Abstract:
During adolescence, sleep changes physiologically and biologically. It is during this period of life that development and learning takes place. However, new teenager sleep behaviors appear. A decrease in weekly sleep time and a jet lag during weekends contribute to the deterioration of teenager’s sleep. The use of new social media plays a detrimental role, with a strong negative correlation between time spent on those and sleep time. Teenagers suffering from sleep deprivation develop well-identified consequences such as diurnal fatigue, lack of attention, more anxiety, poor self-esteem, and also an increased risk of obesity and depression. Teenage sleep is a real public health issue.

AbstractThis paper uses a functionalist view of emotion to consider family factors that create risk for depressive symptoms in adolescents. Two adolescent siblings and their mothers were assessed for emotion regulation during autonomy-related communication tasks, whereas their mother's attachment- and intimacy-related functioning was assessed through interview and self-report. The results indicate that older teens' failure to establish autonomous stances during communication and their mothers' dissatisfaction with intimate relationships increase risk for teenagers reporting depressive symptoms. Further, mothers' preoccupation attachment-related issues was found to be associated with less autonomous communication from older teenagers. Implications of these findings and future directions for investigating the family factors associated with adolescent depression are discussed.

Abstract:
Due to the difficult process of social transition associated with the end of adolescence, this may create complications. For example, the issue of anti-social conduct in teenagers, as well as disagreements with parents, often result in conflict, ties of solidarity that may result in hazardous hazards and emotional illnesses such as stress, excessive anxiety, and depression. Anxiety disorder is a kind of emotional illness that may develop in late adolescence as a result of psychosocial causes. In which late adolescents react to stresses in an inappropriate and accurate manner. Anxiety disorders may impair the development of teaching and learning, since they lead people to suffer information processing distortion. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of excessive worry on the prevalence of sleeplessness in late teenage adolescents. The researchers will conduct an analytical observational study using a cross sectional design. Teenagers with anxiety were classified as having no anxiety by 71 individuals (88.8 percent), mild anxiety by 8 people (10.0 percent), and moderate anxiety by one person (1.3 percent ). According to the classification of insomnia, there were 48 individuals (60.0 percent) in the severe group, 18 teenagers (22.5 percent) in the very severe category, and 14 adolescents (17.5 percent) in the moderate category. There is a link between anxiety and the prevalence of sleeplessness in late teenage teens.

Abstract:
BackgroundDepression, which is a serious medical illness, is prevalent worldwide and it negatively impacts the adolescent lifestyle. Adolescent depression is associated with adverse emotional and functional outcomes and suboptimal physical health. Over the last decade, it has been found that approximately 9% of teenagers meet the criteria for depression at any given time, and one in five teenagers have a history of depression during adolescence. Ninety per cent of paediatricians believe that recognition of child and adolescent depression is their responsibility; however, it has been reported that 46% lacked confidence that they could recognise depression.MethodsIn this study, adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age were screened during their well-child visits using the Patient Health Questionnaire Modified for Adolescents. A score of 10 or higher warrants a referral to a social worker and psychiatrist. The goals of this quality improvement project were to implement a standardised questionnaire and to improve the screening, diagnosis and treatment of depression in children from 12 to 17 years of age.ResultsIt was found that the adolescent depression screening rate significantly improved within 6 months of implementing this quality improvement project. The screening rate improved to 50% by mid-cycle (Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle 3) and up to 70% at the end of the 6-month period (PDSA cycle 5). Improvement was noted among all providers, across all age groups, and in both male and female patients by the end of the study period.ConclusionStandardised screening tests with a scoring system help providers to identify and monitor depression symptoms using a common language, especially in the outpatient clinical setting where the patient may be seen by different providers.

Adults are often worried and somewhat shocked by teenagers’ behavior, and their way of learning, the so-called “Adolescence Disorders.” The lack of assertiveness of adolescents is the most important issue in the management of orthodontic treatment. With the desirable attitude of empathy in mind, for the majority of teenagers, the orthodontist will manage treatment in a quiet and optimal way. For 15% of them however, real problems such as anxiety, depression or personality disorders may appear. The use of CBT will be useful. The orthodontist must be empathetic enough to guide these young teenagers in their development, through their “mouth,” this organ is psychologically invested to fundamental symbols of life and learning.

Abstract:
The question, “why a pediatric dentist should be concerned about major depression among teenagers” is considered in light of reports from the National Institute of Mental Health. The results of these studies indicate that there is a progressive increase in the proportion of adolescents with a history of major depressive episodes; ranging from 6.4% among 12 year olds to 15% and 16% for 15–17 year olds. There are great variations by gender, race and ethnicity in the proportion of teenagers experiencing major depressive episodes and receiving needed care. In addition, there is an increased proportion of teenagers with disabilities who experience major depressive episodes. This combined impact is a reality for youngsters with disabilities as they pass through the teenage years into adulthood. Listing of symptoms of depression are provided to facilitate dental treatment planning, as well as well as assisting parents/guardians in seeking the overall needed care for their youngsters.

