Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to enhance the capability in managing the maintenance of the transportation process from a quarry to a crushing plant, measured by the availability value and the process capability value. Design/methodology/approach The maintenance management plan consists of plans for three levels of management: strategy, tactical and operational maintenance plans. The Deming cycle is a continuous improvement tool use for controlling and monitoring activities of the plans. There are three Deming cycles according to these plans, the first of which involves the improvement of machine performance and investment evaluation. The second involves the improvement of plans, schedule, and activities of preventive maintenance including autonomous maintenance. The third is for human resource development on maintenance works. Moreover, the feedback of a prior round of each cycle comes early to detect abnormalities that provide better capability in maintenance. Findings Three Deming cycles can use for enhancing the maintenance management. The parameters are availability (A) of machines and the capability process (Cpk) of the transportation process. The results of this research state that the availability value of machines increases to 80-92 percent while the process capability value increases to 0.56. Practical implications The maintenance management, especially strategic plan, tactical plan and operational plan via the Deming cycle, can be implemented in other medium-sized industries with limited technology and personnel. It was found that the implementation of the plans has continued to progress with the Deming cycle. Originality/value This paper proposes how to successfully implement the maintenance management for medium-sized industries with limited technology and personnel. The maintenance management of three levels is carried out simultaneously by using the Deming cycle. This work has proven to be successful which can be expressed in the availability and the capability process values.

Abstract:
AbstractFew empirical studies have previously reported on the implementation of takt planning and utilizing Deming cycles (PDCA) to control construction workflows continuously. This paper presents a case study from the offshore renewable industry, closely related to construction. The paper aims to develop and evaluate a conceptual model combining takt planning and the Deming cycle within the offshore wind construction environment. The conceptual model has through interactions with construction experts been modified for a visual board implementation, covering two alternative processes with a fixed number of technicians per performing team. The knowledge base for the conceptual model is based on Takt planning implementation from the lean construction community and PDCA implementation from the lean production community. The main contribution of this paper is the development and evaluation of the conceptual model combining takt planning and the Deming cycle in a construction environment. This conceptual model has potential implications in the construction and refurbishment industry.

Abstract:
This work is focused on effectiveness of adopting the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle model, also known as Deming cycle, for an analytical laboratory management. It is not uncommon for university laboratories, unlike those of private companies, to register problems and losses in the management of materials, supplies and quality of service, especially externally. The PDCA cycle is closely associated with the planning, implementation, control and continuous improvement of the processes. In this context, the Deming cycle method finds a simple and informal application in order to make small modifications and improvements to the entire Radon gas activity concentrations measurement procedure. Attention is paid to most important topics as management of equipment and materials, record maintenance, sample analysis and risk communication. The results recorded were positive in terms of material savings, job optimization, quality of results and organization of internal processes.

Abstract:
There are many different tools and methodologies in the field of human factors for user-centered design. Similarly, other fields have tools and methodologies that enable practitioners in those fields to perform their work. Although these tools may be used most productively within their specific fields, they might contain elements that lend themselves to being applied in other domain areas. The field of quality engineering has been around for a while and has many useful tools. The similarity in the goals of the fields of human factors engineering and quality engineering suggests that there could be certain methodologies and tools in the area of quality engineering that, practitioners of human factors might find useful and applicable to the development of products and services from a user-centered perspective. This paper explores the application of user-centered design in the context of the Deming Cycle to the development of a server computer in an actual organization. It also provides examples of actual issues that were identified during the “check” phase of the Deming Cycle, and describes the actions that were performed to address these issues.

Abstract:
Purpose – The evaluation of management systems is usually based on a series of assumptions which are never questioned. The purpose of this paper is to focus on two of these assumptions, in order to further develop a quantitative model to evaluate metrological management in companies, based on the ISO 10012:2003 standard. Design/methodology/approach – First, the paper uses structural equations to identify the underlying relations between the different variables of the model and conclude that it follows the typical continuous improvement cycle formulated by Deming. And second, the paper processes the opinion of experts using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) techniques in order to prove that not all the variables included in the model are equally relevant in metrological management. Findings – The first SME analysis validates the model itself and its integration with the other management schemes in the company, all based on the Deming cycle. The second AHP analysis leads to a reformulation of the model, assigning weights to the different variables and providing better guidelines for companies to improve their metrological management. Originality/value – This constitutes a development of the management guidelines contained in the ISO 10012:2003 standard for metrological management, establishing the appropriate evaluation procedures.

