Abstract:
This thesis deals with analysis of macroenvironment of Kenya´s market. The main goal of the thesis is to find out, if the macroenvironment enables entrance for company producing condoms to Kenya´s market. Besides that the barriers which restrict the entrance to market are mentioned. The thesis mentions an influence of the barriers. The thesis uses PESTEL analysis for the indetification of the key factors which determine characteristic of the market. Using the PESTEL analysis enables to determine barriers of the entrance to Kenya´s market. On the output of PESTEL analysis is used DEMATEL method which was used for quantification of the PESTEL analysis output. Using DEMATEL method enabled to determinate influence of the particular factors of PESTEL. Because of using DEMATEL method thesis determinates political, economical and social factors as the strogest factors and it is necessary to devote them main attention. They may mean the most important barrier for entrance. Simultaneously DEMATEL determines political, social and legal factors as the factors with the biggest influence. Outcomes of this thesis provide information about macroenvironment of Kenya´s market for any company producing condoms.

The issue of sustainability, which is an increasingly important consideration in the day-to-day operations of businesses, needs to be addressed in the context of supplier selection. The use of multi-criteria approaches in decisions concerning the selection of sustainable suppliers can be a valuable approach for helping to resolve the complexity of this process. A systematic review of the literature highlighted gaps in the research in this area, such as the lack of a detailed description of multi-criteria methods, as well as a scarcity of sustainability criteria that take into account the three main perspectives (Economic, Environmental, and Social). This work describes the development and real case application of a DEMATEL (Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) and ANP (Analytic Network Process) fuzzy modeling technique for the selection of sustainable suppliers. The methodological approach used in the research was quantitative, descriptive, and empirical. The modeling and simulations were performed using MATLAB®. Incorporation of the specificities of the process of selection of sustainable suppliers makes the model a useful tool for use by both businesses and researchers concerned with the issue of sustainability. A systematic review of the published research highlights the main state-of-art methods and criteria used for the selection of green and sustainable suppliers. The model is described in a framework highlighting each step of the application. It was subsequently applied by a major glass packaging company, where the supply chain coordinator agreed to assist in the research. The outputs of the second phase of the model showed that the Economic cluster was most important and interacted with the Environmental cluster, while the Social cluster remained practically inert, without interactions with the other clusters. For the three perspectives, the three most influential criteria were as follows: cost, compliance, and quality (Economic perspective); environmental certifications/ISO 14001, reuse/recovery, and pollution control (Environmental perspective); and stakeholder rights, respect for policies, and encouragement of the development of self-sustainable recycling programs (Social perspective). Finally, a supplier was selected using the framework presented, and the criteria that most influenced the decision were highlighted. The procedure developed here offers a tool to assist businesses searching for sustainable solutions, as well as researchers in the scientific community concerned with the development of knowledge in this area.

Abstract:
Increasing population and urbanization motivates the capability of consuming more fashion goods than ever. This push creates more momentum on global companies to focus on clothing sectors. Recent advancements, including globalization and e-commerce, have made this sector as one of the top businesses worldwide. Top clothing brands made several strategies to satisfy the stakeholders to sustain in this hot, profitable business. This results in practicing more sustainable strategies, including corporate social responsibility in their clothing business throughout their operations, including the supply chain. However, most of the developed nations are consumers of textiles, which are produced and processed by any of the developing and under developing nations. Meanwhile, achieving sustainability in clothing business includes promoting sustainability in the whole chain of suppliers. Pressure from developed nations urges developing nations to promote sustainable practices in their operations. Several studies discussed the CSR related strategies in textile sectors but failed to explore their critical success factors based on their region. With this concern, this study attempts to study the critical success factors of CSR in textile industries situated in one of the developing nations, China. This study collected the critical success factors from literature and validated with the field experts; then the same were evaluated with the assistance of Chinese textile case industrial managers. Decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory tool has been used to evaluate the influential critical success factors of CSR to promote CSR through motivating those most influential success factors. These results could help the Chinese textile industrial managers to further extend strong roots on CSR implementation. Finally, this study sheds some light on future opportunities that exist within Chinese contexts with the implementation of CSR.