Abstract:
In the context of the viral spread of COVID-19 in 2020, Romanian authorities declared national confinement for two months. Our country faces a public health issue regarding adolescent pregnancy. This study assessed the predisposition of teenage mothers to postpartum depression and the influence of the viral pandemic on their emotional status. This study enrolled patients 10 to 19 years old who delivered in our department between March–December 2020. Teenagers were attributed to the “lockdown group” (n = 30) and the “open group” (n = 171). All study participants agreed to take an interview based on a three-part questionnaire, including the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). In the “lockdown group”, 16.67% of patients felt stressed over the last year compared to 11.11% of individuals in the “open group”, but there was no statistically significant difference between groups regarding overall EPDS scores (z value 0.51, Mann–Whitney U test). Predictable variables for postpartum depression were the use of cigarettes (OR = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.00–1.16), intended pregnancies (OR = 0.25, 95% CI: 0.09–0.68, p = 0.007) and absence of stressors in the last year (OR = 0.07, 95% CI: 0.02–0.30, p = 0.0002). More adolescents were stressed during confinement compared to those who delivered in the following time period; this aspect did not interfere with depression screening scores. A planned pregnancy, even during adolescence, can serve as a protective factor for postpartum depression.

Abstract:
AimsTo examine the association of adolescent depression and anxiety symptoms with daily smoking and nicotine dependence in Tunisians teenagers.DesignA cross-sectional study including teenagers (n = 162) from two colleges located in Gabes (south of Tunisia) and used a self-administered anonymous questionnaire. Adolescent depression and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale translated and validated in Tunisia. adolescent tobacco use was defined as: daily use (6 or 7 days per week) and the loss of autonomy over tobacco use was evaluated with the Hooked on Nicotine Checklist (HONC).FindingsThe prevalence of smoking was 61.7%. It was 92% for boys and 8% for girls. In our sample, 30.7% of teenagers used manufactured cigarettes and chicha; 93.8% of daily smokers had already lost control of their smoking. Their average score the HONC was 5.5 (gap deviation 2.4). Of these, 61.3% had a score greater than or equal to 5. Rates of anxiety and depression were respectively 43% and 20%. Nicotine-dependent adolescents were significantly more anxious than non-dependent: 68.3% vs. 48.7% (P = 0.04). We do not note significant differences between depressed teenagers and adolescents without depression, regarding nicotine dependence.ConclusionsSmoking is frequent among teenagers in Gabes. Adolescent smokers with anxiety symptoms are at increased risk for nicotine dependence. These results incite to pursue work that takes account of the specific diagnosis and treatment of tobacco dependence among adolescents, especially when psychiatric comorbidity makes smoking cessation more difficult.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

The aim: Study of somatoform vegetative dysfunction’ clinical features at adolescent age with a chronic pain (HA syndrome and AP syndrome), and also socially-psychological factors of its formation too. Materials and methods: There are 82 teenagers have been examined in this research: 48 girls (58,5 %) and 34 young men (41,5 %) at the age of 16 – 17 years. Research will be done according to diagnostic criteria of ICD-10. Results: An aetiological basis of HAS and APS are various somatoform disorder mostly at teenage age (70,8 % cases at girls and in 58,8 % – at young men). 32,2 % of the patients had various neurotic disturbances with anxiety-depressive symptoms in a genesis of HAS and APS. Somatoform vegetative dysfunction – the most widespread reason of HAS and APS development among teenagers. Among teenagers HAS cases (68,8 % – at girls, 58,8 % – at young men) essentially prevail over APS (31,2 and 41,2 % cases accordingly). All adolescents had combine negative life events in their life. Girls felt psychotraumatic experience more strongly than young man. The greatest combine negative life experience has been revealed in a subgroup of girls with HAS. The least influence of psychotraumatic factors was observed at young men with APS. Consequently, SVD, accompanied by severe pain in adolescence – is pathogenic complex and combined mental disorders, requiring adequate psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic intervention. Conclusions: Chronic stressful situations were experienced by each of the examined patients. Each of the teens noted combination of stress problems in their lives. The widespread common problem among the examined adolescents was a sense of being overprotected by parents. Consequently, SVD, accompanied by severe pain in adolescence –is pathogenic complex and combined mental disorders, requiring adequate psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic intervention.

Abstract:
The depression that has affected millions of patients and their families in the last decade has been one of the most common diseases of mind. However, almost all methods of medicating anxiety depend on series of questions evaluations and professional judgments of depressive symptoms, which are highly reliant on doctors’ experience and time-consuming. The aim of our research is to create an objective and practical method for detecting depression in adolescents using facial characteristics. The majority of teenagers are wholly unaware that they have been depressed. Some teenagers hide their depression from others, whether they are even aware of it. An automated system is needed to select the teenagers who face depression. Various research projects aimed at identifying depression are explored in this article.

Abstract:
BackgroundDepression is a leading cause of worldwide disability. Adolescence represents a key developmental window in which rates of this disorder increase markedly. Children with an anxiety disorder show a particular risk of developing depression during adolescence.MethodWe present and review evidence for a developmental model that considers the intersection of two vulnerabilities relevant to the trajectory from anxiety to depression: difficulties in response to potential social evaluation and changes in reward processing at puberty.ResultsEvidence suggests that these vulnerabilities (a) have been associated with depression, (b) are likely to be problematic in many, but not all, anxious youth, and (c) may be exacerbated by maturational processes that occur around pubertal development in ways that can create a negative spiral into a depressive disorder.ConclusionsWe discuss the possibility that early intervention strategies targeting key aspects of these vulnerabilities could alter the trajectory away from depression for many anxious youth.

