Abstract:
An application GUI (Graphical User Interface) is designed as a software simulation to compare the output signal of DFT and DTFT. DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and DTFT (Discrete Time Fourier Transform) are part of the digital signal processing. Digital signal processing is an analog signal processing method uses a mathematical technique to perform a transformation or retrieving information in digital form. One of the benefits of digital signal processing is to facilitate the representation of the signal, because the signal in digital form will be more visible, easily processed and has high accuracy. This GUI application designed using LabVIEW from National Instruments. LabVIEW is a software graphical programming or a block diagram. LabVIEW program known as VI or Virtual Instrument. The input signal in this application is a square signal

Abstract:
In previous studies we used Laurent Schwartz’ theory of distributions to rigorously introduce discretizations and periodizations on tempered distributions. These results are now used in this study to derive a validity statement for four interlinking formulas. They are variants of Poisson’s Summation Formula and connect four commonly defined Fourier transforms to one another, the integral Fourier transform, the Discrete-Time Fourier Transform (DTFT), the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and the integral Fourier transform for periodic functions—used to analyze Fourier series. We prove that under certain conditions, these four Fourier transforms become particular cases of the Fourier transform in the tempered distributions sense. We first derive four interlinking formulas from four definitions of the Fourier transform pure symbolically. Then, using our previous results, we specify three conditions for the validity of these formulas in the tempered distributions sense.

Abstract:
<span>Image watermarking is one of the most popular techniques for authenticating copyright on the digital image. Many research on image watermarking has proved that the joint of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) combinations can improve both imperceptibility and robustness when compared to DCT or DWT only. Discrete Tchebichef Transform (DTT) denotes an alternative transformation that has a similarity property with DCT. DTT has an advantage in reducing memory requirements during computing, so the calculation speed is much faster than DCT. This study tested the performance of DTT and DCT on non-blind image watermarking method, where DTT and DCT are performed after DWT. Based on the experimental results, this research proved that the DTT was combined successfully with DWT and very potential for further investigation because it has a computing performance much better than DCT. While the image watermarking quality, both the imperceptibility and robustness aspects were completely identical with the combination of DCT and DWT transformation.</span>

Full text
Abstract:
The coprime discrete Fourier transform (DFT) filter banks provide an effective scheme of spectral sensing for wide-sense stationary (WSS) signals in case that the sampling rate is far lower than the Nyquist sampling rate. And the resolution of the coprime DFT filter banks in the Fourier domain (FD) is 2π/MN, where M and N are coprime. In this work, a digital fractional Fourier transform- (DFrFT-) based coprime filter banks spectrum sensing method is suggested. Our proposed method has the same sampling principle as the coprime DFT filter banks but has some advantages compared to the coprime DFT filter banks. Firstly, the fractional power spectrum of the chirp-stationary signals which are nonstationary in the FD can be sensed effectively by the coprime DFrFT filter banks because of the linear time-invariant (LTI) property of the proposed system in discrete-time Fourier domain (DTFD), while the coprime DFT filter banks can only sense the power spectrum of the WSS signals. Secondly, the coprime DFrFT filter banks improve the resolution from 2π/MN to 2π sin α/MN by combining the fractional filter banks theory with the coprime theory. Simulation results confirm the obtained analytical results.

In this paper using Density Functional Theory (DFT), the principal carbonallo tropic crystalline structures (Diamond, graphite, nanotube y fullerene-C60) were simulated. The results shows diamond sp3 bonds formation between carbon atomsand low reactivity, indicating low probability of lateral compound formation and high mechanical properties. Interplanar weakness was evidentin graphite structure, which is related to solid lubrication process. Carbon-Carbon metallic bonds and polarizations at the edges of the structure were observed in Armchair Carbon Nanotube, stabilizing the system which allows the nanotube continuous growth. In fullerene C60structureaFaraday nano-gauge behavior was confirmed, together withlowprobability of interatomic polarization, indicating high structural stability. Besides Total Energy (TE) and Nuclear Repulsion Energy (NRE) values were used to perform energetic comparisons between different structures, allowing the study of electronic stability and their relationship to mechanical properties.

