Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to identify best practices in the design and implementation of community-driven rural development (CDRD) projects in Central America with special emphasis on Nicaragua. The methodology used in this study is two-fold. First, a literature review of the academic literature (chapter 2) and donor agency project documents and consultant reports (chapter 3) for Central America was conducted to understand key advances in the field and to derive a set of common findings. Second, field inter-views with key stakeholders and focus group interviews (about 30) were held in Nicar

Abstract:
Background: Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) is advocated globally as a way of improving patient flow in hospital by bringing forward the time of patient discharge. Problem: Complexities regarding the heterogeneity of patient conditions have inhibited development of CLD in acute medicine. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was operational for CLD although this had not been introduced in practice within acute medicine. Approach: Prospective observation of the CLD procedure in practice through testing which included; staff involvement, development of supporting tools, interrogation of patient clin

Abstract:
To date, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has considered the impact of its projects on community health and safety on an ad hoc basis. Although the IDB's 2006 Environmental and Safeguards Compliance Policy (OP-703) requires that project teams consider health and safety issues in the context of managing project impacts and risks, no specific guidance currently exists on how to do this. This Community Health and Safety Guidance Note is designed to fill that gap by providing project teams and borrowers with advice on how to systematically identify, prevent, and/or mitigate potential impa

Abstract:
This multi-phased PHMSA/PRCI project aims to conduct a collaborative study (pipeline operators, ILI Technology Providers (TPs), subject matter experts, and consultants) to quantitatively measure and improve the detection and sizing capabilities of current corrosion ILI systems. A data-driven approach was used which identified problematic corrosion profiles based on the review of recent Root-Cause-Analysis reports of corrosion-related failures to design and construct an ILI corrosion test string containing features having similar profiles. All such profiles were then documented using the best p