Abstract:
In the article the issues of detection and clinical signifcance of affective symptoms of preclinical level in adolescence are discussed. Affective symptoms of the preclinical level are frequently masked by personality or behavioral characteristics, puberty manifestations. Quite ofen such adolescents remain out of sight of specialists with a high need for adequate medical and psychological assistance. Te purpose of this study was to identify the subclinical level affective symptoms in different groups of adolescents (subthreshold depression) and to study its clinical features. Tere were examined 659 adolescents 7-17 years old. We used clinical, psychological (depression scale M. Kovak) and statistical metods. A group of adolescents with a risk of developing depression was identifed (35.7%): with a «above average» level of depression’s risk (26.6%), with a high level (7.9%) and high scores on particular scales (1.2%). Adolescents in secondary schools, compared to the pupils in correctional schools, had signifcantly higher indicators on the total score and «Negative mood» and «Angelonia» scales in the group with a high risk of depression. Te indicators of the «Interpersonal problems» scale were high in all groups of students. Adolescents from urban schools are at the greatest risk of developing depression compared to both rural adolescents and correctional school pupils. In 10.3% of the pupils, the individual signs of affective disorders were identifed that signifcantly affected the quality of functioning, which we regarded as persons with subthreshold depression. including 15.8% urban, 10.8% rural, and 6.3% teenagers with disabilities. Tis group needs a dynamic observation and carrying out preventive measures with the obligatory involvement of the social environment — parents and teachers.

The present study applied item response theory to examine the psychometric properties of the Asian Adolescent Depression Scale and to construct a short form among 1,084 teenagers recruited from secondary schools in Hong Kong. Findings suggested that some items of the full form reflected higher levels of severity and were more discriminating than others, and the Asian Adolescent Depression Scale was useful in measuring a broad range of depressive severity in community youths. Differential item functioning emerged in several items where females reported higher depressive severity than males. In the short form construction, preliminary validation suggested that, relative to the 20-item full form, our derived short form offered significantly greater diagnostic performance and stronger discriminatory ability in differentiating depressed and nondepressed groups, and simultaneously maintained adequate measurement precision with a reduced response burden in assessing depression in the Asian adolescents. Cultural variance in depressive symptomatology and clinical implications are discussed.

Objectives. Adolescence is associated with increased depressive symptoms and decreased aerobic exercise, yet the relationship between exercise and clinical depression among adolescents requires further examination. This study assessed the feasibility of a 12-week intervention designed to increase exercise for adolescents with depressive disorders: Will a teenager with depression exercise? Methods. Participants were 13 adolescents with depression reporting low levels of aerobic exercise. They completed a 12-week intervention (15 supervised exercise sessions and 21 independent sessions). Exercise was measured through the aerobic exercise Questionnaire, actigraphy, and heart-rate monitoring. Depression was measured with the Children’s Depression Rating Scale, Revised, and Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology, Self-Report.Results. All participants who started the intervention completed the protocol, attending all supervised exercise sessions. Actigraphy verified 81% adherence to the protocol’s independent sessions. Analysis of secondary outcomes showed a significant increase in exercise levels and a significant decrease in depression severity. Initially, ten participants were overweight or obese, and three were healthy weight. After 12 weeks of exercise, the number of participants in the healthy-weight category doubled.Conclusions. Adolescents suffering from depression can complete a rigorous protocol requiring structured increases in aerobic exercise. Participants showed significant increases in exercise, and significant decreases in depressive symptoms.

Introduction: Depression is one of the most common mental disorders and a serious disease that plagues many people today who end up in this through their various problems. The prevention and treatment of adolescent depression is a major issue for the society and for this reason it is important to further study this issue.Aim: This study aims to explore research studies about teenagers’ depression and its effects as well as ways to prevent and address it. Moreover, it aims to seek all cultural and historical aspects of the individual and his/her family to further understand the issue. Material and Method: This is a systematic review of research studies in the electronic databases EBSCO, MedLine, Pubmed journals and books and articles referring to the issue of teenage depression. Results: This systematic review showed that depression is a daily occurrence that affects many people and that adolescents with depression tend to multiply rather than diminish. Among the most important methods of treatment are psychotherapy and reading books. Conclusions: Young people with depression problems find difficulties in their performance in school and society and often have changes in their eating habits as they stretch their weight very often. The consequence of all the above is often suicidal behavior and suicidal tendencies or even thoughts of suicide. So the necessary prevention is needed to avoid unpleasant situations.

Abstract:
Adolescence is the age of impetuous transformations, but also the age of crises accompanied by anxiety, insecurity, depression. When discrimination - a phenomenon that has certainly affected the lives of each of us - is added to them, the "route" of teenagers to the crystallization of self-identity becomes even more difficult. Awareness of discrimination and taking on the mission to prevent/combat it, by cultivating values and attitudes such as respect for diversity, equity, tolerance, solidarity, cooperation become, in this way, objectives of the school, achievable in the context of social education. Going in this direction, the RAINBOW project aims to promote social inclusion and positive EU values through capitalizing of non-formal education and its specific methods into the school education. Within this project, a research was carried out with a target group consisted of 1487 students and 254 secondary school teachers from six European countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Romania and Spain. From Romania, a group of 37 teachers and 267 students was part of this approach. The research method used was the survey based on questionnaire, and regarding the target group of teenagers students, the objectives included identifying their perception of discrimination, awareness of negative effects of social media, but also the importance of civic competences development. Referring to the need for a proper understanding of the phenomenon of discrimination, in this study we integrated some of the results of research conducted within the Rainbow Project, presenting some important data on teenagers' perceptions and experience on discrimination.

