Through more than five years of extensive, participatory research the writer became a fully integrated member of the World of Warcraft community he set out to study. By actually living the grounded practices that constitute the everyday life he concludes that the mundane, often repetitive practice has very little to do with the cyber-utopian claim that one can flee the body and become who they want on the Internet. Instead this doctoral thesis argues that the constant transitions of the borders between offline and online, virtual and real, body and avatar, play and work, player and producer are best described with the concept of leakage. Using leakage to describe the perforated borders that surrounds the game not only allows an understanding of World of Warcraft as a powerful site for production of meaning and culture but also places it far from the traditional understandings of separated fun, play and games. Play as an activity has traditionally been described with three intrinsic features: it is separable from everyday life, in particular from work; it is safe, meaning that it isn’t productive nor does it carry consequence and finally that play is pleasurable or fun. World of Warcraft doesn’t easily admit to these features and should not be understood as neither innocent utopia nor as a devoured mimesis, but rather as an expansion of the life space where players repeatedly and deliberately stretch beyond the producer’s intentions and create a world consisting of work, unwritten social norms, creativity and friendship. Players are social laborers that produce the core of what makes World of Warcraft what it is: a serious game.

Based on 30 years of work experience in TV and film production, I have made a phenomenological analysis of my perception of meaning in work - how it arises and how it is undermined. The story starts in my experience of early professional film making in the 1980's and describes how a change to work in TV production required the development of a new professional identity. 

The text also illustrates how as a female director I have managed my role in a male dominated and structured work environment. Being defined as an exception from the male norm has pushed me towards femininist reflection and the need to redefine my own work role - the generally accepted view having felt uncomfortable. 

An analysis of structural change in TV and film production shows how market pressures and ways of thought have increasingly invaded cultural endeavour. Professional spheres of influence are weakened, while developments in the media are characterised by a commercialism which encroaches more and more upon artistic, spiritual and moral values. This attitude, where quality is in retreat, has transformedprogramme makers from creative originators into becoming suppliers of raw material in a factory- like process geared to produce great volume at low cost.

The aim of this essay is to show how changes in society and in TV and film making have affected my perception of my work. Structural transformation in the media has circumscribed the scope for creative play as an important source of energy and inspiration in work and it has eroded my feeling that work is personally meaningful.

 

Den allvarsamma leken (1912) by Hjalmar Söderberg has been regarded as one of the greatest love novels of Swedish literature. The story about Arvid Stjärnblom and Lydia Stille and their extramarital love is marked by timeless universality.

In this essay, I will examine this notion of love as a prediscursive value, by means pro¬vided by foremost poststructuralist theory. With Derrida’s conception of deconstruction, the analysis will reveal the constructedness of the true love in Söderbergs novel. Examinating typi¬cal logocentric binarisms the essay will show that the notion of true love is constituting a term in an oppositional relation with, in this specific case, the marriage sanctioned by society. This binarism is itself founded with the same principles as the by Derrida much disputed opposi¬tional pair of the spoken and written word.

