Yoga Nidra is a relaxation technique. The name “Yoga Nidra” derives from two Sanskrit words, “Yoga” which means union and “Nidra” which means sleep. Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness, guided by meditation. The goal of Yoga Nidra is to move into a deep state of conscious awareness sleep. In modern aspect this works with autonomic nervous system. General objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical effects of Yoga Nidra. Specific objectives were to identify the therapeutic effects of Yoga Nidra for psychological diseases and to identify the therapeutic effects of Yoga Nidra for physical diseases. Literature searches were carried out using the words Yoga Nidra; typed into popular search engines, including Google and Google Scholar to find out the therapeutic effects of Yoga Nidra within the period of 06 months was the methodology. The study showed that Yoga Nidra is beneficial in reducing mental diseases such as stress, anxiety, insomnia and post-traumatic stress syndrome, psychosomatic disorders and physical diseases such as hormonal imbalance, pain in diseases, migraine and Non communicable diseases; Diabetes mellitus, Hypertension and Cardiovascular diseases. Yoga Nidra has therapeutic effects, practice of it improves physical, mental and social well-being and it can be used as a preventive, promotive and curative technique were the conclusions of this study. Background Social media has transformed the way health messages are communicated. This has created new challenges and ethical considerations while providing a platform to share nutrition information for communities to connect and for information to spread. However, research exploring the web-based diet communities of popular diets is limited. Objective This study aims to characterize the web-based discourse of popular diets, describe information dissemination, identify influential voices, and explore interactions between community networks and themes of mental health. Methods This exploratory study used Twitter social media posts for an online social network analysis. Popular diet keywords were systematically developed, and data were collected and analyzed using the NodeXL metrics tool (Social Media Research Foundation) to determine the key network metrics (vertices, edges, cluster algorithms, graph visualization, centrality measures, text analysis, and time-series analytics). Results The vegan and ketogenic diets had the largest networks, whereas the zone diet had the smallest network. In total, 31.2% (54/173) of the top users endorsed the corresponding diet, and 11% (19/173) claimed a health or science education, which included 1.2% (2/173) of dietitians. Complete fragmentation and hub and spoke messaging were the dominant network structures. In total, 69% (11/16) of the networks interacted, where the ketogenic diet was mentioned most, with depression and anxiety and eating disorder words most prominent in the “zone diet” network and the least prominent in the “soy-free,” “vegan,” “dairy-free,” and “gluten-free” diet networks. Conclusions Social media activity reflects diet trends and provides a platform for nutrition information to spread through resharing. A longitudinal exploration of popular diet networks is needed to further understand the impact social media can have on dietary choices. Social media training is vital, and nutrition professionals must work together as a community to actively reshare evidence-based posts on the web.

Among the numerous plants indicated for the treatment of anxiety, it is worth highlighting Citrus aurantium popularly known as "bitter orange" or "sour orange". Studies show the influence of its essential oils and plant extracts on the central nervous system, especially in the control of anxiety and depression. Although the use of plants, as a form of disease treatment and prevention, is an ancient practice, their indications are often based especially on popular knowledge. Thus, scientific evidence and studies are needed to ensure safety and efficacy in the use of plant species. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism of action of Citrus aurantium in anxiety disorders. A bibliographical revision was carried out in health scientific databases using the descriptors “Citrus aurantium”, individually and, combined with the following descriptors “anxiety”, “central nervous system”, “mental disorders” and “mechanism of action”. Articles searched based on titles, abstracts, and year of publication (2010-2020), and those that did not address the anxiolytic effect of the species and/or its mechanism of action were excluded. We found 151 articles and considered for the review 16 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Although there are few works that study and prove the anxiolytic effect of Citrus aurantium, the vast majority of them only mention possible mechanisms of action. Analyzing the results reviewed, it was possible to observe that Citrus aurantium acts positively on anxiety, probably, as suggests the studies, through serotonergic pathway.

More than sixty scales have been developed for the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative pathology of the cervical spine from the perspective of neurological syndromes. The use of most of these in clinical practice is limited. The purpose of this study is to highlight the most popular scales for assessing degenerative changes of the cervical spine from the perspective of neurological syndromes in the diagnosis and determination of treatment tactics for single-segment stenosis of the spinal canal at the cervical level. The current clinical guidelines “Degenerative Spine Diseases” 2021 use the Neck Disability Index, the Visual Analog Scale, and the Frankel Grade among all scales. MEDLINE (PubMed) and Google Scholar were searched from 1972 to 2023 using the key words “cervical spine degeneration”. The initial search identified more than 13,000 articles. This review included 52 studies in which the analysis of clinical and neurological data was carried out using scoring scales for assessing neurological syndromes and functional status in degenerative spinal stenoses at the cervical level. The validity, reliability, and applicability of the scales in clinical practice were analyzed and compared. Based on the analysis of literature data, the most rational scales to use from the standpoint of validity, reliability, and time consumption are the Visual Analog Scale for pain assessment, the Neck Disability Index for assessing cervical radiculopathy, the European Myelopathy Score to assess cervical myelopathy, the Neck Pain and Disability Scale to assess functional outcomes, and the Hospital Anxiet y and Depression Scale for mental status assessment.