Abstract:
Background: Studies have shown that many Internet game players may have experienced Internet gaming disorder (IGD), which is thought to coexist with a variety of cognitive and psychological disorders, such as depression. A three-year, four-point longitudinal tracking study was conducted to examine the trajectory of IGD of Chinese early adolescents, as well as the predictive level of gender and depression for IGD. Participants (N = 316) completed questionnaires assessing IGD and depression at the time of the T1, T2, T3, and T4. This study adopted the widely used latent growth model for data analysis. The results showed that, in the early stage of adolescence, (1) the development trajectory of individual IGD was shown as a nonlinear latent variable growth model; the IGD was significantly higher than zero when teenagers were first measured (sixth grade); and, while on the rise, its growth rate is gradually slowing. (2) Gender can significantly predict the development trajectory of individual IGD. (3) Individuals with a high initial level of depression usually have a high initial level of IGD, individuals with a large range of depression display a large range of IGD, and those with a rapid rate of depression change show similar change in their IGD. In sum, this study provided an empirical basis for the prevention and intervention of IGD in early adolescents.

Abstract:
Background: “Stressbusters” is an interactive computer software programme based on a clinically effective face-to-face CBT protocol for young people with depression. It was designed for teenagers with mild to moderate depression, and comprises eight 45-minute sessions. Method: Twenty-three young people (aged 12–16; mean age 14.87 years) with symptoms of depression were recruited from CAMHS teams in Manchester and London, and received the Stressbusters treatment (range 1 – 8 sessions, mode 8 sessions). Results: On the K-SADS at initial assessment, 95% met diagnostic criteria for a depressive disorder, with a high group mean score of 35.48 (SD 9.84) on the MFQ. Post-treatment, 22% of young people met criteria for a depressive disorder, with the group mean score on the MFQ falling significantly below clinical cut-off to 20.32 (SD 11.75). These gains were maintained at 3-month follow-up. Significant improvements were also found in the adolescents' global functioning (CGAS), self-reported anxiety (RCMAS), depressive cognitions and attributions (ATQ and CTI-C), and in adolescent- and parent-reported emotional and behavioural difficulties (SDQ). Conclusions: Taken together, these results provide promising preliminary data for the clinical efficacy of Stressbusters as a valid form of CCBT for adolescents with depression.

Psychosomatic will attack individuals who respond to environmental conditions with excessive anxiety. COVID-19 is an infectious disease that comes suddenly so that people are not ready to face it both physically and psychologically, among the psychological conditions experienced by the community is a sense of anxiety. This anxiety is also experienced by teenagers because adolescence can be said to be an unstable age in the face of unexpected conditions. This study aims to determine the relationship between anxiety and psychosomatic tendencies in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic in Palembang City. The method used is descriptive quantitative with a total of 245 teenagers as respondents using a purposive random sampling technique. Data collection used the Instrument Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS 42) which were distributed online. Bivariate analysis was performed using chi-square and descriptive analysis using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) program. The results showed that there were 50.20% more adolescents in the age group 15-19 years old than the 20-24 years age group as much as 49,80%, 51,43% more than boys as much as 33.87%, adolescents are never anxious as much as 124 (50,61%) more than adolescents anxious sometimes as much as 84 (34,29%), often anxious as much as 29 (11,84%), and very often anxious as much as 8 (3,26%), 142 (57,96%) more psychosomatic tendencies than 103 (42,04%) psychosomatic tendencies, and there is a significant relationship between anxiety and psychosomatic tendencies (p-value 0,036) in adolescents during the COVID pandemic. -19 in Palembang City in 2020.

Abstract:
IntroductionAnxiety and depression, as well as alcohol use are widespread among teenagers, and constitute a huge public health burden worldwide.ObjectiveTo study the link between alcohol consumption and emotional distress (anxiety and depression) among adolescents.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional study in May and June 2016. The sample consisted of 314 pupils from 4 colleges and schools in Sfax (Tunisia). Alcohol Use Disorders Test (AUDIT) was used to evaluate alcohol dependence. Anxiety and depression levels were evaluated using the “Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale” (HADS).ResultsThe mean age was 16 years with a sex ratio of 1.08. Among the participants, 18.9% reported having drunk alcohol at least once and 42.37% of them still consume. The main reasons for alcohol initiation were the search of new experiences (78%) or pleasure and well-being (39%) and the curiosity (49.15%). According to AUDIT, 1.7% of alcohol users presented an alcohol misuse and 20% presented dependence. The prevalence of anxiety and depression were respectively 56.1% and 23.7%. Anxiety was correlated to alcohol experimentation (P = 0.03) and non-supportive environment (P = 0.003). Depression was correlated to alcohol experimentation (P = 0.001), AUDIT score (P = 0.009), somatic histories (P = 0.02), physical abuse (P = 0.02), non-supportive environment (P = 0.016) and graduating class level (P = 0.005).ConclusionOur study highlights the close association between alcohol consumption and emotional distress in adolescence, which seems to be bi-directional. When attempting to reduce the risk of alcohol consumption, we should focus a particular attention on adolescents studying in graduating class, reinforce adolescents’ family support and prevent physical abuse.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
The high levels of depression among teenage mothers have received considerable research attention in smaller targeted samples, but a large-scale examination of the complex relationship between adolescent childbearing and psychological distress that explores bidirectional causality is needed. Using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) and the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study—Birth Cohort, we found that teenage mothers had higher levels of distress than their childless adolescent peers and adult mothers, but the experience of teenage childbearing did not appear to be the cause. Rather, teenage mothers' distress levels were already higher than their peers before they became pregnant, and they remained higher after childbearing and into early and middle adulthood. We also found that distress did not increase the likelihood of adolescent childbearing except among poor teenagers. In this group, experiencing high levels of distress markedly increased the probability of becoming a teenage mother. Among nonpoor teenage girls, the relationship between distress and subsequent teenage childbearing was spurious.

