Full textThe modeling of the dependence between several variables can focus either on the positive or negative correlation between the variables, or on other more effective ways, which determine the tails dependence of distributions. In this thesis, we are interested in the tail dependence of distributions, by presenting some properties and results. Firstly, we obtain the limit tail dependence coefficient for the generalized hyperbolic law according to different parameter values of this law. Then, we exhibit some properties and results of die extremal dependence coefficient in the case where the random variables follow a unitary Fréchet law. Finally, we present a Real Time Database ManagementSystems (RDBMS). The goal is to propose probabilistic models to study thebehavior of real-time transactions, in order to optimize its performance

Full textThis PhD thesis presents contributions to the modelling of multivariate extremevalues. We introduce a new tail model for multivariate distribution with Pareto margins. This model is inspired from the Wadsworth and Tawn (2013) one. A new non-standard multivariate regular variation with index equals to a function of two variables is thus introduced to generalize both modeling approaches proposedby Ramos and Ledford (2009) and Wadsworth and Tawn (2013), respectively. Building on this new approach we propose a new class of non-parametric models allowing multivariate extrapolation along trajectories covering the entire first positive quadrant. Similarly we consider parametric models built with a non-negative measure satisfying a constraint that generalizes the Ramos and Ledford (2009) one. These new models are flexible and valid in both situations of dependence or asymptotic independence

Full textFrom the VSO order of the Maghrebian Berber dialects (see SVO for the touareg) this research concludes on the discontinuity of both VP and indirect argument (subject). This study, after the delimitation of the word order in Tarifit and the structural context (Ch. I) where will appear the subject 'ch. 2), the complements (ch. 3), deals with the original status of the passive constructioin (ch. 4) which, by assymetry, refers to the causative (ch. 5). All this chapters are subsumed by a list of interdialectal verbs giving their distribution in relation with the affixes formation of the complex verbs. The basic idea of this investigation is to underline the pertinent relations of lexical and syntactic dependancies in Tarifit

Full textWe obtain some rates of strong approximation of the function indexed empirical process by a sequence of Brownian bridges. We work under random entropy conditions and adapt the recent technique of Berthet and Mason (2006). In view of Giné and Zinn (1984) and Talagrand (1987) our weakest condition is close to necessary for the Donsker property, but however guaranty a rate (logn)^(-a) which significatively improves the universal (loglogn)^1/2 of Dudley and Philipp (1983). Our strongest condition leads to polynomial rates of Gaussian approximation. We also study the case where randoms variables are weakly dependents

Full textAddiction constitutes a major public health problem and raises numerous questions from a clinical and psychopathological perspective as well as on young users’ care. Even though certain interest has been shown in the field of scientific research on the subject, only recently has the suffering of the parents of young teenagers been the object of researchers’ and professionals’ studies. The objective of this qualitative and exploratory study is to examine the personal experiences of the parents of teenagers suffering from addiction. It was carried out at a prevention and treatment center for addiction.Mothers who consult for their sons make up the majority of those who consult. Generally, these teenagers or grown-up young adults are between the ages of 15 and 23, live at home with their parents, and battle against excessive use of cannabis, alcohol, and video games.Six forms of parental personal experiences and certain family configurations in connection with the addictive behaviors of the teenagers were identified by means of fifteen clinical cases. The addictions of the young people in question call out to the maternal function as a mediator of the paternal function.Additionally, the adolescent subject summons within his/her mother an object in response to the question of the real of the Other jouissance, as a substitution in the absence of the signifier. These results allow us to question the possibilities of clinical interventions with these families, and to think about new tools of medical-psychosocial support

Full textThis thesis is constituted by different results of exact controllability and stabilization ; it is divided into five chapters. In the first two chapters, we use the hilbert uniqueness method of J. L. Lions to study the exact internal controllability of the wave equation in perturbed domains. In the third chapter, we study the internal stabilization of the vibrations of a structure which looks like a grid and we use the principle of D. L. Russell to deduce from that the exact controllability of these vibrations. The fourth chapter is based on a result of J. L. Lions in the theory of exact controllability of plates an singular perturbations; in this chapter, we solve an open problem which is in the second volume of his monograph on exact controllability. In the fifth and last chapter, we work in two-dimensional domains; we prove that a judicious choice of feedback provides a better stabilization result for the wave equation than a previous result of V. Komornik. We also study the stabilization of the linear system of elasticity

