Full textEigenproblems frequently arise in theory and applications of stochastic processes, but only a few have explicit solutions. Those which do are usually solved by reduction to the generalized Sturm-Liouville theory for differential operators. The more general eigenproblems are not solvable in closed form and the subject of this thesis is the asymptotic spectral analysis of the fractional Gaussian processes and its applications. In the first part, we develop methodology for the spectral analysis of the fractional type covariance operators, corresponding to an important family of processes that includes the fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, the integrated fractional Brownian motion and the mixed fractional Brownian motion. We obtain accurate second order asymptotic approximations for both the eigenvalues and the eigenfunctions. In Chapter 2 we consider the covariance eigenproblem for Gaussian bridges. We show how the spectral asymptotics of a bridge can bederived from that of its base process, considering, as an example, the case of the fractional Brownian bridge. In the final part we consider three representative applications of the developed theory: filtering problem of fractional Gaussian signals in white noise, large deviation properties of the maximum likelihood drift parameter estimator for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by mixed fractional Brownian motion and small ball probabilities for the fractional Gaussian processes

Full textIn this work we study the polynomial family of operators L(¸) = H0+¸H1+· · ·+¸m−1Hm−1+¸m, where the coefficients H0,H1, · · · ,Hm−1 are operators dened on the Hilbert space H and ¸ is a complex parameter. We are interested to study the spectrum of the family L(¸). The problem L(¸)u(x) = 0, is called a non-linear eigenvalue problem for m ¸ 2 (The number ¸0 2 C is called an eigenvalue of L(¸), if there exists u0 2 H, u0 6= 0 such that L(¸0)u0 = 0). We consider here a quadratic family (m = 2) and in particular we are interested in the case LP (¸) = −¢x + (P(x) − ¸)2, which is dened on the Hilbert space L2(Rn), where P is an elliptic positive polynomial of degree M ¸ 2. For this example results for existence of eigenvalues are known for n = 1 and n is even. The main goal of our work is to check the following conjecture, stated by Heler-Robert-Wang : For every dimension n, for every M ¸ 2, the spectrum of LP is non empty. We prouve this conjecture for the following cases : • n = 1, 3, for every polynomial P of degree M ¸ 2. • n = 5, for every convex polynomial P satisfying some technical conditions. • n = 7, for every convex polynomial P. This result extends to the case of quasi-homogeneous polynomial and quasi-elliptic, for example P(x, y) = x2 + y4, x 2 Rn1 , y 2 Rn2 , n1 + n2 = n, and n is even. We prove this results by computing the coefficients of a semi-classical trace formula and by using the theorem of Lidskii

Full textTuring machine takes his information in a box marked between severl others. Taking informationat once on parts of two contiguous boxes makes state desappear from algorithm. Correspondent information is else noted in each contiguous part of the two boxes. It becomes so necessary to employ large set of symbols. Here is proved equivalence of such machines with turing machines. Author imagines now parallel machines in whic a plenty of contiguous boxes can be marked simultaneously, and the travelling of marks scan part of box all at once. He applie it to several classical problems. In marking at once two contiguous boxes, it is possible to take at once half part of the first and half part of the second one, third part of the first and two thrid part of the second one, and so on. On the bound, at the utmost shift, it rests two values in common, and in this case author proves again equivalence of such machine with turing machine he proves so existence of an unviersal machine and establishes relation with cellular automata

Full textThis thesis falls within the general context of the theory of set-valued systems. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the spectral theory of set-valued operators and its applications to the analysis of discrete and continuous differential inclusions. We study the concepts of eigenvalue and eigenvector for set-valued operators defined on a Banach space. In particular, we discuss some continuity results for these concepts. Next we extend Landau's concept of epsilon-eigenvalue for linear operators to the general context of positively homogeneous set-valued mappings defined on Hilbert spaces. We explore in detail; this new concept and, as way of application, we discuss the resonance phenomenon of a firstorder differential inclusion. Another area of application of the spectral theory of set-valued operators is the asymptotic stability analysis of a discrete dynamical system described by a convex process. We study the asymptotic behavior of such systems by using first- and higher-order spectral information. In the context of a first-order differential inclusion given by a convex process, we propose a new method for constructing smooth solutions and we study the dependence with respect to initial data. The last part of this thesis is devoted to the subdifferential calculus. As it is well known, several properties of extended-real-valued lower semicontinuous functions are equivalent to suitable conditions of the corresponding Clarke subdifferential. In this thesis we show that any such condition on the Clarke subdifferential still holds with any set-valued operator admitting the Clarke subdifferential representation formula