Alter ego is a condition of someone who creates a new character with a conscious state. Original character role play is a game to create new imaginary characters that is used as research material for identification alter ego accounts. The negative effects of playing alter ego are stress, depression, and multiple personalities. Current research only focuses on the phenomenon and impacts of a role-playing game. We propose a new method to detect accounts of alter ego players in social media, especially Twitter. We develop an application to analyze the characteristics of alter ego accounts. Psychologists can use this application to discover the characteristics of alter ego accounts that are useful for analyzing personality so that the results can be used to appropriately handle alter ego players. Most user profiles, tweets, and platforms are used to detect account Twitter. This research proposes a new method using bio features as input data. We crawled and collected 565 bios from Twitter for one month. We observe the data to search for unique words and collect them into a classification dictionary. In this research, we use the cosine similarity method because this method is popular for detecting text and has a good performance in many cases. This research could identify alter ego accounts and other types of Twitter accounts. From the detection results of alter ego accounts, it is possible to analyze the characteristics of Twitter accounts. We use a sampling technique that takes 30% of the data as testing data. According to the results of the experiment cosine similarity obtained an accuracy of 0.95.

Objectives #selfharm has been blocked by Instagram, but manoeuvring hashtags (e.g. #selfharn) are beginning to appear in order for secret non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) communities to communicate. The purpose of this study was to (a) determine the nature of the #selfharn conversation on Instagram, (b) analyze common properties of the visual content (i.e. images and videos; n = 93) tagged with #selfharn, and (c) discover what kind of environment the authors ( n = 50) of #selfharn were creating. Methods A multi-method approach was utilized for this study. Netlytic was used to generate a text and content analysis to examine the authors’ captions and comments ( n = 8772) associated with #selfharn (collected over a seven-day period). Results After removing #selfharn from the dataset, the text analysis revealed that #depression ( n = 3081) and #suicide ( n = 2270) were the most commonly used terms associated with #selfharn. Overall, 52% ( n = 4386) of the popular words/phrases related with #selfharn posts were categorized as ‘bad feelings’. Through manual coding, it was determined that the majority of #selfharn visual content ( n = 92; 99%) did not generate an advisory warning but did contain a wound ( n = 70; 75%). The #selfharn author analysis suggests that most were women ( n = 18; 36%) with a dark-coloured profile aesthetic ( n = 37; 74%) determined by an overwhelming amount of grey, black, blue, red, or purple colours. Conclusion According to the text and content analyses, #selfharn on Instagram may be contributing negatively to an online community of mental-health issues. More resources should be provided by Instagram to those who are involved in the NSSI Instagram community.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the motivations of cyberbullies and characteristics of cyberbullying on TikTok. Past research explains that a key indicator of cyberbullying is moral disengagement. Researchers found that the lack of empathy is a factor in cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can negatively influence the mental health of people according to research, and is oftentimes correlated with depression. However, these studies only focus on social media as a whole and do not highlight the comment culture of TikTok and the content of these comments. Therefore, a content analysis was conducted to analyze the words and creators used to convey hate. This study answered the following research question: “What are the characteristics of cyberbullying on TikTok based on the comments left on the content creator's posts?” The sample was selected through purposeful random sampling and the participants were split into two groups: the content creators and the commenters. There were 7 content creators and 37 comments. The content of the comments were coded and organized into eleven relevant codes. These codes were then categorized into three themes: Comments Regarding Creators’ Appearance, Comments Regarding Creators’ Intellect, and Comments Impacting the Creators’ Psychological Well-Being. To ensure the validity of this study the codes were peer reviewed and rich thick descriptions are provided to uphold the integrity of these comments. Commenters mainly used mockery as a way to humble content creators especially when the content creators were trying to uplift themes. The majority of these commenters utilize profile pictures that did represent themselves most likely to avoid the consequences of their comments. The population most comfortable commenting as themselves was black women, especially when it was under posts of other black women. The demographics of this study was limited and would be best if there was more diversity, the nature of comment sections based on ethnicities could have an influence on the hate comments. This study could be useful for the education system and parents because they deal with adolescents who may be experiencing cyberbullying on the popular social media site, TikTok.

Zebrafish have neuroendocrine and neurotransmitter systems similar to humans, as well as high genetic homology, and are rapidly becoming popular model organisms for modeling depressive-like conditions. Here, we discuss modern behavioral, pharmacological and genetic models of depression in zebrafish, their methodological applications and translational implications.