The convenience of traffic will be the key factor for the development of economic and international trade. Taiwan is surrounding by sea. Shipping policy is crucial to the development of national containership. Due to increased operating costs, the country containership team development is limited during recent years. The problem of flagging out has become a test of our containership team development facing seriously. The main reasons of flagging out will be the shipowners try to reduce operating costs in response to operation of the regional problems, or an attempt to reduce government control. The main motivation for this study is to explore the ship set membership system. By gathering ship domiciled system, to view the current status of the absence of the country containership industry development and explore the factors of flagging-out. We try to develop a specific response strategies for the relevant government units ship domiciled system specification develop the shipping development policy reference. DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) has been applied in many situations, such as marketing strategies, control systems, safety problems, developing the competencies of global managers and group decision making. It has been incorporated into other methods such as ANP (Analytical Network Process), MCDM (Multiple Criteria Decision Making), fuzzy set theory, etc., to vitalize these traditional methods and explore new applications for the hybrid methods. DEMATEL models the influences of components of a system with an initial direct relation matrix. Influences of components can ripple transitively to other components, which is modeled by raising the initial direct relation matrix to powers. The total influence is computed by summing up matrices of all powers based on the assumption that the matrix raising to the power of infinity would converge to zero. The current paper shows that raising the initial relation matrix to the power of infinity may not converge to zero and hence total influence may not converge. The current paper also shows that our revised DEMATEL guarantees that the initial direct-relation matrix to infinite power will converge to zero and the total influence can be obtained accordingly. The newly developed approach is illustrated with numerical examples.

Abstract:
The substantial growth in population, increasing urbanization, overload in the consumption of infrastructures and energy, environmental impacts, and investments made in technological development constitute major challenges in what concerns the management and development of cities that aim to improve the citizens’ well-being and quality of life. The concern to find a balance between these factors makes the decision-making process more difficult and, therefore, it is essential to analyze the determinants of smart cities (i.e., cities that intend to be socially involved and habitable, economically and environmentally sustainable, with technology and innovation playing a fundamental role in this regard). Considering the principles of the Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) approach, the present study aims to combine cognitive mapping techniques and the DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method, in order to develop a multicriteria model that helps managers in the decision-making process, as well as in the analysis of determinants of smart cities. The research carried out allowed for the identification of these determinants and respective cause-effect relationships, using a panel of experts with experience and knowledge on the subject under analysis. The results were validated by both the panel of experts and by the councillor responsible for mobility and municipal assignments of the Évora City Council, who certified that the developed evaluation system is a tool that supports the decision-making process in what concerns smart cities. The main advantages and limitations of the present study are also subject of analysis and discussion.

Few studies have discussed the factors affecting hotel appraisal or proposed strate-gies to help improve hotel evaluation efficiency. The purpose of this study is to address this problem, using Modified Delphi Method to develop the initial questionnaire and DEMATEL (decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory) to construct multi-criteria hotel appraisal system and finally present network relationship map (NRM) between the factors. According to opinions of the expert-appraisers, there are 4 dimensions and 12 criteria are included as the dominated factors for hotel appraisal. The NRM further illu-strates the influential relationships which determine the priority order in the hotel ap-praisal process. The dimension of “Income Capitalization Approach (discount cash flow approach)” emerges as the first priority to be considered and followed by “Cost Ap-proach”, “Appraisal premise” and “Market survey & analysis”. The same rule can be applied to the criteria in each dimension. For instance, in “Income Capitalization Ap-proach (discount cash flow approach)”, the influential order is “Total income”, “Total cost” and “Discount cash rate”, implying the appraisal consideration priority. In “Cost approach”, the priority pattern is “Maintenance”, “Building cost” and “Land cost”; in “Appraisal premise”, the order is “Client data”, “Appraisal purpose” and “Appraisal conditions”; and in “Market survey & analysis’’ the order is “Property condition”, “Supply & demand analysis” and “Neighborhood & location”. In general, this research successfully demonstrated the advantages of the novel combination of Modified Delphi Method and DEMATEL and present useful strategies for effective hotel evaluation patterns. The result thus can be useful reference for both the academic and practical fields, and especially valuable for those professionals, such as real estate appraisers, hotel developers and investors.