Full textThis thesis is at the crossroads of enumerative, algebraic and bijective combinatorics. It studies some algebraic problems from a combinatorial point of view, and conversely, uses algebraic formalism to deal with combinatorial questions. After a reminder about classical notions of combinatoics and algebraic structures, We introduce new combinatorial objects called the shifted domino tableaux, these objects can be seen as a shifted analog of domino tableaux or as an extension of shifted Young tableaux. We prove that these objects are in bijection with pairs of shifted Young tableaux. This bijection shows that shifted domino tableaux can be seen as elements of the super shifted plactic monoid, which is the shifted analog of the super plactic monoid. We also show that the sum over all shifted domino tableaux of a fixed shape describe a product of two P-Schur functions, and by taking a different kind of shifted domino tableaux we describe a product of two Q-Schur functions. We also propose two insertion algorithms for shifted domino tablaux, analogous to Haiman's left-right and mixed insertion algorithms. Still in the field of bijective combinatorics, we are interested in the second part of our work with bijections related to statistics on permutations and Eulerian numbers. In this second part of this thesis, we introduce the unimodality of finite sequences associated to different directions in the Eulerian triangle. We first give a combinatorial interpretations as well as recurrence relations of sequences associated with the direction (1, t) in the Eulerian triangle, where t≥1. These sequences are the coefficients of polynomials called the t-successive eulerian polynomials, which generalize the eulerian polynomials. We prove using a bijection between premutations and north-east lattice paths that those sequences are unomodal. Then we prove that the sequences associated with the directions (r, q), where r is a positive integer and q is an integer such that r + q ≥ 0, are also log-concave and therefore unimodal

Full textThis thesis explains the difficulties for "clean goods" to enter markets from the industrial economics view. An approach is then proposed to overcome the obstacles. Two barriers to the entry of clean goods on markets are emphasized : price competition and imperfect information. Price competition excludes clean goods from the market, because they require costly investments to reach the standards of their clean characteristics. Asymmetric information leads to a process of adverse selection, that exclude real "clean goods" to the benefit of "classical goods" or false "clean goods". Clean goods are "credence goods", therefore their characteristics are often ill-perceived by consumers. In addition, consumers are frequently mislead by sellers presenting goods as clean when they are not real clean goods. After this diagnosis, the restauration of a credible information appears as a critical point of the spreading of clean of goods on the markets. The supplying company must fully play its part. Lancaster's demand theory, which is particularly appropriate in this approach in terms of the characteristics of clean goods, shows the importance of consumer's behaviour and firms' strategies. In order to by-pass the price competition barrier to enter the market, the firm must choose a specific differentiation strategy. The economical characteristics of clean goods lead to consider their differentiation as objective (or real), but simultancously subjective. It is also horizontal, anf informative. In order to succeed in this strategy, the firm has to commit itself irrevocably and set its reputation at stake. It needs to start a massive communication policy, based on standardized and dynamic life-cycle analysis. Institutions have a major part to play, by updating the legislation to the present environmental problems (generalization of objective responsability, creation of environment courts), and by creating environment audit firms, able to certify clean characteristics of goods

Full textIn this thesis, we consider the coupling between two ideal and homogeneous plasmas, giving rise to a tangential discontinuity across a time-dependent hypersurface. The motion of such a fluid is described by the ideal incompressible magnetohydrodynamics equations. This shear flow leads to the creation of a current-vortex sheet. The first part of this work is devoted to the construction of analytic solutions to the current-vortex sheet system, using a Cauchy-Kowalevskaya theorem. In a second part, we look at the qualitative behavior of exact solutions to the current-vortex sheet system, obtained from highly oscillating initial data. We use tools of geometric optics and we exhibit the creation of surface waves when the initial datum is oscillating with particular frequencies

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the study and the mathematical justification of some models used in the numerical simulation of patch antenna. The reduction of dimension required for a correct description of the electromagnetic field lying between the patch and the metallic masse plan and the involvement of a boundary layer in the vicinity of the antenna edges makes difficult the direct numerical simulation of the electromagnetic field radiated or emitted by the antenna. A heuristic approach, called ”the cavity with magnetic walls model” is wide-spread in the engineering literature and used application for this type of simulation. In this work, we give a rigorous mathematical justification to this heuristic model using the matched asymptotic expansions method. Indeed, we show that in fact the heuristic model is a first order approximation of the true electromagnetic field emitted or radiated by the antenna. We also construct a higher-order model imporving the accuracy in the determination of the electromagnetic field. The construction of these models requires the handling of non standard boundary value problems which are thoroughly studied

