Friedrich Freiherr von Gagern (1882-1947) war Zeit seines Lebens ein bekannter, wenn auch nicht berühmter Schriftsteller. Er entstammt einem alten Adelsgeschlecht, das ursprünglich im deutschen Norden (Insel Rügen) beheimatet war; unter seinen Vorfahren sind Politiker und politische Schriftsteller zu finden, mütterlicherseits war er mit Anastasius Grün (Anton Alexander Graf Auersperg, (1806-1876), verwandt. Im vierten Band der Deutsch-Österreichischen Literaturgeschichte von Nagl und Zeidler wird er als "einer der bedeutendsten Erzähler unserer Zeit" bezeichnet.

Theoretical basis The essence of discounted cash flow valuation is simple; the asset is worth the expected cash flows it will generate, discounted to the reference date for the valuation exercise (normally, the day of the calculation). A survey article was written in Parker (1968), where it was stated that the earliest interest rate tables (use to discount value to the present) dated back to 1340. Works from Boulding (1935) and Keynes (1936) derived the IRR (Internal Rate of Return) for an investment. Samuelson (1937) compared the IRR and NPV (Net Present Value) approaches, arguing that rational investors should maximize NPV and not IRR. The previously mentioned works and the publication of Joel Dean’s reference book (Dean, 1951) on capital budgeting set the basis for the widespread use of the discounted cash flow approach into all business areas, aided by developments in portfolio theory. Nowadays, probably the model with more widespread use is the FCFE/FCFF (Free Cash Flow to Equity and Free Cash Flow to Firm) model. For simplification purposes, we will focus on the FCFE model, which basically is the FCF model’s version for the potential dividends. The focus is to value the business based on its dividends (potential or real), and thus care must be taken in order not to double count cash flows (this matter was treated in this case) and to assess what use is given to that excess cash flow – if it is invested wisely, what returns will come of them, how it is accounted for, etc. (Damodaran, 2006). Zusammenfassung Die in der Geschichtsschreibung zum Ersten Weltkrieg häufig vernachlässigte Rolle Italiens beim Zusammenbruch des habsburgischen Reiches steht im Zentrum dieser Abhandlung. Erörtert werden auch die Alternativen zum Weltkriegsende, die in den Monaten September 1917 bis Januar 1918 bestanden hatten. Erst nach der Entscheidung der Entente, auf das Selbstbestimmungsrecht der Nationalitäten im Habsburgerreich zu setzen, waren diese Alternativen nicht mehr praktikabel. Nach ihnen zu fragen hilft, der Vergangenheit ihre Zukunft zurückzugeben. Wie ernsthaft solche Alternativen erwogen wurden, macht das britische Kriegskabinett deutlich, das im Spätsommer 1917, als die Zukunft Russlands völlig ungewiss schien, befand, der Krieg könnte unmöglich mit einem vollen Sieg der Entente enden. Deshalb wurden die Sondierungen mit Österreich um einen Separatfrieden intensiviert. Die Lage der Entente verschlechterte sich noch nach der italienischen Niederlage im Oktober 1917 und durch die Friedensverhandlungen zwischen den russischen Bolschewiki und den Mittelmächten. In dieser brisanten Lage lancierten italienische Politiker, Journalisten und Intellektuelle die Losung „Selbstbestimmungsrecht für die ‚unterdrückten Nationalitäten‘“. Dies zielte auf die Auflösung Österreich-Ungarns. Sie wurde Anfang April 1918 in Rom von der Entente in Anwesenheit von Vertretern der „unterdrückten Nationalitäten“ feierlich angekündigt. Italien spielte zweimal eine bedeutende Rolle im Krieg: Als es nach dem Ausscheiden Russlands und Rumäniens weiter Österreich-Ungarns Truppen an der italienischen Front band, die somit nicht für die entscheidende deutsche Offensive an der Westfront zur Verfügung standen, und als es mit Erfolg die Auflösung der Habsburgermonarchie betrieb.

