Amphiphilicity of the complexes was introduced into the shells by incorporating a hydrophobic poly(propylene oxide) segment into the block copolymer. Cardiac patches comprised of embryonic stem cell derived cardiomyocytes (ESC-CMs) attached to biodegradable polymeric substrates were developed for patients suffering from heart attacks. Cardiomyocytes were derived from mouse and human embryonic stem cell (ESC).