Further, with true love understood as a discursive construction, the inquiry will show that this construction presuppose the notion of the public and private spheres of bourgeois society, where the public is reserved for the male and the private for the female. This will lead to a discussion of the constructedness status of sex and gender, which will show that the love ex¬pressed in the relationship of Arvid and Lydia is to be understood as a considerable part of heterosexual matrix, that is, the regulative framework which, according to Judith Butler, consti¬tute the rules for how intelligible sex and gender is to be produced.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how the female characters of the Swedish novel The Serious Game (Den allvarsamma leken) by Hjalmar Söderberg (1912) are represented in the film adaptation from 2016, a film adaptation by Pernilla August (director). The thesis also asks what the adapted screenplay by Lone Scherfig can reveal about how the novel’s characters are transformed through the adaptation process. The study has two main purposes: (1) to investigate the film adaptation as a process by considering the adapted screenplay as an interstitial and at the same time autonomous work bridging the novel and the final film, and (2) to investigate how the specific form and structure of the screenplay, as well as contextual and industrial aspects are of some significance for the representation of the female characters in the final film. The analysis of the female characters’ transformation through the adaptation process uses a combination of screenwriting theory and adaptation theory in order to explore the relationship between the novel, the adapted screenplay and the final film. One of the main conclusions of the study is that the male characters of the novel are transformed into being oppressive towards the female characters in more direct manners. As a result, the female characters liberation is somewhat transformed into a liberation from individual men rather than from vast structural, political or legal oppressions. It also shows that this representation of the novels characters gradually transforms according to this tendency in the adaptation process. The study also shows how the screenplay can be seen as a textual context in film adaptation.   Full English title: “In, I long to get in. Det finns många studier som undersöker filmadaptioner, det vill säga när till exempel en roman blir till film. Traditionellt sett undersöks då framför allt relationen mellan den färdiga filmen och dess ursprungliga förlaga, romanen. Den här uppsatsen utforskar istället filmadaption som en process, och det genom att se till en mellanliggande text som ofta har förbisetts inom adaptionsstudier, filmmanuset. I min analys vill jag, till skillnad från i många tidigare adaptionsanalyser som behandlar filmmanus, se filmmanuset som en ”färdig” eller åtminstone självständig text som kan analyseras i relation till en förlaga eller film utan att på samma gång upp- eller nervärdera dess betydelse eller status som ett eget verk. I syfte att belysa filmmanus som ett relevant studieobjekt inom adaptionsstudier analyseras den danska manusförfattaren Lone Scherfigs filmmanus Den allvarsamma leken i relation till förlagan, Hjalmar Söderbergs roman från 1912, och filmadaptionen från 2016, i regi av Pernilla August. Syftet är också att utifrån filmskaparnas uttalade ambition att lyfta fram romanens kvinnor, undersöka hur detta har gjorts, och det genom att analysera de kvinnliga rollfigurernas ”resa” genom adaptionsprocessen. Inspirerad av diskussioner inom den aktuella adaptionsforskningen, där nya teoretiska ingångar och analysmetoder uppmuntras, prövar jag en kombination och tillämpning av adaptions- och manusteori. Detta med målet att kunna behandla filmmanuset som ett betydelsefullt och mellanliggande steg i en adaptionsprocess, och samtidigt som en egen självständig text – filmmanuset som en adaption av romanen, och filmen som en adaption av filmmanuset. Analysen visar att framställningen av Den allvarsamma lekens rollfigurer har genomgått en successiv omformning under adaptionsprocessen – först i överföringen från roman till filmmanus, och därefter från filmmanus till film. Dessutom visar det sig att rollfigurernas successiva omformning har skett enlig en tendens liknande den som adaptionsforskaren Liora Brosh tidigare uppmärksammat i filmadaptioner av viktoriansk litteratur, som till exempel Svindlande Höjder och Jane Eyre. Brosh ser hur det förtryck som den viktorianska litteraturens kvinnor utsätts för har omformats i filmadaptionerna, bland annat genom att romanernas manliga karaktärer framställts som mer ondsinta eller våldsamma än i romanerna. Uppsatsen uppmärksammar också att filmmanus kan ses som ett slags textuell kontext inom filmadaption eftersom den västerländska filmens berättarstruktur enligt flera film- och filmmanusforskare till stor del formats av de strikta berättartekniska konventioner som förmedlats via otaliga filmmanushandböcker under de senaste hundra åren.