Abstract:
Digitalization provides an increase in the efficiency of production management, and also opens up wide opportunities for the formation of models of management decisions using predictive technologies. Digital technologies systematize and combine information flows of different origins. Thus, a predictive model of strategic and tactical production management is created. A condition for the successful digital transformation of economic sectors is the development of a set of measures for the technical re-equipment of enterprises. This article proposes an integrated controlling model based on the concept of continuous improvement of PDCA processes. The PDCA cycle model is adapted to the process of technical re-equipment of the enterprise and is integrated with the controlling mechanism based on the process approach. Such integration will ensure an increase in the controllability of the technical re-equipment process, improve the coordination of personnel actions, and create effective feedback mechanisms. The proposed model will increase the validity and efficiency of management decisions.

Abstract:
Purpose The frequent and increasingly potent cyber-attacks because of lack of an optimal mix of technical as well as non-technical IT controls has led to increased adoption of security governance controls by organizations. The purpose of this paper, thus, is to construct and empirically validate an information security governance (ISG) process model through the plan–do–check–act (PDCA) cycle model of Deming. Design/methodology/approach This descriptive research using an interpretive paradigm follows a qualitative methodology using expert interviews of five respondents working in the ISG domain in United Arab Emirates (UAE) to validate the theoretical model. Findings The findings of this paper suggest the primacy of the PDCA Deming cycle for initiating ISG through a risk-based approach assisted by industry-wide best practices in ISG. Regarding selection of ISG frameworks, respondents preferred to have ISO 27K supported by NIST as the core framework with other relevant ISG frameworks/standards forming the peripheral layer. The implementation focus of the ISG model is on mapping ISO 27K/NIST IT controls relevant IT controls selected from ISG frameworks from a horizontal and vertical perspective. Respondents asserted the automation of measurement and control mechanism through automation to assist in the feedback loop of the PDCA cycle. Originality/value The validated model helps academics and practitioners gain insight into the methodology of the phased implementation of an information systems governance process through the PDCA model, as well as the positioning of ITG and ITG frameworks in ISG. Practitioners can glean valuable insights from the empirical section of the research where experts detail the success factors, the sequential steps and justification of these factors in the ISG implementation process.

Abstract:
Background: ‘Waiting’ can be frustrating for anyone especially when it comes to healthcare. The Institute of Medicine advocates changes to improve the quality of the health care delivery system in the United States.Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the factors contributing to increased patient wait times in selected wound care patients. The question guiding this project is-in selected wound care patients who received treatment between September1-December 31, 2013; are factors contributing to prolonged wait times related to treatment-related diagnosis, providers, and clinicians?Method: After institutional review board approval, retrospective charts review was conducted. 300 charts were randomly selected from the electronic health record (EHR) database at a local hospital wound care clinic. 120 charts met the inclusive criteria and were analyzed using ANOVA and SPSS version 22. The Deming cycle for quality improvement was adopted as the framework for practice review and changes.Result: Among all the factors examined, Treatment diagnosis accounted for 4% of the variance (p = 0.416); Providers 1% (p = 0.208); and Clinicians 8% (p = 0.195). Though clinicians had the highest variance, it was not a significant factor for patient wait times. The Deming cycle helps to prioritize and improve communication by creating a chart for effective patient flow through the clinic to reduce wait time. Conclusion: Correcting and improving wait times has the potential for increasing timely access and patient satisfaction. Clinicians and providers are not significant factors contributing to wait times. Wait time should be given priority and be regularly reviewed as part of the quality improvement plan within any organization.