Abstract:
Strategic management is fundamental for organizational development. It plays a critical role in the accomplishment of business performance and, as result, in the achievement of competitive advantage. Currently, the increased use of strategic management has intentional impacts on a company’s performance and differentiation, specifically in a globalized market. From this perspective, organizational evaluation is important, as well as the development of strategic management frameworks that can guarantee the achievement of sustainable competitive advantages for organizations. One of the most well-known frameworks for organizational resource assessment is the Value, Rarity, Inimitability and Organizational-oriented (VRIO) framework. It is worth noting, however, that this tool is not without limitations (e.g., how to identify and weight resources and capabilities in the evaluation process), which have prevented progress. Hence, this dissertation aims to enhance the VRIO framework, allowing for its quantification in a transparent and robust manner. To reach this aim, the VRIO framework is combined with the DEcision-MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method, and a reallife application is carried out. The incentives and shortcomings of this structured evaluation model are also analyzed and discussed.

Because the impact of power resource shortage and the trend of environment protection in recently, the solar photovoltaic industry has became a hot industry, although Taiwan solar photovoltaic industry has expanded many years, it’s still not as good as other developed country. In the beginning, the research consulted many reference resources, and I decided to use Dr. Cheng, Cheng-Nan and Dr.Tang, Da-Chen’s “Five-Pointed Diamond Model” Model to analyze industrial competition, and I will confirm the research aspect according to our country industry develop circumstance; then I will explore Taiwan photovoltaic solar industry development factors via expert poll analysis by DEMATEL. After the interview with experts and to figure out the rationality of the data, it will give some advice to the industry for its future development in the end of the research. The result found the main impact factors are “Demand Conditions” “The Support from the Government” and “Related and supporting industries”, the impacted factors are “Factor Conditions” “ The Industry Structure and the Strength of Competition”. Finally, I realized the “Government Support” is the most important factor to let resources to invest in. Because of the references, demonstration and experts interviews, I made a conclusion as follows: 1. To force to pass” Renewable Energy Development Rules” and to set into solar industry favorable proposed law. 2. Constructing completed industry development system. 3. To build new energy national planning. 4. Constructing solar products quality control system and to verify the service of module testing. 5. Taking advantage of the China’s enormous market. 6. Environment protection has taken serious notice of global warming. IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has proved that the CO2 is one of the factors for global warming. Furthermore, the majority of this emission comes from the vehicles using petroleum fuels. For this reason, alternative fuels become a very popular issue. There are so many automakers and researchers endeavoring in alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) development. Related researches reveal that using AFVs can avoid the emission of CO2. There already have been many types of alternative fuels used in vehicles, such as electric vehicles (EVs)/ hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), fuel cell (hydrogen) vehicles, natural gas vehicles (CNG), methanol vehicles, ethanol vehicles, and bio-diesel vehicles etc. Different types of alternative fuels have different characteristics to which attention should be paid. It is difficult for users to identify which one is the best choice for them to use. The purpose of this study is to construct an evaluation model helping users making a decision with AFVs. This problem concerns the characteristics of each alternative fuel. A lot of criteria and aspects related to the alternative fuels should be considered at the same time. In this study, we try to apply Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method to deal with the importance and causal relationships among the evaluation factors of AFVs. DEMATEL method has been successfully applied in many situations, such as energy, marketing strategies, e-learning evaluation, control systems and safety problems (Chiu et al., 2006; Hori & Shimizu, 1999). Results shows the top three critical evaluation criteria are “new car cost”, “cruising range”, and “fuel efficiency”; “air pollution” is the key cause factor influencing others; and “cruising range” is the key effect factor influenced by others. It is no accident cost is the most critical factor for users. Consequently, it is suggested to automakers and researchers to carefully analyze characteristics of each alternative fuel. Fuel efficiency is not only focused by users, it also will affect the cruising range. Air pollution is what users care about, so even zero emission vehicles (ZEVs), which cost higher but have lower fuel efficiency, could be accepted. There seems to be no perfect alternative fuel vehicle, but to endeavor on ZFVs will reduce some disadvantages.

Abstract:
Open innovation is clearly taking on an increasing importance in organizations. Studying its impacts has become a challenge for everyone. Assessing the possible effects not only on performance but also on processes, time and people, is a difficult and complex task, given the different capacity of each organization to innovate. As a way to overcome this barrier, and considering the lack of studies and frameworks in the literature related to open innovation, this dissertation proposes a methodological framework that combines cognitive mapping techniques, supported by the Strategic Options Development and Analysis (SODA) approach, and the DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique. This dual methodology allows the impact that certain dynamics related to open innovation can produce within a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) to be analyzed. The information was collected from SME managers and entrepreneurs, who accepted to participate in face-to-face group meetings. The results of our framework were validated by both the panel members and a project manager at COTEC Portugal – a leading think-and-action network for advancing technology diffusion and business innovation cooperation. Contributions and limitations of our proposal are also analyzed.

