This chapter considersthe identification, assessment, allocation, negotiation, and management of the risks associated with a particular project(such as delay risk, cost overruns, technology risk, off-take risk, revenue risk, operating risk, supply risk, currency risk, political risk and environmental and social risk). A project’s value is based principally on its ability to generate revenue during its operating phase. Both the sponsors and the lenders need to be able to effectively identify and manage the risks associated with that project. This chapter also identifies how those risks can be managed and minimized. In addition the chapter contains an analysis under English law of the possible impact on risk allocation in a project arising from the effects of any supervening event.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the America Eats project and delves into why and how the Federal Writers' Project (FWP) began searching for America's regional cuisines. The narrative explores how, in New Deal food writing, food became a canvas for a sensory, emotional, felt manifestation of national identity. The chapter also examines the limits of this political project as it captures editors and local workers deliberating over which and whose regional foods would be deemed worthy of integration into the American culinary narrative. The analysis takes into account the prescriptive but also unstable and inconclusive nature of America Eats as the understanding of what American food was and who American eaters were evolved over the course of the project. In looking for the taste of the nation, the FWP often stumbled upon regional ethnic tastes that defied the aims of the project.

All across the social sciences, from development economics to political science departments, researchers are going into the field to collect data and learn about the world. While much has been gained from the successes of randomized controlled trials, stories of failed projects often do not get told. This book delves into the common causes of failure in field research, so that researchers might avoid similar pitfalls in future work. Drawing on the experiences of top social scientists working in developing countries, the book investigates failed projects and helps guide practitioners as they embark on their research. From experimental design and implementation to analysis and partnership agreements, the book shows that there are important lessons to be learned from failures at every stage. The book describes five common categories of failures, reviews six case studies in detail, and concludes with some reflections on best (and worst) practices for designing and running field projects, with an emphasis on randomized controlled trials. There is much to be gained from investigating what has previously not worked, from misunderstandings by staff to errors in data collection. Cracking open the taboo subject of the stumbles that can take place in the implementation of research studies, this is a valuable ‘how-not-to’ handbook for conducting fieldwork and running randomized controlled trials in development settings.

Fakulteta za elektrotehniko, računalništvo in informatiko (FERI) in Fakulteta za strojništvo (FS) Univerze v Mariboru (UM) edini v Sloveniji izvajata kakovostne samostojne študijske programe Mehatronike na dodiplomski univerzitetni in visokošolski strokovni 1. stopnji ter na podiplomski magistrski 2. stopnji študija. Diplomirani inženir Mehatronike je v domači industriji, še bolj pa v naši soseščini, izredno in vedno bolj iskan profil, strokovnjaki na tem področju pa sodelujejo v proizvodnji in razvoju najsodobnejših mehatronskih izdelkov. Študijski programi Mehatronike na Univerzi v Mariboru se odlikujejo s projektno orientiranim načinom izobraževanja, kjer študenti delajo v skupinah na različnih praktičnih mehatronskih problemih. Rezultate svojega projektnega dela predstavijo študenti javno konec zimskega semestra in konec študijskega leta na Letni konferenci Mehatronike. Tako so letos predstavili na konferenci (organizirani v dveh delih 20. 2. 2020 in 24. 6. 2020) skupaj 52 projektov, od tega 17 projektov študenti visokošolsko strokovnega programa, 23 projektov študenti univerzitetnega dodiplomskega študijskega programa in 12 projektov študenti podiplomskega magistrskega študijskega programa. Povzetke teh projektov smo zbrali v pričujoči zbornik, kjer so razvidne osnovne informacije, več podrobnosti pa so ekipe študentov predstavile na javni konferenci. This chapter provides a brief overview concerning the global epidemic, risk and protective factors, and possible intervention strategies of Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease, which is projected to reach global epidemic level in three to four decades, already has a huge economic and societal impact. Epidemiologic research has provided sufficient evidence supporting that lifestyle or cardiovascular risk factors in middle-aged and older adults play a critical role in the onset and progression of late-life dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, whereas active engagement in mental, social, and physical activities may postpone the onset of the dementing disorders. The community intervention studies are warranted to determine to what extent intervention strategies towards control of major lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factors and related vascular disorders as well as maintenance of an active lifestyle may help delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia syndrome.