Abstract:
Side chain engineering has been an effective approach to modulate the solution processability, optoelectronic properties and miscibility of conjugated polymers (CPs) for organic/polymeric photovoltaic cells (PVCs). As compared with the most commonly used method of introducing alkyl chains, the employment of alkyl-substituted aryl flanks would provide two-dimensional (2-D) CPs having solution processability alongside additional merits like deepened highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels, increased absorption coefficient and charger transporting, etc. In this paper, the triple C≡C bond was used as conjugated linker to decrease the steric hindrance between the flanks of 4,5-didecylthien-2-yl (T) and dithieno[2,3-d:2’,3’-d’]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b’]dithiophene (DTBDT) core. In addition, an alternating CP derived from 4,5-didecylthien-2-yl-ethynyl (TE) flanked DTBDT, and 4,9-bis(4-octylthien-2-yl) naphtho[1,2-c:5,6-c’]bis[1,2,5]thiadiazole (DTNT), named as PDTBDT-TE-DTNT, was synthesized and characterized. As compared with the controlled PDTBDT-T-DTNT, which was derived from 4,5-didecylthien-2-yl flanked DTBDT and DTNT, the results for exciton dissociation probability, density functional theory (DFT), time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) measurements, etc., revealed that the lower steric hindrance between TE and DTBDT might lead to the easier rotation of the TE flanks, thus contributing to the decrease of the exciton lifetime and dissociation probability, finally suppressing the short-circuit current density (JSC), etc., of the photovoltaic devices from PDTBDT-TE-DTNT.

Abstract:
Computations were carried out employing the restricted Hartree–Fock (RHF) and density functional theory (DFT) methods to investigate the geometries and energies for the 1,3-dithiole-2-thione (DTT), 1,3-dithiole-2-one (DTO), 1,3-dioxole-2-thione (DOT), and 1,3-dioxole-2-one (DOO) molecules and their radical cations. The geometrical parameters of all the four molecules suggest a finite extent of extended conjugation across the molecules. The radical cations of the DTT and DOT molecules exhibit increased extent of conjugation compared to their neutral analogues. However, on going from the neutral DOO and DTO molecules to their radical cations, the extent of conjugation across the ions decreases and two unsaturated sites become isolated from each other. Requirement of the relaxation energy for the formation of radical cation is much lower for the DTT and DOT molecules compared to that for the DOO and DTO molecules. Smaller relaxation energy requirement favors minimal resistance to charge transport along the molecular stacking. Therefore, it is speculated that the DTT and DOT molecules are better molecular conductors as compared to the DOO and DTO molecules.

Abstract:
Genomic selection (GS) aims to incorporate molecular information directly into the prediction of individual genetic merit. Regularized quantile regression (RQR) can be used to fit models for all portions of a probability distribution of the trait, enabling the conditional quantile that “best” represents the functional relationship between dependent and independent variables to be chosen. The objective of this study was to predict the individual genetic merits of the traits associated with flowering time (DFF—days to first flower; DTF—days to flower) in the common bean using RQR and to compare the predictive abilities obtained from Random Regression Best Linear Unbiased Predictor (RR-BLUP), Bayesian LASSO (BLASSO), BayesB, and RQR for predicting the genetic merit. GS was performed using 80 genotypes of common beans genotyped for 380 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. Considering the “best” RQR fit models (RQR0.3 for DFF, and RQR0.2 for DTF), the gains in predictive ability in relation to BLASSO, BayesB, and RR-BLUP were 18.75%, 22.58%, and 15.15% for DFF, respectively, and 15.20%, 24.65%, and 12.55% for DTF, respectively. The potential cultivars selected, considering the RQR “best” models, were among the 5% of cultivars with the lowest genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV) for the DFF and DTF traits—the IAC Imperador, IPR Colibri, Capixaba Precoce, and IPR Andorinha were included in the list of early cycle cultivars.

Abstract:
With the increasing power of computation systems, theoretical calculations provide a means for quick determination of material properties, laying out a research plan, and lowering material development costs. One of the most common is Density Functional Theory (DFT), which allows us to simulate the structure of chemical molecules or crystals and their interaction. In developing a new generation of biosensors, understanding the nature of functional linkers, antibodies, and ligands become essential. In this study, we used DFT to model a bulk boron-doped diamond slab, modified by a functional linker and a surrogate proteins ligand. DTF calculations enable the prediction of electronic transport properties in an electrochemical sensor setup, composed of a boron-doped diamond electrode functionalized by 4-amino benzoic acids and a target surrogated protein-ligand for influenza. Electron conduction pathways and other signatures associated with the detection and measurement of the target analyte are revealed.