This study was aimed towards three objectives. First, it was an attempt to determine the appropriate validity criterion index for both the coefficient of equilibrium and coefficient of variance basing on which the best option for the improvement of the “Dematel” theory could be sorted out, among other methods. Furthermore, the strength of the total influence matrix or secondary total influence matrix could also be compared under the same improved Dematel theory. Second, the indirect approach of using computers as a substitute for direct responses to questionnaire was manually done under pecking order coefficient equation of the LSSA method of Professor Liu Hsiang-chuan, which was adopted to avoid the trouble of sending out questionnaires and waiting for responses. Thirdly, the adjacency matrix and reachability matrix between the total influence matrix and consensus total influence matrix of different types of data was compared on the basis of The adjacency matrix and reachability matrix theory proposed by Professor Liu Hsian-chuan. The findings could be used for comparing the variance of total influence matrix and the consensus matrix for different types of data. As suggested by Professor Liu Hsiang-chuan, in the traditional “Dematel” theory, the formalization of the initial influence matrix was to allow for the convergence of the indirect influence matrix from the direct influence matrix through the infinite sequential series of the direct influence matrix. This cannot guarantee any increase of the indirect influence matrix. Indeed, the indirect influence matrix was the infinite sequential series of the direct influence matrix that made the indirect influence matrix always be greater than the direct influence matrix. The total influence matrix obtained from this manner will not be fair and will not be accurate. As such, Professor Liu Hsiang-chuan proposed a method of improvement to the converged of the Dematel theory. However, indirect matrix may also be smaller than the direct influence matrix. At this point, the converged Dematel theory cannot give a solution. This gave rise to another improved method of the Dematel theory. The combined validity index is the integration of the coefficient of equilibrium and coefficient of variance spelled out by Professor Liu. Both the coefficient of equilibrium and the coefficient of variance are preferred to be at a greater value. However, the converged Dematel theory tends to enlarge the coefficient of equilibrium and contract the coefficient of variance. Fortunately, the coefficient of equilibrium is a necessary index and is more sensitive while the coefficient of variance is a sufficient index and tends to be retardant. The combined validity index simply requires the mean value of the coefficient of equilibrium and the coefficient of variance. This study focused on the data obtained for a survey of satisfaction on three different service segments in Asia University. The findings of the experiment indicated that the equilibrium Dematel of combined validity index performed the best and the converged Dematel performed better than the traditional Dematel. The total influence matrix of the combined service satisfaction of the three segments was the consensus total influence matrix. The adjacency matrix and reachability matrix of the service satisfaction total influence matrix and the consensus total influence matrix of the segments indicated Information Division be closet, followed by Library. The General Affairs Division was farthest.

In recent years, the semiconductor manufacturing process follows Moore's Law on circuits and performance growing trend and Taiwan's IC design companies take the approach of SoC for product designs on rapidly evolving and changing needs from consumer electronics. These makes IC chip come with cheaper prices, faster time-to-market, more rich functions and fitting market requirements. Thus Taiwan IC design industry becomes a main player of global IT products and consumer IC market. After years of IC product development, the entry-level SoC products, still use the 8-bit 8051 microcontroller or 16-bit digital signal processor; mid-range and high-level SoC products, is dominated by 32-bit RISC processor architecture from foreign companies, like ARM, ARC and MIPS. There is still no original embedded processor design was born from the Taiwan IC industry in decades. In this study, we first go through relevant research reports and literatures and then take Grove’s six forces model to analyze the industrial structure of competition. By investigating information from industrial structure of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, developing status of Taiwan’s IC design industry, technology and product development of SoC and embedded systems, and market conditions of silicon intellectual property etc., to confirm major aspects of this study. I take expert questionnaires and the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method to explore the competitive advantages of developing embedded processors in Taiwan. The result found the main impact factors are “Rivalry Among Existing Competitors” and “Threat of Substitute Products or Services”, the impacted factors are “Bargaining Power of Suppliers”, “Threat of New Entrants”, “Support from Third Parties”, and “Bargaining Power of Buyers”. Finally, I realized the “Rivalry among Existing Competitors” is the most important factor to let resources to invest in. Because of the references, demonstration and experts interviews, I made a conclusion as follows: 1. Product and service quality need to be able to achieve mainstream level. 2. To have a clear and sustained progress of technology roadmaps and long-term commitment. 3. To build a complete industrial ecosystem. 4. Approaching emerging applications with appropriate product specifications. 5. To make operational and business models with full flexibility.