Objective To query the universality of affective disorder markers, particularly the level of consistency between DSM diagnostic criteria and the criteria implicit in popular diagnoses. Method Utilization of data from the Santé Québec (1987) survey to compare depression markers reported by respondents who identified themselves or were identified by a member of their household as “suffering from depression” and markers underlying DSM-III diagnostic criteria. Results A popular diagnosis of depression is implicitly different from a psychiatric diagnosis considering an inter-diagnosis similarity of 9.5%. Conclusion It is therefore important to become more knowledgeable about the markers underlying diagnosis of affective disorders.

BACKGROUND: Mass communication research suggests that the media influence both what a population thinks about and how it thinks about an event or situation by controlling what is covered and how topics are framed. One medium, popular women’s magazines, has published depression-related articles for decades. However, little is known about the content and frame of these articles. OBJECTIVE: The research sought to determine what women’s magazines published about depression between 1980 and 2000. DESIGN: Articles published on depression in the top eight circulating women’s magazines, between 1980 to 1985 and 1995 to 2000 were retrieved and analyzed using qualitative media analysis methodology. RESULTS: Between the two periods, the magazines increased the number of published articles on depression and increasingly framed it as a treatable but stigmatized illness. CONCLUSION: Women’s magazines, which regularly publish information on depression, have high circulation rates, resulting in millions of exposures to their messages. Psychiatric nurse-authors have an opportunity to influence these messages.

This article describes the impacts given by depression as mental health disorder and suicidal behavior towards Japan’s economy and social productivity. Depression and suicide have become one of the main causes of mortality among other health conditions in Japan. Both depression and suicidal behavior are non-communicable, yet both can influence psychological states of other people near the patient. Depression and suicidal behavior are challenging for countries with high mortality caused by suicide, especially towards those who also have ageing population like Japan. Hence, this article will analyze further costs faced by Japan along with reviewing policies taken to overcome their mental health challenges. This study uses qualitative descriptive design with case study method. This study also uses secondary analysis to answer mentioned challenges. Result shows that Japan faces economic loss to sustain their mental health expenses and psychological expenses for the family left by the victims of depression and suicide, as suicide trend is popular among adults and youths in Japan. Depression and suicidal behavior can also affect individual’s productivity. The authors expect that this can be used to give broader knowledge on non-traditional contemporary global issues.

Although the Fathers of Internal Medicine described melancholia and wrote extensively about the affective disorders, internists continue to have difficulties diagnosing their medical patients' depressions. Consequently, it often falls to the psychiatric consultant to make the diagnosis amongst the medical population. We present current concepts of affective disorder that should be clinically relevant to the psychiatrist who works with internists and their patients. Early, accurate diagnosis of depressed medical patients requires increased awareness of depression, observation of the patient's appearance and mood, sensitivity to his or her feelings, and specific questioning about symptoms, losses, and stressors. For depressed medical patients, we present a comprehensive treatment program which often should include: 1) supportive psychotherapy, 2) antidepressant medications; and 3) resocialization or rehabilitation. We outline certain indications for psychiatric referral, and urge psychiatrists and internists to work together closely. Increasing the sensitivity of our colleagues in internal medicine toward affective illness should lead to more prompt identification and treatment of medical patients' depressions.

Japan has one of the world’s highest rates of psychiatric institutionalization, and popular images of mental health care and public attitudes toward mental illness there have been stigmatized for decades. However, there are transitions underway that are reshaping the mental health care landscape as well as affecting public representations of mental illness. Those transitions include attempts to promote community-based care, move away from long-term hospitalization, reduce stigma, increase utilization of services, and bring clinical psychological services under the national health insurance umbrella. This article discusses one cultural representation in which those transitions are brought into relief: a 2002 television series entitled PsychoDoctor that portrayed the clinical practice of a psychiatrist. The article analyzes the messages inherent in the series about the nature of mental illness, the everyday-ness of sufferers, and the expanded repertoire of treatments now available. In so doing, the article suggests that the efforts of progressive clinicians, pharmaceutical companies, and mental health activists to put forth new images of mental illness and mental health care are now having a degree of success in the arena of popular culture.

Depression is a serious mental illness. Depression is usually characterized by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, anxiety, restlessness, and even loss of life. However, not everyone who experiences depression can get professional treatment. If depression is left unchecked, it can worsen the mental health conditions experienced by a person. Social media, one of which is the increasingly popular twitter can be utilized to help deal with the problem of undetected mental illness. Based on tweets made by a person twitter social media can be one of the sources to detect depression using the XLNet method. XLNet is one of the NLP (Natural Language Processing) techniques based on machine learning models on text. Based on several tests that have been carried out during the research such as testing various tuning hyper-parameters with different values on the XLNet model, it achieves a good performance value with an average accuracy value of 93.33%.

Considering the evidence across selected reviews, school-delivered mental health promotion and illness prevention interventions show to have small and modest effects in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. More research is required to find out what works best, for whom and under which circumstances.

