We maken hiervoor ge

Part-time work and gender equality Part-time work and gender equality A persistent issue in labour market research is whether part-time work contributes to the growth of female labour market participation or keeps women from participation in full-time jobs. Elaborating on a growth model of part-time work, we hypothesise that a high share of part-time jobs and growth of part-time work increase female labour market participation and equality, and that the growth effects decline under the condition of a high share of part-time work. We test the hypotheses with data on annual growth rates of femal

Part-time work and work strain Part-time work and work strain The article develops and explores the hypothesis that workers restrict their labour supply to prevent work strain. The hypothesis is developed drawing on research literature about the relationships between work hours, work strain and well-being. We explore the hypothesis using cross-sectional data from the Netherlands Working Conditions Survey 2007. These explorations show that a smaller number of work hours is related with less work strain; that employees in sectors with relatively high work strain in full-time jobs more often work

The growth of part-time employment: supply and demand The growth of part-time employment: supply and demand The Dutch labour market shows a high part-time employment rate, and the rate continues to grow at a pace faster than in other OECD countries. The increase in labour force participation of women plays an important role. The contribution of men to part-time employment is growing but stays behind that of women. The shift between sectors of industry, from manufacturing to services, contributes to the growth of part-time employment. We discuss several reasons for firms to hire part-time emplo
