Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has long been identified as an incurable chronic disease based on traditional means of treatment. Research now exists that suggests reversal is possible through other means that have only recently been embraced in the guidelines. This narrative review examines the evidence for T2D reversal using each of the three methods, including advantages and limitations for each. Methods: A literature search was performed, and a total of 99 original articles containing information pertaining to diabetes reversal or remission were included. Results: Evidence exists that T2

Sex determination systems in vertebrates vary along a continuum from genetic (GSD) to environmental sex determination (ESD). Individuals that show a sexual phenotype opposite to their genotypic sex are called sex reversals. Aside from genetic elements, temperature, sex steroids, and exogenous chemicals are common factors triggering sex reversal, a phenomenon that may occur even in strict GSD species. In this paper, we review the literature on instances of sex reversal in fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. We focus on the offspring of sex-reversed parents in the instances that they

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is rapidly emerging as one of the greatest global health issues of the 21st century. To investigate the potential mechanisms involved in the development of insulin-resistance, two in vitro liver cell models were established using palmitate or a combination of in

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus, characterized by hyperglycemia, ketosis, and metabolic acidosis. It typically occurs in individuals with type 1 diabetes but can also affect those with type 2 diabetes, especially during periods of stress or illness. DKA results from insulin deficiency, leading to an increase in counter-regulatory hormones (e.g., glucagon, cortisol, catecholamines) that promote lipolysis and ketogenesis. Clinical presentation includes symptoms such as polyuria, polydipsia, dehydration, abdominal pain, vomiting, and altered mental statu

GATA3 also plays a role as a gatekeeper of terminal adipocyte differentiation.
