Full textFollowing the spontaneous and widespread rise of food collective actions (community supported agriculture (CSA), cooperative supermarkets, fight against waste, ...) a deep change has been happening within territories. This thesis/dissertation falls within this new tendency and explores how the food collective actions, especially the one initiated by farmers in rural areas, participate in territorial development. Coordination between actors and its interaction with space constitute the main sources of investigation. This research benefits from two case studies operated in a crossed way. The first one relates to a farm shop located in Ambert (France) whereas the second consists in a development project from a traditional community in Sao Mateus do Sul (Brésil). On these fields, I implemented interviews that gave birth to data for a three-dimensions analysis: social, space an time. The social matter has mainly been discussed through the assessment of coordination between individual/collective and the common acting together. The space horizon has been examined through the lens of physical objects which illustrate material/ideational/organizational of the territory. Lastly, the time dimension stems from analyzing individual and collective trajectoriesand from the dialectic relationship between anchoring / territorial opening, innovation / tradition gathering past, present and future together. Eventually, the crossed study from the two fields disclosed plenty of interactions between space, time and society, linked by circularity. The dissertation results in original tools and frameworks that raise the profile of these interactions and opens the door to discussions regarding the role of food collective actions in territory development
Cerceau, Juliette. "L’écologie industrielle comme processus de construction territoriale : application aux espaces portuaires." Thesis, Saint-Etienne, EMSE, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013EMSE0724/document.
Full textThe circulation of material and energy flows reflects the functioning of both biosphere and human societies. Industrial ecology, in its territorial approach, questions these socioecological interactions within a geographical area. It contributes to the definition and structuration of land into territory. Through an experimental approach led upon port areas, the aim is to reveal this dynamic of territorial configuration in industrial ecology. Territory constitutes a complex matrix of representations and practices, uncovered in actors’ speeches. From the analysis of 21 industrial ecology port case studies at an international scale, 9 territorial patterns are defined in order to observe and interprete this dynamic. Implemented in Marseille-Fos port area, these patterns allow the production and the interpretation of actors’ speeches in order to identify the territorial construction modes and to build a common territorial configuration, at the interface of actors’ representations and practices. This experimentation highlights a territorial embeddedness phenomenon for industrial ecology. It reveales industrial ecology’s contribution to a “territoriality-territorialisation” dynamic, leading to territorial configuration. It thus proposes a socioecological definition of territory, identifying biotopes and niches occupied by different actors. The overlapping of these biotopes and niches questions the evolution of port governance for the implementation of industrial ecology
Herbelin, Alice. "Ecologie territoriale et trajectoires de transitions : le cas du Rhône-Médian." Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes (ComUE), 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018GREAH026/document.
Full textTerritorial ecology is a research field which proposes to analyse the functioning of a territory under the perspective of the flows of matter and energy which passes by and characterize it. This analysis is particularly led through the concept of territorial metabolism. Through this lens, flows are considered in their material dimension but also under the light of the actor systems and of the political and socio-economic issues which influence them. Thus, territorial ecology tends to underline socio-ecological transition levers on the scale of territories. This thesis proposes to test these concepts through a field study in the mid Rhône valley. Looking back to the end of the 18th century, the research firstly underlines how a socio-ecological regime is progressively set around the industry sector and the heavy infrastructures at the scale of the territory. Then, the thesis describes how this regime gets materialized into today’s metabolism through the analysis of four different kinds of flows (energy, water, toxic elements, food). This metabolism is described as intensive and toxic – according to the level of intensity and toxicity of the flows at stake – as well as absorbing – in the way it deals with other territories’ metabolic functions (waste management, food production). These properties of the Rhône-Médian’s metabolism implicate limited capacity for local actors (inhabitants, public actors, farmers) to act towards the reduction or the transformation of these flows. However, within a context of change in production systems and of residentialisation, several local initiatives emerge. Through this process, local actors gain a better understanding and better capabilities to act on the flows of energy and matter in order to engage with sustainable territorial development. These local initiatives lead to several forms of reassessment of existing power relationships but the industrial socio-ecological regime remains, partly because some lock-ins which structure and self-sustain this regime are not questioned
Fernandes, Alexandre. "La coopération transfrontalière dans le processus de développement de deux régions périphériques : Beira interior norte / province de Salamanque." Thesis, Paris 4, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA040216.
Full textThe aim of this study is to analyse the territorial cooperation process in two contiguous regions of the luso-spanish border, Beira Interior Norte and the Province of Salamanca (BIN/SAL), and to measure in fine the INTERREG - A community program’s real impact on the socioeconomic and territorial development of these regions. The cohesion of the European space constitutes a leitmotiv involving different actions that aim at the reduction of the gap between border regions. The awareness of a cross-border territory and the appreciation of its common characteristics imply knowledge on the available resources, reduction of the barrier-effect and better cooperation. In this study, we will see to what extent, the BIN/SAL region fits into this cross-border problem. In this study, the different stages of the CIP INTERREG - A are analysed. Both regions, present a strong peripheral character and will be studied according to a multidisciplinary and multiscalar analytical plan. Lastly, the contributions of the territorial cooperation for cohesion between both regions will be discussed, as well the identification of recurring obstacles responsible for territorial long-lasting and alarming dereliction, in order to propose some hypotheses of development
Thesis, Paris 10, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PA100184.
Full textThis thesis aims to examine the integration of agricultural industries in the areas andspecifically assess then contribution to the local and regional development. Our research hascovered the Delta and the lower Valley of the Senegal River (the region of Saint Louis ofSenegal). The study of societies (CSS, SOCAS, GDS) located in this area has highlightedcertain strategic places: The Delta and the lower Valley (production area), the region ofDakar and the international market as supplying and marketing area. These societiescontribute very little to the development of the Delta and of the lower Valley. Among thefactors that account for the limited impact of these agricultural industries one can mention theparamount role played by Dakar to the detriment of Saint Louis, the inconsistencies of landand regional development policy as well as the regional an intercontinental context(competition, smuggling). This investigation has also revealed that the appropriation of landsparticularly causes time conflicting relations between agricultural societies and the localpopulations, hence the necessity for these companies to adopt the social responsibility ofcompany’s policy and to reform the land policy. The local councillors should also considertaking into account the agricultural companies in their local and regional development plan
Salinas, Rojas Andrea. "Dynamiques territoriales dans la gestion des ressources forestières des espaces protégés du Mexique : le cas du Nevado de Toluca." Thesis, Lyon, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LYSE3051.
Full textThis research concerns the Nevado de Toluca (Mexico), a protected area where the goal of forest conservation, while being hardly reached, calls into questions the livelihoods of rural populations. Territorial dynamics which ensue from these tensions are examined. The question concerns essentially the confrontation between the forest preservation such as it is carried by the public authorities on one hand, and on the other hand, the vital needs for the agricultural populations affected by the followed policies. The main hypothesis is that policies of forest preservation do not reach the expected results because there is no global vision exceeding the sectorial approaches of institutions in presence, and especially because the opinion of the farmers is not enough taken into account, due to lack of a thorough knowledge of the rural societies. To restore this knowledge, the research method consisted mainly, besides the mobilized documentation, of numerous interviews with the inhabitants of several localities of Nevado, with the various institutional actors and with the forest experts who participate in the preservation of this protected space. Using the TXM software, these interviews were analysed employing a quali-quantitative analysis on the “textometric” type. Among the main obtained results, we shall hold in particular the fact that the local populations have very contrasted social representations of their environment while having a full consciousness of the ecological challenges. They feel the limitations of use, in particular some wood of fire, as a social injustice. However, socio-spatial configurations and original territorial dynamics exist, and depend on the geographical context, in particular the phenomena of spatial and social proximity. The social cohesion of the groups is important and will be all the stronger as his members share the same cultural values, including religious ones. We also notice that the distance of the city produces paradoxically endogenous dynamics of organization which may also be a basis for an integrated protection policy in spite of the constraints of everyday life. All in all, this thesis suggests a reflection around arbitration between the forest preservation and the socioeconomic impacts on the rural poorest population groups. She invites to think of the justice environmental as of the fruit of the social innovation