Abstract:
This paper presents a listless variant of modified wavelet block tree coding (MLBTC) algorithm. Wavelet block-tree coding (WBTC) improves the image compression performance of set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) at lower rates by efficiently encoding both inter- and intra-scale correlations. The use of auxiliary lists makes WBTC undesirable for hardware implementation as it needs a lot of memory management due to exponential increase of nodes on each pass. The proposed coder named as hierarchical listless block-tree DTT (HLBT_DTT) that combines discrete Tchebichef transform (DTT) with MLBTC exhibits compression performance significantly higher than most of the DCT-based embedded coders and comparable with JPEG 2000, especially at lower bit rates. Further, HLBT_DTT requires only 10% of memory than that of DCT-based SPIHT/WBTC coders.

Abstract:
Due to the intensive use of discrete transforms in pic-ture coding, the search for fast and power-efficient approaches for their hardware implementation has gained importance. The DTT (Discrete Tchebichef Transform) represents a discrete class of the Chebyshev orthogonal polynomials, and it is an al-ternative for the DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform), commonly used in picture coding. In this work, we propose a new approx-imation for the integer DTT, with better quality and power-ef-ficiency by exploring truncation and pruning. The principal idea is reduce the values of coefficients to fractions enables trun-cation by shifts in the internal transform calculations and lead to lower values for the non-diagonal residues, which reduces non-orthogonality. We have also selectively pruned the rows of the state-of-the-art approximate DTT matrix. The approximate DTT architectures were synthesized for ASIC in Cadence RTL Compiler tool using a realistic power extraction methodology considering real-inputs vectors and the delays, with the Nangate 45 nm standard cells library. The synthesis results show that the proposed-pruned approximate DTT hardwired solution in-creases the maximum frequency about 10.78%, minimize cells area by 50.2%, with savings up to 55.9% of power dissipation with more compression ratio and less quality losses in the com-pressed image, when compared with state-of-the-art approxi-mate DTT hardware designs.

Abstract:
The role in the activation of microsomal 5′-deiodinase (5′-DI) of rat hepatic cytosolic components of Mr approx. 13,000 (Fraction B) was studied in the presence of various concentrations of thiol compounds such as dithiothreitol (DTT), dihydrolipoamide (DHLA), GSH, and 2-mercaptoethanol (2-ME). Although Fraction B (which was prepared by gel filtration to exclude GSH and GSSG) had no intrinsic 5′-DI activity, could not stimulate microsomal 5′-DI activity in the absence of added thiol and did not contain GSH as a mixed disulphide, it could produce a 3-fold increase in the maximal deiodinase activity achievable with DTT as well as other thiols, with the order being the same as the activation potency of these thiols in the absence of Fraction B (i.e. DHLA greater than DTT greater than 2-ME greater than GSH). These observations suggest that: a component of cytosolic Fraction B, designated ‘deiodination factor B’ (DFB), operates as an efficient intermediary to enhance activation of microsomal 5′-DI by thiols through a mechanism independent of GSH; thiols may participate in a non-specific thiol-disulphide exchange with inactive (oxidized) DFB to convert it into an active form that contains one or more thiol groups and is more effective than GSH or other thiols in facilitating the re-activation of inactive (oxidized) microsomal 5′-DI thiol (ESI) to its active state (ESH).

