Abstract:
Aim (1) To determine the interobserver reliability of magnetic resonance classifications and lesion instability criteria for capitellar osteochondritis dissecans lesions and (2) to assess differences in reliability between subgroups. Methods Magnetic resonance images of 20 patients with capitellar osteochondritis dissecans were reviewed by 33 observers, 18 orthopaedic surgeons and 15 musculoskeletal radiologists. Observers were asked to classify the osteochondritis dissecans according to classifications developed by Hepple, Dipaola/Nelson, Itsubo, as well as to apply the lesion instability criteria of DeSmet/Kijowski and Satake. Interobserver agreement was calculated using the multirater kappa (k) coefficient. Results Interobserver agreement ranged from slight to fair: Hepple (k = 0.23); Dipaola/Nelson (k = 0.19); Itsubo (k = 0.18); DeSmet/Kijowksi (k = 0.16); Satake (k = 0.12). When classifications/instability criteria were dichotomized into either a stable or unstable osteochondritis dissecans, there was more agreement for Hepple (k = 0.52; p = .002), Dipaola/Nelson (k = 0.38; p = .015), DeSmet/Kijowski (k = 0.42; p = .001) and Satake (k = 0.41; p < .001). Overall, agreement was not associated with the number of years in practice or the number of osteochondritis dissecans cases encountered per year (p > .05). Conclusion One should be cautious when assigning grades using magnetic resonance classifications for capitellar osteochondritis dissecans. When making treatment decisions, one should rather use relatively simple distinctions (e.g. stable versus unstable osteochondritis dissecans; lateral wall intact versus not intact), as these are more reliable.

Abstract:
Measuring innovations is momentous in research work on industrial location, regional economic planning and industrial profits. However, fewer studies have considered spatiotemporal factors for analysing the impact of factors of production on innovation till this date. Present study is therefore an attempt to fill this void by developing a model relating to factors of production effects on industrial innovation with continuous spatial locations for Pakistan. Our methodology is consistent with the approach espoused by Desmet and Hansberg (2014). The model assumes that labour and capital affects the innovation at each available location during the production process. This model has also incorporated spill over-effects whichdeclines with the upsurge in distance. Migration of labour act as the basic element for the speculation of higher-level of innovation. Successively, simulation of the model for a developing economy like Pakistan, we conclude that the share of capital to innovation is much higher relative to the share of labour, but comparatively spill over-effects of capital is susceptible to the increase in distance. Our study has theoretical contribution in the sense that we have improved the existing work of Desmet and Hansberg (2014), where labour was considered as the only source of innovation and capital, as an endogenous variable, was neglected.

Abstract:
Requirements crosscutting in software development and maintenance have gradually become an important issue in software engineering with a growing need of traceability support to better understand the requirements crosscutting processes to comply with industrial standards. However, many recent works focusing on identification, modularization, composition and conflict dissolution of requirements crosscutting are mostly saturated at requirements level. Hence, these works fail to specify crosscutting properties for functional and non-functional requirements at other phases leading to insufficient support for software engineers. Recently, a new approach called the Identification, Modularization, Design Composition Rules and Conflict Dissolutions (IM-DeCRuD) was proposed to provide a special traceability to facilitate better understanding and reasoning towards requirements crosscutting implementation, along with a tool as a proof-of-concept. In this paper, the tool was evaluated and the results were verified by some experts in the industries. The feedbacks on applicability aspect were then gathered and analyzed using DESMET qualitative method. The outcome showed that the IM-DeCRuD was applicable to cope with the tedious engineering processes in handling crosscutting properties at requirements, analysis and design phases for system development and evolution.

ABSTRACT Like several other Escherichia coli bacteriophages, transposable phage Mu does not develop normally in groEhosts (M. Pato, M. Banerjee, L. Desmet, and A. Toussaint, J. Bacteriol. 169:5504–5509, 1987). We show here that lysates obtained upon induction of groE Mu lysogens contain free inactive tails and empty heads. GroEL and GroES are thus essential for the correct assembly of both Mu heads and Mu tails. Evidence is presented thatgroE mutations inhibit processing of the phage head protein gpH as well as the formation of a 25S complex suspected to be an early Mu head assembly intermediate.