This paper is designed to determine the factors that appeal to the foreign students when they choose Taiwan as a study destination. Higher education has become more and more international, and its market has been growing in the past years, especially in South East Asia, where a growing number of students decide to pursue their education in other countries. To explore the factors, a questionnaire was given to international students from the north, the south and the center of the island. This study applied Fuzzy Importance-Performance Analysis (FIPA) to discover the grade of importance for each factor. The results of FIPA showed that the strongest advantage in Taiwan is “Safety”, which is very important when students decide to move abroad and Taiwan reveals to have a very high satisfaction rate. Other advantages include good access to lecturers, availability of modern facilities, and image and prestige of universities internationally. The results of Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) revealed that safety is also a very influential factor that influences many other criteria. International Orientation program is also an important influential factor as indicated in the DEMATEL results; nevertheless, the FIPA revealed that International Orientation programs need to be improved in order to meet international students’ expectations. Understanding the driving factors that make international students choose Taiwan will allow universities and decision makers to promote the recognized benefits of studying in Taiwan and work on the improving areas. By doing so Taiwan can strengthen its competitive advantages and get a larger share of the growing international higher education market.

Since Light Emitting Diode (LED) was presented to the market in 1962, its product evolution from small lighting sources has started to replace other illumination gradually. Its market acceptance has been raised in view of significant cost reduction and technology progress particularly since 2010. In addition, due to the fact that environmental protection draws more and more attention globally, the market impression on LED application has been transformed from ordinary electronic components into important power-saving products, involving such as cell phone, automobile, traffic light, street light, backlight, outdoor illumination, general illumination, etc. Besides, Taiwan has ranked itself first and second in the global LED production volume and value respectively. Embracing all above, LED illumination industry should have the potential to become an important and competitive national industry for Taiwan in a very near future, and this triggers the motivation of this research. Rooted in the diamond model, this study adopts Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and explores the causal and effect factors of the development of LED industry, for Taiwan. Some research conclusions are drawn as follows: (1) the government support influences the growth of LED illumination industry best (the most critical causal factor); (2) the related and supporting industries are also very important to entire industrial development (the second important causal factor); (3) the firm structure, strategy, and rivalry are affected by the customers (the most critical effect factor). Based on the research results, this study at last provides related policy suggestions for stakeholders in order to attain some academic and empirical benefits.

Financial industry has its influencing contribution to global economy as well as decisive role in one nation. GDP occupation in Taiwan financing industry is around 10.35% which illustrates its significance beyond description. Since 2002, Taiwan government actively pushes financing system forward to be more globalized and international since joining WTO which generates massive change in financing environment. The financing environment in Taiwan has been shifted from monopolized to be over competitive. To response the increasing competition between banks and it variation in operation, it is an significant issue to upgrade service quality and consolidate customer satisfaction,. In recent years, a few scholars are dedicated to decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) in addition with application and modification. This approach sufficiently combines expertise’s knowledge, and clarifies the cause and effect association of each variable. It will guide to direct or indirect effect on each variables. A few previous work around the issue of service quality and design strategy has been done, however, service quality is customer subjective perception orientation required to be satisfied. As a matter of fact, there is lack of discussion around the phenomenon of cause and effect relationship, priority and membership of customer demand. The case study of this paper is focus on bank service quality. It is to begin with quality function development (QFD) to transfer customers’ need as constructive base of bank service quality design. DEMATEL is to obtain the significant score of customers’ need to define customers’ voice which is centrality of customer need cause and effect association. And it is to conduct QFD to substitute significance score from traditional subjection. Quality performance questionnaire will assist survey each service quality performance of a chosen bank and then it is to graph IPA two-dimensional coordination. Decisive characteristic of bank service quality will be proceeded to propose recommendation for the purpose of achieving effective management.

