Abstract:
This paper proceeds by investigating three ‘topoi’ or sites within Heidegger’s texts where the presence of Stoicism most fundamentally articulates itself as critical to his understanding of the truth of being (aletheia) and its historical destining as Ereignis. We will begin with the “Letter on Humanism” (1947), the most comprehensive “public’ statement of his later thought-by first considering how Ereignis-often translated as the event or event of appropriation to indicate the historical destining of being-might be said to be consonant with the Stoic doctrine of oikeiosis-the appropriation or familiarization with oneself echoed by both Chrysippus and Hierocles. In doing so, we will attempt to trace Heidegger’s interpretation of oikeiosis back into the origins of his fundamental ontology by turning to the genesis of care/cura (Sorge) in Sein und Zeit (1927)-specifically the Roman myth of Hyginus that bears its name-before concluding with an early lecture course, Introduction to the Phenomenology of Religion (1920-1921) where his engagement with the Pauline tradition reveals oikeiosis to be a hidden enigma in his thinking about the meaning of being and its historical destining.

Abstract:
Abstract We ask if school choice, through its effect on sorting across schools, affects high school graduates’ application decisions to higher education. We exploit a school choice reform that dramatically increased achievement sorting across secondary schools in the municipality of Stockholm, employing a before–after design with a control group of students in similar schools located outside this municipality. The reform had a close to zero mean effect on the propensity to apply for tertiary educational programs, but strongly affected the self-selection by achievement into the kinds of higher educational programs applied for. Low achievers increased their propensity to apply for the ‘low-status’ educational programs, on average destining them to less prestigious, less well-paid occupations, and high achievers increased their propensity to apply for ‘high-status’ educational programs, on average destining them to more prestigious, well-paid occupations. The results suggest that increased sorting across schools reinforces differences across schools and groups in ‘cultures of ambition’. Although these effects translate into relatively small increases in the gender gap, the immigration gap, and the parental education gap in educational choice, our results indicate that school choice, and the increased sorting it leads to, through conformity mechanisms in schools polarizes educational choices of students across achievement groups.

Abstract:
The study reviewed empirical analysis of rice farmers’ investment in value addition activities in Kebbi State, Nigeria. An attempt was also made to describe the various rice value addition activities in Nigeria. The empirical reviewed describe the stages in rice value addition activities to include input supply, production, harvesting, processing, parboiling, milling, winnowing, destining, bagging and marketing. Result indicated that only 16.0% of rice farmers in Kebbi State engaged in the first category of value addition activities, that is, parboiling, winnowing and drying only, and only 6.0% of rice farmers involved in the second category of value addition which included parboiling, winnowing, drying and de-stoning. Only 2.0% of rice farmers engaged in the last category of rice value addition which comprises of parboiling, milling, drying, de-stoning and bagging. Several studies reviewed revealed that investments in rice value addition activities in Nigeria are profitable, however, result reviewed showed that majority of rice farmers (76.0%) in Kebbi State were not involved in value addition activities. It was recommended that farmers should be encouraged to take advantage of the benefits in value addition activities to improve their livelihood activities and increase their income which invariably reduced their poverty status.

Abstract:
Contemporary challenges of sustainability are the results of civilisation action. This reveals necessity of humankind creative patterns (re)evaluation and, based on latest global tendencies, reformation into new – unprecedent – ways for anthropogenic artefacts, such as architecture, development and performance. Abundance of definitions on sustainability makes the task challenging by itself, especially, by changes in context of time and space as well as technological sophistication, interdisciplinarity. Therefore, the article, first of all, puts emphasis on finding the perception of sustainable development essence. It is explained as phased cultural characteristics aligning with range of human needs for outcomes, in terms of the study, named (re)solutions. The complex methodology, by the author formulated as technique 7R, explains the possibilities of sustainable architecture creation as freedom in norms, paradoxically, thus destining precedents and standards, such as traditions, revival rather than negligence. Review of scientific literature, documents, regulations and initiatives, in the first part of the study, serves for induction of sustainability characteristics appearing in alternative fields, such as economy, politics, knowledge, in the second part – of properties of architecture inherent to typological alternatives. Applying deduction principles, study suggests the derived means for sustainable architecture attributes, other types of human-made strategies, such as regulations on architecture. Case study of architecture examples the following findings and, argued also in non-scientific sources, serves for expertise on their authors’ critical creative intentions. The results are discussed, conclusions and suggestions are made.