Full textThis study focuses mainly on research into the role of higher education in social mobility for the benefit of the third generation, compared to the two previous generations. The qualitative and quantitative survey was carried out with 18 to 32 year-olds from the municipality of Haraba situated in a rural area of Western Libya. Indeed, the study focused on the occupational variations that have taken place in Libyan society, particularly in the study area, by comparing the educational levels and occupational diversity of three generations successively

Full textSince 2001, the notion of sustainable development becomes one of the essential reference table in new political orientations and legislative framework in Algeria. Many urban improvement projects, housing and equipments, as well as important projects are launched, seeming to prove that the will of public authorities to improve living conditions of citizens isreal. However, the question remains as to the relevance and the coherence of choices, particulary regarding urban planning and built frame management, with the objectives of sustainable development witch taking into account not only the economic dimension, but also environmental and social ones. This work proposes, based on the observation of three cities contexts representing the three major geographical areas of the country (the coast, the highlands and the Sahara) to highlight the conditions of elaboration and production of urban planning in Algeria, particularly through two research areas: - The first one concerns harmonization between urban and natural environments, by analyzing the citie from its ecological situation, angle of understanding and study not really explored, which could provide opportunities for innovation and improvement in urban development. – The second one advocates research of housing and urban planning process including broader view ofmeaning for the term social, which can overtake standard model of housing for deprived social group, and move towards a concept improving the recognition of aspirations and social specifities of populations by promoting notions such as well-being, quality of lived spaces, or residential satisfaction

-- Summary :This doctoral thesis addresses the relationships between adding value to agricultural products associated with a particular territory on the one hand, and tourism and local development on the other. It examines the question of the role played by local food products as resources and as levers for developing tourism, and proposes to respond by analysing the processes, effects and challenges of using the food heritage emblematic of Wallonia for tourist purposes. Broadly speaking, this research is intended to contribute to an understanding of the social and territorial processes and dynamics at work in constructing the promotion of local products for tourist purposes.
Unlike the many studies of the tourist promotion of local food products, this thesis does not focus on investigating their efficacy as a focus for tourism or on the economic performance generated by these activities, but enquires above all into the socio-territorial and tourist opportunities, effects and challenges to which these processes give rise. The aim of the thesis is thus not to seek a theoretical model that would determine the ideal conditions for adding value to local tourist resources. The aim is to analyse the role and influence of local and regional actors who are involved either individually or collectively in promotional campaigns directed at tourists, and to interpret the logic underlying these campaigns.
While the research focuses mainly on the ways in which local actors seek to add tourist value to these products, it also turns its attention to the tourists who visit the regions under study and seeks in particular to identify the ways in which their attitudes to traditional foods affect the image, representations and attractiveness of the products’ places of origin and the local food heritage. The first case study involves three Trappist beers from Wallonia: those of Orval, Chimay and Rochefort, brewed at the three Cistercian abbeys located on the territories of the same name. The second case study examines a single territory, the Herve countryside, where I analyse the process of adding value to three different local food products: Herve cheese, which is the only Belgian cheese to have received a protected designation of origin (PDO); the syrups produced by cooking apple and pear juice, commonly known as “Liège syrups”; and the beer of the Abbey of Val-Dieu.
The originality of this thesis lies also in the multidisciplinary approach it offers, insofar as it is situated at the intersection of human geography, interpretive sociology and regional economy.
