Abstract:
In multi-layered wood materials, varying rates of dimensional changes can easily lead to cracking, which can have a negative impact on their structure and functionality. This study focuses on cracking issues of decorated blockboard caused by moisture content changes. First, surface cracks on the decorated blockboard were observed and classified using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Second, from modeling perspectives, the critical tensile strength of the surface of the decorated blockboard was predicted to be 16.93 MPa, providing guidance for crack-resistant modificat

Abstract. There are multiple conservation challenges related to decorated surfaces, the majority are intimately linked to its documentation. This paper draws on wall paintings as a representative of decorated surfaces, arguing the importance of considering its fourthdimensionality – space and time – in its conservation and documentation. To that end, we propose the use of Building Information Model (BIM) as a platform to consolidate this approach together with various documentation techniques used for the conservation and manage

From the myth of the unification of Egypt to the earliest known historical docu-ments, violence seems ubiquitous. This article focuses on archaeological evidence of violence at the dawn of the early dynasties. It reviews the data from work carried out in Adaïma and Hierakonpolis ; the reality of human sacrifice ; and the status of subsidiary tombs at Abydos and in large Early Dynastic cemeteries. This paper also considers the corpus of iconographic documents (Decorated vessels, the painted wall of Tomb 100 at Hierakonpolis and decorated palettes) to question the social practices of violence an

As SARS-CoV-2 is spreading rapidly around the globe, adopting proper actions for confronting and protecting against this virus is an essential and unmet task. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) promoting molecules such as peroxides are detrimental to many viruses, including coronaviruses. In this paper, metal decorated single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were evaluated for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) adsorption for potential use for designing viral inactivation surfaces. We employed first-principles methods based on the density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the capture of an individual H2O2
