The results of this study show that novel mesoporous carbons were obtained as inverse replica of SBA-15, HMS and MCM-41 silica templates, with a large pore diameter (2-4 nm), a BET surface area of 1867, 874 and 910 m2g â1 respectively for CA_SBA-15_LPG_105, CA_HMS_LPG_80 and CA_MCM- 41_LPG_80 with bimodal pore size distribution (PSD) in the mesopores range. The results obtained show that mesoporous carbon with graphitic structures can be synthesized via the LPG route.

A method for representing solid-liquid sorption behavior of solutes by a two step equilibrium is shown to correlate well with observed sorption behavior. By fitting a three term expression to isotherm plots of solute surface concentration vs. the concentration in the bulk solvent the two distribution constants as well as the maximum sorption capacity are determined. Production of gas from shale reservoirs is governed by multiphysics mechanisms of which gas desorption is dominant. However, the actual contributions of desorption to gas production is often masked by the use of adsorption isotherms for gas production predictions. This is because it is hitherto believed that both processes are identical for methane at reservoir conditions. This research aims to quantify the effect of such a misrepresentation on gas production where sorption hysteresis is observed.

Abstract:

The formal solution to the diffusion equation for transient adsorption in a semiinfinite medium with a strongly concentration dependent diffusivity, originally derived by Fujita ( 3 ), has been extended to desorption. Profiles for adsorption and desorption are compared and simplified asymptotic expressions which are useful when the diffusivity ratio is large are derived. The effect of a strongly concentration dependent diffusivity on adsorption and desorption kinetics is briefly considered.