Abstract:
Depression is a critical public health problem, mainly when it affects young people (adolescents). This condition is most challenging to detect in this group because they tend to think about other people's negative assumptions. Adolescents with depressive symptoms refuse to seek professional help due to their stigma and their future if they were labeled as depressed teenagers. Depression is a severe mental issue that should be detected from an early stage so that the problem can be curbed and resolved immediately. Diagnosis should be carried out to assess mental health, followed by referral to professional help. This study aims to motivate adolescents to diagnose depression levels through gamification techniques. Fifty-three secondary students participated in a survey designed in this study to measure motivation enhancement factors. The result of this study was used to develop a depression diagnosis model. The proposed model applied a gamification design technique consisting of three main ideas: gamification elements, user types, and motivational elements. This model will serve as the foundation to develop a mobile application system that can benefit users, especially adolescents, in self-diagnosing depression.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the description of the results of the investigation of relations between family representation and family identity in adolescents with their emotional state which was diagnosed with Beck Depression Inventory. Family representation was investigated with the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES-III) and modified projective methods “What is my family?” by M. Kuhn and T. McPartland. 249 boys and girls at the age of 10 to 17 took part in this research. There was revealed the relation of teenager’s emotional well-being to the specifics of their family values experience, family emotional estimate, idea of its cohesion and adaptability. The more points the subject had on the Beck Depression Inventory, the more negative family representation one demonstrated: there were more negative characteristics while family description, his dissatisfaction of family cohesion and adaptability level was higher. In addition the more negative emotion condition was diagnosed, the less cohesive and adaptive was his family for the teenager. Thus the relation between teenager’s family representation and family identity and his emotional well-being was confirmed.

Abstract:
Objective: According to the American Psychological Association, sexual orientation “refers to a stable pattern of emotional, romantic and / or sexual appeal towards men, women, or both sexes.’ The sexual orientation is the result of a complex interaction of environmental and cultural factors, as well as biological elements. Literature confirms that adolescents with homosexual and bisexual orientations have a higher levels of psychological distress (including depression and suicide) than other adolescents. This epidemiological pattern is largely due to the interpersonal problems that sexual minorities experience at home and at school. Design and Method: We describe and compare two young girls who came to our clinic. Results: parents of the first girl (J, 15 years old) asked for help for her homosexual relationship, that they didn’t accept. During the therapy she also had a heterosexual relationship. She suffered of eating disorders and self- injures. Parents are freezing, father sometimes is aggressive. Her homosexual relationship could be a reaction to a negative man’s image. The second girl (E, 16 years old) had a typical gender identity and had a heterosexual relationship. Now she doesn’t feel ease in her female body, she would transit to the other sex and she’s living a homosexual experience. Conclusions: therapy’s aim is to help them not to feel alone in this difficult travel, helping teenagers to integrate their sexual orientation in their own personality, developing a positive self-image, return them the possibility of stand in uncertainty and overcoming any forms of bias present in the society.

Adolescence is a period of development and a period of adjustment for adult life and a period of stress and stress is a time of turmoil and pressure. At this time, there was a shift in the role of peers who began to "shift" the role of parents. Parents have an impact on adolescent development through the application of authoritarian parenting that is rigid and strict when interacting with adolescents and not infrequently can create tension in the relation of adolescents with parents so that it can provide psychological effects indirectly. Purpose of the study: This study aimed to determine the relation of authoritarian parenting parents with stress levels and adolescent self-esteem. Research methods:: The method used in this study is a correlation with independent variables parenting and self-dependent variable in adolescents. The population in this study were adolescents in vocational high school as many as 218 respondents with a total sample of 141 respondents taken by stratified random sampling technique. The instrument in this study used the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale questionnaire and Rosenberg Self Esteem and for authoritarian parenting, the writer modified the questionnaire then validity test was conducted. The data was then analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: Showing that authoritarian parenting parents with stress levels have a relation with the results of the spearman correlation test rs = 0.002 and for authoritarian parenting parents and self-esteem there is no relation with the results of the Spearman rho correlation test = 0.139. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the authoritarian parenting style of parents and stress levels can be interpreted that parents who apply the type of authoritarian parenting to their teenagers tend to experience stress from mild to severe. There is no relation between parental parenting and adolescent self-esteem. Can be interpreted that the application of authoritarian parenting from parents in adolescents is not related to adolescent self-esteem. Suggestion: Provide positive support to adolescents to prevent adolescents from experiencing stress, and not limit every activity that teens like so that teens can socialize with their environment.

Abstract:
Introduction. Teenage pregnancy is a national health priority. Having to deal with pregnancy during adolescence can cause the mother, at an already vulnerable age, to doubt her maternal capacity to cope with a challenge of this magnitude. The teenage mother’s assessment of her maternal self-efficacy is associated with her performance, in other words, the way she relates and responds to the needs of her infant, which has major implications for the latter’s development. Objective. To study the association between personal (depressive symptoms, self-esteem) and environmental characteristics (social support, partner satisfaction) and those of the infant (problems with infant care, the infants’s temperament) and the perception of maternal self-efficacy (PME) in adolescent mothers. Method. Cross-sectional study. The following instruments were applied: Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), Post-partum Depression Predictors Inventory-Revised (PDPI-R), and Maternal Efficacy Questionnaire to 120 mothers under 20 during the first six months postpartum. Bivariate lineal regression and hierarchical linear regression analyses were used for the data analysis. Results. When adjusting for other variables, symptoms of depression and difficult infant temperament were associated with lower PME. Social support was only associated with increased PME in the bivariate analysis. Discussion and conclusion. These findings contribute to the limited literature on the subject and provide elements for designing strategies to improve adolescent mothers’ PME to encourage behaviors that are more relevant and sensitive to infants’ physical and emotional needs.