In Disaffected Xine Yao explores the racial and sexual politics of unfeeling—affects that are not recognized as feeling—as a means of survival and refusal in nineteenth-century America. She positions unfeeling beyond sentimentalism's paradigm of universal feeling. Yao traces how works by Herman Melville, Martin R. Delany, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and Sui Sin Far engaged major sociopolitical issues in ways that resisted the weaponization of white sentimentalism against the lives of people of color. Exploring variously pathologized, racialized, queer, and gendered affective modes like unsympathetic Blackness, queer female frigidity, and Oriental inscrutability, these authors departed from the values that undergird the politics of recognition and the liberal project of inclusion. By theorizing feeling otherwise as an antisocial affect, form of dissent, and mode of care, Yao suggests that unfeeling can serve as a contemporary political strategy for people of color to survive in the face of continuing racism and white fragility. Of the 1586 lunar craters that have been named to honor scientists and philosophers, only 28 honor a woman. This book recounts briefly the story of lunar nomenclature, delves into a few misunderstood questions about the Moon, and then looks at the lives of the few women that were honored. Who were these women? This book recounts their lives, struggles, and achievements. One way or another these were remarkable women: some got a Nobel Prize, others just funded scientific projects, and yet others were female astronauts. Most readers will only know a few of them if at all, but their exemplary lives are inspiring, and will inspire some women to follow in their footsteps and encourage some men to mend their ways. Along the way it also explains some of the science related to their work, so that the book is also an attempt to enhance the public appreciation of science through these individual stories. At a time when there is still a significant gender inequality, and a loss of faith in science, the stories of the women of the moon must be evoked.

Following the 1960s, the decade's focus on consciousness-raising transformed into an array of intellectual projects far afield of movement politics. The mind's powers came to preoccupy a range of thinkers and writers: ethicists pursuing contractual theories of justice, radical ecologists interested in the paleolithic brain, cultists, and the devout of both evangelical and New Age persuasions. This book presents a boldly revisionist argument about the revival of subjectivity in postmodern American culture, connecting familiar figures within the intellectual landscape of the 1970s who share a commitment to what the book calls “neo-idealism” as a weapon in the struggle against discredited materialist and behaviorist worldviews. In a heterodox intellectual and literary history of the 1970s, the book mixes ideas from cognitive science, philosophy of mind, moral philosophy, deep ecology, political theory, science fiction, neoclassical economics, and the sociology of religion. It also delves into the decade's more esoteric branches of learning, including Scientology, anarchist theory, rapture prophesies, psychic channeling, and neo-Malthusianism. Through this investigation, the book argues that a dramatic inflation in the value of consciousness and autonomy beginning in the 1970s accompanied a growing argument about the state's inability to safeguard such values. Ultimately, the thinkers who the book analyses found alternatives to statism in conditions that would lend intellectual support to the consolidation of these concepts in the radical free market ideologies of the 1980s.

Abstract:
O uso de plantas medicinais no Brasil é uma prática comum, passada através de gerações e fruto da miscigenação do povo brasileiro. Segundo a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS), estima-se que 80% da população nos países em desenvolvimento dependam da medicina tradicional para suas necessidades básicas de saúde. No entanto, muitas plantas são usadas de forma inadequada, não levando em conta possíveis efeitos tóxicos, além da coleta ser feita de modo inadequado, podendo levar à extinção da espécie vegetal. Isso levou à criação, pelo Ministério da Saúde, do Programa Nacional de Plantas Medicinais e Fitoterápicos, o qual conta com uma série de objetivos visando: “garantir à população brasileira o acesso seguro e o uso racional de plantas medicinais e fitoterápicos, promovendo o uso sustentável e da biodiversidade, o desenvolvimento da cadeia produtiva e da indústria nacional”. Em 2009 foi divulgada a lista de “Plantas Medicinais de Interesse ao SUS”, que incluiu uma relação de 71 espécies nativas e cultivadas em pelo menos uma das regiões do território brasileiro, com o intuito de orientar estudos e pesquisas que possam subsidiar a elaboração da lista de plantas medicinais e fitoterápicos a serem disponibilizados para uso da população com segurança e eficácia comprovadas para o tratamento de determinada doença. Em 2012 teve início um projeto de longa duração desenvolvido em parceria do Laboratório de Farmacobotânica (LabFBot) da Faculdade de Farmácia da UFRJ com diversas entidades dos municípios de Magé e Guapimirim, no estado do Rio de Janeiro, por iniciativa do Comitê Gestor da Microbacia do Rio Cachoeira Grande (COGEM). O LabFBot desenvolve na região o projeto de extensão intitulado ¨Uso e cultivo racionais de plantas medicinais e plantas alimentícias não convencionais (PANC) pelos agricultores de Magé e Guapimirim, RJ. Até 2018 havia uma parceria com o Programa de Educação Tutorial (PET-Farmácia) realizado por docentes e discentes da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, sob coordenação da Profa Ana Cláudia de Macêdo Vieira. O projeto de extensão conta ainda com a parceira da EMATER-RIO, atuante nas regiões de Magé e Guapimirim, da Associação dos Pequenos Produtores Rurais da Cachoeira Grande (APPCG) e do COGEM, que envolvem os agricultores da microbacia do Rio Cachoeira Grande e a Prefeitura Municipal de Magé, através de sua Secretaria Municipal de Agricultura e Desenvolvimento. Este projeto está em desenvolvimento desde 2012 e visa a aproximação da academia à população, com trocas de informações entre extensionistas, agricultores e pesquisadores para aprimoramento dos conhecimentos técnicos e científicos deles em temas relacionados a uso e cultivo de plantas medicinais e plantas alimentícias não convencionais.

