Full textThe connections between Societies and Nature, as well as their representations, have evolved much throughout centuries; they did so according to prevailing philosophical, economic, political and religious contexts. They switched from a method led by apprehension, exclusion, conflict of interest and finally to a form of respect and balance. Today, the Urban-Man starts to realize, after centuries trying to rule and to normalize Nature, that he has just destroyed its original aspect but that it’s still omnipresent. Historical processes, such as mass urbanization or industrialization relying on the exploitation of subsoil resources, have however gained the upper hand over natural places which have been destroyed or erased or still have been exploited for economic purpose. Since the 1990s mainly, and particularly in France, we talk about sustainable development as a new philosophy which would lead us towards a world where the political, economic, social, cultural and environmental volition would be more balanced. But how is this actually implemented on the territory? How do the towns of the former mining area in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais cope with the “innovative” environmental policies, in particular with the notion reinserting nature in the city? What type of town and society do we want to create for the future generations? Do we have a real questioning about the reinsertion of Nature in our urban territories or do we limit ourselves to reproducing schemes which have more to do with urban marketing? How is urban Nature conceived, under which forms?

Full textThis master thesis is constructed around the notion of territory and what the latter represents for the Kanak of New-Caledonia. As the Indigenous people of the archipelago, the Kanak are intimately linked to the land they occupy which thus becomes the primary underpinning of the group’s identity and history. The social organization, the rhythm of life as well as the indigenous representations are mostly derived from the manifold relationship they maintained with the territory. In such configuration, one cannot dissociate a human being from his mound. As a result of colonization and the historical evolution of the archipelago, Kanak society has undergone major transformations at the social, cultural, political and religious levels. However, one has to admit that many of the specific features of their tradition and custom have been preserved, valued and even revised in the course of time. Faced with the current developmental context, the Kanak appropriate for themselves the tools of modernity and try to make their voices heard at the local and national levels, while asserting their identity, their culture and their willingness to deal with the actors of development. The thesis analyzes the relationships and interactions between Indigenous and non- Indigenous people around the management of territory and its resources in the commune of Yaté in southern New-Caledonia. It focuses on the practices and expectations of the Kanak people in relation with the issues raised by the presence of the other groups of actors and interests in the region and by the difficulty to conciliate the conservation and the development of the territory.

Full textThis thesis is interested in the conflicts of interests which appear during the process of integration of a strategy of sustainable development in the company and in their forms of resolution. We show that the very consensual notion of sustainable development reveals conflicts as soon as it is the object of interpretations for implementation. We present the contributions and the limits of the literature on the corporate social responsibility and its managerial approach : the stakeholder theory. This theory brings to light the conflicts of interests but it leaves unresolved the question of their resolution. To study this question, we mobilize the work of Boltanski et Thevenot and apply it to the understanding of the process of formulation and implementation of the strategy of sustainable development of Botanic (garden centres). At the conclusion of this theoretical and empirical work, we propose a modelling of the process of integration of an authentic strategy of sustainable development which considers the conflicts of interests and their resolution forms. We complete the stakeholders approach in a socioconstructionniste perspective. Finally we plead for a seventh city, an ecological one, which seems useful to grasp the environmental aspects of sustainable développement

Full textThis thesis investigates two a priori different domains, the sustainable development and the tourism. The objectives of her program of scientific research are to assure a diologue, an exchange susceptible to enrich a new approach of the tourism. So, two furrows of the search are dug, in an interactive way, in the step of this thesis. The first one consists in putting in evidence the perverse effects of the mass tourism. This one is identified with the plan of the theory by the notion of tourism fordiste. This search underlines the abnormalities which coincide with the decline of the regime of fordiste accumulation in general. Putting in evidence the changes of the tourist demand in the direction of needs "in kind and in culture", the progress of the demonstration reimports the arguments of variety of the theories of the sustainable development in the field of the tourism. It is this conjugation which assures a set of developments and of arguments in favour of the notion of tourism post-fordiste. Adopting the theory of the sites, this thesis inverstigates this change in the field of the tourism by means of the notion of the situated tourism which has the advantage to be built in closer of the actors to imply them better and protect the specificities of sites. It is this economy of nearness and of durabilities (social, cultural and ecological) that tries to argue, basically, this search in the invested empirical case, that of Morroco who intends to welcome 10 million tourists on the horizon of 2010

Full textSince the end of 1980s, Sustainable Development (SD) has been made the object of much attention, driving the different actors of society to change their behaviors. Various institutional and private initiatives were introduced favoring the implementation of the concept. It was the case for example in Quebec, where the government introduced in 2004 a Plan de développement durable, followed by a the Sustainable Development Act in 2006. Various studies focused on the manner in which companies react to different pressures to widen their spheres of responsibility, but some key issues remain little studied in the literature. This is particularly the case for companies that display passive and negative behavior in the field of the integration of the integration of SD, and Small and Medium-Sized Entreprises (SMEs) in particular. SMEs offer a fertile ground for exploration because of their importance and economic weight, and their historically commitment to the environmental aspects of the SD. The objective of this qualitative study is to produce a portrait of the practices and the discourses of companies, in particular SMEs, in the field of the SD. More specifically, this research aims to analyze the stance of Quebec companies towards SD and of the public policies on this matter, as well as the perceptions of the SMEs which are less committed in this area and the justifications provided. To this end, a content analysis To this end, a content analysis of 69 submissions presented by the business community during the public consultation on the Plan de développement durable du Québec in 2005 was conducted, followed by a case study in nine manufacturing SMEs based on 33 interviews. The results allow to highlight the fact that enterprises adopt and justify passives positions to towards the implementation of SD are assumed and justified by the enterprises. In addition, the inactive behaviors in the field of SD seem just as legitimate as the increasing pressures and the prevailing views favoring the adoption of the SD. This calls into question the findings of recent studies, which adopt an optimistic view on the business engagement in SD, particularly among SMEs. Full textOur work is part of a research program on the renewal of the discipline of strategic management. The concepts of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility would allow this regeneration. We particularly explore the case of fair trade organizations. The fair trade is indeed included in the sustainable development either by the will of the actors of the movement (FINE’s declaration 2001, AFNOR agreement 2006), or through an institutional framework (article 60 Loi PME 2005). We critically question the extent to which fair trade organizations integrate and contribute to sustainable development. Our research method is based on an exploratory approach and a qualitative research case study. 47 interviews were notably conducted with organizations and stakeholders of the fair trade french community. We demonstrate that radical models of fair trade are the vectors that enable organizations to integrate sustainable development into their strategic management. We also characterize the corporate social responsibility of fair trade organizations by deepening social, ecological, and economic obligations they support to contribute to sustainable development. Finally, we report the diversity of fair trade organizations’approaches to be part of sustainable development project through a configurational approach. These configurations are expressed through four archetypes : ethical organization, solidary organization, sustainable organization and social organization. We therefore conclude on the existence of several fair trades and on the emergence of a fourth age of the movement, the sustainable trade