Full textAfter a quick presentation of usual notations for the graph theory, we study the set of harmonic functions on graphs, that is, the functions whose laplacian is zero. These functions form a vectorial space. On a uniformly locally finite tree, we shaw that this space has dimension one or infinity. When the graph has an infinite number of cycles, this result change and we describe some examples showing that there exists a graph on which the harmonic functions form a vectorial space of dimension n, for all n. We also treat the case of a particular periodic graph. Then, we study more precisely the eigenvalues of infinite dimension. In this case, the eigenspace contains a subspace isomorphic to the set of bounded sequences. An inequality concerning the spectral is given when edges length is equal to one. Examples show that these inclusions are optimal. We also study the asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues for elliptic operators under dynamical Kirchhoff node conditions. We write the problem as a Sturm-Liouville operator and we transform it in a matrix problem. Then we find a characteristic equation whose zeroes correspond to eigenvalues. We deduce a formula for the asymptotic behavior. In the last chapter, we study the stability of stationary solutions for some reaction-diffusion problem whose the non-linear term is polynomial

Full textThe challenge of feeding 9.6 billion people in 2050 requires to identify sustainable livestock production systems that are able to produce more agricultural products while consuming less resources and producing less externalities. As part of a multidisciplinary research program (ANR-EPAD), we explored microeconomic tools for productivity analysis such as efficient frontiers to shed a new light on sustainable development of livestock production. Our models empirically showed that the progress margins can significantly differ depending on the objectives pursued in the context of eco-inefficiency reduction (input and pollution reduction, output augmentation). Exploration of "dual" models also showed that efficient frontier methods were relevant to provide an economic valuation of non-monetary negative externalities. For instance, our results on the economic value of carbon emissions were close to the observed carbon tax levels. The possibility for farmers to consider that nitrogen surpluses can generate some revenue illustrates the current debate on the integration of undesirable outputs in the Data Envelopment analysis (DEA), and the ambivalence of this indicator of environmental impact as well (either considered as a source of pollution to the air or soil as well as a source of income through organic fertilization). We developed an innovative approach to assess the determinants of eco-efficiency in livestock production. By combining GAMEDE (a "whole-farm" model) with a DEA methodology, we highlighted the potential for further questioning raised by the exploration of new types of modelling in agronomy (such as "simulation-based optimization" or "inverse modelling")

Full textDuring our numerical experiments, we came across what we called near-singular eigenvalues: discrete eigenvalues that are located extremely close to the continuum and hence lead to near-singular behaviour in the eigenfunction. Our solution method has been adapted and allows for the automatic detection of such a near-singular eigenvalue.
For the elements of the continuous spectrum [-1,+1], there is no non-zero function satisfying the associated eigenequation but there is a non-zero distribution that does satisfy it. It is not feasible to compute a distribution as such but one can evaluate integrals in which this distribution appears. The continuum part of the eigenexpansion can hence only be characterised by its (angular) moments. Accurate and fast numerical quadrature is needed to evaluate these integrals. Several quadrature methods have been evaluated on a representative test function.
The eigenexpansion was proved to be orthogonal and complete and hence can be used to represent the infinite medium Green's function. The latter is the building block of the Boundary Sources Method, an integral solution method for the neutron transport equation. Using angular and angular/spatial moments of the Green's function, it is possible to solve with high accuracy slab problems. We have written a one-dimensional slab code implementing this Boundary Sources Method allowing for media with arbitrary order anisotropic scattering. Our results are very good and the code can be considered as a benchmark code for others.
As a final application, we have used our code to study the discrete spectrum of a well-known scattering kernel in radiative transfer, the Henyey-Greenstein kernel. This kernel has one free parameter which is used to fit the kernel to experimental data. Since the kernel is a continuous function, a finite Legendre approximation needs to be adopted. Depending on the free parameter, the approximation order and the number of secondaries per collision, the number of discrete eigenvalues ranges from two to thirty and even more. Bounds for the minimum approximation order are derived for different requirements on the approximation: non-negativity, an absolute and relative error tolerance.

