Full textThe thesis focuses on the Chinese Nationalist Party in the 1920s as a special standpoint to analyze the political changes in China after the World War I. That decade was crucial for shaping the identity of nationalists and communists. Many works have already examined some aspects, but they mostly considered the years 1919-1928 as a pre-history of the Thirties rather than an autonomous part of Chinese history. Recent studies have overcome this approach by criticizing two of the main periodization in the Chinese twentieth century: the birth of the nationalist Republic (1911) and the birth of the People’s Republic (1949). Halfway, the 1920s stood out as a critical juncture in the transition from empire to nation-state. A new space of political discussion was defined. The process, albeit internal, was under the influence of the USSR and US international strategies and gave birth not only to a new vision of the revolution, but also to a vision of the post-revolutionary state. Also, the nationalist and communist leaderships turned out to be dynamic. That "competition" may be seen also within the two political movements and became a shaping factor for the success or failure of the party as a modern political formation.

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to analyze the relationship between the experience of consumption and body construction. The work is developed within a theoretical framework that provides for the integrated study of three disciplines: sociology, philosophy and experiential marketing. In particular, the sociological analysis of consumption has highlighted the complexity of postmodern consumption by placing within the broader socio-cultural context of the contemporary. A consumer wherever there are new ways of individual expression of identity with objects, innovative communication and sharing spaces (offline and online), and a plurality of styles of consumption that the consumer changes according lifestyles, tastes, preferences and social settings. In this context, then, it is important to study the consumption by a second theoretical perspective that involves experiential marketing, in order to understand the ways and strategies through which conveys marketing its product offering. Therefore, it was necessary to deepen the concept of consumer experience, providing a theoretical definition and its main characteristics. From these analyses it is highlighted the role of the body within the process of construction of experience. So, the study of philosophy was important to clarify the contrast between the body as an agent of experience and a vision that considers the body as an object of the intellect . In addition, through the analysis of the sociological literature, it has deepened the contrast between a vision of corporeality as an individual project, and one that considers the body as a cultural object. Finally, we examined a third interpretation (Featherstone 2010) that identifies the 'subject' a possible third interpretation of this phenomenon. The empirical basis of the thesis is based on the use of netnography for analysing a forum (Ciao.it) where the post of consumers of cosmetics and offline through 15 semi-structured interviews were detected. The thesis clarifies the categories of consumption reported by consumers, if there are new categories not identified in the literature and the difference between the online and offline communications experience. In addition, the analysis will outline the processes underlying the construction of corporeality in the experience of consumption and whether the 'subject' is presented as an effective third interpretation of the conflict between the vision of the body as an individual project and the body as a cultural object.

Traditional Chinese medical approach always deals with any disease with an integral view by using a special combination of different herbs. Each herb has its unique effect as well as balances the side effect from others and reaches to a holistic effect. Since metabolic syndrome (MS) includes obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia, the prevention and treatment of MS may be more effective by using the traditional Chinese approach, which takes advantage of complementary features among different herbs to yield a better result. In the past, some herbs used in Ba Wei Di Huang Wan (BW) have been found to improve blood glucose, dyslipidemia and even insulin resistance (IR). Therefore, in this study we tested the improving effect of BW on MS whose underlying pathophysiology may be related to IR. In our study, male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into two groups, the basal (B) group, fed with normal chow diet, and the high-fructose group, fed with 60% fructose diet to induce MS. Then, the MS rats were further divided into the control group (C), low-dose (1g/kg) group (L) and the high-dose (2g/kg) group (H). The study was last for 10 weeks. Biochemical parameters related to fasting plasma glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol, insulin and the activity and expression of insulin signaling pathway related proteins were measured. Body weight, abdominal fat mass and blood pressure were also determined. Results of our study showed that group C had significant increases in plasma triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL-C, hepatic triglyceride and systolic blood pressure as compared to group B. Insulin sensitivity of rats in group C was lower than group B. Compared with the group C, low dose BW ameliorated hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia and IR, and increased HDL/TC ratio in group L. In group H, high dose BW ameliorated abdominal obesity, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, IR and LDL/TC ratio. We also found that supplementation of BW ameliorated IR by enhancing the expression and activity of insulin signaling pathway related proteins, including insulin receptor substrate-1, Akt and GLUT 4. These findings indicate that BW supplementation is effective for improving MS.