Full textThe sensitivity to TMV of two varieties of N. Tabacum “Samsun” and “Xanthi” nc grown either on a mixture of peat and perlite, or in hydroponic conditions is influenced by calcium nutrition. 8 different levels of calcium in nutrient solutions provide a linear variation or the total calcium content in the whole plant and in the leaves and also in the protoplasts isolated from these leaves. The first result is that a local calcium content in the whole plant higher than 2,5% of dry material induces a resistance of tobacco to TMV. Under this value, the sensitivity to TMV increases following a biphasic curve with two maxima at 1-2 and 7,5 meq/l Ca in nutrient solutions. Nevertheless the correlation between the total calcium content of one vegetal organ and its susceptibility to TMV isn’t so clear, and consequently the molecular interpretation of the phenomenon is more difficult. Several hypothesis are proposed to understand the action of calcium during the numerous events leading to the viral infection of tobacco. First of all the TMV infectivity depends on the CaCl₂ concentration (maximal between 10 and 50mM) in the inoculum and this is related to the calcium nutrition level. This demonstrates a direct effect of calcium but its interpretation “in situ” is not evident. Secondly the actions of calcium as a second messenger and therefore of calmodulin are investigated as they can be involved in an early stimulation of the plant reaction against the viral infection. The tobacco calmodulin is purified and characterized, then its amount related to the total proteins is measured. The rate of calmodulin is independent from calcium nitration and from the infectious stage in tobacco plants. Finally and amplificated phosphorylation of one polypeptide of PM = 33000 is observed in TMV infected leaves two hours after their inoculations. Is this protéophosphorylation Ca and/or CaM dependent? What is likely action on the sensitivity of tobacco in relation with the calcium nutrition?

Full textThe thesis is devoted to the study of bivariate models in reliability, which take into account several types of dependence between components. As a first step, we are interested in a two-component system with accumulating deterioration modeled by a bivariate increasing Lévy process (bivariate subordinator). Under this hypothesis, two different studies are made : one under the assumption of continuous monitoring and perfect repair, the other one under the assumption of periodic inspections and imperfect repair. In a second step, the thesis is devoted to the study of another bivariate survivalmodel, under the influence of a stochastic and stressful environment. The dependence between components is here induced by the common stressful environment, with different incidence on the two components (increment of failure rate for one, of deterioration level for the other). For each of the studied models, our results show the importance of taking into account the dependence between the components of a system

Full textThe thesis consists of three parts. The first part introduces a number of measures of extreme dependency. An application on stock and bond markets of 49 countries shows the multivariate extreme value theory leads to results which are different from those from the correlation coefficient, but relatively close to those obtained from multivariate conditional Spearman's rho. This part also assesses the risk of simultaneous losses. The second part examines the determinants of extreme co-movements between 5 core countries and 49 non-core countries. Transmission mechanisms of shocks vary from less recent to recent period, from developed to emerging markets, from normal to extreme shocks. The third part examines the role of safe haven of gold over the period 1986-2012. Extreme positive gains of gold can be linked to extreme losses of S&P. However, this relationship is not always valid, it evolves over time and could be determined by other factors

Full textIn this thesis, we investigate nonparametric modeling of spatial extremes. Our resultsare based on the main result of the theory of extreme values, thereby encompass Paretolaws. This framework allows today to extend the study of extreme events in the spatialcase provided if the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators satisfy the standardconditions of the Extreme Value Theory (EVT) in addition to the local conditions on thedata structure themselves. In the literature, there exists a vast panorama of extreme events models, which are adapted to the structures of the data of interest. However, in the case ofextreme spatial data, except max-stables models, little or almost no models are interestedin non-parametric estimation of the tail index and/or extreme quantiles. Therefore, weextend existing works on estimating the tail index and quantile under independent ortime-dependent data. The specificity of the methods studied resides in the fact that theasymptotic results of the proposed estimators take into account the spatial dependence structure of the relevant data, which is far from trivial. This thesis is then written in thecontext of spatial statistics of extremes. She makes three main contributions.• In the first contribution of this thesis, we propose a new approach of the estimatorof the tail index of a heavy-tailed distribution within the framework of spatial data. This approach relies on the estimator of Hill (1975). The asymptotic properties of the estimator introduced are established when the spatial process is adequately approximated by aspatial M−dependent process, spatial linear causal process or when the process satisfies a strong mixing condition.• In practice, it is often useful to link the variable of interest Y with covariate X. Inthis situation, the tail index depends on the observed value x of the covariate X and theunknown fonction (.) will be called conditional tail index. In most applications, the tailindexof an extreme value is not the main attraction, but it is used to estimate for instance extreme quantiles. The contribution of this chapter is to adapt the estimator of the tail index introduced in the first part in the conditional framework and use it to propose an estimator of conditional extreme quantiles. We examine the models called "fixed design"which corresponds to the situation where the explanatory variable is deterministic. To tackle the covariate, since it is deterministic, we use the window moving approach. Westudy the asymptotic behavior of the estimators proposed and some numerical resultsusing simulated data with the software "R".• In the third part of this thesis, we extend the work of the second part of the framemodels called "random design" for which the data are spatial observations of a pair (Y,X) of real random variables . In this last model, we propose an estimator of heavy tail-indexusing the kernel method to tackle the covariate. We use an estimator of the conditional tail index belonging to the family of the estimators introduced by Goegebeur et al. (2014b)

