Abstract:
To move through the environment safely, people must make effective judgments about collisions. It has been asserted that most studies of time-to-collision judgments are limited due to a lack of visual realism (Manser & Hancock, 1996). Studies that compared performance among displays which differed in realism provided mixed results. We measured judgments about whether, and when, two objects would have collided with each other. Results from simulations of scenes with colored, textured surfaces and a moving observer were mostly comparable to earlier results from simulations of black-and-white, line-drawn objects and a stationary observer (DeLucia, 1995; DeLucia & Meyer, 1999). Texture and self-motion affected performance in a restricted set of conditions and did not eliminate errors due to misleading depth cues. Increases in realism, which incur more costs and computational time, may not always be justifiable from a performance standpoint. Results have design implications for simulators and virtual reality systems.

Abstract:
The paper presents the results of studying the effect of deluvial processes on the formation of macro- and micromorphological properties of forest soils on the example of ravined biogeocenoses of Dnieper Prysamarya. Ravined forest biogeocenoses have a long history of development associated with the evolution of land cover in Postpleistocene epoch. One of the factors of soil formation in ravines is deluvial process as a natural phenomenon typical for the landscapes of the present steppes. Ravined forest soils in the catena in the upper reaches of the ravine Glyboky have been studied. They are situated on the upland part of the watershed-gulch landscape in 2 km tonorth of the Andreevka village Novomoskovsk district Dnepropetrovsk region. The methods of macromorphological and micromorphological study of genetic profiles of soils have been used. It is established that ravined forest ecosystems are subjected to intensive influence of deluvial processes, whereby, morphogenesis of ravined soil has a complex peculiar character, which results to theformation of specific morphological properties. It is revealed that the source rock for the forest chernozem on the slopes and formeadow-forest soils of the thalweg are loamy humus deluvial deposits, unlike the ordinary chernozem near the ravines formed on loess rocks. Modern deluvial deposits are the materialof surface horizons of chernozems adjacent to ravine territories. Ravines act as storage ofhumus material of steppe chernozem rendered by adjacent areas. The peculiarities of the morphological structure of the profiles of the soils indicate the intensity of involvement of deluvial material in the processes forest chernozem formation. The different effects of slope processes on the structure of the investigated soil catenahave been revealed. Ordinary chernozem near forest edges have signs of erosion of the surface horizons, while the forest soils of slopes and thalweg are characterized by superpower profile. It is found that the profile of the thalweg and forest soils tends to develop, increasing its power in the two lateral directions: down – thanks to the vertical flow of substances (lessivage, intensive movement of soil invertebrates, the development of the root system); up – the deposition of lessivage material. Deluvial processes connected with lessivage ones as theytransport the new mass of finely divided material into the body of forest soil.

Abstract:
The process of formation of gentle deluvial (dominated by sheet erosion) slopes under the influence of anthropogenic load is investigated using a deterministic balance model in a 2D formulation. It is shown that the non-linear erosion model as a diffusion equation in partial derivatives with boundary conditions makes it possible to adequately reflect the dynamics of sheet erosion. The physical aspects of mass transfer in a laminar flow are considered, taking into account the mechanisms of separation and transport of soil particles in connection with the concept of critical velocity. The evolution of the profile of a deluvial slope is investigated. The results of the numerical experiment were used to analyze the mechanism of transfer of erosion products and the formation of profiles. The concept of diffusion-balance modeling is expanded by numerical, as well as computational experiments. Taking into account the detected high adequacy of the model, it can be used to describe the evolution of deluvial slopes.

OBREGON, MORENO ANTONIO GILBERTO. Paris 1, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998PA010596.