The article presents the semantic history of the word flapper that denotes social stereotype of American culture. Being a multifaceted phenomenon of semantic cognition, a sociocultural stereotype presents a condensed and coded information that develops on the background of a cultural context. The semantic analysis from diachronic perspective sets up a correspondence of Latin origin of the word flapper with Indo-European stem that produced a number of words in Germanic languages. The cognate words of related languages reveal conformity of negative connotations determined by attitude to human weakness in different forms of its manifestations. This presumes historically determined negative connotation of the word flapper. The initial designation was motivated by kinetic characteristic of the object – a vertical movement. The meaning “a young and daring American girl of the 1920s” of the word flapper was semantically motivated. As it was stated, at the moment of designation, youth and immaturity of a girl were conceived of a fledgling image, that traditionally symbolizes inexperience of a youngster. SUMMARY Sound changes play a crucial role in historical phonology, and their adequate description must include a typological classification. Graphic material usually offers sufficient evidence for a typology of phonotactic and phonemic change, but reflects phonetic change infrequently. The main types of phonemic change have long since been identified (Penzl 1957, Moulton 1967). A long list of phonetic changes has been established as well (cf. Paul et al. 1989), and most can be shown to have influenced the phonemic system of German in its various historical stages. Many widely differing linguistic approaches have been applied to phonology. The generativists, for example, conceived of speech sounds as bundles of distinctive features drawn from a universal set of elements defined on a strictly binary basis. Although this approach as a whole is problematic with regard to the analysis of historical sound change, the description of language-specific features can be very fruitful. Three pairs of features significant in the history of German are examined in the present paper: [±long], [±rounded], [±diphthongal]. Features of phonemes may be either distinctive or redundant. In the Germanic languages [+rounded] is redundant for back vowels such as /o/ /u/, but distinctive for front vowels: this feature distinguishes NHG long and short /ö/ /u/ from long and short /e/ A/. The features [±long] are distinctive for vowels through much of their history in the Germanic languages, although they are seldom directly represented ortho-graphically. Distinctive features can also be purely allophonic, that is, phonetically but not phonemically distinctive (e.g., [-diphthongal] at the beginning of the OHG and ENHG monophthongizations). Distinctive features may undergo many types of change as a language develops. The present paper does not attempt a complete typological classification of such changes, but offers a brief illustration of their usefulness in historical phonology. Dejà en 1901, Eduard Sievers avait distingué le changement phonétique graduel des changements phonotactiques. Le présent travail propose que, à côté de la description synchronique des traits distinctifs et redondants des phonèmes comme, par exemple, [long], [rond], [diphtongué], etc., on devrait décrire également le changement phonétique diachronique comme changement de traits. Dans I'évolution de l'allemand le changement de certaines paires de traits s'est avéré particulierement important. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die Typen des Phonemwandels und der phonetischen Veranderungen, die in der deutschen Sprachgeschichte vorkommen, sind erkannt und beschrieben worden. Schon Eduard Sievers (1901) unterschied vom allmahlichen Lautwan-del die phonotaktischen Wandlungen. Neben der synchronischen Beschrei-bung der distinktiven oder redundanten Merkmale der Phoneme wie z.B. [lang], [rund], [zweilautig] und dergleichen sollte diachronisch Lautwandel auch als Merkmalwandel beschrieben werden. In der Geschichte des Deutschen hat sich der Wandel gewisser vokalischer Merkmalpaare als besonders wichtig erwiesen.

ZusammenfassungIngrid Belke (geb. 11.02.1935 in Falkensee/Berlin – gest. 24.09.2017 in Stuttgart) war ein einzigartiger und außergewöhnlicher Mensch, als Persönlichkeit und als Wissenschaftlerin. Als ich sie im Zusammenhang mit der Veröffentlichung ihrer pionierhaften Doktorarbeit über Josef Popper-Lynkeus und die Reformbewegung des Wiener Bürgertums (1978) kennengelernt habe, war ich von ihrer Offenheit, Gelehrsamkeit und aufgeklärten Gesinnung sofort beeindruckt. Wir schlossen schnell persönliche Freundschaft und haben uns seitdem regelmäßig in zahlreichen Gesprächen und Briefen ausgetauscht. Diese anregenden Begegnungen bezogen sich auf die gemeinsamen Interessen wie die Wiener Moderne, Karl Popper und die österreichische Philosophie, die Zeitgeschichtsschreibung, nicht zuletzt auf das durchgehende Thema von Emigration und Exil. Selbstverständlich hat Inge an unserem großen Symposium „Vertriebene Vernunft“ (1987) teilgenommen und sich mehrmals an den Veranstaltungen des Instituts Wiener Kreis mit Wort und Schrift bis zum Ende ihres Lebens nachhaltig beteiligt. Zuletzt tat sie dies eindrucksvoll an der Konferenz „Logischer Empirismus, Lebensreform und die Deutsche Jugendbewegung“ im Jahre 2016 mit ihrem wohl letzten Vortrag, nämlich über Friedrich Jodl (1894–1914), den deutsch-österreichischen Philosophen des Monismus und der Ethischen Bewegung. Dieser Vortragstext ist nun in gekürzter Fassung im vorliegenden Band als eine Art geistiges Vermächtnis der Autorin abgedruckt. Der Text spiegelt ihre lebenslange Beschäftigung mit der Wiener Kulturbewegung der Jahrhundertwende um 1900 und schließt einen thematischen Kreis ihrer radikal aufgeklärten Gesinnung seit ihrer Dissertation. Dieses Interesse an Wien verband Inge immer auch mit ihren persönlichen Kontakten, zum Beispiel mit dem Schriftsteller-Paar Elisabeth Freundlich und Günther Anders, oder mit dem Volksbildner und kurzzeitigen Kulturpolitiker Viktor Matejka, mit dem wir beide befreundet waren. Karl Popper, mit dem Inge lange eng verbunden war und dessen Autobiographie sie mitübersetzte, hatte sie eingeladen, seine Biographie zu schreiben, was sie aber nach längerem Zögern ablehnte. Der entsprechende Briefwechsel im Popper-Nachlass stellt eine beeindruckende Quelle für diese persönliche und geistige Zusammenarbeit dar.
