Abstract:
This paper deals with four particle-like entities which emerged from clauses, namely glaub (from glaubi/i glaub’s ‘I believe [it]’), meini (from meini ‘I mean’), schiins (from schiint’s ‘it seems’) and denk (from denki/i denk’s ‘I think [it]’). They contain a meta-communicative function insofar as they express the speaker’s epistemic position. Based on evidence from different corpora it is argued that the category of modal particles accounts only superficially for the functionality of these entities. It would be more precise to distinguish between a particle, with which the speaker focusses on the factuality of the statement (glaub), and three particles, which focus on its evidentiality by referring to a source of information. The particle meini brings into play a personal (sensory) perception, schiins can function as hearsay-evidential, and denk conveys that the utterance is based on the speaker’s considerations. The particulisation of former clauses is understood as a grammaticalisation in progress, thereby touching on a semantic domain, which is otherwise expressed with lexemes (angeblich ‘allegedly’) and periphrases (allem Anschein nach ‘apparently’).

Abstract. For non-omnidirectional sonic anenometers like the Kaijo-Denki DAT 600 TR61A probe, it is shown that separate planar fit rotations must be used for the undisturbed (open part of the sonic anemometer) and the disturbed sector. This increases the friction velocity while no effect on the scalar fluxes was found. In the disturbed sector, irregular values of −u′w′ < 0 were detected for low wind velocities. Abstract:
Soon after Von Laue's experiment of X-ray diffraction in 1912, a similar experiment was conducted in Japan by Prof. Terada at University of Tokyo. He made direct observation of Laue spots from rock-sault on a fluorescent screen. In 1914, Prof. Nishikawa also at University of Tokyo photographed Laue spots of spinel. The X-ray generator employed was one designed for medical use. The first X-ray diffractometer in Japan was fabricated in the 1920s at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, It was designed with reference to Bragg's spectrometer using an ionization chamber as the X-ray detector. In 1932, X-ray generators and cameras were manufactured by Rigaku Denki Mfg., the predecessor of the present Rigaku Corporation, Shimazu Mfg. and some other few companies. X-ray tubes at the time were Coolidge type demountable tubes.

Abstract:
The work and ideas of Alfred D.Chandler Jr. have enriched the field of Japanese business history and our understanding of that nation's industrial development. Chandler's studies about the rise of the large, professionally managed, multidivisional firm in the United States highlight factors critical not only to the United States' capitalist system but also to Japan's. Indeed, large firms played a dominant role in Japan's economic takeoff in the late 1800s. As these companies grew, they were transformed into professionally managed corporations. Managers, operating in a clear hierarchical chain of command, built up huge companies, such as Nihon Denki (NEC), Toshiba, Mitsubishi Electric, Hitachi, Nippon Steel, Matsushita, and Toyota. In Japanese as in U.S. firms, the visible hand of management was critical to controlling the flow of work, from the input of raw materials to the production of finished goods.

Abstract:
In translating Japanese compound sentences, generally, students still have difficulty in interpreting the meaning of the -te verb which functioned as a conjunction (-te conjunction) in compound sentences. Semantically, the -te verb form has some meanings that can be distinguished based on the context of the sentence. Inaccuracy in determining the meaning of the -te conjunction can affect the results of translating compound sentences. In this research, the forms of -te conjunction translation errors which causes the error in translating compound sentence will be elaborated. Data in this research taken from the translation of 'Haha no Tanjobi', which is one of the subtitles in the Rudolf Beethoven biography book titled Beetoben Kodomo Denki Zenshuu, translated by semester VI students of the Japanese Language Program, Vocational College, UGM. From the analysis, the causes of errors in translating conjunctions can be concluded as follows: learners do not understand the classification of the -te conjunctions’ meaning, lack of mastery of Japanese and Indonesian compound sentence structures, and have not been able to understand the message/ meaning of each clause forming compound sentences in Japanese.

