Abstract:
In all the complexity of the museum study, there is a slight border that deserves all the attention of the researchers: the one of the niche museums. This work starts from the idea according to which the museum becomes a symbol of cultural practice in the contemporary era. In addition to the successful museums that are being built and built in the city, there is a new tendency to transform some spaces into small museums. These, in full process of heritage building, can highlight a series of features and characteristics of a society. The research of the niche museum starts from Ulf Hannerz, who says in his study that anthropology must renew its limits, it must take into account urban life. Researchers should not focus only on rural areas, in small, homogeneous communities, especially as they are outside Western societies Urban anthropology must be based on a range of social and cultural phenomena that will rarely be found in rural areas and which must be analyzed in the light of the diversity of human societies in general, says Ulf Hannerz, like the diversity of museums. From the chocolate museum, the lace museum, the cake museum, the cheese museum or the flower museum, all these culturally-rendered spaces are meant to anonymously remove some objects or crafts that are characteristic of a particular group and which subsequently become part of the immaterial cultural heritage. The Dictionary of Ethnology and Anthropology defines the study of anthropology regarding museography as a necessity inherent in the advancement of ethnography. Researchers such as Robert Park, Ulf Hannerz, Clifford Geertz, André Malraux or Chiara Bortolotto have studied the relationship of the museum with the city, thus implicitly with society. The conclusions they draw have the following aspect in common: the museum has the intrinsic ability to model and structure the immediate society.

Abstract:
Relevance and purpose. The purpose of the article is to include in the scientific circulation a collection of newly discovered acts and lists of individual collections of the Lubomirsky Museum, which since May 1940 have been submitted to the Lviv Museum Institutions. We believe that these documents deserve further scrutiny and will help identify individual exhibits in the collections of Lviv (and not only Lviv) museums, as well as help locate exhibits that are now considered lost. Research methodology. In order to achieve this, a descriptive method is generally employed. The historical source method and the comparative method were partly used. Historical principles are also especially emphasized. Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to investigate the consequences of the heritage experience in brand museums on the consumer–brand relationship. By highlighting its heritage within a museum, the brand proposes a specific experience that deserves attention because it is based on memory and communal identity, thus creating or strengthening a relationship with consumers. Design/methodology/approach Ethnographic case studies were conducted through direct observation and extensive interviews with 72 visitors at two brand museums, the Fallot Mustard Mill and the House of the Laughing Cow. Findings The results highlight the emergence/strengthening of the relationship between consumers and the brand through the development of intimacy with the brand and the emergence of supportive behaviors toward the brand in the form of commercial support, ambassadorship and volunteering. Research limitations/implications By characterizing and articulating the different relational consequences of visiting a brand museum, this research contributes to the literature dedicated to heritage experiences in consumption contexts and to the literature dedicated to consumer–brand relationships in servicescapes. Practical implications The study shows the necessity of grounding “heritage” in the physical setting of the brand museum to create a meaningful experience for visitors and, in turn, a deep relationship. Managers should treat brand museums as a relational tool in the marketing strategy of the brand and approach them from the perspective of long-term profitability. Originality/value While the literature has examined the spectacular and esthetic experiences brand museums offer, this study is the first to characterize the heritage experience and to document its consequences in terms of the consumer–brand relationship.