Abstract:
Abstract Gerald Vizenor displays his playful wit and provocative theorizing of Indigenous creativity in Native Provenance (2019), a collection of essays adapted from material that appeared in other forms between 2004 and 2019. He uses familiar concepts (survivance, transmotion, gossip theory) to drive discussions of familiar topics (World War I veterans from White Earth, the White Earth constitution, Indigenous abstract expressionist painters). Devoted readers of Vizenor will appreciate but also wonder about the persistence in his work over many decades of certain topics and critical emphases. A decreased interest in crossbloods as trickster figures represents one of the most significant shifts in emphasis from the middle to the later part of Vizenor’s career. Louis Owens admired Vizenor’s work on crossbloods, and he lived an experience fundamental to his view of the world that he called, similarly, “mixedblood.” Yet, as many of the contributors to Louis Owens: Writing Land and Legacy (2019) demonstrate, Owens consistently recognized distinct Native and non-Native worlds in his scholarship and drew upon tribal nation-specific beliefs and practices in his novels. His characters often struggled to understand their connection to Indigenous histories, communities, and families, all of which Owens valued, even when they remained inaccessible, either to him or his characters.

Abstract:
The question of the relation, not of technology, but of the “essence” of technology, that is, of technicity (die Technik)—understood in Heidegger’s sense as a destining of revealing—the question of the relation of technicity to nature is becoming ever more urgent. Human beings and their fate are implicated in that relation, yet never as merely passive participants, and they need to be awakened both to that urgency and to the fundamental question it poses: poses to them as those who are implicated in this manner. The question of the relation of technicity to nature arrives on our doorstep today by virtue of a long, philosophical inheritance, one articulated in terms of the relation of phusis and techne. It is a very specific interpretation and appropriation of techne—and also, inseparably, of phusis—that, in the course of the centuries, sets the stage for the emergence of technicity and its relation to nature. Yet the Greek word techne once meant not only the production of items of utility using nature as a resource, but also the bringing forth of the beautiful, or rather, of the experience of the gods—a bringing forth that came to be called art. In his 1953 essay “The Question Concerning Technicity,” Heidegger invites us to reflect on the question of the relation of technicity to nature by considering “the monstrousness” (das Ungeheure) that becomes manifest in the contrast between the Rhine river as dammed up and placed into the service of a hydroelectric power plant, and the Rhine “as uttered by the artwork, in Hölderlin’s hymn by that name.” The contrast, we note, is not between a pure, pristine, unadulterated nature, the river Rhine as a natural phenomenon untouched by techne, and the river placed (gestellt) in the service of technicity. The contrast, rather, is between two ways in which the Rhine can be revealed to us, two ways of letting something be revealed, two modes of techne—techne itself being a mode of revealing, as the essay elucidates. Yet what, then, of phusis, that other mode of revealing? Is it perhaps the case that phusis needs techne, not as a technical supplement in the sense of technicity, but as art, whose essence is poetizing (Dichtung)—needs it in order to show itself in a more primordial, more ancient sense? Must the response that the urgency of the question concerning the relation of technicity to nature elicits from us entail our becoming poets, or at least artists—and this despite the fact that any appeal to art as “the saving power” must seem hopeless in the face of the destinal force that is technicity? My remarks here elaborate on these themes by turning to Heidegger’s reading of Hölderlin’s hymn “Wie wenn am Feiertage…,” where nature is said to be “more ancient than the ages.”

