Full textTHIS PIECE OF research RESTS ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT EDUCATION IS POWERFUL FACTOR OF DEVELOPMENT. THE METHOD FOLLWED HAS BEEN THAT OF COMPARATIVE EDUCATION STUDIES. THROUGHT IT, IT HAS BEEN POSSIBLE TO ANALYSE THE FEATURES OF EACH OF THE TWO EDUCATION SYSTEMS, THEIR DIFFERENCES AND LIKENESSES, THE AIM HAVING BEEN TO EXTRACT SUCH FITTING PRINCIPLES AND GUIDELINES AS MAY BE APPLIED TO AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION IN GENERAL AND MORE SPECIFICALLY TO AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION IN THE BAHIA STATE. THE APPRAISAL HAS BEEN MADE THROUGH AN EXAMINATION OF THE VARIOUS STAGES OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS : PLANING, ORGANIZING, IMPLEMENTING, MONITORING AND ASSESSING. ON THIS BASIS, THE CONCLUSION HAS BEEN REACHED THAT BOTH EDUCATION SYSTEMS ARE GEARED TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ONLY, AND SO CALL FOR A NEW DEFINITION OF THEIR OBJECTIVES SO AS TO PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT IN THE WIDER SENCE, THAT IS INCLUDING SOCIAL, CULTURAL AND POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS

Full textIIn early 90's, student mobility in the world involved more than one million individuals : nearly two percent of all students were pursuing higher education outside their home country. The predominant pattern of international student migrations is based on asymetric flows from developing countries to developed ones. These flows were originally designed to statisfy the needs of sending countries in term of higher learning and knowledge transfer. However, the student flows are now increasingly less organized and submited to severe regulations from host countries. The main subject of this present thesis is to describe this phenomenon through a study of the role and strategy of each actor involved in the process and to set up a cost-benefit analysis of foreign studies. The work was mainly based on human capital concepts, migration models and social welfare theory. Our statistical studies brought us to establish a world panorama of student flows as regards their impact both in sending and in host countries. The work also includes the building and testing of a model explaining the intensity and destination of the student migrations from developing countries to developed countries and a model explaining foreing postgraduates return rates to homeland

Full textThe state of the current political climate, which is prioritizing safe migration policies that benefit both the host country and the newcomer, is a topic of both debate and discussion. Despite having distinct policies towards immigration, Canada and France share similar problems relating to language learning, integration, positioning, and identity. In this qualitative action research study, we compare the points of view of important actors involved in this discourse, teachers and administrators, and newcomers themselves. Combining the results of an online survey with one-on-one open questioned interviews designed for both participant groups, we have observed the following: The programs developed for newcomers have limited foundations and influence relating to the successful integration. Regardless of language level, a key component to belonging, integration, confidence in the target language, and having a voice is reciprocity. Having a native speaker social network that accepts the newcomer and is “willing to catch them” appears to be paramount

Full textThis research is part of a dynamics of quality assessment and applicability of education on the environment in the science curriculum in elementary Haiti, while taking into account what is being practiced in France and Canada (Ontario). The analysis of the content of curricula of experimental sciences of these three (3) countries has served to mark such an approach. Irresponsible behaviors towards the environment faced with serious problems are aggravating factors that directly affect the entire population. Accelerated environmental degradation of the Republic of Haiti is a major concern that requires to look for more concrete and lasting actions in order to greatly contribute to solving these numerous problems. These findings require a different approach, a different way of thinking. It is a matter of orienting education and teaching to new paradigms including education on the environment enshrined in international forums as an important tool in the resolution of environmental problems and whose aim is to create citizens endowed with genuine environmental awareness. The analysis of the sciences curricula of elementary schools of the three countries under study allows to see that the school systems are moving more towards an education which tends to transmit and to make acquire knowledge about EE for the environment instead of placing the child in the real learning environment where he may develop close relationships with the environment. This observation led us to interview 50 school officials and 212 teachers of the fundamental level in Haiti about their vision, their knowledge and the place reserved to this concept in their teaching schedules. The result of the analysis of these data shows great ignorance of the concept in the school environment under study and in addition to that EE just widens the gap of school inequalities already obvious in Haiti

Full textIn a world that has become irrevocably global, and where the gap between continents and countries keeps widening, education can play a major role in developing ideals of international understanding, justice and solidarity. The objective of this research is to investigate how the educational community has been able to take into account this necessary opening onto South countries since 1945. Its focus is Africa : How has the educational community reacted to the main events on that continent ? What place has been devoted to teaching its culture and problems ? How have North-South relationships been taught ? And beyond ‘development education', this study also raises questions about the objectives of teaching and the teaching profession. Il is based on data collected in various types of educational establishements ranging from nursery schools to universities in the Grenoble area. It concerns all aspects of the educational system, from government-initiated policies to local initiative, and deals with all the characteristics of ‘development education', from informing students in France to setting up partnerships with South countries. It is largely based on statements made by the main participants ( high school and college students, teachers ). It also highlights the necessary link with international aid and solidarity organisations. Through these attempts, the North-South dialogue has found its place in schools, especially since the seventies, but it remains somewhat marginal. As a new millenium begins, ‘development education' proves more urgent than ever and needs a new impetus
