Abstract:
The continental Cenozoic of this country is very extensive, holds important natural resources, and sustains much of the environmental impact; yet it remains geologically poorly known. Scarcity of time markers and very limited detailed mapping have hampered the studies on this subject. In an effort to improve the knowledge on the Tertiary, the available geologic information on the Cenozoic sequence of nine representative areas belonging to six states is critically reviewed in this paper, their vertebrate faunas described, and the results are integrated to assess their geologic and paleontologic

Abstract:
An attempt to reconstruct a skeleton of Paleoparadoxia Reinhart, 1959 (Mammalia, Desmostylia), suggests that desmostylian terrestrial posture deviated from that of typical ungulates much less than has been supposed by other authors. Desmostylians probably had a quadrupedal stance, with the body welt off the ground and the limbs more or less under the body; a strongly arched spine and steeply inclined pelvis; slightly abducted elbows and more strongly abducted knees; and a digitigrade foot posture with an extended but not hyperextended wrist and hyperextended toes, the front

Abstract:
Abstract Extant elephants were first named Proboscidea by Illiger in 1811. At that time, they were known as ‘pachyderms’. According to Cuvier’s Le regne animal (1817), the pachyderms also included tapirs, pigs, hippos, and hyra:xes. In 1834, Blainville clustered elephants and sirenians together in the ‘gravigrades’, a mono-phyletic group which was named Tethytheria by McKenna in 1975 (which includes the orders Proboscidea, Sirenia, and Desmostylia).
