Abstract:
Many parameters are available for evaluating patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) in order to assess the necessity for treatment and to evaluate results. At present there is no real agreement on their order of importance. This paper tries to define from a theoretical and practical point of view the role of the following parameters: symptoms; symptom scores; visual scores; time/voided volume chart; prostate size; uroflowmetry, nomograms for flow; residual urine; pressure/flow study; mathematical and computer processing of pressure/flow study. The Author underlines the critical role of invasive urodynamics (pressure/flow study) in categorizing patients as obstructed or non-obstructed, in grading the severity of outflow obstruction and in evaluating the pattern of detrusor contractility. Present studies to evaluate the results of old and recent treatments should include invasive urodynamics in order to obtain homogeneous groups of patients and to overcome the prevailing empiricism.

Several ways of technical diagnostics have been researched. General aspects have been considered of the mechanism diagnostics by vibroacoustic signals. The assessment of the vibroacoustic engine diagnostics method is provided. On the basis of a laptop computer, a portable diagnostic complex has been elaborated for the pre-assessment of combustion engine mechanisms' condition using parameters of a vibroacoustic signal. For technical assessment of combustion engines a diagnostic scheme has been proposed for mechanical components by vibration parameters.

Abstract:
Abstract A simulation model of brushless DC motor (BLDC) control and diagnostics is considered. The model has been developed using a freeware complex “Modeling in technical devices”. Faults and diagnostic parameters of BLDC are analyzed. A logicallinguistic diagnostic model of BLDC has been developed on basis of fuzzy logic. The calculated rules determine dependence of technical condition on diagnostic parameters, their trends and utilized lifetime of BLDC. Experimental results of BLDC technical condition diagnostics are discussed. It is shown that in the course of BLDC degradation the motor condition change depends on diagnostic parameter values

Abstract:
The statistical evaluation of diagnostic tests may be affected by several potential biases. These biases include those caused by a study design that results in a non-representative sub-sample who are further verified by the reference test (verification bias), and those caused by the absence of a definitive diagnostic test (gold standard test) for many diseases and conditions. In practice, an imperfect reference test is often assumed to be a perfect gold standard, potentially resulting in a large bias. Both Bayesian and frequentist methods have been proposed to adjust for each of these biases independently. To our knowledge, there is no Bayesian solution for that adjusts for both of these biases simultaneously. The objective of this thesis is to present a Bayesian method for the evaluation of diagnostic tests when both of these potential biases may be operating simultaneously. We develop a likelihood function that models both sources of bias, and suggest convenient prior distributions that simplify deriving posterior distributions. The models are based on dichotomous test results and the parameters of interest are estimated using a Gibbs sampler. Using both simulated and real data examples, we demonstrate that the method presented here can correct the verification bias even when a perfect gold standard test does not exist.

Abstract:
Fault identification through the use of Artificial Neural Networks has become very popular recently. Probabilistic Neural Networks (PNN) is one of the architectures, which have mostly been investigated for gas turbine diagnostics. In this paper, the influence of parameters related to the structure and training on the diagnostic performance of a probabilistic Neural Network (PNN), is investigated. In particular, the parametric investigation examines the effect of the training set on the diagnostic performance of a PNN. The effect of noise level was also examined and found to be important. Another parameter examined is the severity of a fault, which was found to affect seriously the performance of the diagnostic PNN. Other parameters also examined are the effect of the operating conditions as well as the considered output parameters of the network. Guidelines useful for setting up this type of network, are derived.

Patients with preeclampsia are believed to have a state of compensated DIC, and especially the differential diagnosis between preeclampsia and chronic hypertension with pregnancy can be difficult. Selected hemostasis parameters were analyzed in 50 women with preeclampsia (P), 50 matched normal pregnant women (N), 14 women with known hypertensionand pregnancy (CH) and 13 persons with known chronic hypertension and superimposed preeclampsia (CH + P). None of the patients had clinical evidence of DIC. Platelet counts, mean platelet volume, antithrombin III, α2 antiplasmin and fibrinogen activities and fibronectin were assayed. The following data wereThese data, together with higherlevels of fibrinopeptide A, platelet factor 4, 3 thromboglobulin and D-dimer in the P group suggests increased intravascular coagulation in preeclampsia. Fibronectin levels were markedly elevated only in the patient groups with preeclampsia. Abstract:
The transmitted power of motors can be defined by test bench examinations, in which the motor needs to be dismounted. By applying diagnostic methods only minimal disassembly, or indeed none at all, is necessary. In this paper diagnostic methods are systematized by different studies. Moreover, a new diagnostic procedure (established by the authors) is also introduced, which can be carried out by a relatively cheap measuring system design. Power measurement on a roller test bench is a well-tried technique for vehicle examination. Basically, the wheel parameters (tractive force, torque, power) are measured, but there are also procedures for motor power measurement. By applying the new procedure, the diagnostic method, (simple construction and test bench construction at a favourable price) torque and power characteristics of the mounted motor can be defined. The theoretical considerations of the new measuring technique and the implementation of the measuring system are introduced in this paper. Test bench for drive motor power and torque curve determination. In this study the diagnostical measuring systems and, for the first time, the measuring principle and technology of the new theory-based roller power test bench are presented. For its construction measurements have been carried out which make an important contribution to the research. The results of the research contribute to the development of diagnostics methods and to making them more wide-spread.