This study was part of evaluation taken to assess the role of DTST in achieving the planned objectives and to assess the impact of DFIT’s involvement in TB control. To assess the current status of worker safety in DMC/TUs of RNTCP centers in state of Bihar and the role and contribution of DTST in ensuring the same. This cross sectional evaluation study was undertaken in randomly selected 8 DMCs/ TUs in rural areas of two districts of Bihar state in 2007. Evaluation was done using pre-tested observational checklist and personal discussions with key personnel. Evaluation included assessment of role & contribution of DTST with respect to infrastructure & resource availability; Training and capacity building; Practice regarding safe disposal of infected materials & worker safety. Most of the civil works was complete in functional DMC/ TUs visited. Sharp pits for sharp disposal were available in only 50% of DMCs/TUs. Staffing position complete to nearly 80%. DTST role in capacity building training, infrastructure availably and monitoring of the programme has been remarkable. However there is a need to emphasis on importance of the worker safety and universal precautions during training. Effective implementation of clearly laid down National guidelines & policy keeping in lieu of the worker safety is the need of the hour when the programme gets streamlined in the general health system.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Daratumumab, a monoclonal antibody against human CD38, is an effective treatment for patients with multiple myeloma and has been licensed for this indication worldwide. Some other anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies, such as Isatuximab, are now under active development. A major concern of anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody treatment is the interference on blood compatibility test. Treating reagent erythrocytes with dithiothreitol (DTT) to denature surface CD38 is a robust method to mitigate this interference and this method has been validated internationally (Transfusion, 2016;56;2964-2972). However, the distribution of common alloreactive antibodies differed widely between Asian and Caucasian population. While column agglutination technology (CAT) is widely used in the western countries because of a much higher sensitivity in detecting Anti-K comparing to manual polybrene (MP) test, MP has a higher sensitivity in detecting anti-E, which is either the most common or frequently detected alloreactive antibody in Asia countries, including China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, and Thai. Furthermore, Anti-K is extremely rare in Asian population. It is therefore MP is still widely used at most medical centers in Taiwan. Nevertheless, the interference of Anti-CD38 on MP test is unknown. Methods: Per hospital guideline, all the patients planning to receive anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody treatment should have complete blood group typing and antibody screening prior to and after anti-CD38 treatment. Consecutive 11 patients receiving Daratumumab (N=7) and Isatuximab (N=4) at China Medical University Hospital were included in this study. Direct antiglobulin test (DAT), indirect antiglobulin test (IAT), and antibody screening tests (using MP, tube-CAT, and gel-CAT) were done before and after anti-CD38 treatment. In addition, repeat tube/gel-CAT with DTT-treated reagent erythrocytes (DTT-CAT) were done on blood specimens collected after anti-CD38 treatment. Since no alloantibody was detected in these patients, standard anti-E test serum was added into a Daratumumab-treated patient's serum and MP and DTT-CAT were done to compare the ability of these 2 methods in detecting anti-E. Results: Before the treatment of anti-CD38, alloreactive antibody was not detected in all the 11 patients. After anti-CD38 treatment, all the specimens of these patients showed pan-reactivity to the reagent erythrocytes (solid arrow of figure 1A as example) and DTT treatment mitigated this reaction (open arrow of figure 1B). Interestingly, all the specimens tested by MP showed no agglutination (solid arrowhead of figure 1C). Adding anti-E test serum into patient's serum and repeated the compatibility tests showed that a strong agglutination (solid arrow of figure 2A) on panel 1 erythrocytes (containing E+ RBC) and a weak agglutination on panel 2 and 3 erythrocytes (asterisks of figure 2A) by using CAT. With the DTT treatment, the strong agglutination on panel 1 erythrocytes persisted (open arrow of figure 2B) and the weak agglutination on panel 2 and 3 erythrocytes disappeared (asterisks of figure 2B). By using MP, the agglutination on panel 1 erythrocytes is very strong (solid arrowhead of figure 2C) and there was clearly no agglutination on panel 2 and 3 erythrocytes (asterisks of figure 2C). In addition, positive DAT was found in 2 patients after anti-CD38 treatment without clinical evidence of hemolysis. Conclusion: Our study for the first time showed that Anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody treatment (both Daratumumab and Isatuximab) do NOT interfere with the blood compatibility test and do not jeopardize the ability of detecting anti-E by using manual polybrene. Since anti-E is the most common alloreactive antibody in Asian population and MP is more sensitive in detecting anti-E, MP is thus the preferred method for Asian patients who received anti-CD38 treatment. Furthermore, MP is also a viable alternative to DTT-CAT for blood bank when DTT is not readily available. Figure 1 Figure 1. Disclosures Yeh: GNT Biotech & Medicals Crop.: Research Funding.