Abstract Liu-Wei-Di-Huang-Wan, one of the Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM), composed of rehmanniae radix, corni fructus, dioscoreae rhizoma, alismatis rhizoma, moutan cortex and polyporus. In this study, the powders of six herbs with three frequently used excipients (Era-Tab®, Lactose, Avicel PH102®) were made to be novel herbal dosage form by extrusion -spheronization method. The tablets, pellets and common products were then stored at three conditions (30℃/ 75% R.H., 37℃/ 75% R.H., 45℃/ 75% R.H.) for three months. The contents of two active ingredients paeonol, loganin of these six herbs were then analysed periodically by HPLC. The results show that the active ingredients of paeonol for tablets are as stable as common products. Another active ingredient, loganin, tablets and pellets are more stable than common products. The possible interaction of the excipients (Era-Tab®, Lactose, Avicel PH102®) and active ingredients (paeonol, loganin) were studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC). The result showed that Avicel PH102® had no interaction effect with the two active ingredients, but Era-Tab® and Lactose had the interaction effect. The second part is the development of novel dosage form of Liu-Wei-Di-Huang-Wan by extrusion-spheronization using orthogonal array design. In the shape of pellets and yield study, the extrude screen and spheronization time are significantly variable. Then, the pellets are compressed at proper pressure and the dissolution rates of tablets are compared with TCM dosage forms. The result showed that the novel dosage forms of tablets and TCM dosage form had no similarity.

The facilitating effects of Liu-Wei-Di-Huang-Wan on the learning deficit in rats Cheng Sung Jen Graduate Institute of Chinese Pharmaceutical Sciences China Medical College Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the ameliorating effects of the aquatic or alcoholic extracts of Liu-Wai-Di-Huang-Wan (abbreviated as LWW or LWA) on various drugs induced memory impairment in the passive task and the facilitating effects in the two-way active avoidance conditioning task. We further demonstrated the action mechanism of LWW via combining with the drugs which could alter the cholinergic, serotonergic and GABAergic neuronal activities. LWW or LWA attenuated the impairments of learning acquisition induced by scopolamine(SCOP) and p-chloroamphetamine(PCA), the impairments of memory consolidation induced by cycloheximide(CXM) after acute administra-tion(2.0 g/kg), one week consecutive administration(1.0 g/kg) and two weeks consecutive administration(0.1 g/kg). Both LWW and LWA possessed the similar ameliorating effects. Furthermore, no changes in the general behaviours (locomotor activity, step-through latency of non-shocked rats) were observed. In two-way active avoidance test, LWW was active only when administered immediately after the learning training at 0.5 g/kg. The ameliorating effect of LWW(0.1 g/kg) after two weeks consecutive administration on PCA-induced learning acquisition impairment was significantly antagonized by the 8-OH-DPAT(the 5-HT1A-slective receptor agonist) and the DOI(the 5-HT2-slective receptor agonist). The ameliorating effect of LWW(0.1 g/kg) after two weeks consecutive administration on CXM -induced shortening of retention latency was significantly antagonized by SCOP(the muscarinic receptor antagonist), MECA(the nicotinic receptor antagonist), PCA(the serotonin releaser), 5-HTP(the serotonin precursor), bicuculline (GABAA receptor antagonist) and baclofen (the GABAB receptor agonist.). The ameliorating effect of LWW(0.1 g/kg) after two weeks consecutive administration on SCOP-induced learning acquisition impairment was blocked by the M-SCOP(peripheral muscarinic receptor antagonist). In conclusion, these results suggested that LWW and LWA were capable of improving performance of memory deficit in the passive avoidance task and the active avoidance task. Furthermore, Both LWW and LWA possessed the similar ameliorating effects in the passive avoidance. The mechanism of the ameliorating effect of LWW on memory deficit was related to decreasing the serotonergic neuronal activity(via mediating by 5-HT1A and 5-HT2 receptors), enhancing central cholinergic neuronal activity (via altering cholinergic muscarinic and cholinergic nicotinic receptor), activating GABAA receptors and blocking GABAB receptors.

Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (LWDHW) was recorded in the Pediatric drug card straight tactic written by Qian Yi during the Song dynasty. This formula is used for the treatment of infant developmental retardation. In clinical settings, this formula is used to treat kidney yin deficiency syndrome, such as aching waist, limp knees, insomnia, night sweats, dizzy head and dizzy vision, heel pain, dysphoria with feverish sensation in chest, palms and soles, thirst and dry mouth, fine red veins, uterine bleeding in women, and seminal emission in men. In this study, we used the National Health Insurance Research Database to investigate the clinical therapeutic applications of LWDHW in Chinese medicine hospitals in Taiwan. SPSS version 12.0 statistical software was used for analyzing the descriptive statistics. Statistical analysis of the database showed that a total of 18,148 patients were using LWDHW. The descriptive statistic results showed that doctors of traditional Chinese medicine (DTCM) prescribed LWDHW to most of the patients aged 41–60 years. The major course of treatment was for 4–7 days. The major disease categories among all LWDHW users prescribed by DTCM most commonly included “diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissues,” followed by “symptoms, signs, and ill-defined conditions,” and “diseases of the genitourinary system”. These diseases are close to the kidney yin deficiency syndrome. DTCM prescribing LWDHW still follow the adaptation syndromes of LWDHW mentioned in herbal books.

Both dietary supplements (e.g. Bajen Tang、Shrchiue Dabu Tang) and prescriptions(e.g. Xiaoqinglong Tang, Longdan Xiegan Tang) of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) manufactured by GMP pharmaceutical companies in Taiwan are sold in pharmacies. However, the forms and the doses indicated in Chinese herbal pharmacopeia (CHP) and Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia (THP). This study collect and compare the content of the two pharmacopeias and related informatics. It was found that 57 TCM prescriptions are both contented, but the description are not the same. Take Liu-wei-Di-Huang-Wan for example, only two formulation appear in Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia, but there are five forms (e. g. powder, pill, soft capsule, capsule, and particles) appear in Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The doses indicated in Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia are not based on clinical evidence. According to the paper, it is suggested to invite the industries, governors, and academic specialists to discuss the following concepts: 1) how to improve the content of Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia ; 2) how to increase the traditional and modern forms of TCM preparations; 3) how to put more TCM prescription into the health care system; 4) how to unify standard specification for exceptional limits of TCM; 5) how to prescribe TCM prescriptions scientifically to meet the spirit of precision medical care.

‘Liu Wei Di Huang Wan’, a representative formula which is used as a remedy for nourishing kidney overcast and commonly used as a basic formula in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This formula is created from Qian Yi at Song Dynasty based on Zhang Zhongjing’s ” Shenqi Wan (kidney-qi-tonifying pill)” which removed Fu Zi (Aconitum carmichaeli) and Gui Zhi (Cinnamomum cassia) , as well as replaced Shen Di Huang (Rehmannia glutinosa) with Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia glutinosa). This formula is used for the treatment of infant congenital deficiency and infant developmental retardation. Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is a well knwon formula within 900 years. The formula is composed of Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia glutinosa), Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus officinal), Shan Yao (Dioscorea opposite), Ze Xie (Alisma orientals), Fu Ling (Poria cocos) and Mu Dan Pi (Paeonia suffruticosa). In the clinical applications, this formula is used to treat the syndrome of the kidney yin deficiency , like as aching lumbus and limp knees, dizzy head and dizzy vision, thief sweating, seminal emission, dispersion-thirst and dry mouth, for internal , surgery, gynecology and pediatrics. The development of TCM has a long history. Our long-standing historical TCM books have recorded many valuable clinical experiences from several TCM doctors. In order to find out the treasures and succeed the knowledge from the voluminous ancient Chinese Medicine literatures database, we have used the narrative of Fang Yi combined with the ingredients of formula to make an integrated clinical applications exposition through the comparison of the functions, and statistical analysis. Therefore, " Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, Di Huang Wan " were the keywords for this analysis using the self-created computer program to retrieve and analyze the articles from the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Originally, Qian Yi has indicated the Shu Di Huang as the sovereign , and others ingredients were assistants in Liu Wei Di Huang Wan. However, from the results of study, some books had changed their roles in the later generations. All of ingredients can be serviced as the sovereign in different condotions. The medicinal characteristic of each ingredient in this formula is “The three nourishing and three draining compatibly “. In fact, Ze Xie, Fu Ling, Mu Dan Pi (three draining ) were indicated to have not only draining function but also nourishing function based on survey of the Pents''aological Literatures. Therefore the ratio of dosage for each ingredients in Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is not fixed strictly. The ratio of dosage can be changed according to their clinical applications. The medicinals and formula are belonged into a whole body, people study Chinese medicine and medicinals are not able to know one of them, and it is impossible to Investigate all of the vast historical books in their lives. Fortunately, the electronic books (TCM-e-Books) database and computer programs can easily help us to study within the definition and analysis of data. This is an innovative method which allows readers to learn TCM quickly in a short time with the essence of herbal medicines, as same as the ancient physicians who had studied TCM with a huge herbal books. It will be helpful to succeed the precious knowledge of Traditional Chinese medicine