Abstract:
Problem setting. The issue of legal regulation of the digitization of museums is currently relevant and deserves special attention, since digital transformation at an effective level is necessary for both rare objects (museum cultural values) and modern ones. Creating a modern digital space for museum cultural values will be appropriate for: both visitors, owners and authors of museum cultural values, and outside investors and the museum. The purpose. Analysis of the “virtual version of the museum” category as a means of introducing digital technologies and defining its features, mechanism for realization and protection of digital works rights, which are in the repository of the museum site. Analysis of recent research and publications. At the scientific level, scientists, such as A. G. Vasnev, A. V. Goloviznin, S. G. Dolgov, T. V. Dudenko, V. F. Zverhovskaya, I. E. Martynenko, V. Yu. Stepanov, B. M. Odaynyk, but were considered exclusively within the framework of the legal regulation of the circulation of cultural values. The issues of digitization of museums dealt with such scientists as M. A. Belyaeva, T. A. Ladygina, N. V. Klementyevа, K. D. Savitskaya, but more from the point of view of general issues, without affecting the features of the virtual version of the museums. Article’s main body. Virtual excursion is the result of creative activity, presented in electronic (digital) form, by means of spherical or cylindrical panoramas, based on the interactive interaction of the user (visitor) with the virtual environment through a computer program for visual demonstration of digital works that are to be expressed electronically (digitally) and located on the museum’s website. Digitization of museum cultural values is one of the most promising areas in the field of introduction of high technologies and automation for museum cultural values. “Digitalization” should provide every citizen with equal access to cultural information and knowledge services provided through digital technologies. The implementation of this principle is possible when implementing a virtual version of the museum. The author defines the essence of the category “virtual version of the museum” and reveals its features. The article states that when visiting a virtual tour, the visitor can receive the following electronic services in the field of culture and the arts (paid / free), in particular, 1) view the virtual panorama by going to different halls of the museum, 2) explore museum exhibits that are museum cultural values, 3) get information about museum cultural values and more. Conclusions. According to the results of research, the expediency of positioning the museum in the Web space is established and the necessity of introducing a virtual version of the museum as a means of introduction of digital technologies is substantiated. The author found that if the museum site has a repository of digital photographs, which are viewed through virtual tours, access to such a site or content must be based on the copyright and copyright of the digital author himself.

Abstract:
Batik is a traditional Indonesian fabric with a blend of art and technology that has been recorded by UNESCO as one of the intangible world heritages. The Indonesian Batik Museum was established by the government to preserve, provide insight, and understanding of Nusantara batik to the public. To keep up with the times, museums are currently more focused on the visitor experience and not just as a repository of collections. However, at this time, there is still a lack of public interest in visiting and a lack of promotion on Museum Batik Indonesia’s social media. Hopefully, after visiting Museum Batik Indonesia, the mindset of visitors about Indonesian batik will change. The purpose of this promotional design is to increase the interest of the younger generation in visiting the Museum Batik Indonesia. Batik is Indonesia’s proud asset and deserves to be preserved, so it is necessary to introduce the history, meaning and various types of batik to the younger generation. Museum Batik Indonesia is a facility that can include education about Indonesian batik. The promotion design of Museum Batik Indonesia is using the AIDA (Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action) marketing strategy on Instagram. The design of this promotion includes various information about Museum Batik Indonesia and knowledge about batik in general, which is expected to increase the interest of the younger generation to wear, understand and love Indonesian batik.

Dimmitt, Mark A. "The Hybrid Palo Verde 'Desert Museum': A New, Superior Tree for Desert Landscapes." University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ), 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/554229.

Full text
Abstract:
A recently released complex hybrid palo verde is described which exhibits the best phenotypic traits of the three species in its parentage. 'Desert Museum' has inherited from Parkinsonia aculeata very rapid growth (up to 2.7 meters, nine feet, per year), sturdy, upright growth habit, and large, bright flowers borne over a long season. From Cercidium spp. it has inherited small leaves. Unlike any species of palo verde, the hybrid is completely unarmed. Preliminary evaluation indicates that 'Desert Museum' is a nearly ideal tree for cultivation in desert climates. It grows to a functional size of seven meters (20 feet) tall and wide in three to five years, after which time it can be maintained on little or no supplemental water. Its growth habit requires little or no pruning or staking. The litter from the small leaves is inconspicuous and readily blows away or decomposes. The tree is apparently resistant to indigenous pests and diseases. Availability is currently limited until a method for large scale propagation is developed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The following dissertation analyzes the presence of the Australian Central and Western Deserts acrylic movement in European museums from 1982 till 2012. Such presence is investigated by compiling European temporary exhibitions initiatives around the acrylic movement, and by analyzing Musée du Quai Branly’s double commission of contemporary Aboriginal artworks which are integrated today in the museum architectural complex as permanent displays. The main goals of this study are: to understand how Australian acrylic paintings from the desert have been circulating in Europe (by which actors and museums), to highlight the intercultural nature of this artistic movement and its circulation, as well as, to explore past and present representations of Aboriginality through the movement.

