Background: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) have both shared and different cardiovascular effects, and commonly used fish oil supplements have considerably varied EPA/DHA ratios. Aims: We compared the effects of fish oil supplements with different EPA/DHA ratios on lipoprotein metabolism. Methods: In a double-blind, randomized cross-over study, normolipidemic adults (n = 30) consumed 12 g/day of EPA-rich (EPA/DHA: 2.3) or DHA-rich (EPA/DHA: 0.3) fish oil for 8-weeks, separated by an 8-week washout period. Results: Both fish oil supplements similarly lowered plasma TG

The dietary essential fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are predominantly found in fish oil, but fish consumption in the UK is low. Increasing the yield of EPA and DHA in cows’ milk would increase human intakes of EPA and DHA, and this can be achieved by including fish oil in cows’ diets. However, because EPA and DHA are susceptible to rumen biohydrogenation, their transfer efficiency into milk is low.In vitroobservations by Gulatiet al. (1999) suggested that if the concentration of fish oil in the rumen exceeded 1 mg/ml, EPA and DHA were not hydrogenated.

Abstract:
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid,22:6, n-3) is uniquely concentrated in the brain and is critical for normal development and function of the brain. DHA deficiency contributes to several neurological diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD), whereas high dietary intake of DHA is negatively associated with incidence of AD. However, clinical trials using fish oil for improving memory in AD patients and animal models were unsuccessful. We propose that this failure is due to inability of currently available supplements to enrich brain DHA because they are absorbed as triacylglycerol which cannot cross

Fish oil and its component fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have demonstrated health benefits including reducing cardiac death risk and lowering inflammation. Yet, fish consumption is below recommended levels, indicating a need for accessible and safe sources of EPA and DHA. The objective of this study was to incorporate EPA- and DHA-rich oils from various sources into plant milks. It was hypothesized that physical and oxidative stability of fortified plant milks would differ by beverage and oil type due to varying structures, viscosity, and endogenous a

Marine fish oil is the richest source of long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCn3PUFAs), particularly rich in EPA and DHA, with many health benefits. Lutein and curcumin are two bioactive compounds that prevent age-related macular degeneration and provide anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory functions. Directly adding fish oil (FO), lutein, and curcumin to meat during processing can produce products rich in DHA/ EPA, lutein, and curcumin and help improve human health without changing consumers' dietary habits. However, FO, lutein, and curcumin are unstable under processing and storage con

The purpose of this research was to understand the potential impact of drag reducing agents (DRA) on internal corrosion of liquid hydrocarbon pipelines. The first task of this project included a comprehensive review of literature and knowledge, both in public domain and from industry experience, on the effect of DRA on water and solid transport in liquid hydrocarbons, and possible interactions with other performance chemicals typically used in the oil and gas industry. This was the basis for defining the final bench test methodology and test matrix to be performed in the second task. A novel b

To evaluate the demethylating effects of 5-azaC on the general phenotypes, protein content, oil content and fatty acid composition at the whole plant system, soybean plants (Glycine max (L.) In in vitro culture, seeds were cultured in MS media containing 5-azaC at the concentration of 0, 300, 600, 900, 1200 and 1500 micromolar for 10 days. The 5-azaC-treated seedlings exhibited normal morphology in comparison with the controls except that their height and root length were significantly shorter than that of the controls, and were dose

Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is the major fruit tree grown in arid areas in the Middle East and North Africa. In the last century, dates were introduced to new regions including the USA. Date palms are traditionally propagated through offshoots. Expansion of modern date palm groves led to the development of Tissue Culture propagation methods that generate a large number of homogenous plants, have no seasonal effect on plant source and provide tools to fight the expansion of date pests and diseases. The disadvantage of this procedure is the occurrence of off-type trees which differ from t

Abstract:
We aim to evaluate the public debt sustainability of Pakistan using the debt sustainability analysis (DSA) framework and fiscal reaction function (FRF). For the empirical analysis, we use relevant important macroeconomic variables, such as public debt, external debt, primary balance, output growth, current account balance, and oil prices, over the period 1976–2021. The results of the DSA suggest that, at the 10% growth rate with a real interest rate lower than 10%, the public debt level can be brought under the 60% standard sustainable limit from the current 80% by the year 2030.