Murakami Ryū and Japan’s Lost Decad
While the Japanese writer Murakami Ryūs earlier works are concerned with shock and boredom, his works from the 1990’s display an interest in apocalyptic fantasies in order to start society afresh. This article examines two of these novels – Popular Hits of the Showa Era (1994) and In the Miso Soup (1997) – and discusses this tendency in the context of Japan’s Lost Decade, the economic depression that began in the early 90’s and has continued into this millenium. Drawing upon Martin Heidegger’s notions of Das Man, anxiety and homeliness, the article discusses how the novels critique their contemporary society and how they frame possibilities for politics and for a new start.

Существует тенденция считать все психопатологические симптомы у таких пациентов проявлениями умственной отсталости. Диагностический процесс затрудняет также частота атипичной картины депрессии. Аффективные расстройства у такихпациентов могут быть недиагностированы, что оказывает непосредственное влияние на качество оказания им медицинской помощи. Для оценки симптомов депрессии у пациентов с умственной отсталостью могут быть использованы инструменты, как используемые в общей популяции, так и специально разработанные. В статье перечислены наиболее популярные методы психодиагностики депрессии у лиц с умственной отсталостью. При выборе метода психодиагностики важно учитывать степень умственной отсталости, способность пациентов к вербализации своих переживаний. Своевременная диагностика депрессии существенно улучшит качество оказания медицинской помощи пациентам с умственной отсталостью. Almost all mental and behavioral disorders can be diagnosed in patients with mental retardation, including the frequency of depression, which, according to various sources, ranges from 2.2% to 15.8%. There is the tendency to regard all psychopathological symptoms in such patients as manifestations of mental retardation. The diagnostic process is also complicated by the frequency of the atypical picture of depression. Affective disorders in such patients may not be diagnosed, which has a direct impact on the quality of medical care provided to them. To assess the symptoms of depression in patients with mental retardation, both the tools used in the general population and specially designed tools can be used. The article lists the most popular methods of assessment of depression in persons with mental retardation. When choosing a method of assessment, it is important to take into account the degree of mental retardation, the patients’ ability to verbalize their experiences. Timely diagnostics of depression will significantly improve the quality of medical care for patients with mental retardation.

The prevalence of depression or mental health problems among Malaysians has been quite worrying since the occurrence of Covid-19 pandemic followed by the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed by the government to curb the pandemic. Awareness about mental health problems has become more popular and news about it often spreads across newspapers and other mass media. Moreover, the emergence of various kinds of new media during this era of fourth industrial revolution plays a role in influencing the people’s perception. One of the most influential new media is Twitter which has the advantage of becoming one of the most popular and far-reaching social media platforms. It has indirectly provided space for them to use Twitter to exchange their opinions and views regarding mental health problems. Hence, the influence of Twitter on mental health issues has become very significant and needs to be investigated. Therefore, a preliminary study was conducted to identify the role of Twitter in influencing people as well as the function of Twitter in helping people dealing with the problem of depression. This study used a qualitative method where data collection methods such as library research methods, interview methods and text analysis methods were employed. In addition, this study also used a data analysis method. The results of the study found that Twitter as a very influential medium to spread information and programs related to mental health, share experiences or anything issues pertaining to depression. In addition, the function of threads in Twitter facilitates the search for information sources related to depression. In conclusion, new media such as Twitter is very impactful as a medium of spreading awareness and knowledge in dealing with the problem of depression in the community.

Despite growing concern with rural elderly populations, little attention has focused on their mental health, ways it may correlate with physical health, or how rural mental health patterns compare to urban. Popular wisdom contends that elderly people in general, and rural elderly persons in particular, are at increased risk for mental illness. This article examines these questions. A review of available literature suggests that elderly people may be at only slightly greater risk of mental illness than the population at large, though there are some indications that rates of depression may be somewhat higher among the elderly population. Much of this same literature implies that objective environmental conditions play a significant role in the incidence of depression. Analysis of data gathered in a statewide random poll ( N = 743) indicates that while physical health tends to be poorer among rural populations, when health is held constant there is actually an inverse relationship between age and depression. Therefore, rural elderly persons are no more likely to be depressed than their urban counterparts despite harsher living conditions. Both conceptual and policy implications are discussed.

Abstract In the early 1930s Aaron Copland began to compose in an accessible idiom he described as “imposed simplicity.” Many works written within this style, including El Salón México, the Fanfare for the Common Man, and the Third Symphony, have come to epitomize a nostalgic Americanism and sentimental populism. Yet the relatively simple surface of Copland's music belies a complex aesthetic ideology that owes to a tradition of progressive politics in the context of the Popular Front. Recent revisionist historiography understands the Front as a cultural force extending from the late 1920s through the war years and advocating a social-democratic politics, reform of corporate capitalism, and multiethnic solidarity. These ideals can be read in the aesthetic ideology of Copland's music of the same era. El Salón México (1932), for example, draws upon working-class ethnic culture to mount a critique of industrial modernism, while the Third Symphony (1946) and its hommage to the “common man” evoke a radical populism to project a progressive vision of social justice. In contrast to portrayals of the composer as merely sympathetic to the cultural forces of depression and war, Copland was a politically engaged and ideologically aligned artist working within what historian Michael Denning has called “the cultural front.”