Since Council for Culture Affairs (CCA), Executive Yuan started to promote the policy of “reuse of deserted space” in 2001, the transforming activities for culture space have been more vital. However, when large-scale industrial sites and old residences of high officials were emphasized, life and industrial space which was closely linked to citizens with local distinguishing features were not widespread valued. Fortunately, “Plan of Local Cultural Center” was proposed by CCA to encourage local residences to participate the preparation and reconstruction of local cultural center. Parts of private-owned deserted space could be successfully transformed to public space for reusing through the investment of private and public resources. Will the corporation of Public-Private Partnership be opportunity for reuse of deserted space in the future? This research was based on the theory of Public-Private Partnerships and Chihsing Tan Katsuo Museum in Hualien was selected as a case study sample to explore how to transform the private deserted space into public used space through Public-Private Partnerships with policy of local cultural center reconstruction promoted by CCA. This research went a step further to analyze the application of Public-Private Partnerships on reuse of deserted space. This research was focused on case study based on qualitative analysis. Literature review, depth interview and participant observation were adapted as research instrument. The research scope was from 2003, when the Chihsing Tan Katsuo Museum started to participate local cultural center until the end of year 2005 to explore the corporation process and interaction between public sector, private sector, the third sector and residences. Firstly, this research reviewed the literature of Public-Private Partnerships and reuse of deserted space respectively, to strengthen the research and to form the research questions. Then, with the fieldwork, observation, data analysis, and depth interview of stakeholder were employed to examine the multi-collected evidence for exploring, inducing, and creating conclusion and recommendation. In accordance with this case, through the Public-Private Partnerships of network governance, it is possible to earn parts of deserved benefits and feedbacks without harm the public interests. Traditional weak point of “national” or “market” singular service could be supplemented and then reach the “all-wins” situation based on the issues of reuse of deserted space. The created effects will gradually expend from space reconstruction to entire community. The confidences between participants, long-term and stable partnerships development, and similar visions reconstructions, etc., are the sufficient conditions for the success of Public-Private Partnerships. Facing universal values of “good governance” in modern society, with the Public-Private Partnerships experience of Chihsing Tan Katsuo Museum, provides a clear, positive and practicable pathway for environmental transformation.

Abstract:
This report argues that historic landscape preservation efforts need to embrace biodiversity planning. Historic landscape preservation sites need to develop biodiversity plans because they are uniquely qualified to provide the continuous monitoring that successful biodiversity planning requires. Not only will biodiversity monitoring at various historic landscape sites contribute to a nationwide collection of biodiversity planning data, but it will also provide a rich source of information that can be presented to draw a wider audience into the biodiversity discussion. After considering three precedents: Old Sturbridge Village, Old World Wisconsin, and Tucson Botanical Gardens, the report focuses on the Kino Heritage Fruit Trees Project and its real and potential impacts on biodiversity planning in southern Arizona and more broadly. Finally, the report considers how seed libraries and seed swaps might serve a similar purpose in other parts of the country.