Full textThis work deals with the study of the Lyndon systems (for alternate order) and the symbolicdynamics of the expansions of real numbers in negative base. For a given real ß > 1, we showthe intrinsic ergodicity of the —ß-shift using a positive recurring prefix code and we determine theassociated zeta function. We study the conditions for which the —ß-shift admits the specificationproperty. Moreover, when ß is less than golden ratio, the language of the —ß-shift contains intransitive words. These words lead to some cylinders negligible with respect to the measure with maximal entropy. In the interval Iß=[—ß/(ß+1),1/(ß+1)[, these cylinders correspond to some gaps: small interval withmeasure zero (with respect to the unique ergodic measure on Iß). We make a detailed study ofthese gaps.Otherwise, we study the uniqueness of the number systems of integers in negative base and weshow that to each Lyndon word corresponds to a such system

Full textIn this thesis, we explore some methods for solving large numerical problems. These techniques are based on projection processes onto subspaces. We study different projection methods on block krylov subspaces for some large matrix equations. In the first chapter, we propose block Krylov subspace methods for solving Sylvester matrix equations. The proposed methods are based on block Arnoldi, block GMRES and nonsymmetric block Lanczos algorithms. We give some theorical results and numerical experiments to compare the performance of the different methods. In a second chapter, we propose a new Krylov subspace method for solving large Lyapunov matrix equations. The proposed methods are based on the Global-Arnoldi process. We give a new expression of the solution and show how to extract low rank approximate solutions to the Lyapunov matrix equation. We detail also some theorical results. We show how the Krylov subspaces techniques considered above can be applied to the discrete-time Lyapunov equation. We give the Stein-Arnoldi algorithm is a restarted mode. In the third chapter, we give a new block Krylov subspace method to a longe dynamical system by a reduced-order one. The theorical properties of this method are investigated, and a new expression of the Frobenius norm of the approximate residu is derived. We consider an implicity restarted method that can be used to accelerate the convergence speed. We also give experimental results. In the fourth chapter, we describe an algorithm based on the block Lanczos procedure for computing some eigenvalues. We present comparaisons between block Arnoldi and Lanczos procedures for computing eigenvalues of large matrices. We propose the block Chebyshev-Lanczos method for solving nonsymmetric eigenvalues problems. The behavior of this algorithm is illustrated by numerical examples

Full textThermoacoustic instabilities are spontaneously excited by a feedback loop between an oscillatory combustion process and one of the natural acoustic modes of the combustor. This phenomenon causes loss of performance and severe damages to the engine. However, aeronautical engines or gaz turbines manufacturers often observe this kind of instabilities during the experiments. In this work we propose a methodology dedicated to the computation of thermoacoustic instabilities usable in an industrial context. The coupling between acoustics and combustion is accounted for thanks to a specific Helmholtz equation including a reacting flow term. Using a finite element approach leads to an algebraic non-linear eigenvalue problem with N dimensions (N the number of nodes in the mesh). A point fix algorithm mixed with subspace iterative methods (Arnoldi implemented in ARPACK or Jacobi-Davidson) permits to solve this problem efficiently. Because aeronautical combustors usually present an annular shape with 10 to 20 injectors located all over the circumference, a multi-referenced (n-tau) flame transfer function is proposed. This thermoacoustic model shows amplified or damped, standing or spinning azimuthal modes depending on the parameter tau. This methodology is integrated in the calculation chain QUIET (AVBP-N3S-NOZZLE-AVSP) and it is used to study thermoacoustic instabilities of the Turbomeca ARDIDEN engine. The results are shown to be in good accordance with large eddy simulations of the whole combustor