Abstract In order to accommodate for the diversified society, and to phase in the mercenary system as well as to expand the recruitment for military service, the Ministry of Defense started recruiting female soldiers since 1994. For reasons to be discussed in this research, these Young and single women are highly susceptible to work stress. It’s important for us to trace down and mitigate the source of stress for these female soldiers in order to make better use of our human resources and to increase the overall efficiency of the Taiwanese Military. This research was conducted by first collecting the published literatures on female soldier’s working situations. Using the collected data we sort out a list of possible sources for stress in the military. DEMATEL containing expert’s questionnaires was given to female soldiers to identify the key factors for stress. The results showed that “Workload” was the leading factor and it impacts both “Role Ambiguity” and “Conflicts in Role”. Role Ambiguity was caused by female soldier’s confusion regarding their responsibility for the specific position. To solve this, commanders in the army should provide better training with more detailed explanations for the job for the female soldiers. “Conflicts in Role” was mainly caused by the lack of labors. In order to ameliorate this, commanders should prioritize the tasks by importance or urgency and assign them accordingly. And finally high “Workload” was mainly caused by “Unevenly Assigned Tasks”. To remedy this, commanders in the troops should carefully assess the amount of work related to each positions, and assign sub-tasks to positions with lighter workload so the works can be more evenly spread out. This study applied DEMATEL to analyze mobile App quality characteristics from the perspectives of developers and users. According to the results, users regard security as the most important quality characteristic, while functional suitability, usability and reliability are regarded as the most important quality characteristics by developers. The differences in viewpoints of users and developers may be the reason that the current mobile APP development quality has not been fully accepted by users. Therefore, developers need to rethink whether their quality priorities and considerations can meet user expectations to prevent waste of resources and resource crowding out effects.

ABSTRACT Since the mid-1980’s, computerization of surveys for psychology research has become increasingly common over years. The first academic research that used e-mail questionnaires was the study conducted by Kiesler & Sproull and published in Public Opinion Quarterly(POQ)in 1986. The traditional method of information collection was done through paper-based questionnaires completed by mail or interview. In the recent years, the web surveys have gradually replaced the telephone surveys, face-to-face interviews and mail surveys. The common applications of the web surveys include, amongst others, satisfaction survey, opinion poll identifying the level of support, or response to an event and research surveys, etc. The study focuses on the evaluation model of web survey design. Two web surveys were conducted. During the first survey, seven experts were interviewed using the fuzzy Delphi method to screen and identify the factor that affects the effectiveness of a web survey. These factors are consisted of four dimensions, convenience, speed, safety and incentive, as well as sixteen criteria. For second survey, 20 questionnaires were distributed to 20 experts, and 20 valid questionnaires were recovered. The questionnaires were intended to fulfill the purposes of information collection and to identify the importance of and causal relations among the dimensions and criteria using the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory(DEMATEL)method, thereby constructing a model of validity evaluation for the web survey design. The study then proceeds to analyze and compare the outcomes of the surveys so to allow the researcher to observe how the key factors of the web surveys influence one another and to construct a design model for web survey questionnaires. Based on such findings and experiences, the study seeks to determine the feasibility of web surveys in a group of frequent Internet users and to identify the web survey design models that increase the chances of recovering the questionnaires and representativeness of the recovered questionnaires. The results show that three factors which assert the greatest influence over a web survey design model are the “format”, “topic” and the “source of samples”. As for the dimensions, “safety” is the most powerful influencer as “speed” is the most prone to be affected. Therefore, the study concludes that survey respondents care the most about information security and personal privacy. Survey designers shall focus on improving information security and privacy protection of the surveys. Secondly, different topics create incentives for the survey respondents to fill out the questionnaires as the variety gives them a feeling of participation. In designing a web survey, system flexibility is a major factor; sufficient flexibility is required for the question answering methods. Finally, the researcher conducts a test to find out whether the online platform on which the web surveys are answered respond promptly to a survey respondent’s selection of answers. For surveyors who wish to conduct a web survey and increase the effectiveness of the survey, it is recommended that the surveyors engage in improving the safety, creating the incentives in the survey topics, increasing the survey flexibility and ensuring the prompt response of the online platform.