Delo v Studio III temelji na celovitem povezovanju najširših humanističnih pogledov, tehničnih znanj in veščin z umetnostjo arhitekturnega oblikovanja ter na spodbujanju zavedanja o družbeni odgovornosti arhitektov v najširšem socialnem in kulturnem kontekstu. Praktično delo na konkretnem projektu je dopolnjeno s predavanji o kompleksnosti in metodah arhitekturnega načrtovanja. Posebnost dela pri Studiu III je oblikovanje misli z maketo kot prenos idej v materialno. Za razliko od dosedanje prakse, ko smo vsako leto obravnavali eno od potencialnih lokacij ob Dravi in vanjo umeščali izbrani program, smo v letošnjem Studiu III na osnovi teh naših raziskovalnih preizkusov urbanega potenciala posameznih lokacij ob Dravi in na osnovi drugih arhitekturnih pobud (npr. UGM in MAKS) ter usmeritev novejših realizacij, kot je na primer Medicinska fakulteta, izdelali idejne zasnove za celoten prostor ob mestnem delu reke Drave od Studenške brvi do dvoetažnega Meljskega mostu. Obravnavani prostor smo razdelili na deset med seboj povezanih lokacij. Vsako lokacijo je obravnavala ena ali dve skupini s po dvema študentoma oziroma študentkama in nanjo umestila lokaciji najbolj ustrezen program, usklajen z bližnjim kontekstom in celotnim naborom vseh desetih lokacij. Rezultat smo na koncu predstavili z atraktivno skupinsko sestavljeno maketo, ki je še bolj jasno izpostavila urbani potencial tega prostora.

O livro conta a história dos principais casarões edificados em Jataí de 1880 a 1930, destacando o projeto de arquitetura de cada um deles. Como expressão da cultura, tanto o espaço edificado quanto o espaço urbano são objetos de análise ao que conceituamos como cultura de morar (JUNIOR, 2011). Entendida como uma faceta da cultura, ou um conjunto multifuncional de valores socialmente compartilhados e historicamente construídos, comportamentos, experiências, padrões sociais, elementos identitários e imagéticos que orbitam em torno do espaço privado da habitação. Uma postura que implica em considerar também os valores, usos e significados dos espaços arquitetônicos que as formas espaciais dão origem: ponto de partida à tessitura de narrativas textuais, visuais, reais ou imaginárias do lugar de morar. A partir disso, o interesse dos autores se volta para a implantação da povoação de Jataí, seu núcleo urbano inicial, no final do século XIX até 1930. Este recorte temporal se justifica por duas razões: em primeiro lugar, a evidente necessidade de registrar a ocupação espacial a partir de suas origens, compreender seu traçado e sua implantação. Em segundo lugar, estabelecer a década de 1930 como limite, se justifica em função das profundas transformações desencadeadas pela chamada revolução de 1930. No novo ambiente político desta época o estado de Goiás vivenciou uma profunda alteração com a construção de Goiânia, em 1933, e uma reorganização das zonas de influência política, social, econômica e cultural que ela representava. Uma alteração que colocaria a produção do espaço construído em outros parâmetros. Por razões políticas, culturais e sociais, a década de 1930 representou uma inflexão.