Full textThis simultaneously comparative, theoretical, and pedagogical project is rooted in the recognition that it behooves students and teachers to ask about the costs, complicities, and competing interests constantly involved in learning to read and write (about) literature today; that literary practice takes place in a space or a structure of irreducible differences called, variously, but not exclusively, metaphor, narrative, or the city; and that the labour and investments required therefore to negotiate our (dis)course towards becoming increasingly learned and literate subjects is as costly and interminable as likewise a pleasure and a political necessity. While such conclusions tend toward the relatively abstract, the language of bodies and cities, and of addiction and violence, is meant to be all the more concrete and material therefore. The introduction maps out the landscape of readings and comparisons of Gail Scott's Heroine that are the centre of the project and identifies the institutional, historical, and personal contexts that threaten at every turn to decentre my practice here. Chapter one articulates and illustrates the literary materialist methods employed, whereby literature is the preferred medium for conducting such theoretical investigations. Derived first from Gail Scott and Réjean Ducharme's theoretical-fictions, and then from the work of Walter Benjamin, Elizabeth Grosz and Pierre Macherey, this materialism refers to a collection of figures of the world as a book, and to the close comparisons consequently of different representations of the practice of reading found, for instance, in George Perec, Michael DeCerteau, Barbara Johnson, and Patricia Smart, all of which invites an interrogation of the relationship between bodies and stories that make the simultaneous necessity and contingency of literary practice all the more legible and teachable. Similarly, a collection of figures of literary Montreal, and of the pedagogical city more generally, gathered from a range of writers including Zygmunt Bauman, Patricia Godbout, and Lewis Mumford, provides a vocabulary in which to better describe what the differential spaces of literature look and feel like and what reading in turn (and learning) requires. Chapter two reads Scott's Heroine alongside other contemporary Québécois women writers, including Anne Dandurand, Marie Gagnon and Tess Fragoulis, initially, in the context of debates surrounding the institutionalization of (anglo)Quebec literature, but then in terms too of the much broader and more urgent pedagogical and political questions raised by the recurrence of gun violence at schools like the Polytechnique in Montreal, in 1989. That question of the relationship between violence, literary practice, and pedagogy, here, is compelled and enabled, specifically, by a collection of literary figures. Specifically, a series of cracks in both Scott's narrative and across much of the body of critical writing about her work, invites a reading of Heroine as a narrative of addiction, so-called, whereby the peculiarly recursive temporality of addiction, as well as its logic of introjection, invite a better understanding of the violence and power of the practice of literature upon which, in turn, is grounded the pedagogy under construction here. Looking back, then, onto the work the project does as a whole, the conclusion looks forward also to the ways in which the materialist readings of literature here lead and contribute to the author's teaching of language to aspiring teachers of English as a foreign language in Korea. In this context, the assumptions investing Jacques Ranciere's work provide a frame for my intersecting of the history of educational debates and structures in Korea and the conclusions drawn in these close literary readings of Gail Scott's experimental prose.

Full textEach year the province of Quebec receives an increasing number of temporary farm workers through two programs: the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (mainly Mexican workers) and the Low-Skill Temporary Workers Program (with Guatemalan workers). These programs share a common characteristic: the workers’ permits are tied to an employer. This research analyses the compliance of the bonded-work permit with article 46 of the Quebec Charter, which guarantees the right to just and reasonable working conditions. An analysis of the effects of the work-tied permit shows that it creates a huge dependence of the workers vis-à-vis their employers – legally (due to the possibility of anticipated repatriation for work or behaviour related problems), financially (among other things because of the naming practise) and mentally (submission, fear). The interpretation of article 46 in light of international human rights law shows that tied-work permits violate that provision. If the objective of the bonded characteristic of the work permit is to retain a labour force, it would be much more just and reasonable to improve working conditions rather than to enslave workers.