Abstract:
Platelet activating factor (PAF), a potent inflammatory mediator, is implicated in several proinflammatory/inflammatory diseases such as glomerulonephritis, glomerulosclerosis, atherosclerosis, cancer, allergy, and diabetes. PAF can be produced by several renal cells under appropriate stimuli and it is thought to be implicated in renal diseases. The aim of this study is the characterization of DTT-insensitive cholinephosphotransferase (PAF-CPT) of human mesangial cell (HMC), the main regulatory enzyme of PAFde novobiosynthetic pathway. Microsomal fractions of mesangial cells were isolated and enzymatic activity and kinetic parameters were determined by TLC and in vitro biological test in rabbit washed platelets. The effect of bovine serum albumin (BSA), dithiothreitol (DTT), divalent cations (Mg2+and Ca2+), EDTA, and various chemicals on the activity of PAF-CPT of HMC was also studied. Moreover, preliminary in vitro tests have been performed with several anti-inflammatory factors such as drugs (simvastatin, IFNa, rupatadine, tinzaparin, and salicylic acid) and bioactive compounds of Mediterranean diet (resveratrol and lipids of olive oil, olive pomace, sea bass “Dicentrarchuslabrax,” and gilthead sea bream “Sparus aurata”). The results indicated that the above compounds can influence PAF-CPT activity of HMC.

Abstract:
Object Anterior temporal lobe resection plus amygdalohippocampectomy can cause damage to the anterior portion of the optic radiation, also known as the Meyer loop, resulting in homonymous superior quadrantanopia. Magnetic resonance diffusion tensor tractography (DTT) of the Meyer loop can help in surgical planning. In this study, the distance of the anterior tip of the Meyer loop to the temporal lobe pole (ML-TP) in the Southern Chinese population was assessed. Methods The authors studied 16 Southern Chinese individuals (8 men and 8 women; mean age 45.6 years, range 21–60 years). Diffusion tensor images were obtained with a 3-T MR imaging system using a single-shot spin echo echo planar imaging sequence. Two trained operators, one neurosurgeon (Operator A) and one radiologist (Operator B), carried out the DTT analysis with software iPlan (BrainLAB) and FiberTrak (Philips). Results For the 32 temporal lobes, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of the 2 operators' results using iPlan was 0.96, while that of Operator A using iPlan and Operator B using FiberTrak was 0.75. The ICC of Operator B using iPlan and FiberTrak was 0.81. The ML-TP distance of normal lobes (30 lobes [2 lobes that previously underwent surgery were excluded]) was 36.3 ± 5.5 mm (range 26.6–48.9 mm), 36.3 ± 5.3 mm (range 26.8–48.2 mm), and 35.9 ± 6.4 mm (range 20.8–48.4 mm) for Operator A using iPlan, Operator B using iPlan, and Operator B using FiberTrak, respectively (p > 0.05). Conclusions The 2 operators reached good agreement on ML-TP distance measurement using DTT. The DDT results can be more software dependent than operator dependent. The measurement with FiberTrak demonstrated larger range and standard deviation than measurement with iPlan.

