This thesis investigates the response of a circumstellar accretion disc to the fly-by of a perturbing mass on a parabolic orbit, both with and without the presence of dissipation. Observed protostellar number densities and velocity dispersions imply that collisions between protostellar systems are likely during the pre-main sequence phase of their evolution. Observations of the Orion Nebula have revealed 'truncated' discs and with this in mind the post-encounter material distributions are examined and are found to be promising candidates for the observed systems. We study theoretically graphene-like plasmonic metamaterials, in particular a honeycomb structured array of identical metallic nanoparticles, and examine the collective plasmonic modes that arise due to the near-field dipolar coupling between the localised surface plasmons of each individual nanoparticle. We present an observationally constrained model of mass outflow for galactic discs, derived from star formation rate. This is used to supplement a model of the non-linear, mean-field, α2Ω galactic dynamo in the presence of shear. Outflows affect the magnetic pitch angles unexpectedly. Nesta dissertação nos propomos a analisar a homossexualidade na Literatura, através da abordagem das temáticas gays: Homoafetividade, Homoerotismo e Homofobia, através das personagens, narradores ou não, oniscientes ou neutros na obra Um dia me disseram que as nuvens não eram de algodão contos homoeróticos, do escritor e professor paraibano Antonio de Pádua Dias da Silva. We study a natural Dirac operator on a Lagrangian submanifold of a Kähler manifold. We first show that its square coincides with the Hodge - de Rham Laplacian provided the complex structure identifies the Spin structures of the tangent and normal bundles of the submanifold. In particular, I build models which combine viscous evolution with photoevaporation, as previous work suggests that photoevaporation can reproduce the observed disc evolution and dispersal time-scales. We use the chemodynamical simulation code GCD+ to simulate several galaxies both in a cosmological and isolated environment.