Despite consensus that physical fitness (PF) plays an important role in promoting mental health and academic achievement, little is known regarding the mechanisms by which this effect works. Blair, Cheng, and Holder (2001) proposed a conceptual model to identify the behavioral mechanism of health outcomes, in which both health-related PF and skill-related PF were identified as the direct determinants of health outcomes. Guided by Blair and colleagues’ model, the primary purpose of this study was to examine the association between health-related PF, skill-related PF, depression and academic achievement among adolescents. The second purpose was to investigate whether depression would mediate the association between physical fitness and academic achievement among this population. A total of 144 adolescents (M age = 14.55, SD = 0.62) were recruited from two middle schools. Health-related PF was significantly associated with depression, and skill-related PF was related to academic achievement. Mediation analysis supports the statistically significant indirect effect of depression on the relation between health-related PF and academic achievement. The findings suggest that individuals who are physically fit and show positive mental functioning may have better academic achievement during adolescence.

During the Chatchai Government in the 1980’s, Thailand had witnessed unprecedented growth in the country’s economy. In 1997, however, the economic prosperity that the Thai had enjoyed blasted like bubbles. This economic downturn had resulted in an unemployment of over 2 million people. While most people talked about the dark side of this economic crisis, the author saw some glimmering bright side of the downturn. This was the time, the author argued, to heal the national illness by using culturally-based therapy: Buddhist meditation. This illness was of two kinds: (1) depression and anxiety from being “losers” in the turmoil; (2) materialism and consumerism which needed a longterm therapeutic measure.

Depression is a mental illness that suffers people in their thoughts and daily activities. In extreme cases, sometimes it leads to self-destruction or commit to suicide. Besides an individual, depression harms the victim's family, society, and working environment. Therefore, before physiological treatment, it is essential to identify depressed people first. As various social media platforms like Facebook overwhelm our everyday life, depressed people share their personal feelings and opinions through these platforms by sending posts or comments. We have detected many research work that experiment on those text messages in English and other highly-resourced languages. Limited works we have identified in low-resource languages like Bengali. In addition, most of these works deal with a binary classification problem. We classify the Bengali depression text into four classes: non-depressive, mild, moderate, and severe in this investigation. At first, we developed a depression dataset of 2,598 entries. Then, we apply pre-processing tasks, feature selection techniques, and three types of machine learning (ML) models: classical ML, deep-learning (DL), and transformer-based pre-trained models. The XLM-RoBERTa-based pre-trained model outperforms with 61.11% F1-score and 60.89% accuracy the existing works for the four levels of the depression-class classification problem. Our proposed machine learning-based automatic detection system can recognize the various stages of depression, from low to high. It may assist the psychologist or others in providing level-wise counseling to depressed people to return to their ordinary life.

The purpose was to assess the validity of the DEPS in various subgroups of patients.Materials and methodsPrimary care patients, aged 18–64, completed a postal questionnaire including the DEPS. Of the 1643 patients all screen-positive subjects and every 10th screen-negative subject were invited for interview (the Present State Examination, PSE). Complete DEPS scores were available for 410 patients. They were grouped by gender, age, marital status, perceived physical health, basic education and the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) score. Separately for each subgroup, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were done, sensitivity, specificity, area under the curve (AUC), predictive values and likelihood ratios were calculated, and Cronbach's α was estimated.ResultsThe DEPS was valid in general, but best for patients with basic education longer than 9 years.DiscussionThe key statistical figures for the DEPS were comparable to the figures for other short self-rating scales.ConclusionThe DEPS is a valid case finder for primary care patients in the age group 18–64 years, and especially suitable for more highly educated patients. Future studies comparing the DEPS with other simple depression rating scales are needed.

Depression is the third leading cause of morbidity in the world, and could reach first place by 2030. Women have twice the risk of developing depression than men. Postpartum depression (PPD) is considered a public health problem, due to the influence of mother and baby, hindering healthy interaction between mother and newborn. The general objective of this literature review was to analyze the role of nursing professionals in coping with PPD. The methodology used was an integrative bibliographic review, carried out in the LILACS, BVS, SCIELO and PUBMED databases of works published in the last nine years. The descriptors that guided the research were: postpartum depression; nursing care; humanized assistance; as well as its English developers. 12 articles were found using the described method The articles showed that the main complications for mother and baby are: difficulty in self-control, in the child's interaction with society due to the form of the dyad relationship, which may develop nutritional problems, in the quality of the baby's sleep, in brain activity, in self-esteem, motor skills, language, as well as breastfeeding and has a greater chance of developing depression and anxiety in adult life. It is concluded that it is essential that nurses are able to identify the signs and symptoms of PPD early and thus provide quality care to women who have recently given birth, which always changes the quality of life of the mother and baby.

