Abstract:
A review of the three articles on feminist identity development in this issue indicates that (a) the Feminist Identity Development Scale (FIDS) and the Feminist Identity Composite (FIC) perform similarly and acceptably in psychometric analyses, (b) no research has properly tested whether there are true stages of feminist identity development, and (c) existing scales do not specify scoring that permits the classification of an individual into a stage. Caution is urged in using the Downing and Roush model in practice, pending the accumulation of longitudinal evidence that true stages exist.

This study investigated the utility of applying the social constructionist perspective to adolescent sexual minority identity development, disclosure, and identity explorations. Differences between middle and late adolescents and male and females were examined. No differences were found between middle and late adolescents on measures of identity development and identity exploration; however, differences in identity disclosure were found regarding history of accidental discovery of sexual orientation. Abstract:
In an extension of Louden's work, this study investigated identity development across the lifespan by applying Erickson's and Marcia's identity constructs to two developmental models, the selective optimization and compensation model and a holistic wellness model. Data was gathered from traditionally aged college freshmen and adults older than 60 years of age. Uncommitted identity statuses and work and leisure wellness domains were endorsed across both groups, suggesting that identity for these groups is in a state of fluctuation yet entailing participation as a productive member of society. Abstract:
This study provides insight into the lives of stigmatized people by describing the effects of stigma on minority identity development. The stigmatization of certain groups within the school perpetuates the physical and psychological abuse outside in society. Because gay people are more at-risk for overt displays of stigmatization than most minority groups in our society, this study chose to investigate adolescent homosexual identity and the effects of stigma in their lives. The existing research on multiracial individuals primarily focused on specific periods of life or sampled particular multiracial mixtures. Instead, this thesis attempts to consolidate the preceding research to provide a comprehensive and encompassing analysis of identity development for multiracial individuals in reference to life stages: childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. By compiling research to address multiracial individuals’ identity formation, mixed-race individuals can learn about the benefi
