The subject of this research is the works of the famous contemporary Canadian writer Margaret Atwood. The object of the study is their narrative structure. The author of the article characterizes Atwood's narratives as life-descriptive narratives, in which the narrator occupies a central position. The narrator in Atwood's works is usually also the main character. Atwood's texts create a total space for her narrators. One of the foundations for creating a narrative in Atwood's work is myth. Atwood uses ancient Greek, European, and indigenous myths to construct plots. This variety reflects the y

Abstract: The intersection of the study of travel writing and the study of translation produces two major perspectives: travel writing in translation and translation in travel writing. The first one looks into how the travel narrative is reshaped in a different linguistic and cultural context; the other looks into the translational character of the travel narrative, as the traveller is constantly moving between languages and cultures. Though the conceptual analogy between traveller and translator has been long noted, the linguistic dimension that marks the language difference in travel narrati

Previous work on the semiotics of Qur'anic narration is fairly sparse (cf. Hassanein, 2009b). In this paper I try to provide a semiotic analysis of the Qur'anic story Joseph and his Brothers, employing a model developed by Grambye and Sonne (2003a). The model draws heavily on the theories of structural-cognitive semiotics (Greimas, 1983; Brandt, 2004) and narratological terminology (Prince, 2003) and illustratively analyses the story's descriptive, narrative and argumentative propositional content, as well as enunciation, and discourse.