Full textWe study the decomposition of a multivariate Hankel matrix as a sum of Hankel matrices of small rank in correlation with the decomposition of its symbol σ as a sum of polynomialexponential series. We present a new algorithm to compute the low rank decomposition of the Hankel operator and the decomposition of its symbol exploiting the properties of the associated Artinian Gorenstein quotient algebra . A basis of is computed from the Singular Value Decomposition of a sub-matrix of the Hankel matrix . The frequencies and the weights are deduced from the generalized eigenvectors of pencils of shifted sub-matrices of Explicit formula for the weights in terms of the eigenvectors avoid us to solve a Vandermonde system. This new method is a multivariate generalization of the so-called Pencil method for solving Pronytype decomposition problems. We analyse its numerical behaviour in the presence of noisy input moments, and describe a rescaling technique which improves the numerical quality of the reconstruction for frequencies of high amplitudes. We also present a new Newton iteration, which converges locally to the closest multivariate Hankel matrix of low rank and show its impact for correcting errors on input moments. We study the decomposition of a multi-symmetric tensor T as a sum of powers of product of linear forms in correlation with the decomposition of its dual as a weighted sum of evaluations. We use the properties of the associated Artinian Gorenstein Algebra to compute the decomposition of its dual which is defined via a formal power series τ. We use the low rank decomposition of the Hankel operator associated to the symbol τ into a sum of indecomposable operators of low rank. A basis of is chosen such that the multiplication by some variables is possible. We compute the sub-coordinates of the evaluation points and their weights using the eigen-structure of multiplication matrices. The new algorithm that we propose works for small rank. We give a theoretical generalized approach of the method in n dimensional space. We show a numerical example of the decomposition of a multi-linear tensor of rank 3 in 3 dimensional space. We show a numerical example of the decomposition of a multi-symmetric tensor of rank 3 in 3 dimensional space. We study the completion problem of the low rank Hankel matrix as a minimization problem. We use the relaxation of it as a minimization problem of the nuclear norm of Hankel matrix. We adapt the SVT algorithm to the case of Hankel matrix and we compute the linear operator which describes the constraints of the problem and its adjoint. We try to show the utility of the decomposition algorithm in some applications such that the LDA model and the ODF model

Full textThis Ph.D thesis deals with some spectral properties of two specific classes of two periodic operators. We are firstly interested in the model periodic perturbed by operator depending on a small semi-classical constant. We obtain an asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalue counting function in the spectral gaps with scharp remainder estimate. The second model studied in this thesis is a two-dimensional periodic elliptic second order opera-tor perturbed by operator depending on a large coupling constant. We also give the description of the counting function of eigenvalues when the coupling constant tends to infinity. The last part of this thesis highlights the study the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator perturbed by a fast oscillatingdecaying potential depending on a small parameter

Full textThis thesis focuses on the zero controllability of linear parabolic systems, in particular on new phenomena called "hyperbolic" in the control of parabolic systems, such as conditions on the geometry of the control zone or on time. We start with the study of an extension, to the N>1 space dimension, of a result in Dolecki 1973 published in 1973. Which gives a characterization of the pointwise controllability at time T of the one-dimensional heat equation. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition that completely characterizes the distributed null-controllability of the N-dimensional heat-equation, on domains of the form (0,1) x Ω2, with Ω2 a smooth domain of RN-1, N>1, when the control is exerted on {x0} x ω2, with x0 ∈ (0.1) and ω2 ⊆ Ω2. Our result is based on the Lebeau-Robbiano strategy and requires an upper bound of the cost of the one dimensional pointwise null-control on (0.1). In a second part we studied the null-controllability of two parabolic equations coupled by a matrix whose coefficients depend on space. In this case a surprising phenomenon appears : the condensation of eigenfunctions. The previous work required that the family of eigenfunctions to the parabolic operator considered form a Riesz base. The system we studied does not satisfy this hypothesis. Inspired by the "block moment method", proposed in Benabdallah,Boyer et Morencey 2018, we formulate an expression of a minimum time of control T0 depending on the simultaneous condensation of eigen values and eigen functions

Full textApproaching special numbers as harmonic sums or polyzetas (multiple zetavalues) in the spirit of combinatorics, we first focus on the study of algebraic structureson words by introducing the definition of a product on words, called q-stuffle product, acommon generalisation of shuffle and quasi-shuffle products, which allows us to completelyconstruct Hopf algebras in duality. Simutaneously, we establish recurrent formulas inorder to compute bases in duality, containing transcendence bases tied to Lyndon wordson which harmonic sums, the polyzetas and polylogarithms are indexed. We use them torepresent the factorization of a diagonal noncommutative generating series. In this respect,we determine asymptotic expansions of harmonic sums thanks to their generatingseries and to Euler Maclaurin formula. We also establish a bridge equation of polyzetas, which appear as fini parts in asymptotic expansions of harmonic sums and of polylogarithms, linking two algebraic structures. Through identification of local coordinates of thisequation, we can deduce homogenous, in weight, polynomial relations among polyzetasindexed on the bases. We also give algorithms and a package in Maple which, in practice, allowed us to find results and examples within this thesis
