Full textThe descriptions of the "addictive practices" (use, abuse, dependence) while constituting an important common basis for the diagnosis. Do these facts interrogate us on what is a psychopathological dependence ? This interrogative development conduct us to elaborate the following hypothesis: The "psychopathological dependence" to the psychoactive substances is characterized by psychodynamic, psychological and environmental factors, contributory to the constitution of differents mode of the psychic dependence. This process predominate in the apparition of the addictive behaviors. We tested this hypothesis near to 53 consumers subjects of psychoactive substances, submitted to instrument battery (ASI; SCL 90-R; TAT; The test of the tree; The biographic interview). Our results put in evidence : The absence of empiric foundation of the psychiatric classification of the consumption behaviors (use, abuse, dependence). Psychopathological configurations of the dependence integrating the psychodynamic, psychological and environmental factors. The existence of different modes of the psychic dependences predominate in the "psychopathological dependence". Finally, we attempted to construct a model of the "psychopathological dependence"

Full textBy exploring the intricate relations between nationalism, race and ethnicity, this dissertation analyzes the various ways in which Guadeloupians identify collectively. The ethnographic research on which this inquiry is based consists of an immersion in three different kinds of organizations: anti-colonial and anti-capitalist/nationalist political parties and trade unions, organizations promoting Indian Guadeloupian cultural and religious heritage and a mostly White Creole employee union representing the archipelago's top companies. While this research traces back the genealogy of the formalized discourses on identity that are elaborated in these contexts by the Black, Indian and White middle classes and elites it also examines everyday-life interactions in order to gauge their actual influence

Full textType Theory allows the use of dependent types. Types can depend upon values of the system. It is possible, for example, to define the set of lists of a given size n. Some types are equivalent and syntactically different. For example, lists of size 2+2 are the same objects as list of size 4. The conversion process of the system checks for these equivalencies. In the Calculus of Inductive Constructions, this process is reduced to a small set of elementary rules of calculus. For example, lists of size n+0 and lists of size n are distinct types. We introduce an extensional system : in such a system, every provable equality is added to the conversion. We exhibit a translation from this system to a slight extension of the Calculus of Inductive Constructions. This process can be used both as a theorical justification and a practical basis for the implementation of such a system. In the presence of dependent types, some cases can be useless in a definition by pattern matching. For example, the case of the empty list in a function taking lists of non zero size as argument is useless. We introduce a method to eliminate some useless cases in a pattern matching with dependent types. This method relies on approximations of the set of terms inhabiting a type or a context. It is parametred by the approximation used to represent such sets. We show the correction of this method and we introduce to implementations of set approximation that can be used in practice

Full textThis thesis deals with a shipyard in Scotland, Scott-Lithgow and its working class community. It is made in two different movements. The first part deals with man at work: working conditions, organization of work; the hierarchy within the working class group and its valves, satisfaction at work. The second theme in this part deals with trade-unionism and its different aspects (demarcation between trades, closed shop, skilled workers unionism, unskilled workers unionism. . . ). The third theme is a synthesis of all this through the study of Scottlithgow crisis (1983-84) and its denationalization. The second part of the study deals with man outside the shipyards: man and its environment, man at home his social rituals (pubs, social clubs. . . ) and the social problems he is confronted to. As a resume, this study deals with a whole community at work and outside work, a community confronted to industrial mutations and to major threats putting into questions their way of life and their identity

Full textThe aim was to test the hypothesis that cognitive modalities which determine the construction of human nature would be specific insofar as they stem from processes that are based on ideological beliefs and functioning. Four experiments enabled us to discredit this hypothesis by showing that cognitive processes, activated whilst dealing with situations concerning the representations of man or that of an animal, stem more likely from individual causes relative to interactive situations and to the anticipation of a territorial threat The firsi experiment came from our initial idea, that in individualspecies relations, an "ontem" is in play for man but not for animals, so much so that the cognitive modalities of the construction of the representation of man were the opposite of those creating the representation of an animal. A second experiment placed the hypothesis in the paradigm of asymmetries in situations where both are present. We again noted that the processes are différent for man and for animals. In a third experiment we included the concept of a territorial threat and tested if what is true for a bird is also true when the animal considered is threatening : a bull. The results were found true for a bird, but the results found for a bull are identical to those results that founded the human model, therefore the problem was reformulated insisting this time on the importance of competitive interactions rather than on general processes at work in the perception of man and of animals. In fact, when we carried out the first experiment again, replacing deer by wolves (fourth experiment), the animal model is inverted and appears close to the human model. The interest of distinguishing between an objective and symbolic threat is shown in a fifth experiment

Full textMy dissertation focuses on sequences "WH- Verb_Construction1 that Verb_Construction2" (see caption) in which it is traditionally admitted that dependency between the WH- and the embedded VC2 is done at long-distance. This construction has been the subject of numerous studies and all of them conclude that constraints regulate its employment. But these studies are based on either the authors' or speakers' intuition, or on other languages than French. My study is based on 229 utterances extracted from 3M words of spoken French and 9M words of written French. I aim first to confirm the assumptions made in these works (corpus-based). Some are correct: WH- is always a V2 subject, complement or circonstant, V1 is a frequent verb, which is semantically simple and has a modal value. However, there is no prototypique formula and V1 don't exclude factive verbs. In a second step, I examine the syntactic, lexical and pragmatic characteristics of VC1 (corpus-driven). Little research has been done on this topic to date. VC1 occurs as "pronominal subject + verb", which could support the hypothesis of performance constraints. But the constancy of VC1 form, its modal meaning and its relationship with the VC2 (hardly pronominalisable) lead me to consider that the whole "VC1 that VC2" is not an embedded structure but a "complex verb", which is a string of verbs similar to sequences in "VC1 infinitive_VC2". The bubble representation proposed by Kahane (2000) clearly reflects that WH- is a local dependent of the complex verb

Full textThe law of large numbers, which states that statistical characteristics of a random sample will converge to the characteristics of the whole population, is the foundation of the insurance industry. Insurance companies rely on this principle to evaluate the risk of insured events. However, when we introduce dependencies between each component of the random sample, it may drastically affect the overall risk profile of the sample in comparison to the whole population. This is why it is essential to consider the effect of dependency when aggregating insurance risks from which stems the interest given to dependence modeling in actuarial science. In this thesis, we study dependence modeling in a portfolio of risks for which a mixture random variable (rv) introduces dependency. After introducing the use of exponential mixtures in actuarial risk modeling, we show how this mixture construction can define Archimedean copulas, a powerful tool for dependence modeling. First, we demonstrate how an Archimedean copula constructed via a continuous mixture can be approximated with a copula constructed by discrete mixture. Then, we derive explicit expressions for a few quantities related to the aggregated risk. The common mixture representation of Archimedean copulas is then at the basis of a computational strategy proposed to compute the distribution of the sum of risks in a general setup. Such results are then used to investigate risk models with respect to aggregation, capital allocation and ruin problems. Finally, we discuss an extension to nested Archimedean copulas, a general case of dependency via common mixture including different levels of dependency.