Abstract:
This paper studies the impact of spatial frictions on Asia's long-term spatial development. Using the framework provided in Desmet, Nagy, and Rossi-Hansberg ( 2016 ), we analyze the evolution of Asia's economy and the relative performance of specific regions and countries. We then perform a number of counterfactual experiments and find that a worldwide drop in transport costs of 40% increases the present discounted value of real income by 70.7% globally and 78% in Asia. These figures are much larger than those found in standard quantitative trade models because they include dynamic effects and take into account intracountry transport costs. We also perform exercises in which we upgrade Asia's road network or relax migratory restrictions between locations in Asia. These exercises emphasize the important role of spatial frictions in the development of Asia's economy.

Abstract:
Liver needle biopsies played important role in determining the various forms of chronic hepatitis, the activity of inflammation and the degree of fibrosis. A breakthrough in their evaluation was provided by the so-called Knodell Histology Activity Index (HAI) system, which expressed the dynamics of the process and histological characteristics of therapy response. The HAI system underwent several modifications, the most widely used being the Desmet, Ishak modifications as well as the METAVIR scoring system. These systems examine necroinflammation and degree of fibrosis separately, namely the grade and stage of chronic hepatitis. Determination of fibrosis has become the subject of discussion lately, since the amount of connective tissue deposition (collagen fiber, extracellular matrix) is not clearly identifiable with the stage of chronic hepatitis. Histological evaluation of the liver remains decisive in determining the effect of the various new therapeutic drugs, in particular the protease and polymerase inhibitors of certain nonstructural proteins of the hepatitis C virus. It can be established however, that in recent years liver biopsies have become rather a selective than routine technique. Orv. Hetil., 2011, 152, 856–858.

Abstract:
We compared the social behavior of juvenile rainbow trout with a regulatory allele, Pgm-1-t(b), to their full-sibs without this allele. Other studies have shown that this gene has many pleiotropic effects in the Arlee strain, the most obvious being an increase in developmental rate at about the time of hatching. The frequencies of two agonistic action patterns, charge and lateral display, and two nonagonistic measures, yawn and forage, were used to describe early social behavior. Pgm-1-t(b) was associated with significantly higher frequencies of charge and larger size in fish from the Arlee strain. However, fish from the DeSmet strain with Pgm-1-t(b) were no more aggressive or longer than their full-sibs lacking this allele. Length was the primary determinant of dominance status in both strains, regardless of Pgm-1-t genotype. In both strains, there was no significant difference between genotypes in the frequency of lateral display and forage. Our results show that genetic differences at a single locus can have pleiotropic effects on behavior with potential adaptive significance.

Abstract:
A retrospective cohort study of 79 patients with chronic hepatitis C was performed to assess the predictive nature of various variables (age, sex, route of transmission, extent of steatosis, alcohol consumption and serum aminotransferase values), with the underlying hepatic histopathology. The newly modified Knodell histological activity index by Desmet et al (1), which separately scores the inflammation from the fibrosis on the liver biopsy, was used. Using stepwise multivariate logistic regression, it was discovered that serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) values had a predictive relationship with overall histological activity (r=0.62), portal inflammation (r=0.58), piecemeal necrosis (r=0.61) and extent of hepatic fibrosis (r=0.64). Serum AST values correctly predicted the inflammatory grade in 63 of 79 (80%) patients, and the fibrosis stage in 50 of 79 (63%) patients - higher than the predictive values of ALT. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) values did not correlate with the degree of histological inflammation (r=0.39) but did correlate mildly with the extent of hepatic fibrosis (r=0.51). There were no significant correlations of the other variables with histological inflammation or fibrosis.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this paper we show that attachment height (high vs. low attachment) of a modifier to a complex noun phrase (CNP; e.g., “the servant of the actress”), can be primed between dissimilar syntactic structures. In a sentence completion experiment, we found that the attachment height of a prepositional phrase (PP) in the prime sentence primed the attachment height of a relative clause (RC) in the target sentence. This cross-structural priming effect cannot be explained in terms of the priming of specific phrase-structure rules or even sequences of specific phrase-structure rules ( Scheepers, 2003 ), because the attachment of a PP to a CNP is generated by a different phrase-structure rule than the attachment of an RC. However, the present data suggest that the location at which the RC is attached to the CNP is mentally represented, independent of the specific phrase-structure rule that is attached, or by extension, that the abstract hierarchical configuration of the full CNP and the attached RC is represented ( Desmet & Declercq, 2006 ). This is the first demonstration of a cross-structural priming effect that cannot be captured by phrase-structure rules.

