitational wave astronomy. The "detection problem" is particularly challenging for low amplitude signals embedded in "glitchy" instrument noise. It is imperative that we can robustly distinguish between the data being consistent with instrument noise alone, or noise and a weak gravitational wave signal. In response to this challenge we have set out to develop a robust, general purpose approach that can locate and characterize gravitational wave s

Abstract:
Since 2003, Children’s Services have sought to promote more consolidated work by professionals of different disciplinary backgrounds who might otherwise follow independent forms of practice. This is believed to enhance efficacy and reduce inequality in providing for vulnerable children (Boddy, Potts, & Statham, 2006; DCSF, 2003). Evidence that this improves child outcomes is mixed, however. Abstract:
This thesis is chiefly concerned with understanding the reasons behind British foreign policy towards Palestine between the invasion in December 1917 and final withdrawal in May 1948. It applies Poliheuristic Decision (Ph) Theory to British Cabinet decision-making at four critical junctures in foreign policy decision-making during this time period, arguing that contrary to the established literature on Mandate Palestine, British Cabinet policy reflected a stark lack of viable alternatives that left little room for consideration of personal biases, allegiances or sentimental attachment to eithe

The researchers make a substantial contribution to the deterrence literature by accounting for the effect of punishment avoidance when assessing deterrence theory. Less invasive surgical procedures allow a growing number of medical treatments to take place on an outpatient basis. Hospitals face growing competition from ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). The exercise of the rights is significant for the growth and trustworthiness of capital markets.
