Abstract:
The family Discidae has undergone extensive speciation in the Macaronesian region (eastern Atlantic Ocean), with 11 endemic species recognised from Madeira and the Canary Islands in recent checklists (Bank, Groh & Ripken 2002; Seddon 2008; Fauna Europaea database project 2011), grouped into the genera Keraea Gude, 1911 and Discus Fitzinger, 1833: K. deflorata (R.T. Lowe, 1855) and D. (Atlantica) guerinianus (R.T. Lowe, 1852), from Madeira; and nine species from the Canary Islands: K. garachicoensis (Wollaston, 1878), D. scutula, (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. engonatus (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. textilis (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. retextus, (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. putrescens (R.T. Lowe, 1861), D. ganodus (J. Mabille, 1882), D. gomerensis Rähle, 1994, and D. kompsus (J. Mabille, 1883). In contrast with the anatomical data known for the European and North American genera Discus and Anguispira Morse, 1864 (Uminski 1962; Pilsbry 1948), there has hitherto been no information published on the internal anatomy of the Canary Islands and Madeiran species, which are known only by their shell characters. In this paper we raise Atlantica to the rank of genus in the Discidae and describe shell and anatomical characters for two new species from La Gomera and Tenerife, respectively. They are grouped in a new subgenus of Atlantica, largely restricted to the laurisilva. This laurel-rich forest occurs in humid subtropical and warm-temperate regions with little variability in temperatures and is developed between 600 and 1,200 m above sea level in the Canary Islands (Yanes et al. 2009b: Fig. 2).

Abstract:
The systematic relationships between Carduus brutius and its putatively relative taxa, i.e. Carduus affinis and C. defloratus subsp. carlinifolius, were assessed by means of morphological, morphometric and karyological analyses. Our results highlighted a diploid status (2n = 2x = 22) for all the three involved taxa and a higher morphological similarity between C. brutius and C. affinis, which are also completely allopatric (but collectively sympatric with C. defloratus subsp. carlinifolius). The names Carduus affinis Guss., C. affinis var. brutius Fiori, C. affinis var. vulturius Fiori and C. affinis f. pollinensis Fiori were typified. At the present state of knowledge, a subspecific status seems the most appropriate for C. brutius, as C. affinis subsp. brutius. This taxon can be regarded as schizoendemic, restricted to southern Italy (Montea-Caramolo mountain area, Calabria).

Abstract:
The body and the stigma. Defloration as an act of building femininity The paper offers an analysis of the cultural meanings of the bodily attributes and practices related to virginity and defloration; the most important are “bloodstains” (a sign of the loss of virginity) and “penetration” (regarded as the only “true” form of sexual intercourse). The obligation to present the defloration and the shame that accompanies it are the vantage point to the analysis of the forms of stigmatizing femininity. A deconstruction of the meanings acquired by penetration led me to a conclusion that the cause-effect relation between gender and culturally defined sexual practices (including sexual orientation) is not only inseparable, but also different than it has usually been thought. It is not the gender that determines an individual’s sexuality, but the culturally imposed sexual practices build the gender. Ciało i piętno.

Abstract:

This academic text aims to analyze the deflowering of criminal legal processes and seduction during the years 1933 to 1954 analyzing the discourses of justice and medicine as producers of a standard model from the female body. It also was to focus evaluate how a disciplinary social order was produced from the medical discourses on the female body in the late nineteenth century and its effects in the early twentieth century; discuss the legal discourse about honor and gender relations in the discourses present in criminal cases, questioning the female identities; register the clash between the legal discourse and cultural discourse in the construction of the cultural identity of the woman during the criminal legal processes, and analyze the discourses in criminal processes on the female body, reflecting a model of social regulation. For the construction of this dissertation it was used as methodology the discourse analysis perspective on these narratives in criminal processes. Thus, we cataloged four cases that were selected because they were considered meaningful to the questions raised and, for this reason, required more attention. In this scenario, through the different reports of defendants, victims, witnesses and justice, we made inferences that integrated the dialogue with the literature sources. The analysis provided important traces about the social norms on women's lives in the period surveyed and on the restrictions that they were submitted, showing, in these criminal cases, that many of them were not willing to submit to moralizing and disciplinary discourses. This dissertation is composed of four chapters in which it is present a discussion with several concepts, including gender, body, sexuality, identity and standard.
