Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of employer-delayed deposits to defined contribution plans on plan participant wealth. The history of regulatory oversight on the obligations of employers to remit deposits to defined contribution plans on behalf of employees is discussed. In light of these regulations, the paper discusses and examines situations in which employers may legally delay the deposit of employee contributions to a defined contribution plan and how the existence of various calendar anomalies may impact the returns of plan participants. The ability of electrons and atomic hydrogen (AH) to remove residual chlorine from PtCl2 deposits created from cis-Pt(CO)2Cl2 by focused electron beam induced deposition (FEBID) is evaluated. Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) measurements as well as thermodynamics calculations support the idea that electrons can remove chlorine from PtCl2 structures via an electron-stimulated desorption (ESD) process. It is, therefore, imperative to combat the problem of precipitation/deposition by approaches that focus on the stabilization of soluble forms of silica (mainly monosilicic acid, Si(OH)4). Abstract In order to implement an effective iron scale mitigation strategy, operators first need to identify the main source of iron in the system. Establishing the main source of Fe2+ in higher temperature sour wells where iron sulphide and iron carbonate are formed can be problematic. Many fields do not have reliable formation water composition and the analysis of produced water often does not allow us to draw clear conclusions when corrosion and scale formation occurs in the well. This work describes a method to predict the “maximum dissolved iron” (MDI) concentration in a reservoir/product

Abstract A Corrosion Management Framework is established to identify threats and define barriers during normal operation, shutdown and start up scenarios. It also provides basis for monitoring and inspection plans, KPIs to assess the barriers in place against the identified corrosion threats and help identify non-compliance to control and mitigate related risks. There are other mitigations done during construction to avoid premature failure, such as chemical treatment of water used in hydrotesting and nitrogen preservation. Learning from previous incidents can help future projects improve to a

Abstract Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is a term used to describe corrosive damage to metals caused by microbes. Corrosion damage is costly to operations, the environment and life. As such, monitoring for, and diagnosing MIC as part of a complete corrosion mitigation strategy is of paramount importance. Traditional MIC diagnostic techniques employ culture-based methods aimed at enumerating microbes presumed to be associated with MIC. Culture-based diagnostics are time consuming and may severely under estimate populations. Moreover, microbes mediating corrosion typically exhibit

Geophysical reassessment of the role of ancient lineaments on the development of the western margin of Laurentia and its sediment-hosted Zn-Pb deposits, Yukon and Northwest Territories. The role of crustal lineaments in the development of the western margin of Laurentia, Selwyn basin and associated sediment-hosted Zn-Pb deposits (clastic-dominated, Mississippi-Valley-type) in Yukon and NWT, are reassessed through a new 3-D inversion strategy applied to new compilations of gravity and magnetic data. Regionally continuous, broadly NE-trending crustal lineaments including the Liard line, Fort Norman structure, and Leith Ridge fault, were interpreted as having had long-standing influence on craton, margin, and sedimentary basin development. However, multiple tectonic overprints i

We investigate how the presence of physical bank branches moderates financial technology diffusion. Our identification strategy uses services suspensions caused by criminal groups that perform hit-and-run raids exploding branch facilities and rendering them inoperable for months. We show that the shock depletes the cash inventory of branches, but the stock of credit and deposits remain unaffected. We then document that customers increase their usage of noncash payments after the events. We investigate a new instant payment technology called Pix that was a remarkable success in terms of adoptio

This paper estimates the effect of financial development on the transmission of monetary policy. To do so, the paper employs a panel data set containing financial development indicators, policy rates, lending rates, and deposit rates for 43 countries for the period 2000-2019 and applies the empirical strategy of Brandao Marques et al. (2020): firstly, monetary policy shocks are estimated using a Taylor-rule specification that relates changes in the policy rate to inflation, the output gap and other observables that are likely to influencemonetary policy decisions; secondly, the residuals of th

We present a systematic investigation of computational approaches to the modeling of granular materials. Granular materials are ubiquitous in everyday life and in a variety of engineering and industrial applications. Despite the apparent simplicity of the laws governing particle-scale interactions, predicting the continuum mechanical response of granular materials still poses extraordinary challenges. This is largely due to the complex history dependence resulting from continuous rearrangement of the microstructure of granular material, as well as the mechanical interlocking due to grain morph
