Abstract Aim This study investigated the temperature rise caused by different light curing units and the temperature increase in dentin of different thicknesses. Methods and Materials Dentin discs of 1.0 and 2.0 mm thicknesses were prepared from extracted human mandibular molars. Temperatures were recorded directly at the surface of the light guide tip, under dentin discs with different thicknesses, and through a sandwich composed of 2 mm thick cured composite and dentin using a K-type thermocouple. The curing units used were two quartz-tungsten-halogen lights (Spectrum and Elipar Trilight-ET)

Periodontitis is a dental disease which can result in a loss of integrity of the periodontal tissues and lead to eventual tooth loss. Barrier membranes can be used in conjunction with guided bone regeneration (GBR) to help repair the damage caused by periodontitis. GBR promotes and directs the growth of new bone, whilst the barrier membrane secludes the defect site from infiltration by fast growing connective and epithelial tissues which would otherwise fill the defect space. Abstract:
A contemporary dental practice offers a variety of sedation medications and routes of administration. Most dental sedation is delivered to children by inhalational and oral routes, although the nasal route is gaining acceptance. Minimal and moderate sedation are the levels that the dentist, acting as both the sedationist and the proceduralist, will wish to achieve in the dental office. Combinations of medications offer the ability to achieve ideal moderate sedation. Nitrous oxide, benzodiazepines, antihistamines, and other agents are discussed. Dental procedures are invasive and unique in that they occur in the oral airway. To achieve a successful outcome, sedationists and proceduralists must take into account instrumentation, loud noises, treatment duration, delivery of local anesthetics, and oropharyngeal protective barriers. Local anesthetic administration can be painful when delivered in the oral cavity. As this is the initial invasive step the child will encounter during the dental experience, providing sedation care may be of value in addition to topical anesthetic.

Abstract:
This chapter examines how Catholic and evangelical affiliations influence diverging understandings of coethnic barrios. Relationships to ethnic enclaves matter, the author argues, because ethnic enclaves host a concentration of ethnic resources that distinctly shape ethnic identities. Catholics understand the barrio as a “community,” denoting both physical neighborhood and tight-knit support networks. The barrio functions as a space for communally performed rituals of collective memory for Catholics. On the other hand, evangelicals tend to view the barrio as a place that is in need of redemption. For evangelicals, the barrio is a target of evangelistic efforts and they conceive of their place in the barrio as a catalytic role, centered on bringing about transformation therein. Both Catholics and evangelicals are highly invested in the ethnic enclave, but their differing views provide them with different channels of access to localized ethnic resources.

Two damaged final reheat tubes from a 30 year old supercritical unit were submitted to the laboratory for evaluation following the discovering of a failure of one of the tubes after deslagging operations; a third, dented tube was left in service.