Abstract:
In the preceding article, I have reviewed from my very personal point of view the changes in earthquake disaster mitigation and earthquake engineering issues which took place mainly in the last quarter of the 20 th century in Japan, with a strong emphasis on the influences of the 1995 Kobe earthquake. Having read the review by Dr. Omote published in 1973, I was impressed by his comprehensive understanding of the issue which appears fresh even today. He covers from topics on seismology to earthquake design methods which were available and most advanced at that time. His understanding on the general principles of earthquake resistant design was very sound when he wrote, “The ultimate purpose of antiseismic design and construction of structures is to protect human lives. But, such structures may become too expensive from the practical point of view.” He stresses then, “Firstly, try to protect human lives from earthquake destruction, secondly, construct structures strong enough not to be damaged by destructive earthquakes, and thirdly, never let structures severely collapse even though some damage may be allowed for extremely strong motions.” If these principles had been observed by engineers concerned, we would not have experienced such a disaster in Kobe in 1995. Abstract:
The structure of graphene obtained by chemical exfoliation of graphiteviathe oxidation/reduction procedure has been determined using wide-angle scattering of neutrons and X-rays combined with computer simulations based on classical molecular dynamics (MD). A comparison of results obtained from wide-angle neutron scattering (WANS) with the D4 neutron diffractometer dedicated for liquids and amorphous materials (Institute Laue–Langevin in Grenoble) and from wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) with the laboratory Rigaku-Denki D/MAX RAPID II diffractometer has shown that both techniques provide data of a good quality that can be used to derive precise and valuable structural information about graphene. To obtain detailed structural information, the paracrystal formalism has been used along with MD simulations. The MD simulations were performed at 300 K with second-generation reactive empirical bond order potential for atoms lying in the same layer and the Lennard–Jones potential for interlayer interactions. The proposed models consist of three-layered systems, 36 Å in diameter, in which mono-vacancy, di-vacancy and Stone–Thrower–Wales types of defects are introduced. The reported results show that the WANS and WAXS methods together with the MD simulations contribute to a detailed description of the graphene materials, including the presence of topological defects, which is important as their structure at the atomic scale dramatically affects their electrical and mechanical properties.

ABSTRACTForty-nine bulls, 27 Limousin × Friesian and 22 Charolais × Friesian, were evaluated and slaughtered in four batches of about equal size over 4 weeks. Each batch was of one breed. Age, live weight at evaluation and subjective assessments of fatness and conformation were recorded together with fat and muscle measurements by the Delphi, Meritronics, Scanogram, Vetscan, Kaijo Denki, Warren and the Velocity of Sound ultrasonic machines. Experienced operators were used to assess the performance of machine/operator combinations likely to be achieved in bull performance testing in the field. Fat thicknesses and areas, and m. longissimus areas were taken at the 10th rib and 13th rib, and 3rd lumbar regions by most machines. For the Delphi and Meritronics machines, fat thicknesses only were taken; for the Velocity of Sound machine, time interval measurements and anatomical distances were taken at the shoulder, mid back, lumbar and hind limb regions. The left side of each carcass was fully separated into lean, subcutaneous fat, intermuscular fat, bone and waste. All measurements were examined as potential predictors of carcass composition in step-wise regression in a model which included week of evaluation, breed and live weight at evaluation as the first independent variable. On the whole, scanning machines had a higher precision than A-mode machines, with the Velocity of Sound machine achieving the highest precision for carcass lean (g/kg) (residual s.d. = 13·0) and fat (g/kg) (residual s.d. = 14·1). None of the linear and area measurements taken on the carcass achieved the degree of precision of the Velocity of Sound, Scanogram and Vetscan machines.

Abstract:
AbstractBackgroundThe first line pharmacological treatment of cancer pain is morphine and surrogates but a significant pain relief and a reduction of the side-effects of these compounds makes it necessary to combine them with other drugs acting on different targets. The aim of this study was to measure the antinociceptive effect on cancer-induced bone pain resulting from the association of the endogenous opioids enkephalin and non-opioid analgesic drugs. For this purpose, PL265 a new orally active single dual inhibitor of the two degrading enkephalins enzymes, neprilysin (NEP) and aminopeptidase N (APN) was used. It strictly increased the levels of enkephalin at their sites of releases. The selected non-opioid compounds are: gabapentin, A-317491 (P2X3receptor antagonist), ACEA (CB1 receptor antagonist), AM1241 (CB2 receptor antagonist), JWH-133 (CB2 receptor antagonist), URB937 (FAAH inhibitor), and NAV26 (Nav1.7 channel blocker).MethodsExperiments. Experiments were performed in 5–6 weeks old (26–33g weight) C57BL/6 mice. Cell culture and cell inoculation. B16-F10 melanoma cells were cultured and when preconfluent, treated and detached. Finally related cells were resuspended to obtain a concentration of 2×106cells/100μL. Then 105cells were injected into the right tibial medullar cavity. Control mice were treated by killed cells by freezing.Behavioural studies. Thermal withdrawal latencies were measured on a unilatered hot plate (UHP) maintained at 49±0.2 °C.Mechanical threshold values were obtained by performing the von Frey test using the “up and down” method. To evaluate the nature (additive or synergistic) of the interactions between PL265 and different drugs, an isobolographic analysis following the method described by Tallarida was performed.ResultsThe results demonstrate the ability of PL265, a DENKI that prevents the degradation of endogenous ENKs, to counteract cancer-induced bone thermal hyperalgesia in mice, by exclusively stimulating peripheral opioid receptors as demonstrated by used of an opioid antagonist unable to enter the brain. The development of such DENKIs, endowed with druggable pharmacokinetic characteristics, such as good absorption by oral route, can be considered as an important step in the development of much needed novel antihyperalgesic drugs. Furthermore, all the tested combinations resulted in synergistic antihyperalgesic effects. As shown here, the greatest synergistic antinociceptive effect (doses could be lowered by 70%) was produced by the combination of PL265 with the P2X3receptor antagonist (A-317491), cannabinoid CB1 receptor agonist (exogenous, ACEA and endogenous URB937-protected-AEA) and Nav1.7 blocker (NAV26) whose mechanism of action involves the direct activation of the enkephalinergic system.ConclusionsThese multi-target-based antinociceptive strategies using combinations of non-opioid drugs with dual inhibitors of enkephalin degrading enzymes may bring therapeutic advantages in terms of efficacy and safety by allowing the reduction of doses of one of the compounds or of both, which is of the utmost interest in the chronic treatment of cancer pain.ImplicationsThis article presents synergistic antinociceptive effect produced by the combination of PL265 with non-opioid analgesic drugs acting via unrelated mechanisms. These multi-target-based antinociceptive strategies may bring therapeutic advantages by allowing the reduction of doses, which is of great interest in the chronic treatment of cancer pain.