Abstract:
Daratumumab is a CD38-directed antibody increasingly used for the treatment of adult patients with multiple mieloma. The membrane of red blood cells express CD38 and thus samples from patients treated with daratumumab show agglutination in red blood cell antibody screen tests performed prior to transfusion. This interference hinders the detection of red blood cell alloantibodies. Published literature has described a method to eliminate CD38 in red blood cells with DTT (Chapuy, 2016). This technique is cumbersome, requires positive and negative controls as DTT destroys Kell antigens and can produce in vitro hemolysis. The increasing number of multiple myeloma patients treated with daratumumab poses the need for a simple and straightforward technique with applicability in standard transfusion centers. DaraEx (Inno-Train) is a new anti-CD38 neutralizing agent that overcomes daratumumab-induced interferences detected in pre-transfusion tests without the major drawbacks associated with the DTT technique. Our aim was to validate and implement DaraEx as the method of choice to solve daratumumab interferences detected in pre-transfusion screen tests in a tertiary care center. A two-step approach using in vitro and in vivo samples was designed to validate the new method. First, we compared DaraEx efficacy in vitro to the reference DTT method in two samples spiked with daratumumab to achieve a concentration of 10mg/mL (Sample A: serum from a patient without known red blood cell alloantibodies; Sample B: serum from a patient with alloantibody anti-c). Red blood cells in the screen test (3 red blood cell screen; ID-DiaCell I-II-III) as well as positive (E+ red blood cells) and negative controls (K+ red blood cells) were treated with DTT 0.2M solution for 30 minutes at 37ºC and then washed four times with saline. In parallel, red blood cells in the screen test were incubated during 30 minutes at room temperature in a shaker (600rpm) with DaraEx. Red blood cells treated with each of these methods were used for indirect antiglobulin test with our gel card system (BioRad; IH-1000). Preference of method in terms of time needed and result interpretation was evaluated by three hematologists specialized in blood banking and four different technicians. Secondly, we tested pre-transfusion samples from patients treated with daratumumab with the DaraEx technique to check in vivo efficacy. There was a 100% concordance between both techniques (DDT reference method and DaraEx new method) in both in vitro samples. All hematologists and technicians found the DaraEx technique less cumbersome in terms of processing and time to result (2 hours with DTT versus 1 hour with DaraEx) and the interpretation straightforward. Twelve samples with daratumumab-induced interference in pre-transfusion screen tests belonging to 5 patients were tested between January and July 2019. All the interferences detected resolved with DaraEx regardless of time from last daratumumab administration (range: 7-145 days; mean: 57 days). Figure 1 shows screen test with and without treatment with DaraEx in a patient sample. In our experience, DaraEx technique is a simple, fast and efficacious method, regardless of time from last daratumumab administration, to resolve interferences secondary to daratumumab administration without the major disadvantages associated with DTT. Abstract:
In this research, we proposed and investigated the physical layer system called the full-duplex (FD) power beacon-assisted (PB) energy harvesting (EH) relaying cooperative network. The system model has one PB node, one destination (D), one source (S), and one relay (R) node. We investigated the system performance in terms of outage probability (OP) and system throughput (ST) with the power-splitting (PS) protocol in both delay-tolerant (DTT) and delay-limited (DLT) transmission modes. Moreover, the optimal power splitting (PS) factor in both DDT and DLT modes is proposed and derived. Finally, the mathematical closed-form expressions of the OP and ST are derived by using the Monte Carlo simulation with the help of MATLAB software. From the results, it can be observed that the analytical values and simulation values are the same in the effect of the main system parameters.

Abstract:

Abstract:
It has been shown previously that the thioredoxin system (thioredoxin + thioredoxin reductase + NADPH) may replace dithiothreitol (DTT) as a cofactor for vitamin KO and K reductase in salt-washed detergent-solubilized bovine liver microsomes. Here we demonstrate that the system can be improved further by adding protein disulphide-isomerase (PDI) to the components mentioned above. Moreover, NADPH may be replaced by reduced RNAase as a hydrogen donor. In our in vitro system the various protein cofactors were required at concentrations 2-5 orders of magnitude lower than that of DDT, whereas the maximal reaction rate was about 3-fold higher. PDI stimulated the thioredoxin-driven reaction about 10-fold, with an apparent Km value of 8 microM. These data suggest that in the vitro system the formation of disulphide bonds is somehow linked to the vitamin K-dependent carboxylation of glutamate residues. In vivo, both disulphide formation and vitamin K-dependent carboxylation are post-translational modifications taking place at the luminal side of the endoplasmic reticulum of mammalian secretory cells. The possibility that the reactions are also coupled in vivo is discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose: To evaluate and compare the dichotic listening abilities in non-hearing-impaired adults monolingual speakers of the Brazilian Portuguese language (CG) and simultaneous Brazilian Portuguese-German (GG) bilingual speakers or successive Brazilian Portuguese-Italian bilingual speakers (IG). Methods: This is about an observational, descriptive, transverse and quantitative research. The sample consisted of 87 subjects aged between 18 and 55 years, divided into: Control Group (CG), of 30 monolingual speakers of Brazilian Portuguese; Study Group A (SGA), of 31 simultaneous Brazilian Portuguese-German bilingual speakers; and Study Group I (SGI), of 26 successive Brazilian Portuguese-Italian speakers. The individuals were submitted to the Dichotic digits test (DDT) and to Staggered Spondaic Words (SSW). Results: The DTT results showed difference in right ear and total scores when comparing SGA to CG. Comparing the CG and the SGI, it was observed difference in right and left ears and total scores. Comparing the SGA and the SGI, no difference was observed between the groups. Results of SSW showed that both bilingual groups were significantly better in the right and left ears scores and even in total one when compared to CG. Comparing the SGA and the SGI, the SGI showed better significant scores in the right ear and total. Conclusion: Bilingual experiences seem to influence positively the ability of high predictability dichotic listening, evaluated by DDT, and the low predictability dichotic listening, evaluated by SSW test. The SSW results also showed statistically significantly better results for successive Brazilian Portuguese-Italian bilingual speakers when compared to simultaneous Brazilian Portuguese-German speakers.

