Full textMaurice Dejean was born in 1899 and died in 1982. His diplomatic career was unquestionably atypical; because of his modest origins, and also because he joined the diplomatic corps fairly late and in an original fashion. Thanks to his knowledge of Germany and of the intelligence service during the interwar period, Dejean ended up serving two French ambassadors in Berlin in the 1930s. He played a leading role in the 1939-1940 war. Knowing that he was awaited by de Gaulle in London, he joined Free France in January 1941. For two years, he was Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, and then the representative of France in all relations with other governments in exile. Thanks to his participation in the Resistance, Dejean embarked on a prestigious career in post-war French diplomacy. As Ambassador in Czechoslovakia, he was instantly confronted with the logic of the Cold War during the 1948 Czech Coup, as he was later, during the Korean War, which he observed from Tokyo. His mission as Commissioner General in Indochina, from the perspective of colonial history and international relations, ended in a failure with the fall of Dien Bien Phu. As Ambassador in Moscow from 1956, Dejean believed in the opening of the USSR and in the development of bilateral relations despite criticisms within his own team. His precipitated departure in 1964 put an end to his career, in an unusual fashion once again. This thesis follows the life of an atypical diplomat and offers, through the development of his chequered career, a better understanding of the broader contemporary issues which surrounded the diplomatic activity he carried out

A e Omalodes (O.) sp. nov. B; três novas sinonímias são propostas: Omalodes (O.) foveola (=Omalodes (O.) foveolabrasilianussyn. nov.); Omalodes (O.) lucidus (=Omalodes (O.) lucidus peruvianus syn. nov.) e Omalodes (O.) grossus (=Omalodes (O.) grossus lubricans syn. nov.) e uma chave dicôtomica atualizada é apresentada, incluindo as novas espécies. Lectótipos e paralectótipos foram designados para Omalodes (O.) anthracinus Marseul, 1853; Omalodes (O.) areaolatus Schmidt, 1889; Omalodes (O.) bifoveolatus Marseul, 1853; Omalodes (O.) clavulus Lewis, 1888; Omalodes (O.) fassli Bickhardt, 1911; Omalodes (O.) faustus Erichson, 1834; Omalodes (O.) foveola Erichson, 1834; Omalodes (O.) laevicollis Bickhardt, 1911; Omalodes (O.) lucidus Erichson, 1834; Omalodes (O.) novus Marseul, 1853; Omalodes (O.) seriatus Schmidt, 1889; Omalodes (O.) wagneri Desbordes, 1919. Abstract: Histeridae is composed of approximately 4,200 species distributed in 11 subfamilies, Histerinae is the largest of those comprising about 50% of the species of the family. They are generalistic predators with great morphological diversity, widely distributed in a great variety of enviroments, such as decomposing material (vegetable and animal), excrement, caracasses, nest of various vertebrates and also associated with other social insects such as ants and termites. Histerinae is composed of 5 tribes, Exosternini Bickhardt, 1914; Hololeptini Hope, 1840; Platysomatini Bickhardt, 1914; Omalodini Kryzhanovskij, 1972 and Histerini Gyllenhal, 1808. Currently Omalodini Kryzhanovskij, 1972 is composed of twelve genera and approximately 100 species of which Omalodes Dejean, 1833 is the largest genus of the tribe, with approximately 63 species described in three subgenera: Omalodes s. str., O. (Diplogrammicus) Lewis, 1907 andO. (Cornillus) Lewis, 1907. The genus presents an almost exclusivelyNeotropical distribution, except for three species with a distribution extending to the southern border of the USA. The main objectives of this work were to test the monophyly of Omalodes through the cladistic analysis of the genus, and to revise the species of Omalodes (Omalodes). The matrix was composed of 53 terminal taxa (50 of the ingroup and three of the outgroup) and 102 characters of adult external morphology. Numerous analyses were conducted utilizing equal weights and implicit weights; 34 most parsimonious trees were obtained and in all analyses the genus was recovered as a monophyletic group.Additionally, phylogenetic hypotheses for several species were proposed. It is suggested that the genus should should havetwo subgenus: Omalodes (Omalodes), composed of the previously species allocated in this subgenus and also by the species previously allocated in Omalodes (Diplogrammicus) and maintaining Cornillus as a