Effective pharmacological management of depression resistant to antidepressant medication is best carried out in the context of a supportive and collaborative relationship, following a mutually agreed care plan. Simpler pharmacological approaches such as switching antidepressant classes are tried first, then augmentation is used if needed. New classes of antidepressants have made antidepressant combination a popular augmentation strategy, but lithium addition has most supporting evidence. The use of atypical antipsychotics as augmenting agents is increasing. For patients unresponsive to these strategies, monoamine oxidase inhibitors and electroconvulsive therapy remain important. Large randomised pragmatic trials are needed to help clinicians and patients make better treatment choices.

Light therapy (LT) has become increasingly popular in various countries around the world in the last decade. For instance, according to a recent survey carried out in Germany in 1992, 13% (n = 56) of all German psychiatric hospitals (n = 422) used LT for different treatment indications and another 8% indicated their interest to do so. Among university facilities LT is even more popular, with a percentage of 57%. Although the most frequently used treatment indication for LT is seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or its subsyndromal form (S-SAD) it is apparent that other forms of depression e.g. non-seasonal forms, either acute or chronic are also a target for this new treatment modality. There is a number of studies supporting the use of LT for SAD (for review), however there are just a few studies for non-seasonal depression or for the other treatment indications (for review).

By adopting the corpus-based approach, the present study compares the frequency of use, semantic distribution, and stance expression of shell nouns in the “N + that” clause in popular science discourse compared with academic writing. The results show that, firstly, the frequency of use of shell nouns in the “N + that” clause in popular science is lower than that in academic discourse. Secondly, the semantic coverage of shell nouns in popular science discourse is smaller than that in academic discourse, but its semantic proportion distribution is roughly the same, mainly including mental and linguistic shell nouns. Thirdly, in popular science discourse and academic discourse, the proportion of shell nouns with epistemic stances occupies an absolute advantage, while the proportion of shell nouns with attitudinal stances is less. The proportion of shell nouns expressing attitudinal stance in popular science discourse is greater than that in academic discourse.

Introduction.Depression occurs in approximately 40% of patients with Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease is commonly associated with psychiatric morbidity, which includes depression, anxiety, and dopaminergic psychosis. These compound the patient's predicament. Fortunately, a variety of effective treatments are available.Objective.The purpose of this e-poster is to provide an update of the research regarding depression in Parkinson's disease.Methods.Describe a case report. A 56-year-old man, with previous diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. We used SSRIs, but they was not enough to successful treatment so we decided to use ECT.Results.Our patient failed to respond to medication or develop intolerable medication side effects. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) should be considered for this group of patients. Contrary to popular belief, ECT is a widely used and safe treatment for depression when medication fails. ECT has been shown to be effective and safe in PD for treating both depression and dopaminergic psychosis. Several studies also report varying periods of motor improvement following ECT in PD. A study is currently underway at UBC to examine this phenomenon in a controlled setting. ECT improves depression, may permit a reduction in antidepressant medications, and has intrinsic antiparkinsonian properties.Conclusions.ECT, has repeatedly been shown to have beneficial effects in PD, but has never gained acceptance as a clinical treatment option. Depression is the most prevalent mental health problem among the elderly, including Chinese-American elderly. A Chinese-language version of the popular Geriatric Depression Scale Long Form (GDS-LF) and Short Form (GDS-SF) was developed. Based on the responses of 50 elderly Chinese immigrants to the U.S. (25 women and 25 men), the GDS-LF evidenced high internal consistency but the GDS-SF did not. Factor analysis was then used to develop a new version of the GDS-SF, which was internally consistent. The revised GDS-SF is an important and easy-to-administer tool for community screening of depression among elderly Chinese immigrants.