BackgroundLittle is currently known about the presence and impact of personality disorder in adolescents who self-harm.AimsTo evaluate personality disorder in repeated self-harm in adolescence and its impact on self-harm psychopathology and adaptation outcomes over 1 year.MethodA clinical referral sample (n= 366) of adolescents presenting with repeated self-harm aged 12–17 years, as part of a randomised controlled trial (Assessment of Treatment in Suicidal Teenagers study, ASSIST). Personality disorder was assessed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II (SCID-II). One-year outcomes included frequency and severity of repeat self-harm, self-reported suicidality, mood and functional impairment.ResultsAbout 60% of the referred adolescents showed one or more forms of personality disorder. Personality disorder was associated with significantly greater severity of self-harm, overall psychopathology and impairment. There was a complex association with treatment adherence. Personality disorder predicted worse 1-year outcomes in relation to self-harm frequency and severity, as well as impairment, suicidality and depressive symptoms.ConclusionsPersonality disorder can be reliably measured in adolescence and showed high prevalence in this clinical self-harm sample. Controlling for other variables, it showed a strong independent association with self-harm severity at referral and predicted adherence to treatment and clinical outcomes (independent of treatment) over 1 year. Consideration of personality disorder diagnosis is indicated in the assessment and management of adolescents who repeatedly self-harm.

We hypothesised that HRV investigation in adolescents may early prevent the mental diseases occurrence.MethodsThree hundred and thirty‐three seventh grade students participated in this study programme. HRV instrumental analysis and spectral with scale of depression were measured respectively.ResultsIt showed that among the participants, the depression score of female was higher than male. The population with lower depression score present with lower high frequency and higher low frequency/high frequency ratio but not statistically significant. Oppositely, participants with higher depression score were increased with heart rate and present with lower standard deviation of heart rate. However, it is also not statistically significant.ConclusionThis study supported the positive relation between HRV and depression, especially in the female gender. Therefore, HRV in depression may be beneficial in the detection and prevention of mental disorder development, even suicide behaviour in teenagers.

Abstract:The multiple sclerosis affects 46000 people in Spain and is suffered by young adults mainly. Nevertheless, nowadays numerous cases are discovered in the adolescence. EM’s diagnosis in this stage influences all the dimensions of his development. To avoid this impact and to manage to favor the adolescence development positively, it´s necessary to encourage the subject´s personal characteristics that helps in the disease´s adaptation and gets a quality of life. For this reason we have believed necessarily to approach the above mentioned characteristics from the positive psychology, with the aim to get an improvement the mood to personal and clinical level, as well as an increase in the sensation of the psychological and physical well-being across the Fierabrás preventive program. We intervened through a case study with two subjects (separately), evaluating the efficiency of the program with three instruments: HAD Scale, Authentic Happiness Inventory and SF-36 Questionnaire. The results indicate that the program appear to be effective in the teenager with EM in the treatment of the depression and certain dimensions of the psychological well-being. Though for the healthy teenager it doesn´t appear to be effective in the treatment of the anxiety and depression, it favors diverse dimensions of the psychological well-being.Key Words: Adolescence, multiple sclerosis, positive psychology, quality of life.

Major depression is a treatable and common mental health disorder for youth. Untreated depression is a major risk factor for youth who become suicidal and die by suicide. Recent focus in the school-based literature on creating universal mental health promotion programs have recognized the need for effective depression awareness education programs to assist youth in identifying symptoms of depression in themselves and their peers, and to encourage those youth to seek trusted adults for help. A quasi-experimental design (QED) was employed in two suburban Chicago high schools (n=652) to evaluate the intervention, Real Teenagers Talking About Adolescent Depression (RTTAAD), a video-based universal classroom discussion intervention created by clinical social workers, parents, and youth. The analysis showed that RTTAAD led to statistically significant changes in adolescent knowledge about depression and their stated willingness to seek help from trusted adults at 6-week follow-up compared to a control classroom condition. This study supports the notion that school social workers and other school mental health professionals need to allocate more time to primary prevention work to help build mental health awareness in their school communities and to help prevent depression and suicidal behavior.

Abstract:
AbstractBackgroundMental health literacy (MHL) refers to an individual's knowledge of mental disorders, including the ability to recognize psychopathology and being aware of help options. Most studies of MHL have focused on adults.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to examine levels of MHL among adolescents.MethodsMHL was examined using two pre-established vignettes that presented an adolescent with symptoms of either depression or schizophrenia. The respondents were 426 adolescents (age mean = 16). Vignette data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively.ResultsThe data showed that 42.7% and 34.7% of the respondents identified depression and schizophrenia, respectively. Depression was recognized more often by females than males. Professional help was suggested by a minority of the respondents for managing symptoms of depression (22.5%) or schizophrenia (32.6%). Altruistic behaviors, examined through the willingness to help an acquaintance with mental illness symptoms, were apparent among 58.2% of the respondents and to a greater extent in females than males. Answers following the schizophrenia vignette also revealed stigmatizing attitudes in 11.5% of the participants.ConclusionsThere are relatively low levels of MHL among teenagers in Sweden. Awareness campaigns and the implementation of psychoeducation in the school curriculum could increase MHL in this group.