Abstract:
We measured all fins of 600 hatchery trout sampled from all 10 state fish hatcheries in Utah, and of wild fish sampled as controls comprising 58 rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), 33 cutthroat trout (O. clarki), and 54 brown trout (Salmo trutta). A strong linear correlation was found between fin length and total body length (100–300 mm) for all fins of wild rainbow trout. "Relative fin length" (fin length/total body length × 100) proved to be a useful comparative measure, as this statistic was not biased by fish length in the wild fish sampled (all slopes <0.01%). Interspecific comparison of wild rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout showed slight but statistically significant differences in some fin lengths. In intraspecific comparisons, hatchery fish had significantly shorter (10–50%) rayed fins than wild fish. The dorsal fin was most severely eroded in rainbow and brown trout, followed by the pectoral, anal, ventral, and caudal fins, in cutthroat trout the pattern was the same except that pectoral fins had more extensive erosion than dorsal fins. No species was clearly more susceptible to fin erosion in hatcheries, but the Fish Lake – DeSmet strain of rainbow trout had significantly shorter fins than other rainbow trout strains.

Abstract:
In this article we evaluate the relevance of 3D visualisation as a research tool for the history of cinemagoing. How does the process of building a 3D model of cinema theatres relate to what we already know about this history? In which ways does the modelling process allow for the synthesis of different types of archived cinema heritage assets? To what extent does this presentation of “content in context” helps us to better understand the history of film consumption? We will address these questions via a discussion of a specific case study, our visualisation of Jean Desmet’s Amsterdam Cinema Parisien theatre, one of the first permanent cinemas of the Dutch capital. First, we reflect on 3D as a research tool, outlining its technology and methodological principles and its usefulness for research into the historiography of moviegoing. Then we describe our 3D visualisation of Cinema Parisien, discussing the process of researching and building the model. Finally, we evaluate the result against the existing knowledge about the history of cinemagoing in Amsterdam and of this cinema theatre in particular, and answer the question to what extent 3D as a research tool can aid our understanding of the history of cinema consumption.

Abstract:
IntroductionAn increasing amount of outcome research supports the efficacy of Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (STPP) for a wide range of psychological disorders, reporting effect sizes in meta-analyses between 0.50 and 1.40 (for review see Shedler, 2010). Mapping mechanisms of change in the STPP process can be considered the major challenge of STPP for the decades to come.Objectives/aimsThis study focuses on STPP with Obsessive-Compulsive (OC) patients and tests the hypothesis that the progressive elimination of OC symptoms throughout an STPP process is correlated to a parallel process of change at the level of interpersonal characteristics.MethodMixed quantitative-qualitative analyses of data of Short Term Psychodynamic Therapies with four OC patients are presented. Repeated Measures analyses are performed to study intra-subject associations between intensity of OC symptoms (measured by General Health Questionnaire, GHQ-12, and Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory, OCI-R) and interpersonal characteristics (measured by Inventory of Interpersonal Problems, IIP-32).ResultsObserved associations between evolutions in general interpersonal characteristics and general complaints were significant yet inconsistent across the patients. Qualitative analyses, however, revealed similarities on the level of specific interpersonal characteristics, in this respect that all patients struggled to escape the suffocating impact of parental figures and/or romantic partners.ConclusionsRather than elaborating a general interpersonal style (cfr. Desmet et al., 2008), the results suggest that a progressive elaboration of parent-child and partner relationships is a crucial characteristic of the STPP process with OC patients. Limitations of the study are the small sample size and the absence of contrast- and control groups.