Full text
Abstract:
Feuerbach does not advocate a simple atheism, but the unveiling of the belief which, by recognizing its foundation, looks at itself to surpass itself in view of its transitive suppression. The affirmation of atheism, if there is one, is the reflexive decision which denies the extent of its rising ; it is not enough to decree god's death to assert that everything attached to this concept may be resolved. Thus, immortality and the correlating feeling of infinity liberate themselves from the links, both mythical and theological, whose representative meaning constitutes their basis. So to discern the source which allows the unity of immortality and feeling to draw its contents reveals man to the vertigo of a direliction which, by recognizing itself as historical, exerts itself to conceive the testimony of its absoluteness ; this is where the idea of utopia draws its essential contents. Its presupposition being religion and its horizon being the human species, utopia affirms itself, reachesthe specific verification of its being, and, by so doing, recognizes its historic aspect as a process of "reification" of infinity : as consciousness. Rather than giving a decisive opinion - yes or no| - concerning the authenticity of the divine, feuerbach penetrates to the core of belief to show its own evidence : thus, it is up to the belief to decide, and this, once the road has been traveled, on the basis of its understood identity

However, my students' interest in science did not increase and may have actually decreased. Finally, my level of organization did not necessarily get better, but I did become better at identifying what I wanted my students to do, what successful completion of that task would look like, and how I would evaluate it.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to present an opening to argue for a transtheoretical and - activist fellowship with Satan and the values connected to hir. A transactivist fellows-hip with Satan builds on two primary points of contact. It is on one hand the opportu-nity to take advantage of the non-conformist, non-normative and polemical signifi-cance Satan has been attributed, especially in the history of literature, but also in the history of religion. And on the other hand this study also dwells upon how Satan as a figure has served as an expression of evilness, hatred, darkness and suffering amongst people. The questions i ask, is if there is a course that allows me to theorize for a stra-tegic collaboration between the transactivist struggle and the ideas that is connected to the satanfigure in John Miltons Paradise Lost. I also ask if there is a transtheoretical-and activist approach where Satan can function as an ally within the transactivist re-sistance. The purpose of this paper also carries on a confrontation with the notion of ”tone-policing", and love and tenderness as the only sanctioned (and praised) incenti-ves for political struggle. In this thesis I make a link between the logic that connects to Satan as an ideological basis and a non-conformist (militant), seperatist, anti-capi-talist and queer attitude in transactivist struggle. With the help of Susan Stryker's the-ory of the monsteridentity I will experiment with extracts from John Milton's Paradise Lost, where the Satan figure and the transactivist position builds on a fellowship as my analysis proceeds. To do this i use a queer-deleuzian tool as a method that focuses on textual framings within the idea of spatial relations, meaning how the actual text can and should correspond with discourses outside its territorial space. This allow me to di-sengage Satan from its original amplitude, and instead of interpreting how Satan handles hirself in Paradise Lost, i will liberate Satan from this narrative and create a relation between hir and my thesis. In this way I create an occasion, through a theore-tical approach to trans-subjectivity as comparable to the perception of the monster as a non-normative figure, to bring the transgendered monster together with the satanic monster. The ”what” that will subsequently crystallize during the analysis have the intention to tell the story about the ways in which the non-confirmative transactivist have in common with Satan. After doing this i will conclude my thesis with a discus-sion that reflects on how this fellowship has evolved in relation to the proposed politi-cal and emotional connections between the non-confomative transactivist and Satan.

Abstract:
A regular feature of eighteenth-century periodicals, travel narratives allowed magazine readers to imagine their relationship to the world outside of Britain. Via detailed accounts of a range of serialised, excerpted and abridged travel writings in the Lady’s Magazine (1770–1832), JoEllen DeLucia’s essay reveals the role mediation and magazine culture played in producing readers’ sense of women as both self-interested members of the British Empire. Reading texts such as the magazine’s serialisation of Cook’s voyages and the Embassy of Lord Macartney alongside oriental tales and exotic fashion plates, the chapter argues that, on the one hand, travel writing made the world a smaller place, while on the other, its discussions of global politics and theories of good governance, extended the parameters of the feminine sphere. In examining the complex horizontal identifications that magazine travel narratives fostered, DeLucia concludes that women’s magazines present an alternative to the well-worn scripts we have developed about women readers that revolve around the domestic and often very English novel.