The study of mirror neuron functions is an important problem of modern neurophysiology. According to the currently popular hypothesis, mirror neurons can serve as the neural basis for interpreting actions, mimicking the learning process, and imitating other people’s behavior. However, not all researchers share this view point. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of mirror neurons in interpreting the actions and intentions. The aim of the research was to study the activity of “motor” and “communicative” mirror neurons, as well as cortical interactions at the frequency of the mu rhythm in men and women when observing and reproducing the rhythm, as well as when observing and pronouncing words. Depression of mu rhythm EEG cortical interactions at the frequency on the mu-rhythm band and the results fMRT brain scanning were used as mirror neuron activity markers. The electroencephalographic study involved volunteers, practically healthy men (31) and women (34), students aged 18 to 23 years. During the preliminary examination, we used the Annett questionnaires to identify the leading hand. In the first series, the subject observed the operator’s hand and at the start memorized a five-second rhythm, then with the middle and forefinger of the dominant hand reproduced this rhythm, periodically pressing the space bar. The period of the rhythm was set by a visual stimulus (a white square with a side of 2 cm, periodically appearing for 200 ms in the center of the black screen). In the second and third series, the subject at the start memorized a fivesecond rhythm, after which he reproduced this rhythm with the fingers of his left hand, and then with the right hand. In the fourth series, the subject watched the operator who silently uttered the word “RAZ” with his lips only when the stopwatch hand on the monitor screen crossed divisions 0, 5, 10, etc. seconds. In total, the stopwatch hand made 5 revolutions. In the fifth series, the subject himself silently pronounced the word “RAZ” at the indicated times. Before performing the proposed activity and during its implementation, EEG was recorded monopolar in the frontal (F3, F4, Fz, F7, F8), central (C3, C4, Cz), temporal (T3, T4, T5, T6), parietal (P3, P4, Pz) and occipital (O1, O2) leads according to the “10-20%” system. When processing the obtained data, the maximum values of the cross-correlation functions were calculated and the spectral power was estimated for short (1.5 s), free of artifacts EEG recording segments before 3 s (“Background”) and 1.5 s (“Preparation”) until the moment of transitive action (pressing a key) or speech action and immediately after the specified event 1.5 s (“Performing an action”). In a part of the experiments in the series, observation and reproduction of the rhythm and observation and pronunciation of words allowed us to study the activity of the brain using the fMRI method. These studies involved volunteers: 20 men and 20 women, aged 19 to 27 years, university students. During the preliminary examination, using the Annett questionnaire, the leading hand was identified. The fMRI results were obtained on a SIEMENS Magnetom Verio 3 Tesla tomography. All fMRI data were pre-processed using the SPM8 package. Within each of the paradigms, pairwise comparisons were performed based on Student’s t-test and individual and group maps were obtained with a significance level of P < 0.001. All obtained statistical maps were plotted on a template T-1 image and anatomical binding of the “active” voxels to the CONN atlas was made. Our studies have shown that cognitive activity associated with the observation and reproduction of the rhythm, with the observation and pronunciation of words (See Fig. 2, 3, 5 and 6), is accompanied by depression of the mu rhythm at certain frequencies and, most often, an increase in the levels of cortical connections at the frequency of this rhythm between the central and other zones of the cortex. The nature of these changes significantly depends on gender differences, the frequency of the mu rhythm, as well as the type and stage of the performed activity (See Fig. 1 and Fig. 4). The results of fMRI scanning of the brain showed that the observation of transitive actions associated with the reproduction of a five-second rhythm and speech actions associated with the pronunciation of words is accompanied by the activation not only of those areas of the cortex where the corresponding “motor” or “communicative” mirror neurons are located, but also other zones of the associative, sensory and motor cortex, as well as the basal ganglia (See Fig. 2 and Fig. 5). The obtained data indicate that mirror neurons by themselves do not provide an understanding of actions and intentions, although they take part in these processes. It is assumed that mirror neurons are involved in mediating interactions between the prefrontal cortex, sensory and motor cortical regions, as well as storage sites of motor programs in the brain. The interaction of these structures appears to result in an understanding of actions and intentions of other people. This «mediating” function of mirror neurons allows us to understand their involvement and activity in observing, performing and mental reproducing of actions. The conclusion from this research is that social media is very important in the spread of mental health. It can be seen from the data above that almost all people in the modern era now use social media, from children and teenagers to the elderly. Various social media content that talks about mental health can get a lot of followers and can help them recover from the depression they are experiencing.

In this regard it is worrisome that a number of scientific studies, both old and new, have implicated the overconsumption of choline (a main ingredient of lecithin) in the causation of depression. The article discusses some of these concerns and proposes simple remedies.

Abstract. Background: Social networking about depression can be indicative of self-reported depression and/or can normalize risk behaviors such as self-harm and suicidal ideation. Aim: To gain a better understanding of the depression, self-harm, and suicidal content that is being shared on Tumblr. Method: From April 16 to May 10, 2014, 17 popular depression-related Tumblr accounts were monitored for new posts and engagement with other Tumblr users. A total of 3,360 posts were randomly selected from all historical posts from these accounts and coded based on themes ascertained by the research team. Results: The 17 Tumblr accounts posted a median number of 185 posts (range = 0–2,954). Content was engaged with (i.e., re-blogged or liked) a median number of 1,677,362 times (range = 0–122,186,504). Of the 3,360 randomly selected posts, 2,739 (82%) were related to depression, suicide, or self-harm. Common themes were self-loathing (412, 15%), loneliness/feeling unloved (405, 15%), self-harm (407, 15%), and suicide (372, 14%). Conclusion: This study takes an important first step at better understanding the displayed depression-related references on Tumblr. The findings signal a need for suicide prevention efforts to intervene on Tumblr and use this platform in a strategic way, given the depression and suicidal content that was readily observed on Tumblr.