Abstract:
Abstract:
We have previously reported cyclic cell-penetrating peptides [WR]5 and [WR]4 as molecular transporters. To optimize further the utility of our developed peptides for targeted therapy in cancer cells using the redox condition, we designed a new generation of peptides and evaluated their cytotoxicity as well as uptake behavior against different cancer cell lines. Thus, cyclic [C(WR)xC] and linear counterparts (C(WR)xC), where x = 4–5, were synthesized using Fmoc/tBu solid-phase peptide synthesis, purified, and characterized. The compounds did not show any significant cytotoxicity (at 25 µM) against ovarian (SK-OV-3), leukemia (CCRF-CEM), gastric adenocarcinoma (CRL-1739), breast carcinoma (MDA-MB-231), and normal kidney (LLCPK) cells after 24 and 72 h incubation. Both cyclic [C(WR)5C] and linear (C(WR)5C) demonstrated comparable molecular transporter properties versus [WR]5 in the delivery of a phosphopeptide (F′-GpYEEI) in CCRF-CEM cells. The uptake of F′-GpYEEI in the presence of 1,4-dithiothreitol (DTT) as the reducing agent was significantly improved in case of l(C(WR)5C), while it was not changed by [C(WR)5C]. Fluorescence microscopy also demonstrated a significant uptake of F′-GpYEEI in the presence of l(C(WR)5C). Cyclic [C(WR)5C] improved the uptake of the fluorescent-labeled anti-HIV drugs F′-d4T, F′-3TC, and F′-FTC by 3.0–4.9-fold. These data indicate that both [C(WR)5C] and linear (C(WR)5C) peptides can act as molecular transporters.

Abstract:
Abstract Background With the increased ageing of society, more and more elderly people are admitted to the intensive care unit, How to accurately predict whether elderly patients can successfully wean from the ventilator is more complicated. Diaphragmatic excursion (DE) and diaphragm thickening fraction (DTF) were measured by bedside ultrasound to assess diaphragm function. The lung ultrasound score (LUS) and the rapid shallow breathing index (RBSI) were used as indices of diaphragm function to predict the outcome of weaning from mechanical ventilation. The aim of this study was to examine the clinical utility of these parameters in predicting extubation success. Methods This prospective study included 101 consecutive elderly patients undergoing a trial of extubation in the ICU of Haidian Hospital between June 2017 and July 2020. Patients were divided into the successful weaning group (n = 69) and the failed weaning group (n = 32). Baseline characteristics, including RSBI, were recorded. Measurements of DE, DTF and LUS were made using ultrasound within 24 h before extubation. Results Median DE was greater in patients with extubation success than in those with extubation failure (1.64 cm vs. 0.78 cm, p = 0.001). Patients with extubation success had a greater DTF than those with extubation failure (49.48% vs. 27.85%, p = 0.001). The areas under the receiver operating curves for the RSBI, LUS, DE and DFT were 0.680, 0.764, 0.831 and 0.881, respectively. The best cut-off values for predicting successful weaning were DTF ≥ 30%, DE ≥ 1.3 cm, LUS ≤ 11, and RSBI ≤ 102. The specificity of DTF (84%) in predicting weaning outcome was higher than that of RBSI (53%), that of LUS (55%), and that of DE (62%). The sensitivity of DTF (94%) was greater than that of RBSI (85%), that of LUS (71%), and that of DE (65%). The combination of RSBI, LUS, DE, and DTF showed the highest AUC (AUC = 0.919), with a sensitivity of 96% and a specificity of 89%. Conclusions DTF has higher sensitivity and specificity for the prediction of successful weaning in elderly patients than the other parameters examined. The combination of RSBI, LUS, DE and DFT performed well in predicting weaning outcome. This has potentially important clinical application and merits further evaluation.