Abstract:
In the far-western region of Nepal, particularly, in Doti, Baitadi and Dadeldhura, deuki pratha has been practiced as a long established tradition. However, Deuki pratha is considered illegal in Nepal. Deukis are offered to different deities by parents or others (wealthier couples). The reason behind deuki pratha rests on the belief that one’s family gets protection and good favour from the gods. Once offered as Deuki, the girl is not allowed to get married and is devoid of the family support. The major duty of Deuki is to serve the goddess and temple such as cleaning and looking after the temple. The study was conducted in Melauli Municipality of Baitadi district in Sudurpaschim province. This paper aims to highlight the social issues due to deuki in the study area. The study aimed to understand the socio-cultural beliefs of deuki tradition in the changing social and cultural contexts from the gender perspective and development. The study was based primarily on qualitative methods. The study revealed that deuki tradition is still practiced, though it is reported to be declined in the recent years. Unlike in the past, with the growing awareness by the joint efforts of government and non-government organizations' agencies, practice of Deuki has declined to a great extent but not abolished yet. There was mixed reaction regarding beliefs upon Deuki tradition among the locals. The study found that Deuki women who had been offered to the deity was unknowingly been isolated, when still as a girl and abused from the society as these came at the cost of personal and social life of women. With the growing awareness, and changing society, the locals and the followers of deuki pratha seem to welcome the changes and attitudes towards deuki pratha. However, the social and economic life styles of deukis are at stake. Though, some deukis own some private property, due to the lack of emotional and social support are bound to live forbidden and isolated life. Unlike, in the past, where deukis received reverence and importance, the perception towards deukis has worsened in the study area often belittled as prostitution and the disgrace to the society.

Abstract:
Denai Lama tourist village is the first tourist village in Deli Serdang Regency. This tourist village was formed by involving the local village government and stakeholders to build a new tourism image in Deli Serdang Regency. The Denai Lama tourist village started on January 20, 2019 but before it was inaugurated there were already tourists visiting there. From the results of the research carried out there were 3 important information, including community responses, namely From the number of families in the village of Denai Lama as many as 921 families who have agricultural land as many as 601 families or 65.25 percent and those who do not have agricultural land 320 families or 34.74 percent who own agricultural land. The community believes that good agricultural products sold before and after being processed really help their economy, especially after the Denai Lama village was officially appointed as a tourist village in April 2022 by the Regent of Deli Serdang. The response of the local government is that currently there are more than 97 families managing small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and 68% of the community as farmers. From the results they have they are greatly helped because the community is able to process the results of ready-to-eat food products and souvenirs for tourists visiting the tourist village of Denai Lama. The response of tourists is that tourists who visit are very interested in visiting the Denai Lama tourist village because they can enjoy the village atmosphere directly and can enjoy the arts and cultural performances provided and can also enjoy processed products from the available community. The tourist attractions provided are quite entertaining with clean huts in the middle of beautiful rice fields and it is fun to spoil the eyes seeing the vast rice fields accompanied by artistic and cultural performances from the village community of Denai Lama.