Abstract:
The article considers the application of the system approach for constructing informational support for the life cycle of the production of medicinal products. The principal difficulties of creating a single informational system of the entire life cycle are considered in this article. A brief analysis of the information and computer support of individual links in the life cycle is given. Particular attention is paid to the use of a systematic approach to the creation of information support for the pharmaceutical development of medicines. The principle of QbD - “Quality planned for development” - was taken as a basis. For the implementation the QbD principle on the basis of the system approach, it is proposed to use the Shewhart-Deming iteration cycle to create an information support for a sustainable search for the optimal version (the program) of the conducted studies. The possibility of combining the PDCA cycle and the methodology of the system approach is shown. On its basis, system-theoretic multiple models of nformation support for pharmaceutical development in the graphic-analytical nomination were constructed. The method of applying the criterial approach for the formation of global and local criteria for managing research and the construction of system management models in the Melentiev’s brackets nomination are presented. The information modeling of the stage of pharmaceutical development has been carried out. Functional models have been constructed in the IDEF0 nomination.

Abstract:
The article highlights the methodological basis of the higher education quality management system. The problems of quality management in modern scientific research have been revealed. The analysis of the competitive advantages of priorities in the industry and the provision of services in the field of higher education has been carried out. The comprehensive quality management (TQM) as a methodological basis for the quality of higher education has been analyzed in detail. The main tasks that TQM should solve, a set of methodological tools that should accompany it, and its basic principles have been covered. The components of the overall quality management have been considered in the context of the synergetic approach. The relevance of the Deming cycle to the functioning of the quality management system of higher education has been proved. The principles of the use of the Deming cycle and the peculiarities of its implementation in the quality management system in the field of higher education have been presented. It has been proved that the application of the basic principles and components of the overall quality management (TCM) to the development of the quality management system of higher education, in particular through the introduction of innovations into the educational process, enables a continuous quality planning, quality management, a continuous quality control and its improvement in the field of higher education. The higher education quality management system has been highlighted in the context of the concept and main provisions of the systemic and synergistic approaches. It has been proved that the interpretation of the quality management system as an open, non-linear system capable of self-organization, leads to the advantages of TQM over traditional quality management. A comparative analysis of the open system of quality management based on TQM and the traditional quality management system of higher education has been done. It has been proved that the practical implementation of the quality management system will positively affect the organizational, market and financial strategy for the formation of long-term competitive advantages in the field of higher education.

Abstract:
The suggested cycle of project management maturity model generally include phases of evaluation, planning, improvement and finally cycle repeat which is largely based on a cycle known as Deming or PDCA. “Improvement Planning Phase” is the most important phase requiring development among these models that it is not discussed much. The major criteria for prioritization and planning in this phase were investigated in a research by authors. At first, the literature of subject is reviewed, by doing a series of interviews with project management consultants then prioritization criteria is identified, and eventually it is continued with more analysis on each of these criteria by distributing the questionnaire. The most significant criteria can be mentioned as current maturity level, desired maturity level for each process, relative balance between maturity levels of different processes, relations (predecessor & successor) between processes, the impact of each process on success, resources and organizational effort required for implementation, the role of organization (employer/contractor) and the acceptance of organization in different processes. Finally, according to the criteria a model was developed for “improvement planning phase”. A model is regarded as an improvable point in these models if it pays attentions to all criteria in addition to the relative importance of each criterion and importance of each process compared to each criterion in form of a specific procedure.