Abstract:
This chapter describes the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan as desert wars, even though they are fought in cities, mountains, and marshes. Americans believe that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights. That America is home to many peoples with different cultures, languages, and faiths testifies that it is not for itself alone, but for all the world. The conviction that America offers a home to people of every place and faith spoke against discrimination after the terrorist attacks of September 11. The War on Terror saw America desert its principles for torture, secret prisons, and extraordinary rendition. This chapter examines how Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo became places where Americans confront troubling domestic issues, such as the pathologies of pornography and celebrity, the myth of gender equality, and the burden of racial inequality.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the Hejaz Railway. The Hejaz Railway is a unique archaeological and anthropological object, created for different reasons by various financial means from across the Muslim world—from faith-based donations and taxation, to the selling of archaeological heritage, and from the manufacture of stamps and honours to the acquisition of sheepskins. These resources were transmuted, in a sense recycled into rail tracks, embankments, bridges, station buildings, and rolling stock—all underwritten by imperial-military, regional, and geo-political realities cloaked in religious intent. Even the route was hybrid, a palimpsest belonging, variously, to prehistoric, Nabatean, Roman, and Byzantine trade pathways; Ottoman Hajj roads; and railway modernity. At the beginning of the twentieth century, as the railroad moved through this millennia-old landscape, it became a catalyst for conflict, embedded in a war which changed the region and the world.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the complex site of Batn al-Ghoul Station, in all probability spanning the prehistoric to modern periods due to its strategic location half-way between the high plateau and low-lying sandy wadis. This position was liminal for pre-modern societies, which have been shown in the discussion of the myths and superstitions it attracted for Muslim pilgrims on the Hajj, who regarded it as the Belly of the Beast. Its choice for the railway descent around 1900 was pragmatic, offering the only feasible place where tracks could be laid, albeit in a wide curving arc and with huge preparatory efforts in re-shaping the local geography. Batn al-Ghoul’s three campsites belong to the construction era, though some re-use during the Arab Revolt is probable, and Bedouin re-use throughout the twentieth century is certain. The archaeological evidence indicates that Bedouin favour the more substantial tent-rings for their brief re-occupations. Despite its vulnerable location during the construction era and the Arab Revolt, the only clearly defensive feature was the Batn al-Ghoul Loop Trench. Despite this, the loop trench is an example in miniature of Turkish efforts to protect the Hejaz Railway from guerrilla attack.

Abstract:
This chapter first discusses the desert climate’s long and still lingering impacts on politics in the Gulf. The chapter then provides a brief political history of the Gulf and then discusses in detail how Saudi Arabia diverged from other Gulf States in developing a native class of religious scholars. To serve as a further historical background, the chapter also introduces Islamism and illustrates its core ideological element through the religious views of Hasan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. The chapter finally discusses the Gulf States’ early exposure to Islamism in the early twentieth century, claiming that this exposure facilitated the Muslim Brotherhood’s spread to the region.

Barton, Greg. "PREACHING BY EXAMPLE AND LEARNING FOR LIFE: UNDERSTANDING THE GÜLEN HIZMET IN THE GLOBAL CONTEXT OF RELIGIOUS PHILANTHROPY AND CIVIL RELIGION." In Muslim World in Transition: Contributions of the Gülen Movement. Leeds Metropolitan University Press, 2007. http://dx.doi.org/10.55207/exer7443.

Abstract:
The Gülen movement, or hizmet, is often misunderstood, and this is in large measure because it is unlike anything else in the Muslim world, though the Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama mass-based organisations of Indonesia do bear some resemblance. However, there is no good reason to limit comparisons to the Muslim world. As a social movement motivated by religious values and the ideals of selfless service, engaged in philan- thropic endeavour and active in the civil sphere, the Gülen hizmet deserves comparison with other such movements around the globe. This paper looks outside the geographic and cultural context of the Muslim world to demon- strate that the Gülen hizmet shares much in common with many Western, Christian, philan- thropic initiatives in education and public discourse of the past three centuries, particularly in North America. The utility of this comparison is that it helps us to understand better aspects of the Gülen hizmet that cannot be easily understood in the limited context of the Muslim world. It also helps break down some of the ‘us and them’ barriers that divide Christians and Muslims, and east and west, by allowing us to recognise common concerns, values and shared experiences. The paper also explores the concept of civil religion in the twenty-first century, examines ways in which religious philanthropic activity can contribute to the development of non- exclusivist civil religion and apply these insights to the Gülen hizmet to argue that the hizmet models an interesting modern Islamic alternative to Islamism.

