Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a multifactorial condition of the ocular surface characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film. It manifests with symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbance, and tear film instability. Understanding the complexities of DED is crucial for effective diagnosis and management. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of DED, including its causes, current treatments, and future research directions. Although dry eye disease (DED) is one of the most common ocular surface diseases worldwide, its pathogenesis is incompletely understood, and treatment options are limited. There is growing evidence that complex interactions between the ocular surface microbiome (OSM) and tear fluid constituents, potentially leading to inflammatory processes, are associated with ocular surface diseases such as DED. In this study, we aimed to find unique compositional and functional features of the OSM associated with human and microbial tear proteins in patients with DED. Applying whole-metagenome shotgun seque

They can represent a potential serious diagnostic pitfall because the histological features of clinically indolent proliferations may mimic those of high-grade lymphoma.

In 2019, the bark beetle Ips amitinus (native to central Europe) was identified in south-western Siberia at a distance exceeding 2500 km east of its previously known easternmost location in the European part of Russia. In Siberia, its invasive populations are characterised by high abundance and harmfulness. Here, I. amitinus accomplishes primary attacks on standing vital trees of Pinus sibirica with a lethal outcome. This invasion has already resulted in massive dieback in stands of pine over a large geographic territory. By, 2021, the invaded area was estimated to cover at least 31,200 km2. T

ABSTRACT The Rho GTPases play distinctive roles in cytoskeletal reorganization associated with growth and differentiation. The Cdc42/Rac-binding p21-activated kinase (PAK) and Rho-binding kinase (ROK) act as morphological effectors for these GTPases. We have isolated two related novel brain kinases whose p21-binding domains resemble that of PAK whereas the kinase domains resemble that of myotonic dystrophy kinase-related ROK. These ∼190-kDa myotonic dystrophy kinase-related Cdc42-binding kinases (MRCKs) preferentially phosphorylate nonmuscle myosin light chain at serine 19, which is known to b

Chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV) is typically an indolent but long-lasting EBV-LPD of childhood. Another well documented EBV-associated LPD is the post-transplant EBV-LPD, which also occurs in adults. Fulminant proliferation of EBV after primary infection or in the setting of CAEBV is an aggressive type of disease, which has rece

In photosynthetic organisms, the photorespiratory cycle is an essential pathway leading to the recycling of 2-phosphoglycolate, produced by the oxygenase activity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase, to 3-phosphoglycerate. Although photorespiration is a widely studied process, its regulation remains poorly understood. In this context, phosphoproteomics studies have detected six phosphorylation sites associated with photorespiratory glycolate oxidases from Arabidopsis thaliana (AtGOX1 and AtGOX2).