Abstract:
Competitiveness is crucial for assessing the use of an organization’s resources and capabilities. If used effectively and efficiently, it allows to achieve numerous competitive advantages. The level of competitiveness, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), assumes an increasing relevance as it allows to achieve not only better organizational performance but also, in many cases, the survival of the business activity. However, the assessment of competitiveness factors (CFs) is a challenging and complex endeavor, considering the multiplicity of factors influencing firm competitiveness. Thus, it seems important to develop a competitiveness evaluation model to support decision makers in this study context. To overcome the limitations of previous studies, the present study combines cognitive mapping and the DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method, proposing a more informed, complete model that allows for dynamic analysis of the cause-and-effect relationships among CFs. Based on two in-person sessions with specialists in the study area, five clusters of CFs emerged from the discussion and knowledge shared. The results obtained were validated by an external, neutral entity. Advantages and limitations of our framework are also analyzed.

“Human resources” is one of the keys to success for an enterprise to stand out in the fierce competition in addition to the operator’s strategy and leadership skills. Although it is important to seek and recruit appropriate talents, it also requires considerable cost and time to train employees into useful talents that bring benefits. Therefore, rather than only thinking about how to find good talents, enterprises should spend more time thinking about how to retain internal staff and maintain the stability of the operation. There are many reasons behind the staff’s consideration of whether or not to retain in office. If enterprises can grasp the key factors, they can put forward more effective ways to solve the problems, helping to not only increase the competitiveness of enterprises, but also bring greater benefits to the enterprises. Owing to the high quality of Taiwan’s talents, the phenomenon of international headhunting is common and even severe in Taiwan, which further causes the science and technology industry to stuck in the dilemma of brain drain. Instead of blaming the downturn of the overall environment, enterprises must ponder over the practical countermeasures that they can use to retain talents. In past relevant studies, many researchers have already put forward different research results and findings with regard to the “retention” factors. In these numerous studies and documents, this study finds that the relationships among the factors affecting employee retention are very intricate and even mutually affect each other. On this account, finding out the factors of core concepts has become the motivation and purpose of this study. After collecting and organizing relevant literature, this study concludes eight key factors: “organizational culture,” “work engagement,” “organizational commitment,” “leadership style,” “workplace friendship,” “job satisfaction,” “personal-organizational fit (P-O fit),” and “perceived organizational support.” To clarify the complex causal relationship among these key factors, this study adopts Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to understand the causal relationships and mutual influence among these retention factors. A total of 16 respondents were invited to complete the questionnaire, all of them were from a domestic vehicle design company and half have been working in the company for more than seven years. All respondents were asked to fill out the questionnaire at the same time and at the same place, assessing the mutual influence of the eight key factors in the questionnaire. The results show that the four factors of “work engagement,” “organizational commitment,” “job satisfaction” and “personal-organizational fit” are more like the result type that would be influenced by other factors. Among them, “work engagement” is the most core factor of employee retention that is influenced by all other factors. Moreover, the four factors of “organizational culture,” “leadership style,” “workplace friendship” and “perceived organizational support” are the cause type that would affect other key factors. According to the results of the study, it is suggested that enterprises must have better ways to engage their employees in work more if they want to retain talents. If enterprises wish to improve the employees’ level of work engagement, they have to start with both internal and external factors. The internal factors include improving employees’ organizational commitment, work satisfaction, and personal-organizational fit,” while the external factors include the shaping of corporate organizational culture, good leadership style of supervisors, workplace friendship between employees, and the strong organizational support for employees. In particular, the leadership style of supervisors will create the overall atmosphere within the organization, which will not only affect the inner feelings of employees but also their outer performance consequently.

The rising awareness of environmental protection around the world has forced countries to pay attention to environmental protection-related industries. In face of today's rapidly changing in environment market, environmental protection laws/regulations and sustainable development, the environmental protection equipment manufacturers must have the capability of product design and development. However, the domestic manufacturers of water treatment equipment still focus on traditional design/research capabilities, manufacturing technology and quality requirements. In order to enable decision makers to have a more comprehensive understanding in the development strategies of water treatment equipment, this study constructs an analysis model by decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and experts’ opinions. This study categorized the influencing factors into four dimensions and 18 factors. Through the experts’ opinions and the applied method, this study generated an influential network relationship map (INRM). The results show that the two highest causes are the project plan and the environmental protection laws/regulations. The design and development capabilities, manufacturing technology and quality requirements ranked 10, 15 and 13 among 18 factors, which has changed the concepts from decades ago. Finally, based on the analyzed results, we provided management implications for decision makers as a reference for relevant decisions.