Abstract:
The main factors of economic competition are considered, namely: people, time, money and quality. The ability to manage these factors through specific project management tools is reflected. The practical significance of each of the factors of economic competition is emphasized and the appropriate project management tool for the management of each of the factors on the example of companies in various sectors of the economy, based on research results or statistics. In particular, when considering the factor of economic competition "people", it is recommended to pay special attention to their role in improving the effectiveness of strategies implementation and changing the goal as a key quintessence of the organization, and for the development of this factor improved stakeholder assessment process is proposed, which is often used in project management to increase its competitiveness. Another tool in people management is analyzed - SCRUM teams, which have become especially popular globally. Research data on the level of their use in various areas of management are presented. To control the time parameter of economic competition, it is recommended to pay attention to the SMART technique, according to which the goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and limited in time. The importance of the "time" factor in the competitive environment is demonstrated by the example of postal companies and compared their level of competitive advantage according to this criterion, as well as those companies that responded quickly to restrictive measures during the Covid-19 pandemic and changed their priority projects to those that are more urgent today. Regarding the "quality" factor, analyzing the world's achievements, attention was paid to the effectiveness of using 14 principles of E. Deming, which still remain relevant. The "costs" factor is governed by classical and further tools such as budgeting and the popular E. Deming cycle. It is concluded that the use of various project management tools in the field of economic competition to increase the positive impact of its factors allows ensuring the desired level of competitiveness of the organization of any field of activity and at any stage of its life cycle. These tools are easy to use, versatile and practical.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to selecting the methods of finding the cause-effect relationships in simulating the system “quality education” and to determining the factors influencing the quality of education in the socioeconomic development of both the university and education stakeholders. The rationale for selecting the tools for studying cause-and-effect relationships in modelling the system is formulated. It is shown that for the system “quality of education” it is possible to use analysis tools that were previously inherent only in technical systems. An integrated approach to assessment using the Pareto method, Ishikawa method, cycle and Deming principles is proposed. Each stage of studying cause-and-effect relationships is considered; the relationship between the stages and the tools used is shown. The consistent application of these tools for the “quality of education” system has not yet been implemented, which determines the novelty of this work. As a result of implementing such a complex algorithm, the system approaches the external quality assessment in its optimal state with a clearly expressed optimization criterion and methods of achieving it.

In the paper, the author attempts to identify the components and a course of the decision-making process in the area of environmental protection. Simultaneously, he pays attention to its conditions and context. The issues related to environmental protection are presented in a systemic approach with an emphasis on their practical nature. It is due to the necessity of decision making and a specific scheme of conduct. The author constructs such a scheme referring to a control system (in the context of a decision-making problems-solving) proposed by Marian Mazur and presented in the Deming cycle. At the same time, he points to the guidelines and characters of the efficient operation, whereby the broadly understood decision-making process becomes more efficient and more effective. He also pays special attention to the optimization stage including the selection of a precise (the most efficient and the most effective) action meaning a decision. The choice mentioned entails necessity of including certain criteria. Thus, it is disclosed that a decision-making process depends on the defined set of values.

Abstract:
The article considers the environmental economic model of risk management and the costs associated with them. In the field of eco-friendly construction and labor safety, it is customary to allocate occupational hazards and hazards, expressed by quantitative or qualitative parameters of occupational risk. Risk management or environmental risk means the recognition and analysis of risks, the development and implementation of management decisions to reduce the likelihood of adverse situations, as well as the possible reduction of material or other losses. Risk management helps to get out of the zone of uncertainty into a situation with more or less predictable results. The methodology for applying the environmental economic model under consideration is a cyclic order of performing interrelated practical actions known as the Deming-Shewhart cycle, which is inextricably linked to the process approach and the quality management system. Synthesis of the principles of the quality management system and mechanisms for managing environmental risks and costs ensures high adaptability to any external and internal stress situations, reveals professional risks in a timely manner, optimizes processes and, as a result, reduces costs.

Abstract:
The article attempts to demonstrate the role of decision-making process in actions for sustainable development implemented as part of environmental protection, which is viewed here in a systemic way. The article presents the definition of a system and its surroundings (environment), and points out that environmental protection can be described in this systemic perspective both in general and specific terms. This makes it possible to indicate the scheme and structure of decision-making process. The article examines the possibility of applying Mazur’s control system for designing a scheme of actions that would be adequate for environmental protection, with emphasis placed on the optimisation stage. The author shows that the system developed by Mazur can be used in the PDCA methodology, which is based on the Deming cycle and included in the ISO 14001 standard. As a result, the potential of the systemic approach to environmental protection is shown and it is explained how to move from this approach to a broader strategy for environmental protection and ultimately, to the implementation of sustainable development goals.

Abstract:
The Internet-of-Things (IoT) introduces several technical and managerial challenges when it comes to the use of data generated and exchanged by and between various Smart, Connected Products (SCPs) that are part of an IoT system (i.e., physical, intelligent devices with sensors and actuators). Added to the volume and the heterogeneous exchange and consumption of data, it is paramount to assure that data quality levels are maintained in every step of the data chain/lifecycle. Otherwise, the system may fail to meet its expected function. While Data Quality (DQ) is a mature field, existing solutions are highly heterogeneous. Therefore, we propose that companies, developers and vendors should align their data quality management mechanisms and artefacts with well-known best practices and standards, as for example, those provided by ISO 8000-61. This standard enables a process-approach to data quality management, overcoming the difficulties of isolated data quality activities. This paper introduces DAQUA-MASS, a methodology based on ISO 8000-61 for data quality management in sensor networks. The methodology consists of four steps according to the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle by Deming.

