Respiratory pumping in Aplysia is a well-characterized behaviour controlled by identified neurones, but its function is unknown. To gain insight into the function of this behaviour, respiratory pumping and oxygen consumption were examined under identical conditions, in Aplysia fasciata Poiret and in A. depilans Gmelin. A. fasciata is found in less turbulent environments than is A. depilans, suggesting that control of respiratory pumping may differ in the two species. Aplysia gonad lectin, isolated from the mollusc Aplysia depilans, was successfully conjugated to colloidal gold and used for ultrastructural detection of galacturonic acids in some pathogenic fungi. These sugar residues were found to occur in the fibrillar sheath surrounding hyphal cells of Ascocalyx abietina and in intravacuolar dense inclusions of this fungus spores. Boala Gaucher este cea mai frecventă maladie lizozomală, cu transmitere autosomal recesivă. Boala se datorează deficitului enzimei glucocerebrozidază, rezultând în acumularea de glucocerebrozide în toate organele. Diagnosticul se stabileşte prin măsurarea activităţii enzimei. Dintre formele clinice, tipul 2 este cel mai rar şi are prognosticul cel mai sumbru. Prezentăm cazul unui sugar depistat la vârsta de 5 luni cu simptome neurologice şi evoluţia lui ulterioară cu hepatosplenomegalie masivă, fiind diagnosticat cu tipul 2 de boală Gaucher.

The first occurrence of the alien gastropod Melibe fimbriata in the Taranto marine coastal area is reported. This mollusc was observed on muddy bottoms covered with dense algal beds mainly composed of Chaetomorpha linum, Gracilaria spp. and the invasive chlorophyta Caulerpa racemosa. Occasionally, M. fimbriata specimens were found in proximity to mussel farms. Ultrastructural localization of abscisic acid in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Vedettos) seedling roots is determined with the indirect protein A–gold approach. Polyclonal antibodies recognizing specifically the free (+)cis, trans form of abscisic acid are used as the first step in the immunolocalization procedure. Evidence is presented that its distribution varies within the different tissues of the tomato root. El objetivo fue determinar la cantidad de la mosca del establo en el rastrojo de piña en derriba en seco. El estudio se realizó en la Finca Babilonia-Siquirres, Costa Rica de agosto a diciembre del año 2012, en una hectárea de rastrojo depiña. El tamaño de la muestra se obtuvo por medio de la Ley de Taylor. Para la captura de adultos, se colocaron cuatro trampas blancas con pegamento al borde de las parcelas de 50x40 m. Para el conteo de larvas se ocuparon las mismas cinco parcelas, se lanzó seis veces al azar un marco de 0,0625 m2, se tomó la planta de piña y el suelo a 20 cm de profundidad.