The article analyzes books in the field of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) taught in the Deoband schools. The subject of fiqh is taught for eight years in educational centers belonging to Dar al-Ulum Deoband. All the books selected as textbooks in the field of fiqh are works recognized by the Hanafi madhhab. These works are considered basic literature not only in Deoband educational institutions, but also in centers of religious education in other countries, such as Turkey and Central Asian countries, where the Hanafi school is taught. In the Deoband educational system, the books of the Hanafi school were selected based on their volume and content in order to teach fiqh on a step-by-step basis. In the first year “Nur al-Idah”, in the second year “Masail al-Quduri”, in the third year “Sharh al-Uqayya”, in the fourth year “Kanz al-Daqaiq”, and in the fifth, sixth and seventh years the book “Al-Hidaya” by Imam Al-Marginani, which is very popular in Central Asia, is taught in full. And in the eighth year, which is called “Tahassus”, some issues are selected from Imam Ibn Abidin’s “Hashiya” and researches are conducted on those topics. This article provides extensive information about the above-mentioned fiqh books. The names of those books and the chain of teachers of the authors are given, and their connections with the Kazakh country are determined. The library and manuscript funds of Kazakhstan also contain information about how much they are preserved. In conclusion, it is said that the works guided by the teaching of the Hanafi Madhhab in Deoband educational institutions are no different from the works in other countries that teach the Hanafi Madhhab.

Research indicates that university and college students are at higher risk of experiencing mental health problems than other populations. This study aims to examine the relationship between Physical Activity (PA) and the mental health of Ukrainian university students during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic lockdown. The conventional sample consisted of 1512 students from 11 Ukrainian universities, with a mean age of 20 years (M = 20.06, SD = 3.05) and 69% of whom were female. The cross-sectional online survey was disseminated through the most popular social media channels in Ukraine (i.e., Facebook, Viber, Telegram) and included the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale to measure anxiety and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) to assess depression. Data were collected from 14 May to 4 June 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Ukraine. Among university students, 43% were engaged in PA ≥ 150 min weekly, 24% met the criteria of GAD, and 32% met the criteria of depression. More students were involved in PA before the COVID-19 outbreak than during the national lockdown. Students with anxiety and depression were almost two times less likely to engage in PA than their counterparts without mental health disorders. The inactive group had higher scores of anxiety and depression than the physically active group. The relationship of PA with anxiety and depression was statistically significant but weak during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Coffee is one of the most popular beverages globally. People often drink coffee for its caffeine content and its stimulating effects. However, excessive coffee consumption, like any other dietary or behavioral excess, can negatively affect physical and mental health. This study investigates the association between excessive coffee use and mental problems. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 392 respondents in Aceh, Indonesia. Excessive coffee use was measured using a questionnaire, while mental illness was screened using DASS-21. Other sociodemographic variables were also examined and treated as possible predictors. The prevalence of excessive coffee use (>400 mg per day) was 15.6%. The prevalence of depression was 23.2%, anxiety was 40.8%, and stress was 12.8%. The amount of caffeine consumption was correlated with depression (rs = 0.11, p = 0.01), anxiety (rs = 0.13, p = 0.001), and stress (rs = 0.14, p = 0.001), indicating that as the amount of coffee consumption increased, the score of mental problem also increased. The study established a noteworthy correlation between caffeine intake and mental health, suggesting that as coffee consumption increased, so did the scores for depression, anxiety, and stress. These findings underscore the importance of considering coffee consumption habits and their potential impact on mental well-being in clinical and public health contexts.

This paper briefly discusses the problematic issues of copyright for works created by the most popular and fastest growing chat bot in the history of mankind, ChatGPT, which uses artificial intelligence technologies. Determining the authorship of ChatGPT works is a complex and urgent task, which should also be resolved within the framework of the copyright law of Kyrgyzstan. With the help of formal legal and comparative legal methods, the author analyzes the existing main approaches to solving this problem: recognition of authorship for ChatGPT itself, for its developer, or for users. Taking into account the weaknesses of these approaches, the author is inclined to conclude that it is more correct to provide a separate legal regime for the work results of these technologies. Given the dynamic growth in the number of ChatGPT users among the citizens of Kyrgyzstan, this approach will make it possible to adapt domestic legislation to modern technological realities, reduce potential conflicts and streamline legal issues in the field of intellectual property.

Sixteen per cent of the relationship between WeChat Moments sharing and depression came from the effect of interpersonal relationships (6.800%) and social trust (9.200%), and the indirect effect was also significant (B=−0.032, p<0.01).ConclusionsWeChat use may empower middle-aged and elderly to maintain close social relationships and trust contributing to their mental health.

Researchers can assess a person's sentiments via social media by looking at the user's posts and comments to discover if he or she has a mental issue. This survey study mirrors prior research on detecting depression using user-generated material from social media platforms, which introduce different techniques and compare between it to obtain accuracy.