Abstract:
Cyberbullying is a form of violence through bullying, harassment, bullying, humiliation, intimidation carried out using the Internet, mobile phones and other electronic devices. Cyberbullying is very common in modern society and causes significant harm to its victims, negatively affecting their mental and physical health. The purpose of this study is to identify in the Russian-speaking society the connections and properties of insecurity from cyberbullying and Internet addiction. The article shows that vulnerability to cyberbullying of adolescents is positively associated with Internet addiction and negatively with life satisfaction, while in girls it is also positively associated with stress, anxiety and depression, a craving for smoking and negatively associated with self-efficacy in affairs. Internet addiction of adolescents is positively associated with anxiety, depression and stress and negatively with self-esteem, life satisfaction and self-efficacy in business relationships, and in girls – also with self-efficacy in interpersonal relationships. Internet addiction in girls is stronger than in young men associated with insecurity from cyberbullying, with stress, with a decrease in self-efficacy in business and in interpersonal relationships, therefore, for girls, Internet addiction and insecurity from cyberbullying is more likely than for boys, is fraught with negative consequences. The connection between academic performance and Internet addiction turned out to be statistically insignificant, which differs from the conclusions of a number of foreign psychologists who found that there is a negative correlation between Internet addiction and academic performance. A negative relationship between academic performance and smoking in girls and a positive relationship between academic performance and stress in boys and girls were revealed. Craving for smoking in girls positively correlates with stress. Most of the relationships established in this study in Russian-speaking society between insecurity from cyberbullying and Internet addiction on the one hand and anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and craving for smoking are consonant with foreign results on the corresponding relationships of cyberbullying and Internet addiction.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Prevalence of PCOS is increasing among Indian women due to growing changes in environment and lifestyle and also due to awareness of symptoms and willingness to seek medical help. Six out of ten females diagnosed with PCOS are teenage girls. Studies have shown that the women with PCOS often suffer from psychiatric comorbidities including depression but the data regarding the prevalence of depression in adolescent Indian girls with PCOS are scarce. Aim: To find out the prevalence of depression and its associations among adolescent Indian girls with PCOS. Methods: This was a cross sectional, case-control study conducted in the Endocrinology department of a speciality hospital of North India. We evaluated 160 newly diagnosed adolescent PCOS girls aged between 13-19 years, diagnosed by Revised Rotterdam criteria. Control group included 80 healthy, age matched, non-PCOS girls. Detailed history, Anthropometric measurements and standard hormonal evaluation were done. Depression was assessed by administering Patient Health Questionnaire-Adolescents (PHQ-A), a self-administered questionnaire based on DSM IV criteria. PHQ-A score of >10 was considered as the threshold for significant depression. Statistical evaluation was done with SPSS and P value of <0.05 was significant. Results: Mean age of the patients was 16.3 +/- 3.2yrs. The frequencies of significant depression in PCOS and control groups were 36.5% and 11.9% respectively. PCOS adolescents having higher HOMA-IR value (p-0.03), higher hirsutism score (P-0.01) and higher BMI (p-<0.01) had a higher risk of significant depression. Menstrual irregularity, acne, dyslipidaemia, serum testosterone, 17-OHP, prolactin and serum TSH levels had no significant correlation with depression. Discussion: PCOS commonly prevails during adolescence, a phase when girls are more concerned about their physiology and physical health. Negative body image and chronic stress can lead to disturbed mental health. Our study by using a simple and patient friendly clinical tool the PHQ-A has found higher prevalence of depression (almost 3 times) in Indian adolescent PCOS girls as compared to controls and it significantly corelates with insulin resistance, hirsutism and obesity. PCOS puts tremendous burden, on both physical as well as mental health, especially in adolescents, due to its effects on physical appearance, self-esteem, fertility and also due to other long term metabolic complications associated with it. PCOS is an urgent health problem that needs careful assessment and appropriate treatment of its all aspects. Timely recognition of mental health issues in these girls can help with early interventions including referral to mental health specialists (if needful) and add to the wellbeing of these young girls. Conclusion: The initial evaluation of PCOS in adolescent girls should also include the assessment of mental health disorders.

Abstract:
Objective: Studies on the pharmacotherapy of adolescent major depression are limited but suggest that the illness is often resistant to drug treatment. We aim to report the use of lithium augmentation of venlafaxine in two teenagers with major depression. Clinical picture: Two 16–year-olds with major depression are described. Treatment: In both patients, the treatment involved trials of a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, venlafaxine, and psychotherapy preceded lithium augmentation of venlafaxine. The trial of venlafaxine alone had been short in one patient. Outcome: Combining lithium and venlafaxine was rapidly followed by marked improvement in mood and function. Conclusions: Augmentation of antidepressants should be considered in young depressed patients who fail to respond to adequate trials of new antidepressants alone.

Adolescent growth and development is influenced by 2 factors, namely internal and external factors. Internal factors are factors that influence the fulfillment of developmental tasks originating from within the individual, both physical and psychological, while external factors are factors that influence the fulfillment of developmental tasks originating from outside the individual self. There are several examples of external factors, namely biological and physical environment, psychosocial and depression, family and cultural factors, and economic factors. Psychosocial factors involve psychological and social aspects. The social aspect can be done without having to face to face directly or can be done online using social media. the freedom of a person to use social media causes various abuses of social media, for example cyberbullying. Cyberbullying in adolescents is influenced by several factors, namely personality type, perception of the victim, the role of parent and child interaction. The research aims to determine the relationship of personality types with the tendency of cyberbullying behavior in adolescents. The study was conducted on 10th grade high school teenagers in Malang. The sample was 126 students with a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using Eysenck Personality Questionare and cyberbullying instruments. Data were analyzed using Chi Square test. There is no significant relationship between personality types and the tendency of cyberbullying behavior in 10th grade teenagers in Malang with Asymp. Sig 0.128 or p-value> 𝞪 (0.05).