separate subgenus of Omalodes. Five new species are described: Omalodes (O.) mazuri, Omalodes (O.) rivus, Omalodes (O.) punctulatus, Omalodes (O.) sp. nov. A andOmalodes (O.) sp. nov. B; three new synonyms are proposed for the genus: Omalodes (O.) foveola (=Omalodes (O.) foveolabrasilianussyn. nov.); Omalodes (O.) lucidus (=Omalodes (O.) lucidus peruvianus syn. nov.) andOmalodes (O.) grossus (=Omalodes (O.) grossus lubricans syn. nov.) and a new dichotomous key is proposed for the species of the genus.Lectotypes and paralectotypeswere designatedforOmalodes (O.) anthracinus Marseul, 1853; Omalodes (O.) areaolatus Schmidt, 1889; Omalodes (O.) bifoveolatus Marseul, 1853; Omalodes (O.) clavulus Lewis, 1888; Omalodes (O.) fassli Bickhardt, 1911; Omalodes (O.) faustus Erichson, 1834; Omalodes (O.) foveola Erichson, 1834; Omalodes (O.) laevicollis Bickhardt, 1911; Omalodes (O.) lucidus Erichson, 1834; Omalodes (O.) novus Marseul, 1853; Omalodes (O.) seriatus Schmidt, 1889; Omalodes (O.) wagneri Desbordes, 1919. Full textIn this thesis we study various problems on repetition avoidance in infinite words. Raised by Thue and motivated by his work on squarefree words, the topic developed during the 20th century, and has nowadays become a principal area of research in combinatorics on words. In 1972, Dejean proposed an important conjecture whose verification in steps was completed recently (2009). The conjecture concerns the repetition threshold for an alphabet, i.e., the infimum of the avoidable exponents for that alphabet. The notion of threshold as a borderline between avoidability and unavoidability for a given set of words is the guiding line of our work. First, we focus on a generalization of the repetition threshold. This concept allows us to include, in addition to the exponent, the length of the repetitions as a parameter in the description of the set of repetitions to avoid. We obtain various bounds in that respect. We then study existence problems for words in which simultaneously some repetitions are forbidden, and others are forced. For the ternary alphabet, we answer the question: what real numbers are the critical exponent of some infinite word over a given alphabet? Also, we introduce a notion of highly repetitive words and give a partial description of the pairs of exponents which parameterize the existence of words both highly repetitive and repetition-free. Finally, we use results and techniques stemming from those problems to solve a question on graph colouring: we introduce a repetition threshold adapted from the thresholds we know for words, and give its value for two classes of graphs, namely, trees and subdivision graphs

Full textThis work had as objective to evaluate the acting of an aeration equipment adopted in the treatment of dejections of bovine confined in the system ?free stall?, with the recycling of the diluted effluent in the cleaning of the facilities and subsequent use in the areas of cultivation of forages. A reactor was used, operated by the process of mud activated by ?boat-load? (LAB), with system of lingering and intermittent aeration, dimensioned for a time of hydraulic retention of 24 days, with dilution of the dejections in water in the proportion of volume 1:1. Samplings were accomplished in the entrance and inside the aeration tanks, in the exit of the irrigation tubulation and of the pure dejections of the animals. The following parameters were determined: pH, temperature, total Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), total Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), organic matter, total solids, total fixed solids, total solids suspended, solids suspended fixed, solids suspended volatile, total nitrogen, nitrogen amoniacal, potassium, phosphorus, total carbon, calcium and magnesium. High reductions of BOD (59,05%) and COD (48,16%) were reached for the irrigation effluent. Related to the stabilization of the organic matter, the relationship C/N of the irrigation effluent was of 13,9, indicating that the effluent was stabilized. Through the obtained results, it was found that the aeration system was efficient to reduce and to stabilize the organic matter of the liquid effluent, making possible the recycling in the cleaning of the facilities, providing considerable economy of water, with subsequent release of that treated effluent in the cultivation areas, improving the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the soil