Competition among hypermarkets is very fierce. “Price” is no longer the key competitive factor. The business can survive only by improving its service quality. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate the service quality improvement of hypermarkets. First of all, the weights of the service quality requirements are determined by utilizing the AHP technique. Next, the customer satisfaction and the best performance among the hypermarkets are obtained from a satisfaction questionnaire survey for each of the service quality requirements. Then, by using the QFD and DEMATEL techniques, the weights and the customer satisfactions and the best performances are converted into the weights of the operations and to the extent of performance that the operations should be enhanced. Finally, we propose an improvement priority number (IPN) to determine the priorities of improvement for operations. The numerical results of an empirical study indicate that the operations with the five highest IPNs of the hypermarket are as follows: the service of check-out, strengthen the food mark, the activities of hypermarket, the policy of hypermarket and the services of hypermarket.

First, the paper concluded the factors that influence the job satisfaction of high senior school teachers by compiling the references and comment of experts. Then summarize the factors that influence the satisfaction by integrating the former conclusion. By adopting DEMATEL and collecting questionnaire given to experts, the factors that influence the job satisfaction were analyzed. The outcome showed that the core factor is the “work itself”. It affects “working achievement”, “personal relationship”, and “supervisor leadership”. Moreover, “working achievement” is the final affected factor and it is affected by other factors. In the part of “work”, the “work arrangement” is the most influential factor. Therefore, to raise the satisfaction, the management of the senior high schools should consider about working hours, curriculum arrangement and fairness. Among the factors of working environment criteria, the equipment has the greatest impact, so the facilities in the school office and teaching equipment need to meet teacher’s needs. Among the working achievements criteria, the teachers’ interests and ability should be considered, because if the work is challenging, the work efficiency can also be improved. Working atmosphere is the greatest impact among interpersonal criteria, the school should create a high-quality, harmonious organizational atmosphere so that teachers will be proud of being part of the school. The type of leadership is most significant effect among administrative criteria, the leaders’ characteristics and leadership style can affect teachers’ satisfaction. The ATM is an automatic machine for the convenient use of customers, and is an extension of the counter business of banks, which extend the services previously li-mited to the working hours of banks, thus, 24-hour services are available. The service quality of the ATM is one of the factors valued by customers, and is an important issue in operational decision-making of banks. This study adopted two-order models, IPGA and DEMATEL developed by Lin, Chan, and Tsai (2009), and probed into the main factors affecting ATM service quality improvements, taken from the perspectives of customers and management. A questionnaire survey was conducted on adults that have used an ATM in the Taipei area, and 350 valid samples were collected. In the first stage, empirical analysis was conducted by IPGA, and results show “negative gaps” in most factors of ATM service quality. In the matrix of IPGA, 19 factors are in the quadrant of further improvement, and they are the factors of ATM service quality improvement. In the second stage, DEMATEL was applied to integrate the managerial perspective. Considering the dynamic correlation among factors, this study probed into the correlation and influential degree of 19 factors for improvements. Results showed that the order of factors for improvement are as follows, “to immediately improve customers’ opinions”, “to shorten waiting time for service”, and “to provide service upon commitment”, which are the current factors of ATM service quality improvement for banks.

The demand for enterprise to use dispatched employees service is getting increasing. The main reason is that by using such service, enterprise can efficiently cut down the cost and advance competitiveness. However, the unstable quality and high turn-over rate of dispatched employees causes enterprise to spend much more time and money to manage such dispatched employees. This research is to help the company that is about to use dispatched employees service establish a model of selection and estimation, which can be applied by enterprise to greatly employ dispatched employees. In addition to candidates’ characteristics and professional abilities, there are many other factors of consideration during process of selection. By means of literature bibliography and expert interview, this research generalizes three main evaluation points (working attitude, personal characteristic, and professionalism) and thirteen criterions. Through surveys of experts and decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), the causal relationship of norms can be analyzed and evaluated so as to build the critical selection factors of dispatched employees, and further enable enterprise or recruiting to sift the most appropriate dispatched employees from the candidates in the shortest timeframe. This research results showed that teamwork, initiative, communication skills, Problem-solving skills as the key to dispatched employees selecting assessment factors, the Four pre-assessments are very importance factors, therefore, it will directly affect the consideration of other factors, and it can help in dispatched employees selecting to provide reference in future.