Abstract:
Introduction: Treating patients suspect of acute stroke requires efficient multidisciplinary teamwork in order to provide appropriate care. Several “Lean Management” methods have been applied in a variety of healthcare settings. Kaizen, meaning “improvement” in Japanese is a tool which emphasizes empowerment of employees on creating value streams to identify and reduce wastes, synchronize work flow processes, manage variability, and devise communication and sustainability plans. We report on the use of this methodology to improve our acute stroke care metrics. Objective: To optimize the management of the acute stroke patient flow process from the emergency department ED to destination therapy by applying the Kaizen methods. Methodes: This is a quality improvement project designed to evaluate the efficiency of the new workflow model for acute stroke that was put into place June 2018 at Hartford Hospital. A 5 day event spent involving all stakeholders from patient registration to destination treatment (IV or mechanical thrombolytic therapy) were conducted. During this event, a time work flow process for the management of suspected stroke patients was identified and an appropriate plan was formulated to reduce times. The following parameters were utilized: Door to CT scanner time (DTCT), Door to drug (IV-tPA) (DTD), and Door to mechanical thrombectomy puncture time (DTP). We included all stroke patients presenting to the ED and treated at our institution 6 months prior and post implementation. A non-parametric analysis was utilized. Results: A total of 135 patients were included in this analysis, 60 prior and 75 post Kaizen. Improvement across all parameters was observed post Kaizen with an average reduction time of DTCT 5 min, DTD 5min, and DTP 22min. The median times pre-Kaizen were; DCT 14min IQR 6-27, DTD 55min IQR 43.5-77.5, and DTP 128min IQR 88-151. The median times post-Kaizen were; DTCT 9min IQR 6-23, DTD 50.5min IQR 37-64, and DTP 106 min IQR 83.5-141.5. Conclusion: By utilizing the Kaizen, we identified numerous opportunities to reduce variability, standardize workflow processes, and ultimately reduce all parameter times. As time is brain, reducing pretreatment times favorably impacts patients’ outcomes and reduces morbidity in stroke.

Abstract:
Circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) are recognized as biomarkers and effectors of endothelial dysfunction, the initiating step of cardiovascular abnormalities. Among these EVs, microparticles (MPs) are vesicles directly released from the cytoplasmic membrane of activated cells. MPs were shown to induce endothelial dysfunction through the activation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. However, it is not known whether ER stress can lead to MPs release from endothelial cells and what biological messages are carried by these MPs. Therefore, we aimed to assess the impact of ER stress on MPs shedding from endothelial cells, and to investigate their effects on endothelial cell function. EA.hy926 endothelial cells or human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated for 24 h with ER stress inducers, thapsigargin or dithiothreitol (DTT), in the presence or absence of 4-Phenylbutyric acid (PBA), a chemical chaperone to inhibit ER stress. Then, MPs were isolated and used to treat cells (10–20 μg/mL) for 24–48 h before assessing ER stress response, angiogenic capacity, nitric oxide (NO) release, autophagy and apoptosis. ER stress (thapsigargin or DDT)-generated MPs did not differ quantitatively from controls; however, they carried deleterious messages for endothelial function. Exposure of endothelial cells to ER stress-generated MPs increased mRNA and protein expression of key ER stress markers, indicating a vicious circle activation of ER stress. ER stress (thapsigargin)-generated MPs impaired the angiogenic capacity of HUVECs and reduced NO release, indicating an impaired endothelial function. While ER stress (thapsigargin)-generated MPs altered the release of inflammatory cytokines, they did not, however, affect autophagy or apoptosis in HUVECs. This work enhances the general understanding of the deleterious effects carried out by MPs in medical conditions where ER stress is sustainably activated such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
