A total of 123 patients with middle lobe syndrome were examined: 82 (66.6%) men and 41 (33.4%) women, aged 16 to 86 years. The examination included a complex X-ray examination of the lungs, bronchoscopy with various types of biopsies, followed by bacteriological, cytological and histological studies of the biopsy material. The following diagnoses were established: pneumonia - in 44 patients, chronic deforming bronchitis - in 49, lobe cirrhosis - in 2, bronchiectasis - in 2, central lung cancer - in 8, lung abscess - in 6, tuberculosis - in 3, benign tumors - in 4, foreign bodies - in 4, sarcoi

Objective: to determine, evaluate, and describe different radiological patterns of microbiologically identified nontuberculous pulmonary mycobacterioses (NTPM) based on multislice computed tomography data. Material and methods. The study included 102 patients with radiological signs of lung disease and different types of NTPM. Slowly growing types of NTPM were detected in 62 (60.8 %) patients, and rapidly growing NTPM – in 40 (39.2 %). Introduction. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects not only the joints but also other organs. Lung disease is one of the leading manifestations of RA, and detection of these changes remains a diagnostic challenge. Delayed diagnosis of pulmonary involvement in the pathogenesis of RA often leads to development of severe forms which aggravate prognosis and decrease of the quality of life. Identify the characteristics and prognostic significance of CT and SPECT symptoms involving respiratory system in patients with RA depending on the stage of the disease and the destruction of hand joints as detecte

Narrowing of the intrathoracic trachea in the coronal plane with anteroposterior lengthening is characteristic of the saber-sheath trachea deformity. This structural disorder is strongly associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and may be related to chronic bronchitis. Although lateral compression suggests weakening and collapse, the supporting tracheal cartilage is usually thickened and densely calcified. We present a patient who was discharged after uneventful total laryngectomy but later complained of increasing airway obstruction from crusted secretions, resulting in visits to

SummaryRestrictive cardiomyopathy is a rare disease in children and adolescents. We have now encountered eight such cases in infants and children aged between nine months and 14 years. The reasons for admission to hospital were not very specific and included recurrent bronchitis, thoracic deformity, pathologic findings on routine electro-cardiography, or signs of cardiac failure. Despite two cases with atrial flutter, the characteristic electrocardiographic sign was a P-wave in lead II of about 0.6 to 1.5 m V. Echocardiographically, the leading feature was enlargement of the atriums, seen in c

BACKGROUND: Changes in the respiratory system in children with connective tissue dysplasia (CTD) have not been studied enough.
AIM: To study the features of CTD in patients of the pediatric pulmonology department with broncho-obstructive syndrome and chronic inflammation of the bronchi, to assess complaints and the nature of the disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients admitted to the department were evaluated according to the table of diagnostic signs of CTD. 380 children were examined, aged 2 to 17 years 11 months.

Abstract:
The premature fusion of some of the sternal ossification centers and the obliteration of the manubrio-sternal joint caused a rare deformity called Currarino-Silverman Syndrome. These patients present an abnormally short sternum with forward angulation at the manubrio-sternal junction. Cardio-pulmonary diseases and spinal deformities are the most frequent disorders related to this condition.

In clinical settings, doctors classify pulmonary disorders into two main categories, obstructive lung disease and restrictive lung disease. The former is characterized by the airway obstruction which is associated with several disorders like chronic bronchitis, asthma, bronchiectasis, and emphysema [1]. The latter is caused by different conditions where one of the triggers is tied to the spine deformity. In general, a pulmonary function test (PFT) [2] is used to evaluate and diagnose lung function, and physicians depend on the test results to identify the disease patterns of the patients (obst