Abstract:
Introduction: Hip resurfacing (HRA) requires a new standardised radiographic evaluation protocol. Evaluation of acetabular components is similar to total hip arthroplasty (THA) but femoral components require different criteria. This study evaluates the efficacy of a new femoral zonal system for radiographic HRA assessment in identifying clinical problems. Methods: A new proximal femoral zonal system divides implant-cement-bone interfaces at head and neck into 7 DeSmet zones. 611 in situ and 100 revised HRA were assessed for component positioning, borderline findings (reactive lines, cortical thickening, cancellous condensation) or sinister findings (lucent lines, bone resorption, osteolysis). Findings were correlated with gender, size, implant survival, clinical scores, metal ions, and adverse soft tissue reactions (ALTR). Results: Radiological changes were found in 265 hips (37.3%), 154 sinister (21.7%) and 111 borderline (15.6%). 84% of revisions had sinister findings versus 11.4% of in situ HRA ( p < 0.001). The mean number of abnormal acetabular and femoral zones was 3.3 in revised compared to 0.6 in situ HRA ( p < 0.001). Sinister findings were associated with female gender, lower clinical scores, smaller sizes or ASR design (all: p < 0.001). Metal ions were higher with sinister ( p < 0.001) and borderline ( p < 0.01) findings compared to normal radiographs. Pathological findings in ⩾4 zones had a sensitivity of 50% and specificity of 94.2% (AUC = 0.898) in detecting hips with ALTR (odds ratio = 49). Conclusion: In order to accurately evaluate progressive radiographic changes in HRA, specific zones have been established around the femoral component. There was a high correlation between radiographic findings and outcome measures. 84% of problematic hips and 90.4% of proven ALTR had sinister changes.

Abstract:
Collecting data allows researchers to store and analyze important information about activities, events, and situations. Gathering this information can also help us make decisions, control processes, and analyze what happens and when it happens. In fact, a scientific investigation is the way scientists use the scientific method to collect the data and evidence that they plan to analyze. Neuroscience and other related activities are set to collect their own big datasets, but to exploit their full potential, we need ways to standardize, integrate, and synthesize diverse types of data. Although the use of low-cost ElectroEncephaloGraphy (EEG) devices has increased, such as those whose price is below 300 USD, their role in neuroscience research activities has not been well supported; there are weaknesses in collecting the data and information. The primary objective of this paper was to describe a tool for data management and visualization, called MuseStudio, for low-cost devices; specifically, our tool is related to the Muse brain-sensing headband, a personal meditation assistant with additional possibilities. MuseStudio was developed in Python following the best practices in data analysis and is fully compatible with the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS), which specifies how brain data must be managed. Our open-source tool can import and export data from Muse devices and allows viewing real-time brain data, and the BIDS exporting capabilities can be successfully validated following the available guidelines. Moreover, these and other functional and nonfunctional features were validated by involving five experts as validators through the DESMET method, and a latency analysis was also performed and discussed. The results of these validation activities were successful at collecting and managing electroencephalogram data.

Abstract:
AbstractCurrently, liver histology is the gold standard for the detection of liver fibrosis. In recent years, new methods such as transient elastography (TE) have been introduced into clinical practice, which allow a non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis. The aim of the present study was to investigate the predictive value of TE for higher grade fibrosis and whether there is any relevance which histologic score is used for matching. For this purpose, we compared TE with 4 different histologic scores in pediatric patients with hepatopathies. Furthermore, we also determined the aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio (APRI) score, another non-invasive method, to investigate whether it is equally informative. Therefore, liver fibrosis in 75 children was evaluated by liver biopsy, TE and laboratory values. Liver biopsies were evaluated using four common histological scoring systems (Desmet, Metavir, Ishak and Chevalier’s semi-quantitative scoring system). The median age of the patients was 12.3 years. TE showed a good correlation to the degree of fibrosis severity independent of the histological scoring system used. The accuracy of the TE to distinguish between no/minimal fibrosis and severe fibrosis/cirrhosis was good (p = 0.001, AUC-ROCs > 0.81). The optimal cut-off value for the prediction of severe fibrosis was 10.6 kPa. In contrast, the APRI score in our collective showed no correlation to fibrosis. Conclusion: TE shows a good correlation to the histological findings in children with hepatopathy, independent of the used histological scoring system. What is Known:• The current gold standard for detecting liver fibrosis is liver biopsy. Novel non-invasive ultrasound-based methods are introduced to clinical diagnostics.• Most histological scores have been developed and evaluated in adult populations and for only one specific liver disease. What is New:• Transient elastography (TE) in children showed a good correlation to fibrosis severity irrespective of the utilized histological scoring system.• The aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio (APRI) showed no correlation with different stages of liver fibrosis in children.