Abstract:
The keeping of Iași theatrical personalities in the collective memory is a moral duty of researchers in the field. Accepting this principle, the project Iași Theatrical Destinies, carried out within the faculty of theater at George Enescu National University of Arts from Iași and financed by the City Hall of Iași, constitutes another concrete step in shaping the profile of outstanding artists, critics and pedagogues, who marked not only the local cultural history, but also the national and international ones. The connection to contemporary realities opens up new opportunities for presenting information. Thus, the Project will result in the creation of a “virtual museum” through which the stories of those, who were born or created in Iasi, and also served the theatrical art, will become accessible without time and space limits. The challenge comes from finding bridges that connect the information (scientifically substantiated - according to all the rigors of documentation) to the interest of the general public. The presentation of Margareta Niculescu’s contribution to the defining of the European animation theater in the second half of the 20th century is an example.

Abstract:
Written by Ben Hecht and directed by Jack Conway, Lady of the Tropics (1939) tells the story of Manon DeVargnes (Hedy Lamarr), a young woman of mixed-race who dreams of a life in Paris, and Bill Carey (Robert Taylor), an American bon vivant who falls in love with her. They marry in Saigon in the 1930s, but their return to New York, where Bill resides, is thwarted by Pierre Delaroch (Joseph Schildkraut), an influential local official and businessman who refuses to let her go. The film is loosely based on Antoine François Prévost’s novel Histoire du Chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut (1731) and features a pivotal scene at the opera, where Manon and Delaroch attend Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. This scene underscores a significant parallel between the cinematic Manon and her operatic counterpart. Examining the film through the lenses of intertextuality, intermediality, gender, race, and stardom, this article argues that the cinematic portrayal of Manon prompts a reinterpretation of her operatic predecessor’s character and destiny, thereby complicating and enriching the debate on the intersection of opera and film. In dialogue with Stanley Cavell, whose claim that cinema inherits opera has greatly influenced this debate, the article positions Lady of the Tropics within a category of films, including Norman Jewison’s Moonstruck (1987) or Istbán Szabó’s Meeting Venus (1991), where a specific opera “enters the substance of a film.” However, unlike Cavell, this article contends that cinema has the potential to dismantle rather than perpetuate the fantasies that connect opera and film via notions of inheritance and destiny. No destiny, I maintain, is preordained—neither Manon’s nor opera’s.

TECHNICOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF WASTE BIOMASS OF PUPUNHEIRA FOR BIOENERGY PRODUCTION ABSTRACT: The high generation of organic material in the production and processing of palm heart demands an adequate management of this biomass, destining it to efficient and sustainable use. In this sense, this research characterized the residual biomass of Bactris gasipaes Kunth (Pupunheira), from the heart-of-palm harvesting on the coast of Paraná (PR) for the production of bioenergy. The study was developed at the experimental station of the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Rural do Paraná - IAPAR - EMATER (IDR - Paraná) in the city of Morretes-PR. For executing the work, three plants were selected at the cut point of the heart-of-palm, which were cut and separated in stipe, leaves and palm heart with a sheath. The moisture content, clear density, gross and net heat value, proximate analysis, structural components of the biomass (holocellulose and lignin contents), extract content and Fuel Value Index (FVI) was determined. The residual dry biomass was 20,065 kg ha-1 year-1, with leaves representing (55.51%). The results indicated that the stipe sample with the highest FVI suggests that this material is the most suitable for energy use, but not exclude, the leaf potential for their use in energy generation. Keywords: Bactris gasipaes, energy biomass, heat value, fuel value index

Abstract:
The function of architecture is to be a meeting place, signifying a contact in the realm of destinies. Cities, squares, intersections and houses are subjects of social and existential communication. Today, news, events and trade go into the virtual space of planetary or regional life, so cities with their squares, intersections and houses are becoming knots and seams of this fabric. But architecture as a “thing made of stone” has not lost its significance in the formation of cultural meanings and human destinies.