Abstract Rönngren, C (2011) Den allvarsamma leken - ett fokussamtal om pedagogiska strategier för att skapa förutsättningar för rollspel.     Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur erfarna pedagoger tänker kring sina strategier i situationer när teaterovana vuxna ska ta steget in i rollspel. Ett fokussamtal med fyra informanter genomfördes och urvalet skedde med kravet att deltagarna skulle ha arbetat med teaterovana vuxna och rollspel, i det här fallet forumspel och simuleringar. Samtalet spelades inte in, utan vägganteckningar fördes löpande så att deltagarna kunde ta ställning till materialet under samtalets gång samt lätt återknyta till tidigare samtalstrådar. Resultatet redovisas i en sammanfattning av samtalet och diskuteras sedan med utgångspunkt i teorier om kommunikation i fiktion; lek samt teori om kommunikation mellan skådespelare och publik. Deltagarna i fokussamtalet visade sig mycket medvetna om kommunikationen på den sensoriska nivån, vilken handlar om kommunikation på ett plan som kan beskrivas som ett personligt förhållande.  Vikten av att pedagogen är följsam gentemot deltagaren var en av de strategier som ansågs viktigast. I fokussamtalet framkom också resonemang om förutsättningar för lek och förutsättningar för en god lärandesituation – för att kunna leka och för att kunna lära beskrivs till exempel delaktighet och prestationsfrihet som två premisser.

In 1912 Hjalmar Söderberg wrote what came to be a Swedish classic, The serious game, about the two young lovers Lydia and Arvid and their failed attempts to be with each other. 1973 Gun-Britt Sundström responded with her own novel, For Lydia, that tells the same story but from Lydia´s point of view.  This essay discusses if the macro perspective, Sundström´s tendency in giving Lydia an agency, can be seen in the structure of the language, the micro perspective. To enable this, the essay has been using parts of the narratology theory founded in the 1960’s that was partly produced by Gérard Genette and supplemented by Mieke Bal. Looking at focalization (from what angle the story is told), it is possible to investigate what kind of information the reader can assimilate of Lydia and her progress. Susan Lanser defined feminist narratology and in accordance to her theory the essay examines the context and author of the novel to fully understand the writings. Sundström in a higher degree than Söderberg includes intern focalization when it comes to Lydia, which gives the reader more information about Lydia and her agency. Söderberg focalizes Arvid rather than Lydia which gives the reader the impression that Lydia acts selfish and unaccountable. Both novels arose in circumstances characterized by female emancipation and by regarding that, a more prominent picture of Sundström´s intention to make For Lydia a feministic response to The serious game can be seen. In conclusion, the essay shows that, the tendency of Sundström, to make a feministic response to Söderberg´s novel, can be seen even in the micro perspective of the language.

Mitt examensarbete behandlar förskolepedagogers syn på den fria leken. Problemet är ofta vad pedagogerna ska lägga i ordet fritt. Jag har dock kommit fram till att de flesta förskolepedagoger är relativt samstämmiga vad gäller friheten kontra de regler som behövs i den fria leken, men att det finns oenigheter om t.ex. var man ska dra gränsen när barn leker krig och hur tillåtande man ska vara när det gäller de mer fysiska lekarna, som att springa och jaga varandra, brottas och när barnen, enligt pedagogerna, är högljudda.Jag har valt att använda mig av kvalitativa intervjuer som metod i mitt examensarbete och spelade in intervjuerna, med sex förskolepedagoger, på min Iphone 5, för att sen skriva ner dem ordagrant och efter det övergå till att sammanställa resultat och analysera intervjuerna. Jag har analyserat intervjuerna utifrån mina frågeställningar:> Vad innebär fri lek i förskolan, enligt pedagogerna? > Vad anser pedagogerna att syftet är med den fria leken?> Vilka regleringar finns kring fri lek och vad kan dessa innebära?I mina teoretiska utgångspunkter vid analysen har jag använt mig av såväl Vygotskij och Dewey, som av moderna forskare som Pramling Samuelsson och Knutsdotter Olofsson.Efter att ha gjort detta arbete har jag kommit fram till att samtliga pedagoger ser den fria leken som det viktigaste på förskolan. Pedagogerna ser det som mycket viktigt att alla barn är aktiva i den fria leken. De barn som inte är lekkompetenta, ska med hjälp av pedagogerna introduceras i fria leken och successivt klara av att ta sig in och stanna kvar i fria leken. Något annat jag sett i min studie är att pedagogerna gärna vill ha ett öppet och tillåtande förhållningssätt, men att det trots detta finns en hel del lekar som pedagogerna stoppar eller indirekt styr barnen från.