Abstract:
Genocide or, to say the least, ethnic cleansing towards Muslims in Rakhine State, Myanmar, conducted by fanatic Buddhist monks and the military has been on the agenda in recent months. This opening speech aims at finding out real causes of this inhumane incident and investigating whether or not it is solely a result of some kind interreligious conflict in Myanmar. My research has convinced me that Rakhine inter-ethnic question has international economic and security related roots that deserve close and detailed investigation. In my point of view, the Rakhine Question depends heavily on economic security considerations such as: a) security of natural gas and petrol reservoirs in Rakhine State and pipelines connecting Rakhine State to China, b) security of railway link connecting Kyaukpyu Deep Water Sea Port in Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone in Rakhine State to China which has developed by China to bypass Malacca Strait. The potential that Muslim dominated Rakhine State may cause security threats to some of the foreign Chinese investments in Myanmar in medium term should be taken as a main cause that gives way to ethnic cleansing against Muslim Rakhine population.

Penaskovic, Richard. "M FETHULLAH GÜLEN’S RESPONSE TO THE “CLASH OF CIVILIZATIONS” THESIS." In Muslim World in Transition: Contributions of the Gülen Movement. Leeds Metropolitan University Press, 2007. http://dx.doi.org/10.55207/bteg9200.

Abstract:
Part I contains an exposition of Sam Huntington’s thesis about the clash of civilisations ac- cording to Gülen. Huntington’s writings are far from being realistic evaluations regarding the future. Rather, they are more like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Gülen argues that by creat- ing new enemy fronts, Huntington actually sows the seeds for a clash of civilisations on the basis of religious and cultural differences. Part II looks at Gulen’s response to Huntington’s thesis and has three parts: tolerance, interfaith dialogue, and compassionate love. Tolerance means closing our minds to the faults of others, respecting ideas with which we disagree, and when attacked verbally, responding with mildness or as the Qur’an says, with ‘gentle words.’ Interfaith dialogue involves stressing the commonalities between the world religions, rather than past polemics and historical differences. In regard to compassionate love Gülen calls the universe a symphony of compassion because without compassion everything is in chaos. Souls filled with love are in Gülen’s view, the greatest heroes in the cosmos. The way of love is the way of the prophets. Part III contains my own views on the clash of civilisations. Written in the spirit of Gülen, I argue that in contradistinction to Huntington, the Muslim world is not monolithic, that many of the past wars and clashes were within the same civilisa- tion, and that the real clash is between extremists of all types and moderates within the same culture or civilisation. I also highlight the ecumenical message of Islam, namely, that all religion deserve respect and courtesy, that followers of different religious traditions should compete with one another in piety, and that the rope that links us to God also links us to one another (Qur’an 3:103).

Abstract:
As if Afghanistan’s recent takeover by the Taliban was not a sufficiently significant development in the AfPak region, reports indicate that Pakistan’s largest sect, the Barelvi, becomes increasingly militant and aggressive by the day. Since another important movement for the history of Pakistan - the Deobandi - has generally dominated the violence scene in Pakistan starting with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, this trend within the Barelvis is a rather new one, and deserves extensive attention keeping in mind the recent regional developments. Taking a brief look at the history of the region to identify possible causes that may underlie the radicalization of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan group, it is noticeable that emergence of Barelvi and Deobandi sects in the first part of 19th century was part of a larger movement to revive Islam in the Northern part of India, but in different manners: while the Deobandi kept close to the Hanafi Sunni teachings in a strictly manner, the Barelvi sect – developed itself mostly on a Sufi legacy, as part of a larger Folk Islam inherited from the Mughal Empire, despite being itself affiliated with the Hanafi school. The differences between the two movements became critical from a political, security and social point of view, especially after the division of British India in 1947, into two states: a Muslim one – present day Pakistan, and a Hindu one - present day India, of which, the first, became the state entity that encompassed both Hanafi revivalist movements, Deobandi and Barelvi. Therefore, this research is aiming to analyse the history of Barelvi movement starting with the British Raj, the way in which Pakistan was established as a state and the problems that arose with the partition of the former British colony, the very Islamic essence of the new established state, and the potential for destabilization of Barelvi organisations in an already prone to conflict area. Consequently, the current research aims to identify the patterns of latest developments in Pakistan, their historical roots and causes, main actors active in religious, political and military fields in this important state-actor from the AfPak region, in order to project Barelvi recent in a defined environment, mainly by using a historical approach.
