The effect of chromia additive on defects in yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) nanopowders was investigated in this work. It was found that positrons are trapped at vacancy-like misfit defect at grain boundaries and at larger defects situated at triple points. Moreover, a long-lived ortho-positronium contribution was found in YSZ nanopowder without chromia. Addition of chromia prolongs the lifetime of positrons trapped at vacancy-like misfit defects which indicates segregation of Cr ions at grain interfaces and interaction of Cr with vacancy-like misfit defets. Moreover addition of chromia comp

Extracellular matrix (ECM) biomaterials have shown promise for treating small artucular-joint defetcs. However, ECM-based biomaterials generally lack appropriate mechanical properties to support physiological loads and are prone to delamination in larger cartilage defects. To overcome these common mechanical limitations, a collagen hyaluronic-acid (CHyA) matrix, with proven regenerative potential, was reinforced with a bioabsorbable 3D-printed framework to support physiological loads. Polycaprolactone (PCL) was 3D-printed in two configurations, rectilinear and gyroid designs, that were extensi

Linear elasticity theory predicts a divergent strain field at the dislocation core, resulting from the continuum approximation breaking down at the atomic scale. We introduce a minimum model that includes elastic interactions and discrete lattice periodicity, and derive a set of equations that treat the core of an edge dislocation from a solely geometric perspective. We find an analytical formula for the displacement field of a straight dislocation of arbitrary mixed character, and we predict that the dislocation core widens as the screw character becomes more dominant. Abstract Background The clinical treatment of long bone defets in the extremities caused by trauma, infection, tumours, and nonunion has been a challenge for orthopaedic surgeons. Bone transport techniques have become the only way to treat such bone defects. However, inevitable difficulties and complications related to bone transport techniques have been reported in many studies. Aim The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk factors for complications and the effectiveness of the Ilizarov bone transport technique in the treatment of tibial bone defects. Abstract:
This paper presents a new configuration of an electric field sensor, named “Differential Electric-Field Sensitive Field Effect Transistor” (DeFET). The new configuration which has different gate distances of DeFET is designed to detect tiny particles. The new design can be used in environmental applications such as one can detect carbon dioxide concentration in air. This paper also reviews the DeFET’s theory of operation and presents simulation which confirms the basic idea of the DeFET.