A Editora Pantanal em seu 3º Volume do E-book “Tópicos nas ciências da saúde”, com seis capítulos traz novos temas no atuar da medicina. A obra, vem a materializar o anseio da Editora Pantanal na divulgação de resultados, que contribuem de modo direto no desenvolvimento e saúde humana. No primeiro capitulo o trabalho nos apresenta uma patologia que, embora muitos pensem que não é comum, tem grande impacto em nossa população mundial. A frequência desta patologia na década de 80 - 90 foi de 2 - 4 x 10.000 habitantes, porém com estudos atuais e levando em consideração não apenas o transtorno autista, mas todos os transtornos generalizados do desenvolvimento ou TEA (sigla em inglês), nesse novo cenário as estimativas aumentam de 21 para 35 x 10.000 habitantes. Com uma intervenção comportamental intensiva precoce, terapia cognitivo-confuctual e treinamento em habilidades sociais, obteve-se que em alguns casos leves os sintomas desaparecem, razão pela qual o diagnóstico precoce e o apoio incondicional da família são necessários; tudo isso refletido em nosso primeiro tópico. Em seguida, nosso pequeno volume faz uma incursão no campo das vitaminas que, como muitos estudiosos sabem, há um total de 13 vitaminas classificadas em dois grupos, solúveis em água (8 do complexo B e vitamina C) e quatro solúveis em gordura; A; D; E e K, que desempenham um papel fundamental no nosso organismo porque participam nos processos e reações que nele ocorrem e é importante não só tomá-los na forma de comprimidos, mas também incorporá-los através de uma alimentação equilibrada, saudável e saudável, para mim sobretudo a fonte da juventude porque atrasa o envelhecimento devido à sua ação antioxidante, aqui mostramos vários deles nas suas diferentes funções. Por fim, encerramos nosso livro com a apresentação de um caso onde mostramos que não é importante apenas tratar o somático, mas fazer um diagnóstico psicossocial do indivíduo se quisermos obter bons resultados em nossa prática profissional. Agradecemos aos autores pela dedicação e os encorajamos a continuar colaborando em nosso projeto. Pensar a Educação no século XXI é um desafio intrigante. Já se fala em Educação 4.0, nomenclatura proveniente do desenvolvimento rápido e contínuo das tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TICs) e da internet que tem, cada vez mais, invadido o cotidiano das escolas e das salas de aula. Enquanto se teoriza uma Educação que, supostamente, é 4.0 e tem acompanhado as tendências digitais, ousamos problematizar que os problemas e desafios que envolvem os espaços educativos ainda são da geração 1.0. O termo Educação 1.0, do final do século XVIII, conceitua um enfoque tradicional de educação, o professor é o protagonista e o processo de ensino e aprendizagem individualizado, reservado as elites. A educação 2.0 surgiu com o intuito de preparar o homem para trabalhar nas fábricas durante o século XIX, os processos eram pautados na repetição e memorização. Em meados do século XX, a partir da 3° Revolução Industrial, surgiu a educação 3.0 que, de maneira inovadora, incorporou as novas tecnologias aos processos de ensino e aprendizagem, tratando os alunos como protagonistas da sua aprendizagem, democratização do saber. Já a educação 4.0 aparece como consequência da quarta revolução industrial, buscando atender as supostas emergências e necessidades do século, informações mais acessíveis, digitalização dos processos e diversas possibilidades de inovação1 . A obra "Desafios da educação na contemporaneidade: discursos emergentes e concepções de ensino" contém artigos que levam a pensar nesses desafios, compreendendo que eles envolvem as tecnologias digitais, mas vão bem além delas. Há desafios emergentes nos processos de ensino e aprendizagem que por ora são silenciados em detrimento de outros. Esta obra é uma das aberturas das cortinas das escolas e salas de aula visando trazer à tona temáticas que, na maioria das vezes, ainda são invisibilizadas. Tais temáticas, abordadas ao longo dos capítulos, enfocam desafios das mais diversas ordens, tais como: Formação de professores, prática docente, educação e diretos humanos, projeto político pedagógico, educação e tecnologias, educação na 1 LENGEL, J. A partir das temáticas abordadas pelos autores e pelas autoras, percebemos que ao falar dos desafios da educação na contemporaneidade e ao analisar esses desafios visando desnudar o chão dos espaços educativos, as discussões têm como objetivo central o encontro de possíveis caminhos que colaborem e motivem não apenas os profissionais da educação, mas também seus alunos e alunas. Enquanto os desafios se desenham como vielas aparentemente sem saída, caminhos bifurcados ou como o tão conhecido fundo do poço, o debate sobre eles aqui proposto tendem por ressignificálos à medida que transformam os desafios em molas propulsoras de esperança e de novas possibilidades. Problematizar e refletir sobre a educação contemporânea e seus desafios é uma forma de ser sensível ao que vivem os profissionais da educação espalhados por esse país em seu trabalho cotidiano com os alunos e as alunas. Essa sensibilidade é ainda mais urgente quando, além dos já conhecidos inúmeros desafios que assolam a educação brasileira, passamos a viver, de repente, um contexto de pandemia, a saber, a pandemia do novo coronavírus (COVID 19). Nesse contexto, as questões discutidas pelos autores, de maneira envolvente e interdisciplinar a partir de abordagens teórico-metodológicas, funcionam ainda como materiais de apoio, de colaboração e de esperança para os profissionais da educação. Falar sobre os desafios não significa esbarrar neles e estagnar. É preciso fazer, sem romantizar, o que os profissionais da educação desse país sabem fazer de melhor: Ousar, criar, redesenhar, esperançar, amar... Mesmo diante do caos. Que os desafios aqui discutidos sejam possibilidades de pensar além.
