Transportation mode shift programs do not target specific individuals. Therefore, they are less effective in terms of facilitating mode shifts among existing single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) users. I have analysed the vowels /i, ɪ, ɛ, æ, ʌ, u, ʊ, ɔ, ɑ/ across multiple regions in the state of Michigan. By organizing them by demographics of age, region, population-density, and sex, I identified that the Northern Cities Vowel Shift (NCS) is reversing as indicated in other areas of the Inland North, but its distribution among the demographic categories and the mechanism of reversal are inconsistent across Michigan and the rest of the Inland North. On account of this, I propose that we are not observing a “reversal” of the NCS, but a series of “counter-shifts.”

Nucleotide variations in two chloroplast DNA spacers were compared with trace Ceriops propagule dispersal routes and demographic history. The MTE region of southwest Australia is a renowned plant biodiversity hotspot and has experienced significant warming and drying over the past 40 years. This chapter places evolutionary demography in the history of population thought, and more particularly in relations between demography and evolutionary population biology. Darwin conceived evolution as a dynamics of variation arising from the behaviour of populations at intra- and inter-species levels. While Malthus’s principle of population was an important early stimulus, Darwin resolved the core problem in evolution -- how mechanisms of variation combine to produce divergence of character -- by analogy to Smith’s account of the division of labour. Abstract:
Supporting an ageing population is a globally recognised challenge (United Nations, 2020; World Health Organization, 2023). In the next ten years, the healthcare sector in Aotearoa New Zealand will confront this significant issue as the number of older adults markedly increases (Stats NZ, 2020). By 2036 over a quarter of the population of New Zealand will be over 65 years old (Te Pou o te Whakaaro Nui, 2019.) This demographic shift warrants significant attention because of increasing longevity and the number of older adults that will be living with complex or multiple diagnoses requiring suppo

Abstract:
This working paper sheds light on the ongoing transformations of the global order and the growing diversification of international relations. It presents and analyses the major trends and drivers that will shape international relations and international security in the decades ahead, and their possible impact on the European Union’s security and its external action. It argues that a gravitational shift of world affairs, which move from West to East, is underpinned by the long-term geoeconomic, geopolitical and normative rise of the Indo-Pacific Region and, above all, the rise of China. Asia, home to 60% of the world population, exhibits diverse demographic profiles. Proactive policies are needed to manage and take full advantage of changing age structures, explain Dr. Grace T. Cruz and Dr. Elma P. Laguna in the P-Insights report Confronting Asia’s Challenging Demographic Realities. Citing examples from APO members and others, they analyze multifaceted approaches to demographic shifts to improve productivity and prosperity.

Abstract:
Digital learning platforms are beginning to become open to research. Specifically, in our work in SEERNet, developers are extending five platforms, each used in either K-12 or higher education by more than 100,000 users, to enable third-party researchers to explore, develop, and test improvements. SEERNet seeks to enable equity-relevant research aligned with the IES Standards for Excellence in Education Research (SEER) principles. It also seeks to support research that is more agile (or rapid), is more open, and scales from research to impacts on practice. We review the emerging tensions among

Abstract:
Political discontent has been rising in many Western democracies, often linked to economic insecurities, spatial inequalities, and demographic shifts. While the Nordic countries generally maintain high levels of trust in institutions, growing rural-urban divides may contribute to dissatisfaction, particularly in areas facing economic stagnation or demographic imbalances. This project synthesis examines spatial disparities across the Nordic Region and their association with electoral behaviour, particularly voter turnout and support for populist parties.

Abstract:
Many Nordic municipalities are experiencing population decline, ageing, and uneven demographic trends, creating challenges for economic sustainability, service provision, and infrastructure development. While growth has traditionally been the policy focus, these shifts require a different approach. Smart adaptation offers a way to rethink resource allocation, adjust services, and foster innovation to build more resilient communities. This policy brief explores how policymakers and planners can develop adaptive strategies to manage demographic change effectively. It highlights key principles of

Abstract:
This study examines how financial aid shapes post-secondary enrollment and persistence among senior high school graduates, challenging assumptions in traditional human capital theory. While the theory posits that reducing financial barriers increases participation, findings suggest a more complex process. Drawing on survey data from the Batch 2024 graduates in Cagayan Valley, the study traces student trajectories across three points: college application (Wave 1), first-semester enrollment (Wave 2), and second-semester persistence (Wave 3). Guided by St. John’s (1992) framework, the analysis em

Recognition of the need to limit climate change has led countries to sign up to concerted efforts to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These efforts culminated in the ratification of the Paris Agreement by Ireland and 196 other countries in 2015. This agreement, and the subsequent Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act of 2021, commit Ireland to a GHG emissions reduction goal of at least 55 per cent compared to 1990 levels by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. These commitments to reduce GHG emissions through various Climate Action Plans will have considerable economic and soci