Abstract:
BackgroundMental disorders in children and adolescents have an impact on educational attainment.AimsTo examine the temporal association between attainment in education and subsequent diagnosis of depression or self-harm in the teenage years.MethodGeneral practitioner, hospital and education records of young people in Wales between 1999 and 2014 were linked and analysed using Cox regression.ResultsLinked records were available for 652 903 young people and of these 33 498 (5.1%) developed depression and 15 946 (2.4%) self-harmed after the age of 12 but before the age of 20. Young people who developed depression over the study period were more likely to have achieved key stage 1 (age 7 years) but not key stage 2 (age 11) (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.79, 95% CI 0.74–0.84) milestones, indicating that they were declining in academic attainment during primary school. Conversely, those who self-harmed were achieving as well as those who did not self-harm in primary school, but showed a severe decline in their attainment during secondary school (HR = 0.72, 95% CI 0.68–0.78).ConclusionsLong-term declining educational attainment in primary and secondary school was associated with development of depression in the teenage years. Self-harm was associated with declining educational attainment during secondary school only. Incorporating information on academic decline with other known risk factors for depression/self-harm (for example stressful life events, parental mental health problems) may improve risk profiling methods.Declaration of interestNone.

Abstract:
The incidence of depression in teenagers has increased for many years and is one of the most common diagnosis in adolescent psychiatry. Effective and accessible psychotherapy methods need sustained attention since psychopharmaceutic treatment might be less effective in younger people than in adults. The First Experimental Study of Transference–In Teenagers (FEST-IT) is a Randomized Controlled Study (RCT) with a dismantling design. The main intention in this study was to illustrate a way to address parts of a case formulation by focusing a psychodynamic feature in two different therapies with a good outcome suffering from depression. We present two representative patients from the FEST-IT with case formulations revealing conflicted anger. The patients were different in many aspects, as were the therapeutic methods. Therapies with and without transference interpretations may help to understand what is helpful in therapy in general. It may also show how a more individualized approach can guide the therapy beyond diagnosis and to make it more effective for the specific patient. Looking into individual cases with good outcomes can help us address dynamic features in therapy and give some ideas about what works for whom. The use of nested qualitative double case studies may together add more knowledge about working aspects in successful therapies.

Abstract:
Background. The problem of substance use among the population of different countries, and also in Ukraine, is one of the most significant among the leading medical and social issues of our time. It is characterized by a number of socio-economic features and related changes in the psychological climate among the population. Particularly seriously, these phenomena destroy still unformed personality of adolescents and young people. Objective – to develop new approaches to the prevention of addictive conditions of adolescents who use psychoactive substances through early diagnosis and timely medical and social care. Methods. The research methods were a unified map, a system of AUDIT-like tests to identify the characteristics of the use of psychoactive substances by adolescents, methods for determining personality and character accentuations, anxiety, depression and others. Results. Among the total number of respondents who use psychoactive substances (1374 people (91,6%)) the largest one was the group of people who used alcohol-containing substances – 92,3%. Mostly these were drinks with low alcohol content (beer, various low-alcohol, tonic drinks, fashionable in the modern youth environment), but were consumed systematically in large doses. Most adolescents when taking various psychoactive substances are mainly in the area of “safe use” (1-7 points) or “dangerous use” (8-15 points), but without harmful effects or states of dependence. However, with the most common types of psychoactive substances (alcoholic beverages, tobacco), some respondents switched to more severe forms of substance use, namely: “with harmful effects” or “dependent conditions”. According to the study, with smoking, the above transition is more intense. Among other psychoactive substances, the level of “harmful effects” is more often observed with the use of psychostimulants – 15,4% and 5,5%; respectively opiates (opioids) – 9,3%; cannabinoids – 5,6%. Conclusions. The research revealed certain characteristics of psychoactive substances of adolescence, which can be detected using AUDIT tests, which allow to obtain a description of the degree of use of psychoactive substances, assessment of pathopsychological and clinical-psychopathological features of certain prognosis for the future. The predisposing factor for the use of psychoactive substances is neuropsychological instability, accentuation of character (emotional, excitable, steroid, conformity and other types); peculiarity of behavioral reactions of adolescence (protest, grouping, emancipation, etc.) and other features of teenagers.

Abstract:
The evaluation and treatment of internalizing disorders in children and adolescents has a long and rich tradition in the psychology and clinical psychiatry of the child. However, the use of longitudinal data to elucidate the evolution and outcome of these conditions, as well as their assessment and treatment, is less developed in the embryonic development stage. However, there have been interesting developments and significant progress has been made. The emergence of the field of developmental psychopathology in the last 10 years (Achenbach, 1982, Cicchetti, 1984; Rutter & Garmezy, 1983; Sroufe & Rutter, 1984), with emphasis on the continuity and discontinuity of the behavior between the embryonic phase, childhood, adolescence, is particularly welcome and timely, providing a good concern for the future. The identification of the dimensions of the personality structure is very important during the adolescence period, because during this period the correct development of the adolescents is based on stimulating several areas in close connection with their activity. A balanced teenager chooses activities that contribute to character development, self-confidence, socializing skills, identifying passions and making decisions. Behavior disorder can be defined as persistent disruptive behavior, in which the young person repeatedly violates the rights of others or the social norms corresponding to the age. It is often preceded by opposition and defiance in the early years and may become more skewed during adolescence. Symptoms include property damage, lying or theft, harassment, breaking rules and aggression against humans or animals. Adolescents with behavioral disorders often have concomitant disorders, such as depression, suicidal behavior, and poor relationships with peers and adults. Consequences include school problems, school expulsions, academic and professional failure and problems with the law. Parents and families need support to help ensure that young people do not get away from school, and that severely affected adolescents should turn to mental health professionals for assessment and care.