Abstract:
A very extensive academic debate is currently ongoing regarding the managerial decision to adopt an environmental management system compliant with ISO 14001 or Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), and the respective effectiveness of the two metastandards. According to the institutional theory, the adoption of metastandards is driven by the need for social legitimacy, thus generating isomorphism among firms. The few existing studies on the internalization of these standards requirements have considered only specific aspects of the management system, such as the use of operational procedures in daily practices or employee involvement. To fill this gap, we investigated the level of internalization of EMAS requirements, taking into account all the key elements of the Deming Cycle. Using data from 224 questionnaires from EMAS organizations, we tested whether EMAS adopters with a higher internalization of its requirements (a) have better environmental performance and (b) are more motivated to make environmental investments. Our results clearly show that opting for a metastandard does not necessarily lead to homogenous behaviors among adopters. However, the level of internalization of its requirements both in terms of the strategies and daily operational procedures is a key determinant in achieving a real improvement in performance.

Abstract:
The article describes the process of project portfolio management with an emphasis on financial companies, which are managed on the basis of a process approach. Over the past few years, many scientific papers have been published on project portfolio management and process management. However, having studied each of the two fundamentally different approaches, the need for further research and development of universal methods and models of project portfolio management in financial companies whose activities are based on process management is described. The concept is based on the improvement of the Shewhart-Deming cycle "PDCA " and the combination of the best, to date, practices in project portfolio management. The concept is a cyclical process of project portfolio management, which has annual and quarterly duration. Thus, formed a cyclical process, possible for universal application by financial companies, which is of practical importance for the further development of the concept. The article describes the key advantages of process and project management based on the results of research in recent years. The results of research of other domestic and foreign scientists and experts who study the issues of process management and project portfolio are presented. The description of the concept formulates the life cycle of portfolio management of projects and programs in combination with the cycle "PDCA" and describes the requirements for the portfolio of it and its components, identifies possible key indicators of the process. The importance of decision-making based on the results of monitoring process indicators is noted. The opinion on the need for further development of the concept and search for solutions that will make effective decisions on the authorization of potential components of the portfolio without human risk, using new technologies of data analysis and processing. which should be studied in more detail and conclusions about its effectiveness should be formed based on the results of its testing in a real environment based on the analysis of data obtained within the monitoring of process indicators.

Abstract:
The analysis of existing methods for calculating concrete compositions was carried out. The characteristics and sequence of the calculation-experimental and experimental-calculation methods for the selection of concrete compositions are provided. The advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods are described. These methods are generalized by the general systemic cycle PDCA (Deming cycle), which is determined by the sequence of actions: P (plan) ‒ D (do) ‒ C (check) ‒ A (Action). It was established that for calculating the compositions of the cellular method there is no universal method, which would ensure the achievement of the required strength and average density at the same time. Based on the above, the aim of the thesis was formulated. The aim of the thesis is to develop a method for calculating the composition of cellular concrete, based on experimental-statistical models, which would ensure the production of concrete with the required properties while minimizing the cost of raw materials. A calculation algorithm, a block diagram and a computer program for designing cellular concrete compositions based on experimental-statistical modeling were developed. Using the example of the specified block diagram for calculating concrete compositions, the sequence of calculations is described in detail. The essence of the calculations is that the three-factor mathematical model of the property parameter of cellular concrete, which is supposed to be guaranteed, leads to a second order equation. After that, the roots of the equation are determined. They are substituted into a mathematical model and the composition of concrete is determined in natural values of variable factors. After that, the cost of the composition is determined, which is entered into the data array. Then one of the factors changes, according to the set step and the cycle repeats. At the last stage, the formed data array is processed and the composition with the minimum cost of materials is determined. Testing of the developed software was carried out by processing and calculating a three factor experiment. As a result, the composition of cellular concrete which provides the required strength of foam concrete with a minimum cost of materials, was determined.

<p>The problem of academic dishonesty is a common problem in academia, but it is a serious problem that needs to be solved. Academic dishonesty, as the opposite of academic integrity, is the condition where students carryout their academic work (i.e., assignments and tests) dishonestly. From a Christian perspective, when students truly know Christ and have integrity in their lives, problems like academic dishonesty should not exist because students are supposed to live out their Christian values. In the brokenness of this world, these problems still happen even in Christian academic institutions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors causing academic dishonesty and other problems resulting from academic dishonesty, determine how to deal with acts of academic dishonesty, and suggest some ways to prevent academic dishonesty. To deal with academic dishonesty, the authors suggest some ways that are adapted from the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) theory, also known as The Deming Cycle. Abstract:
AbstractAnalysis of working conditions in terms of ergonomics is an increasingly popular topic among industrial enterprises. This is primarily due to the development of departments responsible for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, but also awareness of the impact of working conditions on maintaining safety and maintaining the rhythm of work. Care for working conditions translates into the possibility of maintaining the level of activities performed, which indirectly affects the quality of final products. Conducting activities in the field of shaping ergonomic working conditions in the context of continuous improvement based on the Deming cycle and the principles of conceptual ergonomics seem to be a key approach to care for work safety. Treating this process as a continuous and looped process gives you the ability to react quickly and predict adverse effects. However, constant control, observation, and analysis of the possibilities of implementing improvement solutions is important. The purpose of the article is to compare ergonomic working conditions at selected work stations with the assumptions and plans developed before launching the assembly line. The research included a comparative analysis of results in the form of ergonomic score obtained from TiCon software, based on MTM, UAS, and EAWS methods. The research was carried out at the turn of 2016-2020 in an automotive company dealing in the production of passenger car drive system components.

Abstract:
The systemic perspective on environmental action adopted in the paper, allows in this thematic area, issues related to the decision-making process. Due to the current crisis affecting human-environment relationships, these issues call for special attention and specific solutions. Against this backdrop, the paper draws on selected patterns, which constitute a point of reference in the formulation of the decision-making process, namely, the Deming Cycle, and the control system worked out by Marian Mazur. Among the manifold determinants of the decision-making process, special emphasis is put on the anthropological one, with reference to the approach proposed by Michał Gierycz. In turn, the idea of oikophilia, as presented by Roger Scruton, has been used as an exemplification of the discussed issues. More specifically, an attempt has been made to determine the influence of the adopted anthropological perspective on the shape and course of the decision-making process, which is the aim of the study. The paper analyses further how a defined profile of the performer, influences the structure and course of the decision-making process in environmental protection. The conducted analyses enable the formulation of a postulate, in order that the adopted vision of the decision-maker, should be treated as a point of reference in the design and construction of a methodology for environmental protection.

Let us name this as “Uni-economics.” Many scientists have found that sunspots affect human behavior. Some research findings even relate the 11-year periodic cycle to war and peace of mankind. It is also widely known in the medical profession that sunspot radiation actually affects our human body. With all these evidence in mind, the purpose of this paper is to investigate how sunspot activities can affect business growth since 1960s when the global economy was building up fast since the Second World War. Design/methodology/approach – The econometrics methodology deployed is in three steps. First, time series techniques were deployed to track down the changes of Sunspot Counts over the last 48 years on the world’s four main financial indices, i.e., S & P, FTSE, Nikkei and HSI. Second, the long run function of a particular stock price index could be specified as a natural logarithm transformation function. Finally, Granger’s co-integration methodology is deployed to test the equilibrium relationships. Findings – This paper has harnessed a set of system and process that can ensure the long-term productivity and business growth of firms in this contemporary business world. It is predicted with 80 percent confidence that the next property depression in some affluent cities will happen in 2014/2015, with the global financial tsunami coming in 2019. Originality/value – More important is how organizations can make use of the trade-wind and avoid the counter-wind from the Uni-economics phenomena for their quality, productivity and business growth, in accordance to the Deming Cycle. As recalled from the previous two oil crisis (around 1975, 1986) and the two financial tsunami (1997 and 2008), 40-year-old organizations that can still survive today must have done something good, despite all these turmoil confronting them.
